Here ya go, Darius. Actually, the part one was getting pretty slow for me on my connection too.
We're mostly talking...nothing in particular and everything in general. We're having coffee and...
...and you're welcome to join us. Pull up a chair, there's plenty of room.
~julie~
Coffee and...part 2 :-D
Oh good, a new start. Would share the bean soup and grilled cheese that I am going to have. Visited at friends last night. He was in pain from 7 hours of shoveling snow without a break. I nearly gave him a whack along side the head for his stupidity. Not a thing to do at any age, esp. someone older than me, who also has health problems. Luckily for him, his wife had homemade rhubard pie, or he'd been in more pain.!!
Julie, thanks for the new thread. Marcia, I've got just the thing for your friend, a message mat that has heat if you want it. OOOO it just turns you to jello and only cost about $30 on sale at the discount store. I just bought mine, my son got one for Christmas and loves it, he has a bad back and works in construction. Comes home aching every day, gets on the mat and it really helps. Walmart has one and probably lots of other stores too, mine is not the same as my son's, his is the Walmart one and does a few more things.
The dinner creation was very tasty, have enough of the sauce left for another meal and will cut up the remaining chicken breast into it and maybe thin it with some milk and call it soup next time around.
See you in the morning. Sleep well.
Ohhhhh Marcia...you just tripped my trigger! My favorite meal in the whole wide world is beans (or bean soup) and cornbread (but I'd be mighty pleased with the grilled cheese sandwich.) I have a husband like your friend...totally "nobody home" when it comes to pushing *way* too far. Funny thing is, in my case, it's *me* who suffers b/c HE won't take a pill! Some people's kids...I swear. ;-) Hope he feels better real soon. But then Rhubarb pie tends to 'fix' just about anything that ails ya.
Mary, we enjoyed our crock-pot meal too...and there's leftovers for lunch.
Oh, if anyone's interested, there's Dutch Apply pie on the counter. Goes really good for a midnight snack.
~julie~
I just love a good bean soup and fresh hot cornbread! Grilled cheese sandwiches rank right up there, too. But, one time I had gone from Maryland to Boone, NC when it was still very rural, and ordered a grilled cheese sandwich at the only locak jopint. When I bit into it, I almost spit it out! They made them with a thick layer of mayo before grilling.Yuck!
Darius...LOL...(if I'd been drinking ANYTHING when I read your post, my monitor would be wearing it!) that mayo story reminded me of how my mother made peanut butter sandwiches when I was a kid. Yep! Mayo right along with the peanut butter and jelly....ARGHHHHHH it isn't any wonder that it took me so long to even TRY peanut butter the way "normal" people eat it. :-D (I'm still giggling...)
~julie~
Ugh! Mayo. Peanut butter should only be eaten on a large spoon-saves the calories of the bread. Oh, I love cornbread, with nice honey-hot from the oven-better get some of that soon. Due to be up to 35 on Wed and then down to 6 as a high by Friday. Sounds like good cornbread weather to me.
Morning early birds, pass that coffee pot over here, I'm not quite awake yet. Made a pot of chili for supper yesterday 'cuz the Packers were playing (losing) and dinner depends on when half time is...not for me, I'm not a sports fan, but DH is. I can always find something to do, like go out and spend my Christmas gift cards....Linens and Things had their clearance sale, 75% off lots of seasonal stuff and other things. Picked up a pretty embroidered holly berry and leaves table cloth for $5, couple of nice vases for summer flower cutting, floral hat boxes, and spent the whole card except for a few cents. Fun. Then I did a repeat act at Pier 1. Came home with bags and bags and still have one card left. When I get my computer back I'll show you the hat boxes from LNT, they are so cute, but one has already turned into a cat bed.............maybe the other one will be too. Maybe I'll get going on some winter sowing today, provided I get off DG and get dressed.............DS asked me for my pea soup recipe , and I just laughed. I said, buy the peas and read the bag!! Old standby. He hated it as a kid....wonder what's changed his taste buds. Still won't eat spinach though.........before I got I'll have just a teeny slice of that key lime pie................Mmmmmmmmmm
Marcia...obviously, I agree with you on the "no mayo" with peanut butter! LOL But it's only fair to my Mom to tell everyone it wasn't really her fault. My Mom grew up in Australia and I don't think they were familiar with peanut butter (that's back in the 20's and 30's.) She did talk about something called 'Vegemite' but I have no idea if they served *that* with mayo. LOL
Meezers, sound like you had fun shopping. And it also sounds like your cat enjoyed the purchases. I'd love to see those hat boxes and how long is it going to be before you get your computer back, anyway? :-) Tell me what you're going to winter sow.
