Bluegrass, I live about 30 minutes south of Wright Pat :) Cox Arboretum is very nice to visit, but not a ton of perennials, mostly trees & shrubs. Some herbaceous stuff, lovely at any rate. There are a few I've been wanting to visit in Columbus, but haven't gotten there yet. If she's a gardener, you'll have to get her on DG :) We'll show her all the great nurseries!

Buckeyemom's Garden :)
Hugs, she is has been so busy with college. She finished her degree in 3 years. She does want me to supply her with a few sentimental plants from home.
I have hope she will Cinderella into a gardener.
Any good hosta suppliers nearby?
Buckimom: I see that you are from Piqua, Ohio. We visited there last summer doing genealogy research. My grandmother was born there and that is the only information that I had about her. I googled Piqua Ohio several years ago, and from that point on, my son Jon and I have found a wealth of information about our ancestors in that family line waaaaay back. Are you at all interested in genealogy?
Dear Caitlin, OMG! It is a small world afterall. I cannot believe the places I have been where people have heard of or been to Piqua. First of all I have tried the genealogy thing but my gardening and work take up so much of my time that I haven't really gotten into it. My mother was a wealth of information before she got really sick and my daughter was able to do a family tree that is pretty far back. If you have the time a funny story about people hearing about Piqua. About 20 years ago my DH and I won a trip to New Orleans. Here in Piqua we used to have a celebration called the Underwear Festival. Well, we were talking to the desk clerk at our hotel one morning and she asked where we were from and when we told her she said, "That's where they have the Underwear Festival!" Needless to say we asked her how she new that and here she had read an article in the New Orleans paper telling about it. LOL I saved the article to show people back home that we had made the big time! Sorry for such a long post. So nice to meet you. :)Bucki

Looking good buckimom! What is the hosta you are growing in the last pic? Is it green and yellow?
Wow! Your Allan P. McConnell is really big! Well, for him :) It looks so pretty, Mom :)
Sue I wish I could tell you. The hostas that I have put in over the years are completely nameless to me. I just planted them and paid no attention. I just liked them and knew with the shade we have I would have to love them alot! But they are green and yellow. I am trying to branch out to the blues. I just got Touch of Class and Stained Glass. Does everything look too crowded? Please give me your honest opinion. And Jacci isn't that Allan P. a cutie. Sue my mother's maiden name was McConnell so I just had to have it. Jacci and her family got that for me last year for my BD! Thanks for looking at my pics. Jacci your gardens look wonderful. I was very impressed when I saw the pics earlier and the news about the garden club, Cool!
Too crowded??? Oh, poo! Who wants to see dirt when they could see plants? :) Besides, means less weeds!
Jacci,I know that has been my thought when I planted, but then I see other gardens and I think are mine too much. But of course there is the factor that when and if my white bleeding heart is done for the season there are other plants waiting underneathe to have their day in the sun (well, a little sun). Love, mom
:)
It has been almost a month and here is my birdbath garden prettied up. Of course, it has become a playground for the squirrels and a baby rabbit who seems to prefer my yard to anyone else's in the neighborhood! BTW that is not the bunny, I mean that is a fake one there is a real one hanging around believe me! :)
Hi, bucki--
I just happened on this thread while researching hostas (I've caught the disease) and just loved your pics of your birthday hostas and then how well they are growing! You really have a green thumb!
Our garden is coming along and we have planted a few more hostas (thanks to Huga's contagious enthusiasm for them) --- three mini/dwarfs from Henryr10 and then we added a few more we couldn't resist...
Maybe we can have a regional hosta swap in a year or two? Or maybe we shouldn't wait that long!
Good to see your pictures and please keep posting them...you must have had a fun birthday! Judy
Dear Judy,
Thanks for your kind comments. Wouldn't that be fun to have a Hosta Swap. We'll have to talk to our Hugahosta about that too. After all she doesn't have enough to do. LOL What are the two named you couldn't resist? My sister just bought her first hosta I was shocked since she has no green thumb at all. She said she loves my hostas and was inspired by them. They are addicting aren't they? Keep in touch, please. Cathy
Cathy
We bought 'peanut' and 'korean snow' at Greenfield Plant Farm in Maineville and I'm emabarrassed to say a couple more but we threw away the tags...
Our son, Ben, and I planted them in a strawberry pot for fun, but we will just have to see how they will do... a risk, but for now it's cute in our little backyard shade garden near the birdbath and the hammock... Here's the link where I posted the strawberry pot pic. http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/518390/
Enjoy your garden and keep cool... :-) Judy
p.s. let me know when you are hosting the Hosta Swap! lol
Here are some buttercups that are blooming in my birdbath garden (2 views). They are very pretty and very yellow! There is a story behind them sometime when I have more time I will tell it. I am decorating a graduation cake for a friend tonight I have to have it done by tomorrow afternoon. Probably will be pulling an all nighter, especially if I keep going to the computer to DG!!
My DH and I were on the back porch this morning before going to Sunday Mass and saw two albino squirrels in our backyard! It has been a while since we had them in the neighborhood so it was kind of fun. Here is one of them. Sorry it's a little blurry they were running so fast most of the time I was shocked I even got him sitting still for a minute. I bet we had a total of 8 squirrels in our little yard!
Wow, Cathy--your albino squirrels are really something. I have never heard of two in the same yard together! Very unusual...maybe you might post your pics on the Wildlife forum and see if anyone knows more about them...could really be a different species....
The squirrels are digging up my flowerbeds but I could live with that if they were albinos! I've never seen one before...thanks for sharing the pics.We have a few black squirrels around here, though most are the typical gray-brown color.
