The garden begins to awaken

Portland, OR(Zone 8b)

Had to get my 2 cents. I finally got out my camera and took pics of my flower beds. This is my first flower bed so I wasn't quite sure what to plant where. I never knew hyacinths could be so bright and smell so good at the same time.

Here's another one. The green "stalks" in the background are flowering allium. I think they're the blue azurus.

One last one. I planted these violas and pansies last September and have held up very well. Most of my hyacinths are up, but there still a few that are taking their time.

Those look nice emily....the fun of gardening is, you do what you want and keep experimenting! The good thing about bulbs is that they don't take up much room and you can put them wherever you want some color and scent.

I like your theme-not sure where to plant--.
I think that is the best way. Looks better to me than that formal stuff!
Is the Dusty Miller left from last year ?
Here it stays colorful all winter but is actually dead.
Keep the pictures coming!

Pretty garden, Emily. I love the colors you chose for the hyacinths. Do what makes you happy!

momof2d,
I decided to "force" things a little too. I cut this Pieris yesterday- loaded with buds!
Edited for spelling.

Yes, I bought those dusty miller plants last summer thinking they were just annuals, but I guess they're perennial in this area. They have more than doubled in size and plant to get more this year for other beds.

Rylaff, nice flowers!
your second picture is flowering quince, and I think #6 might be spirea "Bridal Veil" - not sure.

Yep, you are so right. I better label em before I forget.

This is an oldie of my GDD Hannah back in Feb, 2002, but I still think of it as the beginning of spring. I titled it "The Prettiest Flower". She was 20 mos. old then.
