But what can I say, this one jumped in the car at the local nursery and came home with me. Didn't even know whether to believe the tag on it, but the foliage just yelled "TAKE ME TO YOUR GARDEN!!"
Here's what I found on the net:
‘Miner’s Claim’ PPAF -- a wonderful new variegated form of ‘Frosty Pink’ found in our nursery. It has broad creamy yellow to ivory white margins and the same soft, relaxed habit as its parent. Flowers are salmon pink. This is a great foliage plant even if it never blooms. We have had endless comments about this plant from those who have seen it in our nursery. From Monterey Bay Nursery.
CHIMERA: A plant with two genetically different tissues growing side by side. Chimeras may or may not be stable.
In this case the chimera was very stable, and we propagated the plant and patented it. The new plant is called Brugmansia 'Miner's Claim'
Had to bring it in to get a picture cause it's realllly windy today.
I Didn't Need or Even Want Another Brug!
WOW!!!
BEAUTIFUL!!!
Great...I am hoping to get one of these plants or a cutting at least from Keith Miner...a fellow from our daylily club whom it was named after! He works for Monterey Bay nursery.
Margie
I'm in LOVE!!!!! You really lucked out to find such a LARGE and healthy looking plant. I'm going to toss my Snowbank and buy this one.
I'm with them, WOW!!!!
The pictures are absolutely awesome.
Good for you!
Jackie
The net is a small world Margie......very little on 'Miner's Claim' from a Google search, but one of the links was a note on Tinker's from Keith.
It really does have great foliage!
The tag on the pot read:
"This spectacular new Angel's Trumpet is grown as a stunning foliage plant as well as for its salmon pink trumpet shaped flowers to 12" long that are heavily fragrant at night. Sun to part shade, average watering, protect from frost."
The Monterey Bay Nursery website:

I think you are very lucky to find this at a nursery.. My local nursery's have a few brugs that they tag(yellow) (white) or (pink) big choice. they have no clue.
This is beautiful!! I hope the bloom is exceptional too!! I too have a Snowbank that should be composted!!
Bonnie
Wow...I have a small cutting of it which wasn't happy where I planted it, so have potted it up to try to grow it out more. The grown up version is beautiful..thanks!!!
Carol
Spectacular, Candy!!! I'd treasure it for the foliage alone, even if it didn't bloom, WOW!!!
I've had a variegated bug for years and am in the early stages of bRugmania so that one really pegs the happy meter! Maybe I was never looking before but I don't think I've ever seen brugs in the nurseries/HD/Wally world's up here. Hope I don't this spring either since I've already got a collection started over the winter from cuttings, seeds and mail order.
Great job and congrats!!!
beautiful!
I remember last year someone had posted about it
can't remember where
no pictures of the blooms though
Some of the discussion was that it would be a suavenolens if it was really a frosty sport
since no one saw a flower, there was no telling
can't wait to see it bloom!!
(personally I hope its not a suave
hoping the blooms look like Maya)
But those leaves alone are enough to make me want one
Thats a real nice plant, although your resident inspector seems to be giving it a bit of a critical eye. Maybe its the plain looking pot that he doesn't like?
What a stunning variegated brug! Great find!
:) Donna
Very pretty foliage. It will be fun watching this one grow and bloom. Congrats on getting such a nice plant.
Hey, I didn't scroll far enough down the first time and just saw the kitty cat, cute, orange or apricot??
cinnabor -
My local nursery's have a few brugs that they tag(yellow) (white) or (pink) big choice. they have no clue.
Believe it or not that was pretty much true of nurseries here in the Bay Area two years ago. I think they are getting the message that "yellow" or "pink" or "white" just isn't gonna do it anymore!
*******
crestedchik - Since the search here on DG still isn't up to par like it used to be, I tried without success to find anything to do with this Brug. :(
*******
kikisdad - That Inspector would have been at the foliage in a minute if I hadn't stood right there.....he's one of those cats that would eat a house plant for breakfast, lunch & dinner and still want one for a late night snack! (Truly I think it was because the nursery where I purchased it has cats and they probably had "marked" the pot for future reference. Maybe that's why the foliage is so interesting!)
*******
Sherry - That's "Homer" a throw-away kitten that my daughter the vet found 7 years ago. She already had too many cats and I'm a sucker so I took him. He's a feisty teenager, always in trouble! Right now he's a very dirty cat....playing in the fireplace again! He's got some apricot Siamese in him we think.

