The garden begins to awaken

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

Just a few things waking up in the yards.................Spring is on the way.

Thanks for the dose of spring! I had to get mine by visiting the Des Moines Home and Garden show. I'm going to try and replicate a cool fountain that I saw there, it was a bunch of large Bamboo all bunched together with several spilling water out and onto a rock filled screen, later I learned that what I thought to be Bamboo was actually PVC pipe made to look like Bamboo --- how clever!

Very pretty Kaleem.....I just love the look and scent of hyacinth

Spokane Valley, WA(Zone 5b)

Simply gorgeous! And what a charming birdhouse, too. Did you make it?

Donna

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

Thanks Donna....and yes my partner made the bird houses out of left over fence boards, old recycled cedar shingles, and tree prunings for the fenceing and cord wood out on the side.

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

Marc, what's the plant upper right? Looks like lily of the valley? with red whatsit?

Adore the bird house, if energy matches inspiration, I'll be copying that idea. TNX ~Blooms

crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

What a wonderful picture Marc. You must have an absolutely gorgeous garden. By the way the Pampas grass hasn't even died completely down yet. Must be good stock;)

Tina

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

Blooms, upper right is a Pieris japonica 'Lily of the Valley' shrub. Oh and feel free to copy the bird house to your hearts content......we stole the idea ourselves.

Oh Tina I'm glad your pampas grass is surviving.....it's mother plant took a good cut at my partner today....nice deep cuts across the palm. Love to hate this plant. LOL
Oh and glad ya liked the pic too :-)

crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

I'm work at trying to avoid it completely!! Seems to be working so far LOL

Good girl! Stay as far away from that lethal stuff as possible.

Panama, NY(Zone 5a)

Down right out and out green envy - I have 2 more months before I can see that kind of lovely!! I DID find one brave little snowdrop last week when we had one day of 50s, but its back under a foot and a half of snow again, now compressing in a minor warm up (it's 32!) to about 6 inches. I'm worried about my little Japanese maple losing branches.

Sigh. Zone envy at its finest. Lovely pictures Rikerbear. If there wasn't so much snow here, I'm sure I could find something green to take a picture of too...lol.

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

Thanks ceedub....sorry to make you 'green' with envy.....Spring is on it's way. :-D

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

Hi Riker - looks like we're at almost the same point, except my trees aren't leafing out yet. Very pretty pictures :-)

Nice pic Steve......thanks for sharing it.
I sure do miss 'Cow Town'......need to go back for a visit one of these days.

Spokane Valley, WA(Zone 5b)

Okay, so now we have a countdown going... Riker is 8b, Steve is 7b, maybe Blooms will have something to show from 6b in a while, and then I'm crossing my fingers to be the first for the 5b report. LOL

Lovely lovely pic, Steve!

Adrian, MI(Zone 5b)

Zone envy here too!! Enjoy your blooms! Still snowing here in Mi.

Steve is well ahead of me and I am in 7b, too.

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

We are still dropping into the low 30s upper 20s at night, but the days are 55 to 60.....and no rain. Things are growing but slowely.

Spokane Valley, WA(Zone 5b)

Aw gang, I was just funnin' a bit with the countdown while seeing the hints of spring elsewhere. ;)

We've had unseasonably warm high temps here in eastern Washington for the past few weeks, while still having freezing temps at night. We are a bit concerned since our predicted last frost date is May 4, yet all the fruit trees and lilacs are starting to bud and our various tubers are sending inquisitive 'bullets' up. *sigh*

It could certainly be an 'interesting' year for us, though! ;)

Donna, who occasionally is referred to as "Pollyanna" by folks she still loves

Silly typos! ;)

Gee, Mark, we get UP to the upper 20s low 30s! lol That's what I love about this place, there's always someone blooming, I must have seen this on a really bad day the first time considering my previous post. I wish you all the happieness of the season, and know that I'll soon be see green rather than white

(Donna, I'll match your Pollyana and raise you a Chip 'N Dale!)

Kathleen, trying to make atonement for past raspberries

Thanks Riker and tutti Frutti

We've been fortunate this year in that our lows have been consistently in the 30's and low 40's and not the extremes on the low side that we ususally get this time of year, so the flowers haven't been ruined by a hard freeze as so often happens here if they emerge in mid to late February. I overseeded the yard with winter rye this year so I have a nice green lawn, since the nasty Bermuda gress that does so well here when it's hot doesn't eve come out of dormncy until April.

Gordonville, TX(Zone 7b)

We are crossing our fingers that the hard frosts are over with, aren't we Steve? We had a light frost up here yesterday. Maybe that will slow things down a bit.

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Today my Iris Reticulata started to bloom. We are having an El Ninio winter, mild and dry in the Pacific Northwest, so these little purple beauties are about a month ahead of schedule. I was very happy to see them, the first flowers in my garden for 2005.

Spokane Valley, WA(Zone 5b)

*sends ^5s to Kathleen and starts singing*

"I'm Chip! I'm Dale!" Da da da da da da da da..."

Nope, don't remember them at all. Well, all the words to the song, anyway. LOL

How kewl, Mary! And if your Iris Reticulata is blooming, that means I might see mine soon, too. :)

We're in a very hard freeze right now, but my indoor Xmas cacti don't seem bothered and are both in glorious bloom right now. Kinda warms things up in a Yueltide sort of way...lol.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

Riker is the first top left picture a clematis? All the pictures are so refreshing to see. I like the lily of the valley bush. To bad I can't grow it here....lol. This morning I woke up to more white flowers popping up everywhere....lol.
:) Donna

imway2dumb,

Where exactly is Gordonville, anyway? Up in the panhandle?

Gordonville, TX(Zone 7b)

Due north of you 2 miles south of the Red/Lake Texoma in Grayson County.

John

Look at my Almond plant.

That tree is beautiful, Gumlla - now I want one.

Almond plants are available here easily but size of the is too big, I can't pack in the envelope. Here is one more shot.

My favorite flowering tree, Kaleem. Do they grow wild in your part of the world? In California there are thousands of acres of almond orchards in bloom right now. It is a beautiful sight, although short lived.

John
