Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

I love to read what you write Jianhua. Your words seem so picturesque to my plain ones. :) Kathy

Today I went to a nursery looking for new plants... I was in DG T-shirt ... owner of the nursery was looking me with strange and questing eyes, he can't resist himself and asked about the shirt. I told him each and every thing and when I was comming out without buying any plant..... he rushed toward me and gave me three beautiful plants as gift. He liked DG shirt too much and there was still questions in his eyes, but I came out with beautiful plants . here is one of them.

Kaleem, what a neat story! The DG t-shirts are sure good conversation starters!

Springfield, OH(Zone 5b)

How wonderful! I am loving these stories!

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Kaleem, I can imagine the man's curiosity. Wouldn't it be neat if he became a member here? I wonder if he has internet access.

Spokane Valley, WA(Zone 5b)

What a lovely gesture by the nursery owner! :)

Say, if he joins, then Kaleem can claim to have had the first Pakistan Round Up! hehehe

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

Good one!

Mirpur (A.K), Pakistan(Zone 9b)

I am sorry replying here late, we have great problem in our communication system, because PTCL workers are on strike .... dont know when this problem will solve and I will back.

How's stock on the XL shirts at this point, Dave?

Gosh Dave, just had to write to say how much I've been enjoying my shirt. The only problem I've had with mine is ... IT STAYS DIRTY! Of course, that's not your fault ... I wear it all the time. Guess I'll have to order another one. Just so I can be on record, though, I don't want .com on the shirts. I love them just like they are. Thanks! ... Elaine

Elaine, thanks for your note. With all the dirt it's a good thing it's grey instead of white!! Oofta! :)

AMEN! *grin*

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

I can't believe all you people are GARDENING in this fine apparel!! :-)

I save mine for going to nurseries and other outings. Don't want to mess up the logo.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Well, that's why you need two shirts, so you can save one for "good!"

Not only are they a great color for not showing dirt (not even clay!), they wash up well too.

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

That's what I was going to say. I had to get more so I can play in them and have them saved back for RU's and garden events. It's such fun explaining in my community , who in the heck Dave is and why I am gardening in his garden. lol

Spokane Valley, WA(Zone 5b)

Actually, some of us might need three. They make nice sleepshirts, too. ;)

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

Yeah, I've been thinking about buying a couple more. Hmm... more shirts, or more plants?

(At least the shirts can't die from drought!)

Mysore, India(Zone 10a)

Here's me, proudly posing for the picture... my younger d is hiding behind and peeking out. That's the new arch I'm holding, that my friend gifted me recently. Since I prefer a shirt with a pocket, I don't wear any that hasn't one, to office.... have the habit of keeping my pen, reading glasses, etc in it and a shirt without a pocket is a handicap for me. But I wear it to other places. Here I wore it just for the picture. It has become the highlight in the past few weeks, as Jianhua has said.

Jianhua,
I liked your picture there, teaching.... but that is the girl on the right doing?

It looks good onyou!.... Just think....DG is getting to be known world wide. Jo

Springfield, OH(Zone 5b)

Really! I am thrilled to see the pics of people all around the world wearing DG shirts!

Shangshui, Henan, China(Zone 7b)

Yes, Dinu. Both appearing in the candid picture are girl students. I think you can tell it from their horsetail and spikes. They are doing a check-up for their English homework under my guidance.
These days my DG shirt is still in my colleagues' chatting waves. They comment on me a 'melting pot':
On my feet are a pair of black cloth-made shoes with an oval mouth on each. They say ' you are cool' especially when matching with the snow white socks. The shoes are rather old-fashioned, and it is said the factory has begun to make such shoes as early as the 1940s. And on my upper is wearing right DG's shirt. They say 'you are even cooler with a foreign stuff on'. hahaha Let them be.
Dinu, your daughter is shy and lovely. Wonder if she wants to learn Chinese?

Mysore, India(Zone 10a)

Jianhua,
I thought the girl on the right was fed up with your style of teaching and was taking a nap -- the spikes are pointing the roof! LOL. I remember you having said that your class has plenty of students... >80. How many are in your class usually?

Old-fashioned shoes... not for nothing they said "they have come to stay"! Even after 60 years, it holds good... means there is something special about it, one needs to stop and look. And sometimes they say that fashions go in a full circle. With all those holes it must be real 'coool', aren't they? Cloth-made means it is only for the drier seasons, aren't they? Craze for 'foreign stuff' seems to be there in China too? Here too it is still on, though many things are available in the market, esp. these days "made in China" products are everywhere.

My daughter there seems to be the more sharper than her elder sister.... a thing I have observed among children in many instances. The younger one is sharper, the elder one scores a few less points. I'm the elder of the two brothers and I noticed that my brother is sharper. May be my y'r daughter wants to learns Chinese. I had picked up a few words from Radio Peking [old name] when I used to listen. Have noted down somewhere and I will comeback to surprise you.

I beg pardon for deviating from the topic of this thread.