I am assuming that Monterey Bay Nursery must have had some blooms if they describe it as "salmon".....strange that they only have the foliage pictured on the website. The good news is that this plant has "Y'd" and does have buds on it.
looks suave......
That gorgeous apricot/pink bloom against the tropical looking varigated foliage is absolutely stunning! Even if it never bloomed (perish the thought!), the beautiful exotic leaves are a must have!!!
Beautiful foliage.

Very pretty foliage. Can't wait to see it blooming.
I love Homer, he's a doll!! He does not look nearly that old. Homer has wonderful eyes and great color!! My Red Parker is orange - he was found, almost dead, drowning in a ditch, when he was 4 weeks old, maybe younger and tiny, tiny. Nursed back to health, raised like a dog, only cat I've ever had that will come when I call him by name, loves riding in the car, loves dogs and has never scratched anyone, very affectionate. The guy who saved his life is going to raise another one for me - we cannot wait!
Thanks for the picture Margie!

When it comes to cats, foundlings are sometimes the best! It's that unconditional love they give us and love to receive.....because afterall, they KNOW they deserve it! Here's Homer again, http://davesgarden.com/contest/2004/image.php?rid=2206&catid=59
And I do believe that the Mama of 'Miner's Claim' (that would be 'Frosty Pink') was under Homer's scrutiny just last summer:
Candy which nursery did you find this in? I know last year, Dave's mmqc , mary, bought one at I think it was Navelets. I can't find which thread she posted it on. She got a 5 gallon one for $30. She really loved it also as I recall. I wonder how it did over winter.
That's where I got it, but I got a better price than she did......$29.99 :-)
My guess is it should do OK pretty much anywhere locally (with a sheet thrown over it every now and then on particularly cold nights), as all of my Brugs made it through the winter in the ground and it was a much colder winter than last year when I babied a lot of them in the greenhouse. I just don't have the patience for that!
My winter was so mild here. I have petunias that lived over. I had only one cold night in Novemeber, very early on and lost lots of my leaves on the ones I left out. Then no more cold damage. But I have had a few die from rot, we were so wet this winter.
The foliage is so pretty on that one.
I went to their site, I guess they won't sell to indeviduals
Yes, Monterey Bay Nursery is a major wholesaler to nurseries in California. They have great quality plants along with several other major wholesalers.
I don't know where the shipping out of state stands with the scare last year with Phytophthora ramourm. Even if you could find an online source the chance that they can't ship to Indiana from California is pretty high. You might want to check this site regarding host and non-host shipping of plants from California to Indiana. http://www.cdfa.ca.gov/phpps/pe/sod_survey/StateRestrictions.html
Gorgeous, Happenstance. Wonderful buy!
Oh. My. Gosh!!!! Homer is really photographic too, SUPER photo. He reminds me so much of my old cat, Darth(vader), King of Cats here for almost 16 years...Darth was orange, had an apricot brother...there were 5 babies, my Golden, Boo Baby, brought them home to me, carrying them by the head, one by one @ 4 or 5 weeks, healthy, but we never located the mom. Boo loved them so much, slept with them, bathed them tenderly, gave them his toys - I sincerely believe, if Boo could have, he would have made milk for them, one of our most fun animal experiences, animals of all kinds have greatly enriched our lives...
That is a beautiful plant. I'll have to get one of these one day. The foliage is just gorgeous.
Clare, I am sure they will be for sale all over. Monterey is big and sells to so many nurseries.
CC, LOL, it IS a suaveolens, a Frosty bloom! Dare I bring a Frosty back to my house?? It is contagious condition I have found at my house. All of a sudden everything will bloom frosty! LOL Though the leaves are to die for!! Why can't one of the dark pinks get a sport like that????
I agree Candy, my 2 best cats I have ever shared my house with were 2 that found us when they were around 3 or 4 years old. Gab, my last found one, is the smartest cat I have ever known. And the most loving. She never leaves my side when I am home.
I hope I don't every develop a brug 'eye' like you experienced growers have, lol!! When I was a newbie, I said the same thing about Goldens. And, yes, I guess all 'eyes' come with experience...
Well I asked oine of THEE BEST sellers on ebay, and they cannot get any from that nursery either, shoot
Oh Doris, you are so funny. You have the brug bug bad!!
