Mary, are they raised for meat, or wool, or both?

The babies are SO cute!

Edgewater, MD(Zone 7a)

OH MY GOSH OH MY GOSH OH MY GOSH!! Guess what!!

I had a friend of mine from where I used to work call and ask me to come over to the shop(car repair), they were doing some filming and needed a mother and child. Well I went, they took shots of Isabelle and me walking to the car, me buckling her in and then me getting in and driving off, then took a face shot of me saying how important auto maintinece is to me. I thought it was going to be for something local, BUT, it was for Mobil 1 oil and is going to be shown nationwide. Can you imagine how cool that will be if they decide to use it?! I was so excited after it was done, Im glad I didnt ask before hand or I wouldnt have been able to talk at all. It took 5 takes of the face shot to get what they wanted without me messing up but it was so much fun. LOL
And just in case they dont use us I asked for a copy of the tape, I told them no one would believe me if I didnt have proof, LOL.
Oh I need a cookie!!

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

What a great opportunity! Did you get paid?

Mableton, GA(Zone 7b)

That is so cool Drave! If you get famous will you still remember us little people? *puuuweeeeez...?*

Edgewater, MD(Zone 7a)

: ( no, I dont think they understood what I wanted LOL I said I want a copy of the tape and membership to the daylily society and a copy of the new Eureka guide. LOL I am at least getting the tape.Never talked about money or anything, wasnt really worried about it but if something happens and I get a check you will NOT hear me complain. Now what would be really funny is if someone decided they wanted me to do anther comercial, I could be a star, heehee. I hope its not true what they say about the camera adding ten pounds, ooo thats a scary thought.

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

DC!!! WOW!!! How COOL! UH...what do you look like so I know who I'm looking at when it airs here! :-D (I love what you asked for! Sounds like me! Do they need a fat OLD lady who only does car maintenance when the car breaks down???? :-D)

~julie who is totally THRILLED!~

Well this is how I feel half the time, does that count?

Oh, D'Cat... that looks so much like my bbeloved Morgan (except gender) that it almost made me cry. She slept a lot like that on her back.

Edgewater, MD(Zone 7a)

Oh Darius I hope it was a "good" almost cry. I wouldnt want to make you sad.

Angie, if I get famous Im gonna have a big garden party in my new house on 20 acres and everyone is invited and dont forget to bring your bathingsuits. Hey if your gonna dream then ya might as well dream big LOL.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

LOL, D'cat! I'll be there, but no bathing suit/pool time for me.

Lenexa, KS(Zone 6a)

Afternoon all.....what a busy thread today.

Darius -- I'd do dumplin's in a heartbeat, but DH doesn't like them. I use the Reame's frozen jobbies and they are *almost* as good as the thick noodles my great-grandma use to make.

I'm in the midst of baking my FIRST EVER homemade loaf of bread. Used the new Kitchenaid and it did a heck of a job! Can't wait to have a taste - still warm with a bit o' butter on it. Mmmmmmm.
Jo - tee hee hee on that nursery rhyme about Mary and her lambs. Good one.....

Mary - those lambs are DARLIN'!!! Now for questions......why do some have black faces? Different breed? And did I see some all-black ones in the pic of the pastureful? Are those the proverbial black sheep? LOL

DCat - WOW!!! Didn't you and DH have a commercial done on a landscaping job you did? Or am I thinking of someone else? I get so confused. Did they say when the Mobil 1 commercial is scheduled to go on air?

Is that coffee still warm? No? Well hot chocolate is better for a day as damp and cold as it is out there. Took DS to the doctor today.....he got a knee to the thigh during yesterday's game and he's having alot of soreness just walking. Deep contusion he said. No game tonight - he'll sit the bench. He's off tomorrow and next game is Thursday. Doc said if he can rest it a few days and keep ice on it he *might* be able to play Thurs. BTW....they lost their first game by 1-point (33-32). DS took a game-winning shot with 1 second to go and missed it. Rats! That's how the ball bounces I guess (pun intended).

