I Didn't Need or Even Want Another Brug!

Hiouchi, CA(Zone 8b)

my local nursery would NOT order one for me from Monterey Bay Nursery either

Dick

Northern California, CA

Dick I don't know how close this nursery is to you, but they are listed as one of Monterey Bay's customers, you might want to give them a call. If all else fails, contact Monterey Bay and ask them where it is available in Orange County.

Oh No! I don't have another bit of room for more Brugs, but this one is beautiful!!Congrats Gretchen! Melba

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL. That is what I am saying to myself Melba, but then I get a mad impulse to jump in my car and go on a hunt!!! The hunt is always the most fun.

I have a nursery right by here that actually carries their brugs, so I may stop by tomorrow just for a lookey loo. NO buying, I swear. I think if I actually bought and paid real money for a brugmansia, my husband would have me committed. If you all could see my yard. I literally have them in all sizes everywhere you look. It is a disaster area and really more than I can handle.

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

LOL, Kell. You described my yard to a "T." I wonder if Green Thumb/Green Arrow has it? The problem with them though is that they charge way too much for brugs. I think I'll just be content with what I have for now and put this on my wish list for the future:-)

Hiouchi, CA(Zone 8b)

Thanks Candy
i should have thought of Rogers Gardens myself
i took this pict there last summer

LOL Gorden. She needs to see more green.

Hey Dick, do you have Big Yella, yet? You plant her in a protected place where you are going, and you too will have one exaclty like that in 3 years. OR BETTER!!!

Hiouchi, CA(Zone 8b)

Kell
no body has offered me a big Yellar yet.
do you know where i might be able to get one ?
i thought i had a bunch last fall when somebody was doing a lot of cutting
i was going to haul the trash cans off for free just to get one, but that didn't work out
how protected does it need ? full sunlight or partial ?

:-) Dick :-)

I will take an internal pic of Big Yella tomorrow. mano a mano. You is challenged. LOL

LOL Hey , YOU HAVE NOT MOVED YET!!! LOL. It needs protection from your cold, not my cold!!!

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

Well...Gordon, Doris and all...my supplier of Miners Claim didn't come through for me! The timing was off of him getting one! ;-{ He did promise to get me one though and will either call me or bring it to the meeting in April. Really I probably could get additional, but they sound quite big and would be hard to send....unless I just can get one extra one and send cuttings. What do you think of that idea?
But for now...I am like all of you except Candy....Miners Claim-less !!!

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Margie, if you do buy an extra for cuttings, I'd love to get in on it and I would pay for the plant, postage, etc. Or if someone would want to chip in, that would be great too!!!

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

Sherry...OK...I will let you know how it turns out ! I don't want to count on a promise...Like the saying "one bird in hand is worth two in the bush"...I will keep you posted though...

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Great, Margie, if it works out, great, if not, it wasn't meant to be and this will not be the last or first time that's ever happened..........THANKS, for even considering it!!!!!!

Kingston, OK(Zone 7a)

margie keep me in mind if you do a wonderful thing like that. Ted

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

Will do...Ted...

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

Hey guys.....do you know what I just remembered??? This plant is patented ! I am pretty sure that means it is not available to reproduce through cuttings. I know I asked in another post & I believe that is what was said. Ophs...

Northern California, CA

Morning Margie -

Another concern which I voiced above is that Santa Clara County and Contra Costa County among others locally are under quarantine because of sudden oak death. Some states don't have restrictions for sending in "foreign" plant material, but others are very strict and concerned about host and non-host plants. And there are Federal Regulations in place as of Dec '04.

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

picturelady we won't tell LOL I thought that was only if you sold them or propergated them?

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

I never checked it closely, but that's what I thought too, Doris. Oh, well, back to the drawing board...

Kingston, OK(Zone 7a)

Nothing says you can't trade. LOL

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Well its gorgeous! And, I don't believe that you can share a plant that is patented. You can only buy it from an authorized nursery or individual...

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

That's true....I assume you mean cuttings...?

