Yeah the Indians have a hard row to plow as the old saying goes. Howie I am pulling for them but I really doubt they will make it. Boy that Boston and Yankee showdown looming in the next few days looks interesting. I bet the Yankees win the pennant. I hope not.

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

Hey I just checked the scores and Boston and NY are both losing. Maybe the Indians do still have a chance. They finish the season against the White Sox and they haven't been playing that good the last part of the season.

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

Time will tell. If they can win tonight and tomorrow maybe just maybe they have a chance going into Chicago. Sure will make for a good weekend of baseball if they can go in even or within 2 games.

L.A. (Canoga Park), CA(Zone 10a)

The Angels clinched the AL West yesterday. Now I don't know who I prefer of the Yankees and Red Sox. Usually I don't like the Yankees, just for general purposes, but the Angels usually have an easier time beating the Yankees.

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

Uhoh I just heard the Indians lost. They are three out now Still have a chance because of them playing White Sox the last three games. Maybe a wild card berth. They have to win however.

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

Not looking to good but I'm still hoping. I would prefer Boston just because the Yankees have won so much in the past few years. I like to see different teams in there. Unless of course it's my team in there every year. Boy that's something that the Braves have won 14 division titles in a row.

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

I just realized that Boston and the Yankees play the last 3 games together. There is a good chance if the Indians could just pull off some wins that they would at least get the wild card spot.

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

Hey the Yankees won and Cleveland and Boston are tied for the wild card. Boy it has been a long time since the races were this close and the diviision leaders playing each other. And for a change the last week means something.

And talking about the season coming to an end. Yes it is sad but my grandson had his first high school pracice today. Well hitting practice I should say. They have an inside hitting facility, thanks to Mike Cameron a major leaguer that gave back to the community. They had a girl fast pitch softball game going on at the same time practice was going on. The boys had to leave the facility and let the girls practice. They were playing a team out of Columbus and neither team had lost this year. In the first inning the Grangers hit four drives over the heads of the outfielders. Evidently the hitting pays off. They were running away with the game when we left.

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

That's cool about the nice facility. It is going to be a fun weekend to watch the games. Plus I have to fit football in there too.

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

Indians are looking good tonight. However Chicago already has the division so it's up to a wild card spot now. Boston is down 2 to 1 so maybe Toronto will pull off another win and put the Indians in the lead going into the weekend. That is if they win tonight. I'm probably putting the hex on them talking like this.

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

Well the Indians won but so did Boston. They are tied for the wild card. So here's to the Yankees, may they have a wonderful weekend. And may Chicago have a lousy one. I hate rooting for the Yankees but that's the Indians best chance.

Fenton, MO(Zone 5b)

I was at my last regula season baseball game last night, and perhaps the last game at Busch Stadium as well. A good game with Pujols hitting a grand slam to end a bit of a slump for him recently. The atmosphere was great, perfect cool weather and everyone in the stadium seemed to be in such a game spirit. Walked about Busch to gather my own last 'live' memories. I'll miss it for sure. The looming new stadium sitting right beside Busch looks awesome, I stood and just stared into its dark seats and knew I'd be there next year. Bittersweet feelings.

Fenton, MO(Zone 5b)

GO INDIANS!!!!!!!

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

Well I think I will make my prediction for the playoffs. St. Louis to win it all.

Fenton, MO(Zone 5b)

Oh Georgia, don't hang that on us. Remember last year? Our bullpen really is lacking, Astros play us so hard. I'm already nervous. Who says baseball is boring? I need sedatives during playoffs.

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

I would think your right Jim but you just never know. The Indians chances are very slim but I'm forever hopeful. If the Indians win and the Yankees win then the Indians will have a one game tie breaker with the Redsox for the playoffs. Other than that I think I will root for the Angels. I like to see new teams in the mix.

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

Howie, now I didn't say that I was rooting for the Cardinals. That is who I think will win it all.
Hey Houston does have better starting pitching than any one but every team seems to have a weak bull pen. I think what happens is during the season all the bullpen pitchers coming in almost every game they just wear there arms out.

Howie still hoping the Indians make it.

Concord, NH(Zone 5a)

OK, I've been watching this thread for a while now and I realize I'm in the minority here being a member of Red Sox Nation, but.... if it ends up being Indians Vs Yankees you can bet I'll be cheering for the Indians all the way!

And yes, baseball is anything but boring. When the season ends I miss it all winter and can't wait for Spring Training to begin. Go Sox, Go Indians, anything but the Yanks!!

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

Heck Jim you did not have to tell me that. LOL. I know you will be rooting for your Braves. I was just stating if the Indians don't make it who I might be rooting for.