I'm off to start on an apple cobbler for dessert after the chicken & noodles tonight. Mmmmm.......I'll save y'all some. The kids aren't big on sweets (least not the homemade kind!). What's wrong with kids these days anyway? Prefer the sugar-high candy bars and sour stuff more than a pie or cake or cobbler. Tskk tskk tsk. I musta done something wrong raising them.

DH made it home in time for dinner last night. It's so good to have him home. This was a 5-day trip and I didn't realize how much I'd missed him. Kids and weather had me going so much.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Yea, Brenda, for your first EVER homemade bread! My first wasn't beautiful, but man did it taste and smell good!

I had intended to bake some today, but it seems my loaf pans must still be in storage. Drats.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Cleaning Poem

I asked the Lord to tell me
Why my house is such a mess?

He asked if I'd been 'puting,
And I had to answer "yes"

He told me to get off my butt
And tidy up the house

And so I started cleaning up...
The smudges off my mouse.

I wiped and shined the topside
That really did the trick...

I was just admiring my work...
I didn't mean to 'click'

But click, I did, and LO! I found
A real absorbing site

That I got SO way into...
I was into it all night

Nothing's changed except my mouse
It's very, very shiny

I guess my house will stay a mess...
While I sit here on my hiney.

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

Homemade bread is the best! Toss some my way please, hehe.

Those lambs are the cutest things ever. Kind of makes me feel bad for eating veal, LOL.

Congrats on your new found fame Draven! I'll be watching the T.V to try and see you. :-)) Now we can all say "we knew her before..." . Hehe.

Mmm cookies... I got some peanutbutter cookies in the freezer too- y'all are welcome to some! Just gotta fight the cat, haha.

Lenexa, KS(Zone 6a)

Ho ho ho, Darius!!!! That's ME!!!!

Edgewater, MD(Zone 7a)

Oh those lambs are adorable, makes me want one, I would name it...................."Lawnmower"

Thanks Jocy, Im not sure when it will be aired but when I do Ill be sure to let you know, like I said before, hopefuly they wont cut me out altogether, it would be a neat thinh to tell the grandkids when I have them.

Now to sneak off into crimson's freezer, I can much way too many peanut butter cookies than are good for me, but oh they are so good.

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Darius...ROTFLMA(oopsH)O! Strange you should post that...I was looking at my keyboards this morning...the only shiney part on it the space bar! LOL (oh and the e - the d - and the s are now missing...and it's NOT because I *cleaned* so hard they washed off!

Brenda...glad hubby made it home, sorry you missed him so much but isn't it nice to KNOW that? ;-) I hate it when kids get hurt playing sports...hope DS is feeling better real fast! (Get those cookies sorted out yet? ...tsk tsk tsk...and *why* not? hehehe)

And D.C. ROFL again! If I see the puppy driving around on those commercials, I'll definitely *know* it was supposed to be *your* commercial. hehehe (He's a beauty!)

Crimson...are those cookies already baked? (I hope I hope I hope) If not, toss some in the oven over there...it won't take long...oh...and *thanks* for offering! :-D

I almost forgot! BRENDA...SAVE me some BREAD!!! (doggone it girl, you're have me working in the kitchen baking things I shouldn't be eating. That bread sounds SO good...I think I smell it!...yep!)

~julie~

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

Sorry y'all they're a walmart $2.00 special, already baked, LOL!

Went outside to look at some plants- found a rooted cutting of a hydrangea PeeGee I'm sending to a Dger. Grandma has a ton of little lilies popping up she's giving me. Yippie!

Mmmmm just heated a can of baked beans and opened some hot and spicy cheeze-its. Hmmm, maybe this is why I'm not married.. too many beans!!! LOL
There's plenty!

Draven, you must remember your DG buddies when you're famous! LOL

Lenexa, KS(Zone 6a)

Bread was very tasty!!! Mmmmmmm.....I think it's now a half a loaf!!