Olathe, KS(Zone 6a)

OH WOW! I MUST find me 1 of those beauties! And the price! UNREAL here in Kansas, we pay thru the nose for anything neat and tropical. It is so sickening. My other love(passiflora's) are insanely priced at a minimum of 30$ and that is for a 1 gallon, puny plant. I rarely see brug's here at all. Oh it's so sad to hear you West coater's talking about seeing them everywhere at such killer prices, you guys really have it good out there. You get the long growing season, huge varieties of tropicals and more cool nurseries than anywhere.

IF ANYONE can find 1 of these somewhere or provide a cutting, I would make is so beyond worth your while...We can discus details if/when this ever happens.
You brug freaks were right last year when I met Bob and you all told me I'd become an addict in no time...Here I sit begging for more and practically willing to sell body parts for cool new brugs. I have no greenhouse so I have a 1000watt metal halide growlamp 4 feet away from my bed by a window and tropicals all over the place! It's literally insane, I have 2 bubblers in 2 diff. buckets humming me to sleep every night. I have make shift tables to make up for the different hieghts of plants so they don't get crowded out of the light. And I have another 15-20 plants stored at the local highschool, It's getting hard just keeping track of where everybody is! What in the world am I going to do this coming fall as I know I will aquire many more that I will have to keep. I'm gonna have to sell my wheelchair so I can buy materials and bribe my buddies to build my greenhouse. LOLOL Y'all have created yet 1 more monster.
BTW Has anyone heard from Bob? Its been so long since I talked to him, I can't even remeber his DG nickname.I have his # somewhere but I don't know where. I lost touch with him when I went into the hospital this winter. Darnit...
I hijacked another thread and scrolled the page AGAIN. I apologize, you guys get me rambling about these darn brugs and I drift off into a delerious state, forgetting about everything else.
JD

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

JD, after spending all weekend potting up seedlings, I cannot imagine how plants are sold so 'cheaply', LOL - but truly, I don't even have all that many seedlings, but it was a real chore and I have about 80 more to go, whew. Glad to see you making the rounds!!

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Jeff, there is no need to sell body parts! Definitely don't pay the prices of your local nurseries. Logee's carries a huge selection of passifloras and a nice selection of brugs at very reasonable prices, and shipping is quite affordable. Nice things can be pricey here too so I have purchased quite a bit from Logee's.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Wasn't there someone over the weekend that mentioned having passifloras for trade, cannot remember the thread, but the person's name, I think, was Chris...

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I buy passiflora from three different places. Logee's, Grassy Knoll, and Kartuz and have good luck with them all.

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

I have 3 different Passifloras starting from seeds. Any idea how long I'll have to wait for blooms?

San Jose, CA

mine is still alive. it didn't get any frost because i had it in a protected area. i posted pictures of it last year on this thread: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/467124/

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

It was your photo, mmqc, that I remembered, I had forgotten the title of the thread was MC, how simple was that, duh, thank you for the site...

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

heavens! wow!

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Great pictures, mmqc! Yours is lovely.

Ihughes, P. morifolia flowers in the first year from seed, but most of others flower in the second year from seed. Seed germination is dependent upon lots of heat and can take up to a year to germinate. Most of mine, however, germinated in about 60-90 days.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Mary, is yours growing? Do you think it is going to be a fussy one like Snowbank?

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

kell what makes you think I have brug bad lol I have about thirty seedlings that looks like will take forever to Y I have purchased one or two on eBay that have a Y all I need are a few more READY TO HAVE BUDS and some nice warm weather and I will be in Brug heaven.
And all the credit goes to you and Brugie.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Thanks Doris. Enjoy!!

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

Aren't Shirley and kell the greatest!
Thanks guys for all you do and for all you give of yourself in advice and plants and encouragement to us newer folks!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Blushing doesn't look good on me. LOL! Thanks Margie. I've always been of the opinion that if we don't share, we can't keep this community growing. Too many plants are hard to find, expensive, or not what they are claimed to be and by sharing what we know to be the real thing..we are helping others. This fall, I'm sure I'll have cutting material to share again. I hope everyone who I have shared with in the past will also share with people in need of cuttings. It's a big job and one day I know I won't be able to do it. Until then, I'll sure help where I can.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Ahhhh, Shirley and me!!! How touching!!! THANKS!!

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

This variegated beauty just deserves to be on the front page a while longer.

Judy