For me, I think I'm going to go Internet shopping and order some new coleus plants. (evil grin here)
Catch y'all later,
~julie~
Good morning. Just the thought of vegemite made me shudder! Awful stuff, a friend brought some home from a trip and I tasted it, just once.......... very bad stuff. She brought home 2 or 3 jars of it and was disappointed when she ran out. Nobody else would touch it so it has to be something they give to unsuspecting babies who acquire a taste for it. Poor kids.
Tea supply is getting low, I'll bring another box next time I come in. Anybody got a favorite or should I just bring a variety? The pie looks really good but I will pass for now, haven't had any breakfast.
There's a little more snow here that happened overnight, snow flurries are in the forecast, again. Yesterday it snowed hard for about 10 minutes, and then the next time I looked the sun was out. My neighbor asked me if I could help her bring home an antique dresser today or whenever the weather permits, so we'll have to see what kind of day we really get. She is a plant lover and wants to see my blooming Rhipsalis, and of course she would also like a start of it but she doesn't have a good place for growing houseplants and gave me her Christmas cactus because it wasn't doing well. I took another picture of it yesterday and will post that later, haven't downloaded them yet.
Time to get hubby and me some breakfast. Later.
Good morning everyone! Sorry I've not stopped in for the last few days. DH is out of town (comes back late this afternoon --- YEAH!) and it's been me and the kids.
I brought some bagels and cream cheese this morning for anyone that's hungry. Oh, and here's more of that Vanilla Nut creamer. Now where'd I put my DG mug? Oh...here it is. Why thank you Julie, don't mind if I do. Darius, would you hand me that sugar down there? Many thanks.
I see everyone has been oh so busy.
Mary I see you've got your son all moved. I hope they are settling in nicely. And, my now you've another yard to plant if you so choose!
Julie you put us all to shame with all this garden work you're getting done. I've said I'll start cleaning out those containers this week, but first I have 75 cases of girl scout cookies to pick up at 11 this morning. (Meezers - can you pass that cream cheese this way I just need another little schmear?)
I just realized as I lay in bed last night trying to fall asleep, that I think the last 2 years it took me & DH in both vehicles to get all those cookies loaded up. Now he's out of town so I'm on my own. Might be a 2 tripper this morning. *sigh* I keep telling myself this is the last year I'm doing this, but I'm always the first mom with her hand in the air when they ask for volunteers. I suppose I secretly like organizing it. Kind of like a coop, I suppose. lol
Alright, I've got to scoot. A couple more threads to read and then I *really* have to get dressed and see about taking a seat out of the truck to squeeze in a few more cases of cookies.
Everyone have a great day!
Yuk the mention of Vegemite is enough to turn my stomach this early in the day!! We had something called Marmite in the UK - very similar, People love it or hate it, no half way house on it at all. I'mm a hater!!!
Pass the coffee to take the taste away please!
Going to start getting the veggie patch prepared this week. Lots of digging and adding of rotted manure and soil improver, if the weather holds up that is. I'm just begining to think about starting my seeds too. I'm about to turn the guest room into a plant nursery, so no visitors till March when they go outside.