Julie!! Why of course those cookies are all sorted into 12 neat piles and all but 2 piles have been picked up by eager Girl Scouts and their mommas & daddys!! The fun begins in 2 wks when the $$ all have to be turned in.

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

Just planted some seeds and set them in my bedroom window- it's looking like a jungle in there now! Almost don't have room to sleep, haha.
I got some really neat Brazilian MG's from..... yardbird I believe. Planted one and am gonna baby it all winter, muhaha. Mum was so excited when I pulled up a picture of one. They are beautiful! Hopefully I'll get enough seeds to share this year!
Planted some gourd seeds too- let's see what happens, LOL.
I'm trying an air potatoe vine- I want it to go all around the top of my walls and hang down. This is so exciting!
Why is it coversations almost always turn to food and plants? LOL

south central, WI(Zone 5a)

Wow, a lot to catch up on! Dcat-when you are rich and famous-please remember us!! And the little lambs-awwww
Computer was having fits and I was in withdrawal-sigh...that it has come to this.
Would love a cup of tea. Have to prepare for the coming days of single digit temps. Need to pick up some bread tomorrow (sorry Julie) and get some stuff for comfort food. If you get up this way--I know the best bakeries-my thighs will attest to that-ah the baquettes!!
I splurged and picked up some carnations and double tulips of a dark peach/rose color. That bouquet, along with the poinsettia, will keep me going until the orchids bloom. Hopefully they will get me through until gardening weather.
Wish I knew what kind of tulips they were. They were the fully double ones, but most showed 2 immature buds along with the one in bloom-would make a wonderful sight. Hope I remember to check in the fall.
Gotta get going, see you folks (hopefully tomorrow, unless this puter has another hizzy fit.

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Wow, what a busy place your kitchen was today, Julie. Homemade bread AND apple cobbler. You folks have been busy today. I'll have a bit of that cobbler with my tea, thank you. Yummmmmm!

More lamb information. The flock is mixed breeds, some white faces and some black faces. The speckled faces you see are mixtures, they stay that way on faces and legs. Body spots fade away and by about 3 months old there are no body spots left. We try to keep ewe lambs with white faces, provided all other inheritable factors are ok. The white faced ewes have better mothering abilities, and a better grade of wool than the black faces, so their wool is worth more. The flock of ewes produce about 1600 pounds of wool every year, but wool prices are down and hardly pays for the shearing. The lambs are raised for meat and replacements since every year a few sheep die from coyote killings and other factors. Some just get too old to produce good lambs so they are sold, and there are accidents, too. Black faced rams are used on the flock to produce lots of meat lambs, and there is always a white face or two to provide the replacement ewe lambs. Now and then we do get a black or nearly black lamb that stays that way, the black sheep of the family. For whoever said something about veal, that is a different product, from cattle. The ranch also raises cattle and tries to sell everything as certified Organic meat.

It looks like we might have a movie star at the kitchen table! Golleeeee! Isn't that fun! You didn't even have time to get nervous!

Darius, is that cute poem one of your hidden talents? How are you feeling? I know you had a really hard time recently.

I went to town today, did some shopping, had lunch with my hubby and then met my neighbor at a 2nd hand store to haul an antique dressing table home for her. We spent about an hour poking around and I bought a cute old fashioned child size red sled. I've got a patch of ?? (snow in summer?) with blue green leaves and white flowers all summer, so I got an inspiration to put the sled in that little patch. Inspirations are not to be denied!

Gotta go see what else happened around the garden today. Goodnight.

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

Dravencat, DD & SIL were down this evening; they both work in the commercial production industry. They said: You _legally_ should be paid scale for being in a commercial. Any commercial.
Ya don't have to be a actors guild member for a one shot commercial BUT they hafta pay you. CASH, bye the way and you choose where it goes after. AND they must pay whether they use the footage or not.