I love baseball in the Spring and Fall but honestly I think there season is way too long. I just can't get into all the games in between I still follow my team but It's hard to get excited about winning a game when you have a 100 more games ahead of you. So I watch in the spring to see how my team is looking, then catch a game here in there in the summer, then pick it back up in September. I guess that's another reason I like football so much. You only have 16 games and every one means something. Not to say I don't love baseball I'm just saying I can't watch 162 games. It is an exciting game when it comes down to the wire and that's what I like. I mean the Indians may not make it to the playoffs but what an exciting way to finish out the year.

L.A. (Canoga Park), CA(Zone 10a)

I try to watch all 162 games. In my case it's all 324 games, since I try to watch all Angels and Dodgers games, plus any spring training games that might be on t.v. I don't see every single game, but I doubt that I missed more than 5. For whatever reason, I can't get excited over football, but basketball will tide me over until spring training.

Today will be the last Dodger game of the season. :-( At least after today there will be at least 3 more Angels games this year. I guess I'm rooting for the Braves in the NL.

Oh, yeah, one more thing - GO TRIBE!! (until they play the Angels).

Fenton, MO(Zone 5b)

I'd watch baseball if they played in the winter in closed domes. I suffer tremendously from baseball withdrawal starting in January.

pajarito.. your not a minority here at all, your a baseball fan :) welcome.

Running....... game is about to come on.

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

Indians not looking to hot today. I think they will have a tough time coming back and wining this game but you never know.

Football is my first love. I love it when fall arrives. Kimberley thinks I'm silliy. I have the Redskins game I am listining to on the Internet. I'm watching the Indians game with the sound muted and turning the chanel to catch the Bengals in between. The only thing that could be better is if I could watch the Redskins and listen to the Indians. Baseball I like to listen too on the radio. I don't have to watch it. There is so much action in Football that I would much rather watch it.

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

Well the Indians lost and the way Boston is playing it would not have matterd anyway. So it's time to move on to football for me. The Redskins won and are in first place and 3-0 for the first time since there 91 superbowl season. I'll have to find some football buddys on here for that news. LOL

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

Ok I was looking the teams over and here are my picks.

Yankees vs. Cardinals

Now for who I would like to see. I'm all right with the Cardinals coming back to give it another try. I can't get into Padres or Houston at all. And I still have hard feelings about the braves from a few world seris ago.

Boston and Yankees have both had theres recently. So that brings us to the Sox and Angles I said above that I like to see new teams in the mix. I forgot the Angles had just won in 2002. So that leaves the White Sox. I should hate them as and Indians fan but I do like to see an underdog win. That is why I rooted for Boston last year because there fans waited so long for a chance. So now it's Chicago's turn if they can get there.

Fenton, MO(Zone 5b)

Yipee! I got tickets to Thursday's game, which is the 2nd game of the playoffs with San Diego. I'm charging up the batteries now for the camera. :) I'm way way way up there, so everything will be a field shot. I don't care, I'm there, and thats more than enough.

L.A. (Canoga Park), CA(Zone 10a)

Ooo! Sounds like fun! I didn't even try to get tickets to an Angels game. We'll be going on vacation later in the month so the entertainment budget will be spent there. Besides, Angels/Yankees games at Angels Stadium are half full of bandwagon Yankee fans anyway. Who wants to be sitting with a bunch of Yankee fans? I can't imagine that Busch Stadium will be "infested" with Padre fans.

Some "talking head" predicted that the Padres would win it all. I had to laugh. The Padres couldn't even beat the Dodgers most of the time this year and the Dodgers were awful. (I miss them already, though.) I like Dave Roberts of the Padres (used to be Dodger - traded for basically nothing by our stupid GM). Other than him, the Padres aren't of any more interest to me than any other team.

There will be baseball withdrawal tonight, since there will be no games on. Might have to just read tonight.

Fenton, MO(Zone 5b)

We get that with Cubs fans during Cardinals/Cubs series. Most of them seem to be alright people though. During the world series, there were alot of Boston fans at Busch Stadium. They reported back that St Louis and their fans had impressed them with their friendliness and good team spirit. I guess they expected us to be like Yankee fans, which they say are arrogant and obnoxious at games.

I've been to alot of games and seen alot of things, I've never seen a Cardinal fan do anything obnoxious or rude to a visiting fan. We're all had some good fun with them, win or lose. Thats what its about, having fun with the games. Winning makes it much sweeter though. :)

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

Yes good sportmanship should rule. But is sure is hard to be a good loser. Easy to be a good winner. LOL
I was just thinking the same thing about no baseball tonight. I do miss it. I can watch any baseball team play and enjoy it but football teams that I don't know anything about I turn them off as soon as they come on.

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

I guess we are just the opposite Jim. I could watch any football game and enjoy it but when it comes to baseball I have to have something that catches my interest. Like last year I enjoyed the World Series because of all the talk of Boston going all the way. I like how there fans seem so dedicated. I guess you have that with most teams but it was shown a lot more with Boston last year.