Its not until after 12th Night when the decorations are down that I feel the year really gets going, so its just about time to give it a kick start now. Did any one make New Year resolutions? If so, how many of us are still on track? I decided not to this year, I only feel guilty when they have gone up in smoke before the end of January, so I've saved myself a guilt trip this year :>)
Well if I can tear myself away from the keyboard I'm off to start work outside now. Thanks for the coffee, I'll drop by again later if I may.
Carol
Ewwwwwwwwww Vegamite, worst stuff I ever tasted...I picked up some Nutella recently and when i opened it I thought, Oh NO it looks like vegamite but was pleasantly surprised to find it's very yummy, hazelnuts and chocolate!! I'll have a drop or two of tea, I brought some orange spice, which I love and wanted to share. No treats tho", some evil genie made all my clothes shrink over the holidays! No resolutions for me either, I am dissolute and wayward and proud of my lack of discipline...!! For winter sowing I'm going to dig out all those seeds I salvaged from various gardens last fall, NONE of which were Iabeled, so it will be a nice surprise (I hope) when they sprout. I can identify some of them but what the heck, it's just like the stuff I stash in the freezer!
Except I usually end up throwing those out....as in "What the heck was this, amyway?"
My DS called me from NC this morning and they are selling their house, which they paid about $70,000 for twenty years ago....selling price $350,000!!! I laughed because the house is just a little pieced together ranch, half of it is a construction co. trailer that was added on, and the original was army barracks!! A developer will raze the house, and put two duplexes on the lot, and probably sell those for lots more than what they will pay them. . I congratulated her and said I always wanted to have a rich relative, and asked if I have to call her Your Majesty from now on!!! Can you imagine!! They are near the beach, so that's the big attraction...Stuff like that never happens to me! Probably bcause I never make New Year's Resolutions and keep them. LOL
Called the computer place this morning. Nope, not done yet. Geeeeeeez ,think I'll pass on the next Freebie they offer me. Using DH's is a big pain in the patootie. But, at least I have some use, even if I do have to put the keyboard on my lap and can't see the screen very well. Ohhh whine whine whine, Sheila, Shut UP. See you guys later.
Mary, I love any kind of tea be it black, green or herb (I think my favorites are raspberry and a nice mint.) How nice of you to offer to bring us a new box. As for the Vegemite...I haven't tried it...and doubt seriously if I could ever be tempted. :-D
Brenda...oh, those bagels and cream cheese are perfect. I was looking for something to satisfy that carb craving...worked great! Me? Put everyone to shame? Oh, I don't think so. hehehe I just *have* to do something that makes me feel like I'm still connected to my garden. I guess I could vac the dirt off the carpet if I really wanted to make mud pies. :-D Nah....that's too much *work*.
Carole (okus) I'm SO glad you stopped in. You're always welcome at our table. If you need some help digging in that veggie garden, I'm here and would love to help. I don't know anything about 12th night, but is my Christmas tree supposed to be dismantled before Valentine's Day? (Yes...it's *still* up! Brenda...stop laughing! :-D)
Guess I'd better get something constructive going here...but like a lot of us here at this table, I'd rather sit and talk.
(Julie pushes herself from keyboard...)
Be back later...
~julie~
Knock , Knock - new visitor here - am I welcome? I brought my own diet coke (I know Darius, I;m trying to stop drinking it!) Already had breakfast, but I will have an apple - even brought some to share.
Power was out here for a couple of hours - traffic accident down the road. Brr, did it get cold in the house, plus I had to leave and couldn't get the garage door open - opener wouldn't work!! Tried to release it so I could lift it by hand, but that was a no go too. Had to walk out to the barn and de-snow the truck and 4-wheel drive it to the road. whew... Then went to Contours for a work out.
Think I'll plant some seeds today - just to get my hands in some dirt.
It's almost time for lunch, maybe I should stay???