(Zone 4b)

Thats right Blooms!!!!! Dont feel sheepish Dravencat!!!, the budget for a single ad campaign is more $$$$$$ than you and I will ever see on a gameshow!!!!!!. Its an amazing machine. Plus you can get additional payment if the footage is reused or used internationally.
Love the lambs..

Edgewater, MD(Zone 7a)

You guys are awesome, now I think I really need to look into this some more, but for me for right now if it came down to a fight I think Id just let it go so I can enjoy the memory and next time they would have to pay me up front or at least "show me the money".

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

I have the eggs out - how many should I fix today? Whole wheat toast is ready for the toaster too - anybody have any fresh squeezed orange juice?? Pass on the coffee cake - dieting you know.... Rebecca's garden is on the tv - pull up a chair. I'll pour you a cup of joe.

Edgewater, MD(Zone 7a)

Ill be greedy, 2 eggs please however you'd like and its not fresh squeezed but its not from concentrate, is that all right? Who wants butter on thier toast? Ive got the knife ready.

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

Mmmm Toast! I'll take some and two eggs, fully cooked. :-D And some orange juice too. I have enough Kumquats for all . :-) Coffee too!
Oh, Rebeccas garden! She's great. :-)

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Oh My GOODNESS!!! Such a crowd! I LOVE IT!!! So many interesting things going on here, you guys are the greatest...and I just love having you at my table. I think I can turn the heat down (Or am I having a relapse and this is just another 'hot flash'? LOL)

Crimson...(I like Walmart Peanut Butter cookies BEST!!) LOL & LOL Beans AND plants in the bedroom *could* be a factor to 'singleness'. :-D

Brenda...~little clappy jumpin up and down emoticon here!~ (I wish we had smilies here on DG, they really come in handy to minimize the typing. :-D) I'll bet having the cookies even *this* far 'done' feels great! (How did your bread turn out? Yummy I'll bet.)

Marcia....!!!!! You made me LOL with your "going to pick up the bread" (I'm only 50 miles from the good stuff! :-( :-D

Mary, I never had any idea that the lambs color woud change. Very interesting info, there! When we raised the goats, we kept the does for milking and sold the bucks for meat around Easter time. They are part of the Greek (I think I remembered that correctly) celebration...if they were born too late for that market, well...let's just say....no more. ;-) BTW I *loved* your inspiration for the sled...I have a patch of the S-i-S too. The only problem is that it's mostly green with just a few flowers, maybe better next year (OR right now would be good! The *real* stuff is nearly a foot deep.)

D.C. I was thinking the same thing that Blooms and Gretagreta (HI!! Welcome!) And I'm *still* waiting...for that ID picture so I'll know when I see you on TV ;-)

Sarv...If I was going to eat them quickly, I'd have mine over-easy...but since I'm doing too much talking, how about some nice scrambled ones. And the whole wheat toast really sounds GOOD to me right now. Thanks...oh and here's some of "simply un-fooled around with" OJ, help yourself.

There's *fresh* coffee in the pot and the tea water is hot over there in the blue enamel pot on the stove (did you notice it matches my Kitchen-Aid? I love that deep blue color!)

Rebecca = Martha Stewart with a bubbly personality. hehehe

I've gotten 3 dozen containers filled with wintersown seed! I'm doing good! And just in case you think I'm sowing these things nice and thin, take another look! There's a whole package of seeds in every one of them. It's going to be a nightmare when/IF they all germinate! I'll be "plugging" them in instead of planting, I assure you. LOL Oh and there's still about 75 more packs to go. (THANK YOU DG FRIENDS!!! (I think! LOL)

See ya guys later...enjoy your breakfast!

~julie~

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

Ohhh that defiantely calls for plugging! LOL
Walmarts` goooooooood LOL!
In with the beans and plants- I tossed an egg salad sandwhich, LOL. Oh yeah, I'mma be that single old lady down the road peeking from her closed shades throwing rocks at passing kids, LOL!
But gosh durn it- I'll have a purdy garden!

Now- what kind of seeds did you plant?

