I love seeing photos of the GOBs in this thread! Feels like a party!! Now I'm going to put my feet up and watch mindless drivel on the tube for a while. Cake in the oven for a late night treat....oops...did I say I was being strict today. I lied. Didn't get those winter seeds sowed either. Nose growing by leaps and bounds.................Night all!!
Coffee and...part 2 :-D
Yea, I like GOB's too but want to change it to stand for "Glorious Old Broads" instead of "Great Old Broads" (if everyone agrees, LOL)
Darius...I think there's some J&B on the shelf in there...take a look (and a shot, if you like.) I get those tingles in my fingers too...I just figured it was a pinched nerve or something. I sure hope yours isn't serious. Hey...we *need* you to be able to type with more than one hand. :-D And I vote YES! for "Glorious Old Broads!" And We *are*!
m5...shame upon you...hehehe can I have some when it's ready?
Yawnnnn...I'm gettin bleary-eyed here. Time for me to get some shut eye.Meezer, save a piece of that cake, I'll have for breakfast...
NYTE ALL!
~julie~
JUlie it was just one of those out of the box dessert cakes, quick and dirty....chocolate lava, I had $1 off coupons, and couldn't resist. Better hurry, there's only two pieces left. Burp. Want ice cream on it while it's still warm?
Darius, make sure when you are using your keyboard not to rest your elbows or wrists on the edge of your desk or table. Actually, ergonomically, your keyboard should be at elbow height so that the heels of your hands provide the support. I get those tingles occasionally and it's usually because I'm not positioned correctly. (Too much keyboarding can aggravate it...but try to stop us...!) Carpal tunnel isn't corrected very well by surgery, my sister in law had it done twice and still has problems. Hers came from sorting mail at the PO. Repetitive motion injuries are common in many jobs.
Glorious Old Broads...hmmm...Yeah...I like it.
I had some sad news this eveining also. A former neighbor, and long time friend (in Richmond, VA) died last night....he was almost 90. And his wife is in such poor health too!
My DH's nephew used to come visit us while he was stationed in Norfolk, VA...and we introduced him to this couples daughter....less than a year later they were married...now they are grandparents! I guess that makes us sorta family too.
Darius...if it's OK with Julie...I think I'll join you in that shot of scotch...may make me sleepy! Nite all....Jo
HI, finally got back down here, just in time to join for a snack (any cookies left and a cuppa). Freezing my bodacious butt off down here (puter is in the basement office-half underground- and me in WI -about 40 minutes from Julie.
About the greenhouse, seen many that have been left go-couldn't hurt to check around-maybe if there is a freecycle in the area-also for heating-what about those little stoves that heat with corn-plenty of that around here. Rats, there goes the dryer.
My sweats need to get loaded from the washer, or I will be low on clothes for the coming week.
Lovely photos ladies, I may get one of my nicer ones to post. Lately I look a bit tattered around the edges!!!
Marcia, we probably all look a little tattered around the edges, but we earned it honestly! LOL
My homemade bread in the mini loaves is sooo hard to get out of the toaster because the slices are so small.... WHY didn't I think of that before I pushed the durn bar down? (Probably because I hadn't had any coffee yet... DUH!)
So y'all better just havesome with butter and some of the homemade blackberry jelly I brought, or maybe some of the really thick and slightly tart apple butter I made.
I am all bummed up this morning. My back door on my station wagon did me in. The pneumatic lifts don't work anymore so I muscled the darn thing up to put something in that wouldn't fit through the back window, which opens seperately. It must weight 75 lbs. and I've never hurt myself before hefting it, but I have pulled muscles all the way around my my shoulders, back and around and across the collar bones. Also, up the back of my neck. It's like wearing a giant boa constrictor. Even though I am a wimp about pain, I hate being unable to work on projects on my days off. GRrrrrrrrr.
M5...I'll bet by now that whole cake is gone...chocolate lava, hmmmm....if there's any left, I'll take just a bite. Thanks!
Jo, I'm sorry you got bad news. Hope that little bit a scotch got ya a better night's rest. It's always hard losing a friend, especially one of such long standing and part of the extended family. My condolences to you and yours.