Oh, Boy... Bagels..... yum! Cannot get good ones here, just the grocery store kind. I grew up with freshly made bagels from a nearby Jewish bakery (I dated the son) and got spoiled. I like poppy seed bagels, toasted (but a sacrilege if they are fresh and still hot) with a small tad of butter. The cream cheese would be better for me if I'd use the non-fat but I cannot stand the taste. Anyone care for some lox to go on top of their cream cheese?
M5, your son made out like a bandit... the tax break with mtg. interest all those years, and now a profit to boot! Are they moving your way?
okus, I have a jar of marmite someone gave me, so far opened. What do folks do with it, assuming they don't find it distasteful as you do?
I asssume 12th Night is what so many of the Latin cultures celebrate as "The Day of the Three Kings" when supposedly it took them 12 days following the Star to reach the manger. The Latins I've known celebrate it on Jan. 6th.
Julie, I need one of your energy pills! But, I'll have a cup of green tea if there is any...
meezers (Sheila...thanks for the name! :-D I was wondering...)
Somehow I missed seeing your post up there...must have taken a long time to get mine written. I laughed all the way through your post...you're delightful to have around! (Can I borrow your 'rich' relative for a while? hehehe) And those seeds with no ID...HAHAHAHA I have a bag full of those too! (Hope you only kept the good ones!)
sarv...welcome aboard! Of course, you're welcome...and thanks for the apples, I like the way they set off the center of the table...now, now, everyone, don't be grabby...:-) Oo Ooo.....power out, garage door opener doesn't work...What a GREAT excuse for me to use! I love it! (but sorry you got cold...) Sure...stick around for lunch. I think there's a little potato soup on the stove...wait...there's chili too!
Darius...you know, it's not nice to talk about GREAT bakery in front of someone who lives so far out in the sticks that only bread available is Wonderbread! Sometimes I'd nearly drive to Madison to get a nice cripsy, crunchy italian roll. Drooooooool - Notice I said "sometimes"...then when I figure it's been probably 15 years since I've driven in 'city' traffic...I decide to just make my own. hehehe
Energy pills??? I'm glad you see me that way...hehehe...and *can't* see the reality of the situation. :-D
~julie~
Vegimite, as far as how my dad had me fix it for him, is spread on toast. I've never had any of it. My mom is an American and wouldn't let anyone feed it to me as a child. lol Smells like crushed up vitamins though and looks like grease. :)
No snickering here, Julie --- this guilty party also has her tree up and it's a real one. Oooooo....those needles are gonna hurt taken the lights out. Today's the day though...after I unload these 75 boxes of Girl Scout cookies.
Where's your bowls, Julie? I think I'll dip into some of that chili. Mighty cold here...29° and they said it was only gonna rain. Now their issuing warnings about freezing rain/ice again! *sheesh* and it's only early January. Anybody want some cheddar to go on their chili.
Gotta run....Leah says she's got to go and we don't mess around....if we don't make it then it's another diaper I've got to change! She's doing pretty good. 3 on Feb. 10th so maybe by then we'll be a "big girl" all the time! (a mother can only hope, right?)
Back in a bit to finish up that chili!
Hi again,
Dropped in to see if anyone fancied a slice of this fruit cake - wonderfully rich and sticky and has a distinct sniff of brandy to it too. If no one helps out I'm going to have to go shoping for bigger clothes!
Darius, Marmite is for spreading on toast or crackers. Those that love it think its wonderful!
!2th night - yes thats basically it, it is a strongly recognised tradition in my grandparents part of the world, Yorkshire in Northern UK. Not Latin though - very strongly non-conformist in that area, but I think its pretty universallly recognised in the UK. It represents the last of the 12 days of Christmas and the arrival of the Magi. The following day is the flight into Eygpt, so the end of the Nativity season. Tradition has it that all decorations should be down by then, or they must remain 'til Easter if bad luck is to be avoided. - Don't want to attract Herod and his infant slayers do we!!