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Crimson...(LOL again...FOR real! :0D)

What kind of seeds? I'm planting perennials mostly...and a few hardy and self-seeding annuals. Without looking at my list, there's salvia, goatsbeard, Mountain Bluet, Sweet Cicely, Tree Malva, hollyhocks of all sorts, phlox, geranium (the real kind ;-)) coreopsis, gaillardia, shasta daisies, violas (I got a really great one from Seed Savers Exchange called Fuji Dawn w/variegated foliage...can't wait to see that one!), Pansies, Foxglove, Blackberry lilies, Siberian Iris, Jupiter's Beard, ....there's just too many to remember without my list. :-)

I have a huge yard...both my sons live on the same 10 acre 'block' as I live on. One of the lots has no planting whatsoever, one has a couple of flower beds (that's where I used to live!) and my place is new with just 'suggestions' of landscaping, so I'll have plenty of places to plant. I just hope I have the *energy* to do it all! :-)

DH and I were retired (not our idea!) the first of March last year from the place we'd worked for 20 years. DH was 61 last March so it was a bit scarey coming at least a year before we expected it. But we've survived beautifully. He works on his building projects (so far a new screen porch, a garden shed, raised bed veggie gardens (huge!) a paint 'booth' inside his garage where he paints his RC Model airplanes) and I play in the dirt! :-D I love it! And not having a paycheck obviously gives me more time NOT to spend it! LOL Hence the wintersowing, the concentration on growing things, and total obsession with plants and gardening.

Aren't you glad you asked? :0D)

~julie~

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

Egads!!!
Were in nearly the same "pickle" as you!
Me , mum and my grandparents live on the same ten acre block!
Fortuantely though- we all love to garden (`cept gramps, lol.) He just enjoys the fruit of our labour, occasionally plowing down some of granmas plants, hehe. We get him to build us stuff and he usually does it, griping all the way- but he does it, hehe. Raised beds are a dream for us.
I gotta jet- going to "work" soon. Bonsaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaai!!!! lol
Have fun guys! :-;;

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Oh drat! I just toasted a bagel so I'll have to pass on the other goodies, but I'll have some coffee....waiting for my DD to call so we can wallpaper her new "grooming" room, but it's getting late-ish, almost 9 a.m. and the weather is supposed to get nasty this afternoon....so if I add the travel time back and forth, at least an hour and a half all told, and the fact that I'm not dressed yet, that doesn't leave much time for papering....If she doesn't call before 10, she's on her own, or we'll do it tomorrow. If it starts raining/freezing I don't want to be on the Xway during rush hour traffic. That's just asking for trouble.

Dcat, they didn't ask you to sign any kind of waiver did they? I'd try for the money, and watch what you sign....so if they re-use it later, you could get paid in perpetuity. (always wanted to use that word in a sentence lol) It must be the oven making it hot in here, I'm still in my flimsy jammies. This happens every morning, I just stop by to check what's going on in the kitchen, and get stuck for a couple of hours. Nice poem, darius.....DH has one of those cans of compressed air to blow on your keyboard, and I get all kinds of crumby things out of it. Surprised it still works. Reminds me to call that computer place today and see if they've finished my FREE virus scan. Wanna bet they'll try to sell me something? Good luck. with that.
Just finished a book by Anne Rivers Siddons, "Island". Very good, as all of hers are. And I did run the vacuum this morning, so if DD doesn't call I'm going to go haunt the computer place and maybe catch a movie before the weather goes nasty. I give myself big rewards for measly little chores!! That way I can avoid thinking about what to make for dinner...I hate cooking for just two people, I have a really hard time reducing to quantities for just two. I usually end up freezing extra for lazy days...Maybe I can get that winter sowing started........(wasn't I going to do that on Monday??? LOL

Lazy old lady signing off.............. .:-)

Edgewater, MD(Zone 7a)

meezer I didnt sign anything so no worries there.