Marcia, your basement sounds as cold as mine is right now. DH said the thermo-meter outside was reading -14° when he got up. I don't know about you, but I'm looking forward to the 'January thaw'...lets see....that usually get here in about April, right? LOL Oh, and btw, this 'tea party' is definitely "come as you are." That pic I posted yesterday was taken yesterday...and (other than the 'fuzzy' I put on it so that *I* could handle the wrinkles hehehe) it's "come as you are" ...wysiwyg...that's ME. :-D
Darius...I'd LOVE some toasted homemade bread...please pass that blackberry jam. OH heavenly! Around here we have a lot of wild "Black Cap" raspberries. Now, if you want *really* deep blackberry flavor, you'll have to taste the next batch I make. That stuff is so good, I have to hide it from the kids! LOL (But then the home canned green beans cause 'thefts' in my house too.)
woodspirit...Hi..glad you dropped in. SOunds to me like you need a good neck massage. My advice, b/c I've had a station wagon rear door do the same thing to me, is to get those darned assist arms replaced. Those doors are a lot heavier than we think. Hope you're feeling better *real* soon.
I'm not sure what I want to tackle for a project today. I have lots of things to get entered into my personal garden database, I have about 25 more packs of seeds to winter sow, AND there's laundry and vaccuuming to do. Hmmmmm...I think I'll just look at my pictures of last summer's flowers *then* I'll make the decision. ;-)
See ya round lunch time...
~julie~
Good morning. What we got to munch with a cup of tea? Are we officially the GOB's now? I like it. Here's a quote from Will Rogers that fits right in there with "tattered around the edges". "I've been a lot of miles and some of the roads weren't paved". He said he wanted folks to know why he looked like he did. Wish he had been with us longer, what he said then is still funny.
10 degrees here this morning, today will get up near 30 they say, and about the same for the next few days and nights. The sky looks pretty clear so we will have sun again, and therefore a warm greenhouse! We have enough snow cover to protect things, the roads are mostly bare and dry and the wind isn't blowing! I'm always thankful when the wind isn't blowing in the winter. I lugged a couple of bags of potting soil into the shop to thaw out, got one moved into the greenhouse yesterday so I can play in the dirt again and repot a bunch of things while my hubby and our friend watch football this afternoon.
Woodspirit, glad to see you here, sorry you hurt yourself getting that hatchback open. Muscles usually heal up pretty quickly unless we keep aggravating them. Sit around with a heating bag across your shoulders frequently during the day and visit with all of us.
I think I'll see if my hubby would like breakfast in town this morning, he can order steak and eggs if he wants. Well, he could order it at home too but he would have to use his immagination on the steak part. We can pick up some snacky things at the store, I'm thinking about some of those mini wieners in barbeque sauce, yummmm.
See you GOBs later. Edited because I just read my awfull spelling..... my fingers get tangled sometimes.

Morning All,
That coffee is exactly what Ineed, and Darius that bread looks wonderful, could I have a slice please. I've plucked up courage, I think I probably qualify for the GOBs. This was me just over a year ago at a mere 59 and its about the best I could find! It doesn't do justice to the double chin!
Julie stop being keen and planning your day - just let it go and go with the flow. If you plan it you will only end up with the 'But first" syndrome! I know I have personal experience of it. :>)
Is this thread getting a touch long? An awful lot of us seem to spend a fair bit of time at this kitchen table nattering, and that takes a lot of space. Well if you saw the size of my But End you would know that was true anyway. I feel for you M5, its a large area to get chilly, larger in some of us than others and takes for ever to warm up.
I think I'll just sit here for a bit - I feel brain dead this morning anyway - and see who pops by.
Carol
Fingers hit the wrong keys this morning!

Yeah, Carol, you qualify for GOB's! Lovely photo... aren't we SOME characters? LOL.
OHHHH BOY is it cold!! Took my car 12 miles to start throwing any heat....did somebody say January thaw? Thought that was what we had this past week, and now we are paying for it. I need some of that hot coffee, and wouldn't mind a slice of toast with blackberry jam on it,I'll just slip it under the broiler to toast it like I used to do with my extended family at breakfast time. Two slices at a time just wouldn't cut it....besides I kinda like it toasted that way. When I get uncooperative toast, I use chop sticks ...no forks for me! I can't use them all to prop up plants.... Those hatchbacks are really heavy, how about a nice long hot soak in the tub, right up to your neck? That would make those sore spots feel a lot better. That's my remedy after hoisting those 40lb. bags of cat litter. I leave it in the trunk until DH gets home...after all, I lifted it off the shelf into the cart, out of the cart onto the conveyer, off the conveyer back into the cart, and then into the car! The first time I did it, I left a note on it "Your Turn" and since then he always gets it out. Brrrrrr. I'm still cold. Think I'll go sit right on the heat vents like the cats do. Are we bumping to part 3? Marcia, thanks for the hint about the greenhouse. Guess some folks lose their enthusiasm for them after a while. Or...living in Wisconsin they spent all their money heating them and are now in the Poor House. Well, I'm off (I have witnesses to that!!) to start dinner. First step, stick head in freezer. Sigh.