I love all these ancient traditions, they link the generations. - My grandpa spoke a heavy Yorkshire dialect, very reminiscent in a lot of its words and phrases with the German I heard in North Rhine Westphalia. It made understanding easier for me when we lived there!
Is there another cup in that coffee pot? I've been sidetracked this morning, went into the garage for my stuff, saw the mess and got to sorting out. Now I'm back on DG. The digging is now postponed til tomorrow!
Angie...with *that* description...I know I *don't* want any. :-D
Brenda...have you gotten those 75 cases of GS cookies delivered yet??? (If you have any extra, I *love* the mint ones.) mmmmcheddar (sounds like something Homer would say. LOL) That would have been good on my potato soup, too. Oh well...to late, I ate it plain.
Carol, I guess I *could* leave mine up until Easter (I think Valentines is the latest I actually left one up ...hehehe) BUT I need the space in front of the window for more plants. (Yes, Brenda...the coleus plants are coming upstairs. But that's only because I need their space for NEW ones! :-D) And you know, we were discussing the "But first" disease in part one of this thread...I think Carol ran into it big time. LOL & LOL
~julie~
*WHEW* Does any one like to paint...I'm talking ceiling here...not the famous ceiling in Rome, but my new AZ room that used to be a screened in porch.....12 X 16. Just lacks some paint smacked on and it is finished!!
I think I have my son in law coerced into helping with it...I told him I was cooking one of his favorites this evening....Salmon Cakes...with Blueberry Cobbler for desert. I hope it works.
OHHH I'd love some more Fruit cake//and some orange tea would refresh me for sure...
MaryE...is it about time for the Lambs to arrive?? You better get some rest now while you can.
Well...come on out and grab a paint brush...and cobbler....Jo
Alas! I wish they were all gone Julie! Actually the 76 cases come to my house where Sarah (DD) and I will begin sorting tonight into individual scout's. They scouts will pick them up from my house tomorrow night - God willing. Ice/freezing rain predicted until 9am tomorrow now. If I can manage to keep my 3 kids and 3 dogs out of those cookies that long!
Top off my coffee....I'm froze to the bone from hauling all 75 cases out of my car into the house in a cold drizzle. Son's first basketball game (9th grade) is at 3:30 (40 min. from now) so I have time to warm up and then bundle Leah up and away we go.
DH called 1/2 hour ago and missed his connecting flight in Dallas back to KC. Landing gear wouldn't lock when they were coming in for a landing and stayed stuck until 5min. after his connecting flight took off for KC. *sigh* Says he'll be here in time for dinner. I hope so....I'm making his mom's taco recipe (New Mexican) and I need him here to help eat the mountain I'm making.
Tomorrow is a day of relaxation I keep telling myself (oh...and yes I'll begin taking down those decorations). Wouldn't want any bad luck and DH would kill me if it was up until Easter!!! Yikes!
Darius - been meaning to ask how your feeling these days. Are you needing that oxygen as much?
The only "gardening" I've gotten done in the last week is buying all kinds of daylilies at auction. Somebody save me!
Chicken and noodles sounds good for tomorrow if the weather's gonna stay this nasty. Probably won't be back tonight if DH finally makes it in. See y'all in the mornin' .
Jo...that dinner ought to talk *anyone* into helping you paint. Sounds terrific! And MaryE has lambs? Cool! (I did the goat 'thing' for a while...two sets of babies and we had to sell the herd cuz hubby lost his job.)
Brenda...I probably read your post backwards when I got the idea that you were delivering cookies instead of having them come to your house. It's still a lot of work. Hope hubby got home on time to help eat those tacos.
Two more seed catalogs come in today. On Saturday DH told me there was note in the mailbox saying that there *weren't* any more catalogs for me recieve. Looks like the mailman (OR DH was wrong! LOL)
Time to get the pie out of the oven...reheating Dutch Apple from last night. You're welcome to a piece...dessert plates are in the cupboard on the far right. Help yourself.