I reallly should vacuum and wash the dogs and about a hundred other things but not quite ready to start all the heavy work.
I keep thinking about winter sowing but am trying to make myself wait until at least the first of Feb. If Im lucky Ill be able to wait till the first ,LOL.

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Crimson...I think your 'gramps' and my DH are related! "Griping *All* the way." Eric (DH) is great when it comes to something *I* want, then wants 'praise' because it got done! LOL (He's a gooden, though. Wouldn't trade him off for anything. .....thinking....weeeeel....:-D)

M5....( that's easier to type than Sheila ;-)) sound like you got your day all planned out...complete with deadlines on that wallpapering job. hehehe That's the way to do it!)

Hope you both have a great day today...I think I'm headed back to the basement to see how many more laundry baskets I can fill with containers of seeds.

~julie~

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

About the poem... I'm glad y'all liked it but I didn't write it. Wish I could say I had, but my talents run in other directions!

Quick cuppa and I'm outta here, it's sunny and almost 60º outside!

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Good morning. I'll just have some of the orange spice tea, it is so good with honey so I brought a jar of the local "real" stuff we get from our neighbor who lets a beekeeper put hives on his place and they also visit my flowers, so it is really local honey. Every year they get a bucket of honey in exchange for a place to put the hives and our Christmas gift exchange often has jars or even small buckets of honey in it. This honey has a lot of alfalfa in it since the ranchers nearby raise hunderds of acres of it for the cattle and sheep, plus wild flowers and pollen from my garden. Honeybees will fly a mile to harvest pollen, a fact this is amazing to me, anyhow, if not to anyone else.

Happy wallpapering , Meezers, I tired that once. Just once. We must have looked like Laurel and Hardy! First we stripped 9 layers of brown patterned wallpaper off the walls. The house was very old and not insulated so I guess more layers of paper might have helped keep it warmer..... It was hard to believe how many layers and that they were all browns! We did get the job done but there were a few misaligned seams, flowers that looked chopped, a gap or two, some small tears that weren't too hard to get back together, wrinkles aplenty and some puffy places. After hanging a mirror, pictures and curtains the room looked fine, and much better than before.

Yesterday when I went to the Salvation Army thrift store to leave some donated items I took a quick look at the used book section and came out with 3 books, total 46 cents! (Big spender here!) One of them is a James Herriot, "All Things Wise and Wonderful" which I have read years ago and will enjoy again, then pass it along to my neighbor and then my DIL who are both animal lovers. I love thrift store shopping, cause it is like a box of chocolates, never know what I'll get. Over at the Antique store I bought the sled and that wasn't much of a bargain at all but I just wanted it!! Save here to spend there, kind of like a savings account..... pinch pennies so I can splurge!

I'd better get outside now and feed the horses, they are all looking toward the house. Thankfully the wind quit howling, last night any loose snow was making drifts, the temp was about 15 and when my DH was carrying in firewood he said he didn't want to stand around out there. Bet my tracks from yesterday are all filled in with drifted snow. See you later, might bring a freshbaked bread pudding.....

(Zone 8b)

Morning All,
Gosh you are a busy lot today! Could I have a drop of the OJ please?
Today I really am going to get going on my veggie garden - but first I'm catching up on DG - again! The trouble with virtual gardening is its too easy! The dust is growing in the house corners too, but that I can turn a blind eye to, no trouble!
The weather here is supposed to get rough tomorrow, so I better get going if I'm going to make a start outside. I'll be back for coffee later.
Carol

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Good Morning Darius...see ya later...

Mary, I'm with you on the wallpapering, let someone else do it. ;-) I saw a show, not sure what channel, called 'Mysteries of the Garden.' One segment was on Bees and it was one of the most interesting and informative I've ever seen. (I love that show!) Will ya give me the recipe for your bread pudding? I've never made it...and only got my first taste about a month ago.

Carol...you're showing signs of the dreaded "but first" disease! :-D

I was just thinking, I really need to get started on something "BUT FIRST" I have to get the beef stew together..."BUT FIRST" I have to ...no...I already DID that.