Football I just love the game. It's so physical and full of action. Baseball has some great moments too but football will always be my first love.

Fenton, MO(Zone 5b)

I tried many times to get into football to fill the void of baseball during the winter. I've never been sucessful. Maybe I'll try hockey this winter. :)

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

I've been thinking about trying to get into hockey since my hometown has it's own pro team now, the Columbus Blue Jackets. I went to one game of the minors a few years back and was bored to tears but I think it was more because I did not understand the rules. I guess I like football because I grew up seeing my Dad watch it. He was never into baseball or any other sport. I did not even watch baseball untill 1994. The guys at work were big Indians fans so I kind got into it that way.

L.A. (Canoga Park), CA(Zone 10a)

It's almost game time! I probably will listen to the Cardinals/Padres on the radio, rather than watch it on t.v., at least most of it. The game starts at 10AM local time which is too early to stop everything and watch t.v.

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

Well no surprises to me today. The teams that I thought would win won.

I'm thinking

Yankees vs. Sox

Cards vs. Braves

Then

Yankees vs. Cards

With Cards wining it all.

See how it goes. I'm still rooting for the Sox.

L.A. (Canoga Park), CA(Zone 10a)

The Angels game was pretty disappointing. They are a better team than that. And those announcers have got to go. Are Joe Buck and Tim McCarver on Steinbrenner's payroll or what? Though the Angels didn't do much to impress, the announcers acted like it was The Yankee Show and some Angels just happened to be there. Did anyone else notice that or is it just my bias?

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

Yeah it is always that way. Nothing new. They get stuck on something and that is all you hear from them. I think they have a pregame get together to get all their thoughts together and it doesn't make any difference how the game goes they stick to the script. I have noticed that on some of the Braves broadcast. I will be on the way home and listening to the game on radio and they will make some kind of statement and when I get home and turn on the t.v. the announcer on there will be making the exact same point. I think they have an inning to inning script. First inning they know who will probably be batting. and they script what they want to talk about. It probably is as much as the director of the program as it is the announcers. Most of the conmentary is scripted. Well a lot of it any way.

Fenton, MO(Zone 5b)

Joe Buck is a Yankees fan, I'm not sure what Tim McCarver is, but he doesn't like the Cardinals. I think Joe Buck knows he couldn't get away with his bias announcing in St Louis, (home of his famous deceased father Jack Buck), so he pretty much curtails his comments and stays neutral, but you can still tell. I don't care for him or Tim McCarver as announcers.

The announcers that DRIVE me crazy are Joe Morgan and that other guy. They are always together. Now there is 2 bias guys, its so ridiculous. One time the Cardinals played one of "their" almighty teams... JD Drew hit a home run off the pitcher and the ONLY thing they said for 2 minutes was how perfect the pitch was. I waited for them to comment and say something about the nice hit, but all they came up with was "JD just stuck the bat out." I was hoping that JD would go back in the dug out and tell the rest of the guys .. "just stick your bat out, the ball flies 380 feet".

My favorite announcers are Al Hrabosky,(retired baseball pitcher) and Dan McLaughlin. They are a good mix, Al gives insight to why something is being done, and Dan is the exciteable fan, CAN YOU BELIEVE IT???!

Yeah Kelli, I know what you mean with some announcers totally ignoring a team, like they don't even have a right to be on the field. It really degrades the game watching time.

L.A. (Canoga Park), CA(Zone 10a)

"Joe Morgan and that other guy."

We can never remember the name of the other guy, either. We call them "Joe Morgan and the white guy". Actually, I think they stay fairly neutral, but they are from the Bay Area, so they have some San Francisco bias. Maybe they have a West Coast bias, though I wouldn't pick up on that as much as you would, since I am on the West Coast. However, Joe Morgan refers to the Angels as the California Angels. How many years have they not been the California Angels?

Fenton, MO(Zone 5b)

Joe Morgan just loses me with his nonsense. Some of the stuff he spits out as knowledge on a team member befuddles me. I catch him when he's talking about the Cardinals because I know them better. No telling what I'd believe from him on other teams if I digested everything he has told me. Obviously there are other people that feel this way about him, some buy keeps up with his idiocy and has his own blog website on him. It actually kinda funny. http://joemorganwatch.blogspot.com/

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

You know that is strange about McCarver. He signed with the Cardinals and played there about 10 years. You would think that the team that gave him his start would be his favorite. He played with the Cardinals againd later in his career. Wasn't he at one time the Cardinal announcer. I was thinking he was but I could be wrong.
Well the prediction I made about the Braves so far holds. No bullpen in the 10-5 loss to the Astroes.

Fenton, MO(Zone 5b)

Yes Georgia, he did. Not sure how long, but I'll take your word for it. You would think he would have some type of connection with the Cardinals, I know he was well liked in his playing years. He announces sometimes for the Cardinals, not on a regular basis, can't remember who he's with.
