Yet More Seed Snatching

Merced, CA(Zone 9a)

Boy, I have to catch up here. Mag, I adore thee. A true weird spirit!!! I wrote the "Legend of Lady Annne" way back, the same style, I LOVE IT!! Good job, woman. I had to send that off to my DH, and then I spotted your DH's posting. I have been in serious pain ever since, the cats have scattered, I still can't stop laughing. (Takes another deep breath) Quiet?? Riiiiight......

Welcome, Eight, Hope! This is getting to be one heck of a group. We might get national attention when we take off on this trip. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? LOL!!

We finally managed to find time for an anniversary dinner last night. Favorite restaurant, linen table clothes, serious place. We are sitting down, looking at the flowers on the table. Amaranth!!! Lovely stuff. I had de-seeded mine the other day, I wonder.....put the bread plate under the flowers and gently massage them, quietly, discreetly. Nuthin. Bummer. David gasps, "Woman!! Stop that!! I can't take you anywhere!" Sigh.....

Nicole - it's usually the other way around with hubby sitting on the benches, guarding the bags and watching the talent. That's how I started. Everytime I cocked my head back, tracking something up the escalator I was getting poked in the back of the neck. Something about the fresh, turgid, bright new growth on an ivy. I wasn't moving (I had a perfect stake out) so I snapped off the offending shoot. Somehow it went home with me and the rest is history. Don't forget hotels and doctors offices either.

Cherishlife - cemetary? Thought you'd never ask. Be SURE to cruise by the dumpster. There's a lot of potted mums in the fall (clay pots at that!) and the so-fragrant casablanca ('Easter') lilies in the spring that get tossed when the blooms fade. I got a great old rose start from cemetary around the corner. Actually, the rose started inside the fence but had traveled outside to the ditch. I ripped a piece out and planted it in a big plastic tub I cut the bottom out and sunk. Beautiful, pink, fragrant, single roses in spring and the shiny scarlet rose hips persist through the winter looking like it was decorated for Christmas.

Ahh, that ol coot .. Dang his hindend!! .. LOL ..
He jes had to go and mess up my 'play place' .. and scatter dust, sand, and boogers ever whar !! ..

I can hardly keep up with my 'house' work, as it was !! .. hee hee
AHHH HAHHH.. I see now .. what his alterior motive has been .. all along !! ... HAH!
.. LOL ..

Either ^ that .. or he got tired of hearing me just bust out laughin' so doggone hard .. that I could never get my breath about me .. to answer him quick enuff .. bout " what'd I find, so gosh awful funny - this time? " ... LOL ... The ol buzzard ... hee hee

Ya jes gonna have to post your 'Legend' on a thread here, soon - so you can share it with the likes of the rest o'us, you know! .. Sure would like to relish in some more stories and tales .. and any/everthing in betwix ! ... lol

Ohhhhh me .. ladyanne .. your 'serious' dinner place .. 'special' anniversary dinner 'details' - - has jes my made my mornin' !!! ... LOL ...

Your po' hubby, David! .. He's apparently done looooong learned, that there is little to be done about hoping for some vague display of 'discretion' .. when it comes to such !! I gotta ask tho' .. How'd HIS anniversary turn out ? .. hee hee ...

BTW .. How long are ye 'in fer' ? .. lol

In all sincerity .. hope it was one spectacular celebration .. for the both of you! Congratulations!!!
... And best wishes for many more ... !

hope43 .. glad to see that it 'looks' like you're in better spirits! .. Nope, I too, see no reason to refrain from borrowin' seed from the cemeteries. I honestly did look, and hard! Most all folks have opted to use the artificial flowers, and understandably. Probably, cause of the likes of 'us' such folks! . lol .. Seriously, the artificials do 'keep' longer, and are far less expensive for folks that want to pay tribute and hold their loved ones in memory by placing flowers. It was more, jes a personal preference, that day. ... Besides, I honestly did look! There wasn't a 'real' anything there - but some very overgrown HUGE boxwoods, I think they are. And a couple of spruce trees .. (hmmmmmm?) But that yucca thing - jes did purt'near nuffin fer me! (Plaauukyukkers!)