M5, I think we Glorious Old Broads (GOB's)'s are ALL "off" in some fashion... LOL.
Betty/woodspirit1, DO get a good soak somewhere, even if only your bathtub. Put lots of epsom salts in the water (if it's your water).
Yes, the thread is getting a bit long, time for a new one... we've been gabby!
Golly - why can't I seem to get back here to Julie's table more often? I see everyone's in the grips of the cold with the exception of Crims, woodspirit, & Darius. We've been stuck at 12° all day and the sun just went down. I don't know if I want to see what it's getting down to tonight. Brrrrrrrrr....
I'd sure like some of that wheat toast, do you think there will be any left tomorrow morning? I've got a homemade sourdough on my list of things to do this week. I have an excellent cheese & broccoli dip that goes into a sourdough bowl and the removed bread is toasted in the oven and used for dipping. Mmmmmmmmm......very tasty. Sweet red peppers and onions sauteed go in it too. Is there any football on tomorrow? Maybe I'll make that for a gametime snack. DH and I can eat the whole thing watching games.
Julie ....... sound the trumpets of success! I've officially taken down MY tree so I guess I'll join you in the bad luck. I was telling my Mom about the tradition Okus mentioned about being down before the 12th. She said she bets its a tradition surrounding Epiphany. Especially since Easter is also a part of the tradition.
It's been so darned cold that I've not ventured too far from the fireplace the last few days. Hopefully warmer days are coming soon.
Glad to see ya, Brenda. Yes, there's still some whole wheat... I brought 3 mini loaves. Try the blackberry jelly, too... seedless, not jam...
It's colder here than it has been but nothing like most of you are experiencing, Brrrrr...
Great photo, Brenda, nice to put a face to the name!
However, you don't Qualify for GOB's... maybe in another 25 years, LOL.
I have to wait until I'm 65!! I'll be 40 in May. Remember I've got a 15 and 11 yr old too!
Hey...it was 72 at 5 PM today here in Southern Arizona!!
I went up to the Widowed Support Center to play cards today...only 4 of us showed up but we had Hot Wings and other snacks....so I'll only need a cup of tea...Yummmy. Jo
Awwww......I forgot by Jo down there with eternal summer weather!
You look better at 40 than I do at 22. :-O
Hello again. I'm full of stew and cornbread, no dessert for me tonight. My jeans have shrunk again, it's that overfed and undermoved time of year.I should be getting on the exercise machine that sits in the basement, it's one of those Health Rider things, not a bicycle as the name would lead you to believe. Instead you pull the handlebars toward you and push with your feet and the seat raises up, so with every stroke you raise your own body weight. Later in the spring I will be working the calories off, starting with lambing season and going full speed until late October. I puttered in the greenhouse today but didn't get anything repotted because the bag of potting soil still had some ice in it, so I decided to wait another day for the soil to warm up more. I watered some plants and forgot to feed the fish, just now remembered! The gh only got to about 70 today, clouds moved in and so the sun only shone until about noon. Now it is snowing again. We still have a lot of winter left.
Today I looked at the orchid with the broken flower stalk and I see another stalk comming out on the other side! That made me pretty happy. I will stake this one and be very careful working around it since I broke off the other one and was very disappointed about my clumbsyness. It is a white phaleonopsis, not sure how to spell that. It belongs to my daughter in law and I am babysitting it along with several other plants of hers. She brought them over about May, some needed repotting, and some just needed tlc. One plant died, a fern, but the others are ok. I never thought I could grow orchids! Now I want more of course, but the prices are pretty high. I have cactus and an orchid in the same greenhouse, and some of the cactus are blooming, and not just the Christmas cactus kinds. Do any of you grow orchids, or cacti?
I need to go clean up the kitchen, thank God for dishwashers!