~julie~
Brenda, you wrote "chicken and noodles" for tomorrow night but my mind immediately jumped to "chicken and dumplings"! Maybe I'll bring some by for everyone to taste... that is if I don't end up with the hockey pucklets my mother sometimes made out of her rolled dumplings.
Nite, all!
Back to lapboarding....guess I might as well resign myself to this until I get mine back. BTW, my new rich relative is my sister, I used DS without thinking it could be used two ways.....If it was my son I'd have to start thinking of ways to suggest he repay me for all that torment he put me through growing up (him, not me, I'm not going to grow up ). Hahaha Hockey pucklets! .... my first try at baking powder biscuits were pucklets!! Aren't spaetzle and dumplings second cousins? Spaetzle is kind of pucky....at least the ones I've had were. Ve haff many Cherman restaurants in der Milwaukee area...und zay all serve chicken zoup mit spaetzle.
And uhhhhhhhhhhhh I sorta didn't get those seeds started.........tomorrow, tomorrow, I'll start those seeds tomorrow, it's only a day awaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay...
I'm so glad there is still some of that Dutch Apple pie left, and still warm from the oven is even better, with a cup of herbal lemon tea I'm all set. A great way to end the day.
No lambs yet, but the ewes are looking a bit round. The lambs will start comming about the end of Feb and continue into about mid April. March is a busy month. I work part time for my neighbor who has between 150 and 200 ewes, most have twins and that is a LOT of lambs. Last year I took lots of pictures so I will post one or two just to give you a look at the cutest critters on the planet. I get to hug lots of them.
My job is to go down to the neighbors barn and field in the middle of the night and bring any newborns and their mothers into the barn, tuck them into a small pen with clean straw, iodine the lamb's navels, make sure the lambs are ok and nursing, and that no ewes are in labor out in the field. Sometimes a ewe will have a hard time due to a malpositioned lamb and so I get to be a midwife or something and get them sorted out and out into the world. A set of triplets has 12 legs, tangled up sometimes! I get to go home before it gets light. Sometimes I am only there an hour or two, sometimes it is closer to 4 on those nights when we have what we call a lamb explosion. Ever try sleeping on a split shift when you've spent a couple of hours outside in the cold and are full of adrenaline? It's often hard to get back to sleep and by the end of March when most of the ewes have lambed I am quite tired. During the day I sometimes go back and help give shots, eartag the lambs, and help with pen cleaning, moving sheep around and whatever else needs to be done. My training for this was that I had a small flock of sheep for a few years.
I think I can run over to Jo's and have some cobbler now, all those miles will take care of the calories and I will be hungry when I get there. With any luck the painting will be all done.....
Ohhhh what a wonderful post Mary!
You must post pictures soon...pleeaaaaaaaaase! LOL Lambs are so precious. We wanted to get some Merino sheep someday so can use all the information we can read. Do you post much about the sheep? I can't imagine how tired you must be, lol.
Pictures!!!
Ohh pie. :-D
Can't wait to see pics of those cuddly lambs but what a job!! I got tired just reading it, it must be exhausting...maybe a piece of pie will wake me up, pass ttat coffee pot!!
Darius...Chicken and Dumplings...Yummmmmmmmmmm. When either of my DILs make Chicken and Dumplings, I 'begabowl' bigtime. DH is more of a meat and potatoes kind of guy...but me...I LOVE my carbs! (obviously) And even if they don't turn out 'light and fluffy' you can leave any leftovers with me. I promise they'll be safe...for about 2 seconds after I smell them in the house. LOL
Mary, how long have you been taking the 'night shift' with the neighbor's flock? That's a lot of work! Not to mention the temps you have to do it in. I loved having my dairy goat herd and learned a lot while I had them. Everything from de-horning, to giving shots and trimming hooves to the kidding season. One year we had twins born on Christmas Eve (We named those little girls 'Christa' and 'Noel') about 8 weeks before we expected any new borns. Baby lambs and goats are such fun to watch when they all start 'frolicking'...there's no way a person can be in a bad mood when those babies are performing. How many ewes are in the flock? Are triplets common? Triplets with the goats were extremely rare.