Dinu

Shangshui, Henan, China(Zone 7b)

Dinu, briefly, the girl on the right, on the contrary, is listening to me attentively. She is the top student of the 25 students, who can speak English fairly well. Yes, there once was a Chinese learning program on Radio Beijing which was broadcast in English. Now the name has been changed into Radio China International. If anyone who likes to learn Chinese, just tune your short wave radio into the program. There they provide you learning materials as well.
Now come back to the T-shirt.
My T-shirt is worth less than $ -50+ plus the postage from its surface value, BUT its real value is uncountable. From this little gift, I have read out that there are some good persons on earth. And the good persons are existing just in DG. I am so happy and proud to be one of DGers. Hope DG are extending further and further.

Mysore, India(Zone 10a)

Jianhua,
Yes, I know about Radio Beijing's rechristened name of RCI. THe signal from RCI is quite strong and the programmes can be heard as if from a local station, esp. in a couple of frequencies on shortwave. But then, the fancy for the radio is waning lately and our listening limits itself to the local radio only. RB had sent me a couple of bookmarks more than 15 years ago. Learning Chinese.... mmmm, will give it a thought. I remember now... "Seah, Seah".

Such gifts sent by our beloved friends cannot be valued at all. I feel lucky to have been involved in such a beautiful place called DG where we can 'rub shoulders' with fellow gardeners and good people - not all are lucky enough, are they? I have learnt a lot of things here. In fact, this is the only garden website I have time to visit. But it has changed the way I garden and my garden itself. Y'day I reshaped my pathways a bit using pieces of rocks I picked up from the roadside before. My old friend last night asked me about the t-shirt when I went to buy some paint from his shop and had to explain. He felt how lucky I was to have time to garden and he said he is in the shop from 10-10pm and no time for anything! Now, we are really lucky, aren't we?

Dinu

Springfield, OH(Zone 5b)

I just want to say that I feel blessed and lucky to have found such a wonderful website to interact with friends and even more so to meet such wondedrful voices from across the world! Kaleem and Dinu. How could we have possibly met otherwise? And gardening is such a soul restoring activity. You know..I wanted a shirt because I enjoy Dave's. I never thought that each time I wore it I would find myself thinking of all my wonderful friends here. Thanks Dave :)

Mysore, India(Zone 10a)

Jazzpunkin,
Having been here, thanks to some Angel, for close to 5 years, I have heard people say what you have said and I too was one among them. DG has become part of my activity, not a day goes by without it. I'm lucky for the fact that I have time only enough for this DG [and to check mails or do some e-search]. Yes, but for DG, many of us would never have met - and learnt newer things.

Dinu

Springfield, OH(Zone 5b)

Well.. I for one am glad you are here :)

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

This past Saturday a bunch of us met for the first ever San Antonio Nursery Date (Dave joined us!): http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/522260/

Most of us were wearing our DG t-shirts (calalily was wearing a vintage one!), and it was neat to get questions from people - including the employees of the nurseries - about what this was all about. At the last nursery, a favorite haunt of htop, most of us got to the nursery just before her. When she arrived, one of the employees ran up to her and said that her group was in the native plant section, she was real jazzed about our group. Another one of those employees asked us LOTS of questions about DG, said he'll have to check it out now. He ended up giving calalily some cuttings from a couple of salvias that they had growing there, but that were out of stock!!

We're doing an Austin Nursery Date next month, and in Sept or Oct we'll do a Houston Nursery Date. A Dallas Nursery Date looks to be in the works, as well!

Dinu and Jianhua, I get tears in my eyes every time I read one of your posts from around the world from me. It is just SO amazing that the simple art of gardening has brought so many diverse people in friendly contact with one another.

Thanks, Darius, and also Dave who created this unique garden, in which is full of both friendly and academic atmosphere. As I always think that if there are good persons on earth , the persons must be living in this garden, don't you agree with me? I do highly value the T-shirt of mine. Many years later, I think, it will bring me back many good memories.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

I finally placed my order...Can't wait to get it! I may need to exchange it for a Large depending on how big the XL is. Do they shrink much if dried?

Mysore, India(Zone 10a)

Darius,
The tears you get, I'm sure is 'tears of joy'! Yes indeed, but for this place called DG, we'd have missed so many lovely folks. BTW, haven't we not become better humans, than the 'pre-DG era'? It has everything, at least to me, under one beautiful roof.

Plans sometimes go haywire. And unplanned ones enjoy the success that was not expected. DG is the latter. Dave planned to keep HIS OWN data of plants and see what it has turned out to be, 5 years later ..... and what we have become .... better persons, better gardeners, more knowledgeable, got to know many people who became friends..... it is a great society! I never dreamt that gardening could bring people around the world closer. I had experienced it with 'penfriendship', ceratinly not gardening.

As coincidence would have it, Dave and me have the first letters in common. So, that made me create a small patch of my home into another DG "Dinu's Garden"! Not a day goes by without remembering at least one person of DG, leave alone DG itself.

Honestly, around four years ago, Michigander Diana led me into this DG, and at that time the only flower names I knew in English is rose and jasmine, let alone to say botanical names. But now looking back, my flower wordbank is overwheling, I think to myself. And most important of all, I have made many freinds old or new in here. Also, cultivating and learning flowers makes me into a happinest man on earth - forgetting all about the wilding crowd around me and being soaked in the beautiful garden.

Springfield, OH(Zone 5b)

Gardenwife.. I washed ours normally and I don't think it shrunk a bit.

feeling too mushy to respond to anything else.. ((Hugs to all))