Whaaa!! Look at that creamy wrinkle free complexion!!! I don't think anyone under 40 should be allowed to post their photo, makes the rest of us look ...........like we really look LOL stop it!! Now I need something to munch on, to sooth my wrinkled spirit, maybe if I get reallly realllly fat these wrinkles will fill out and disappear! Yes, we need a new GOB tier, for those cuties, but of course we will be happy to see them come in and nibble. Gee Darius, I was wondering why I didn't get any seeds when I munched on that toast, thought I was just lucky.
If you have a moment, go to General discussion, I just posted a thread regarding a spoof email I got, someone pretending to be a buyer who didn't get their item. Usually the spoofs pretend to be from Ebay, this was different.
DH is banging around in the basement. He finished drywalling an inside wall, and has painted it, now he's pounding on something. I'm not going down there.....it could lead to requests for assistance, LOL, I remember that old Tom Sawyer trick.....
sleep tight everyone.
Oh boy! Now I know what someone new to this thread feels like. WOW are we a talkative group! LOL LOL And yep, it's time for a new installment of our GOBs "Group session". I've added a link at the bottom of this post so you all can find your way there.
Sorry I didn't make it back yesterday. I went downstairs, reluctantly, to see if I could gather up the energy to finish off my winter-sowing. I managed to get 6 more gal jugs planted, the floor swept up, and my existing plants watered before I gave up. I was having some trouble breathing and was getting dizzy...a bit of angina...so I came back upstairs and went to bed. It would have been nice IF the "darn cat" hadn't been walking on me. ;-) At any rate, I'm doing better today. Still don't have much energy but that's to be expected.
Carol! Nice to *meet* you! I'm so glad you posted your pic. Another lovely lady to add to our membership. Which, by the way, now includes "Understudies" for those who haven't yet attained "Senior" status. hehehe (They'll get here sooner or later, won't they Darius?)
Mary...I *loved* the note you left your DH "Your Turn" ...I wonder if I get results with my DH. hahahaha (I doubt it...I've tried that in other instances...) You know, I never thought about people giving up on their greenhouses up here because of the cost of heating...I know it's stopped me from getting *too* enthused over getting one for myself.
Brenda...TA-DA!!!! {that's the TRUMPET! CONGRATULATIONS!!! Now doesn't that feel SO much better? :-D Probably all my bad luck in the past was because I didn't take my Christmas tree down on time...do superstitions count if you don't know about them? LOL
That's a beautiful picture of you and Leah! Leah looks like she'd rather be somewhere else, and mommy looks like she's having a GREAT time...(You look super in red! Just imagine how you'll look in your "Purple Hat" when you finally graduate to "Senior" status. hehehehe Could NOT resist that one. :-D ) OH...you don't suppose the reason you can't get here more often might have a little to do with the fact that you *do* have an 11 and a 15 y/o!
Jo, did you think to check out by the pool to see if the rest of your members were *sunbathing* in those 72 degree temps?!?! Grrrrrr.....BRRRRR.......GRRRR :-D
:-O Mary's pants are *shrinking* again! It's those darn driers, Mary...they'll do it to ya everytime...and especially this time of year! After all, driers *do* need a little something extra during the winter to keep *them* going. :-D (My drier is shrinking my pants too, so don't feel alone. ;-)
I "inherited" some cacti when my neighbor lady passed away in Nov. Let's see...there's a "brain cactus," another one that's nearly 4' tall, another little 'fuzzy' one (really cute!) a couple that probably came from Walmart, a Zebra cactus (looks more like a succulent), another looks like the feathers on a partridge...there a lot more, but I know *nothing* about them...other than when they FALL on your foot they hurt for days! (NOT the cactus...the FOOT! LOL)
Darius, the last batch of black cap 'stuff' I made up was "jelly" I think that's why it turned out so well...I misread the instructions and used MORE juice that the recipe called for and almost no water. I wouldn't have done that if I'd been measuring the cooked berries. (LOL I still can't believe I did that! But MAN was it ever good!)
M5...(julie patting Sheila on the shoulder)...it's OK...don't cry...When I was working in a job shack 20 or so years ago, the guys loved to hang one of those 'Rigid' tool calendars on the wall over my desk. I hated it, but there was little I could do about it. EXCEPT (and this is good!) Put little post-it notes over the "main" parts with "Just remember...someday she *too* will turn 40. (BOY did THAT make them stop...they even moved the calendar hehehehe...nasty, ain't I?)
As soon as I'm finished here, I'm headed over to check out that thread you posted. I've been getting a lot of spam with subject lines reading as if they were from legitimate business dealing I *might* be in. I HATE those things!!
~julie~