Crimson...See what you can learn when you pop in here! Glad you came in! Hope to see you again soon.
Brenda...if your here by noon, I hope you bring some C&N for lunch...cuz I'm going to help Darius finish off her C&D for supper. LOL
Nothing *planned* for today, I just wait see what strikes me first.
~julie~
Mary had a little lamb.....and another...and another....
I know Mary works very had in Lambing season....so I'll keep the hot chocolate on the readdy for her...
SIL got home too late to paint :(...but just in time for dinner.....paint brushes still available.
I have to go to my volunteer job (Coronado National Memorial) this morning...then into town for a staff meeting of the Widowed Support Center so no painting for me today.
Ya'll don't eat all the goodies up while I am gone...I'll need something good when I get home. Jo
Just popping in for a quick cuppa joe, didn't make a pot this morning. Cat got me up before it was light and I settled at the computer after I fed her, forgetting about coffee for some reason, LOL.
Already chowed down lunch and it isn't even noon yet - sorry I pigged down all the tuna - do have some carrots that I could share. We;re on diet fare here now... Have to fess up, I scrounged in the freezer and found some peanut butter/choco chips - had three handfuls. Still a half a bag left - anybody want a treat!!
hmmmm maybe I should make some tuna salad for lunch, or maybe salmon salad. I probably have a dozen cans in the pantry. I like the boned and skinned salmon that comes in the small tuna fish size cans...
It would be healthier than the corn chips and nacho cheese salsa I just ate, LOL.
Hi everyone, Sarv, we will help you eat those forbidden cookies! Bring 'em on! Pass that Logee's catalog over here, please. Take a look at this bronze leafed begonia on the back cover, wow, how unusual. I have seen them in several other colors and varigated but this one is a show stopper. I also see some Orchids, do any of you grow them? I have one in my greenhouse that belongs to my daughter-in-law, it was going to bloom and I accidently broke the tip off the flower stem, so I am hoping it will forgive me. I never thought I could grow orchids, but maybe I will have to get one of my own..... they are kind of spendy tho. On the other hand, so is the little lemon tree I want. Even if I never got lemons the blooms would be so fragrant and make the greenhouse smell wondereful.
Lambing info: I have been working there about 12 years now. I love the little guys, and they get frisky very fast. When a ewe has more than twins we take the extra lamb(s) and graft them on to another ewe who only has one. To do this we put them in a small pen and put the ewe's head in a stancion so she can't object too much when the lambs nurse. After a few days the grafted lamb smells just like her own lamb and she is used to having 2, so can usually be turned out without any problem. We watch them carefully for a couple of days to make sure she still loves them both. If we can't do a graft there is a neighbor who takes the extras and bottle raises them. Here are some pictures. This first little one is just about 15 minutes old, has got gotten to his feet and is wondering if the lunch counter is on this end.......
After a bonding period in a small pen as a single family group they are put into a small community pen with 3 other little families. This gives the lambs practice finding their mother in a group. The number on each lamb corresponds with the number on the ewe. This comes in handy if they get separated or one gets sick. The paint fades to nothing in about 2 months.
sarv!! THREE handfuls and there's still some left? LOL Toss em over here! Ooops! forgot my insulin shot again...better not. BRB
Well...I'm back...it's about 1/2 an hour later than when I started this post. DH came in with groceries to put away, then he got ticked off when there wasn't room in the freezers (three!) and finally he went back downstairs to work on his model. Whew! I'm glad that's over! (And yes...I took my shot...I think.Ah geez! Now I can't remember!! I hate it when that happens!)
OK...I'm 'blathered' -discombobulated- outta sync...be back later.
~julie~