Cherish .. I fibb'd, and didn't mean to! Please forgive me .. ? .. We have dropped due south, heading into Texas via an Oklahoma state hiway. Hiway 69, I think it is! And indeed have seen some mitey beautiful country side and hills through there. I keep on tryin' to tell you folks .. I's definitely got 'sometimers'!! Besides, my wee brain can only function at its best .. keepin' on jes one lil subject at a time. HEE .. don't chunk me any curve balls, puhleez! .. LOL

NC .. I whole-heartedly agree with ya! - This, is one of the best threads here! Mindja, we all understand .. that, not every single one of us likes the very same things. But, I, for one .. certainly haint in no competition with anybody, for any doggone reason. Just blesses my heart, that there is so so very much .. for each and every one of us here. Also, nc .. Mondays have gotta be pretty tuff fer you workin' folks ... to have to get back into the 'swing' of things. Jes hope, that's 'all' it is fer ye, today ... And here's hopin' it's a good'un!

Lottery .. Ha! Now, that's certainly an idy!! (idea, hee) .. Do (we) need to draw up a legal binding contract ... that binds (us) .. cleptobotaniacs .. and our long talked about OUTING (I mean, 'mission') !!??
.. LOL ..

Weezins .. yep, ah thank this heuh hillbllikins pair, is thru with our bodayshus goins on here now. .. hee hee .. Appreciate the allowance of our skirtin' by thru here .. ha

Hilarious. Certifiable we be, ESPECIALLY Mags. Thank ye! We be 'youngins' here with only 6 years under our belts, and promises of 30 which we renew each year. Ah, the early, romantic teenage years, only to be rattled by overly obsessive, enthusiastic partners who can't keep her fingies away from the plants and flowers, and garage sales, estate sales, junk piles, or hilarious forums, that we pass by. He won't take me with him to the dump anymore because I ignore the "No picking" sign.

Really post the Legend? Waaaay off subject.

OK, here it is... Part IV: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/468970/

Castro Valley, CA(Zone 9a)

This IS the best place I've been, when real life monkeys takes you down, and your feeling sad, or bad, to come here and belly laugh so hardy, is good for your health as I have heard even the Doctors say, and for so long I thought, gosh I have a problem, I look at my bagels, the veggie at the grocery store, the nuts on the table, the spices in my cabinet, I've planted a lot from stuff I wondered about, makes us human I suppose to wonder, right? They do throw away the beautifull flowers relatives and friends bring their loved ones at the cemetary, why not replenish those, I sure would think they're looking down at us with pleasure, better than the garbage dump I say!
And why not pick seeds everywhere we go, those get trown away as well, ditched forever.... We're doing a service I say, to regrow such beauty, don't you agree? Thanks you guys for keeping this conversation going for so long, I'm sure some here are house bound, can't really get around much anymore, what a joy to dream and play, and laugh about our bodily woes of old age, and the things we wish that we could do if given the chance, If I did win the lottery I would take you all with me on a real Road Trip of of our lives, Annie

Equi, this goes a way back in this long and wonderous thread- but that's you in the dumpster? Who's holdin' out on who here????? Hmmm... I sense a conspiracy!
But ladyanne it's true dumptrucks are fun and loaded with potential opportunities!
'Cept when you get a flat tire, or all the hydraulic fluid leaks out at the dump with the bed up... or you get stuck in the mud. (All of which has happened in the last few weeks!) and I won't even mention the gas station incident...

Can I bring the English Ivy for the fire? And the marshmallows of course...

Magpye, you are too funny! I love the song!

puldeau, I thought Deer AR was familliar, but I didn't recognize you! Here, you're known affectionately as the ol' coot!

hanna1, I think your yellow flower might be some kind of hypericum... or could be a primrose of some sort but I'm leaning toward hypericum.

About cemetary snatchin'- I have to agree magpye, yuccas are yuccy, but I sort of like some of the new variegated ones...

Have you ever heard of the Texas Rose Rustlers? They rescued some great old roses from cemetaries. They used to be my heroes- until I found you guys!!!!
There is info about them at the antique rose emporium.
:)

Does my leaf-nappin' fall in between the Seed-snatchin / Dumpster Diving?
The tidy little upscale neighborhoods down south have landscapers come in and bag their leafs and line them up right on the curb. For 4 years now I've been going down there and hauling back 15-20 at time (what'll fit under tarp in my S10). Last year was 150 bags. I'm up to 158 this fall but I think I'm done. Run em through my 8.5hp chipper/shredder which takes care of stems, bark, nuts and stuff. Then run some through the basket shredder if I want real fine stuff for dressing beds out front. Sometimes I'm lucky and get a full bag of pine needles which are great for putting in the bottom of containers. I also cut them into 1" lengths and find it's great ontop for houseplants, kind of like an indoors mulch. Plus I never have to buy yardbags.
I'm laying back on 6' pile in the back of the veg garden after a 40 bag day with a good start on the winter beard.
