Yet More Seed Snatching

Pocola, OK(Zone 7a)

ROFLMBO Just HOW LONG did it take to write that? Magpye, that is hilarious. I don't have a poetic bone in my body.

Creative genius at work....
Can we get that printed on the back of weeze's seed packs?

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Here here! Magpye! Brilliant!!!!

Weez, You crack me up!!!!
Sugar, GardenAddic, You're too kind!!!
Magpie, I will sing your song for the Holidays, So well said!

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

I vote for Magpye as our official poet laureate! Looks like we'll need a lap top or two in order to get printouts so we can sing around our post raid bonfire.

NC, no problem... I'm so spacy I can't remember what the heck we were working on! LOL!

I volunteer to provide lots of buckthorn for the post raid bon fire!

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Hey, Equil, I looked up buckthorn, and I guess you won't miss a few there in the midwest, will you!

Good old Rhamnus frangula and R. cathartica! And there are many more there ripe for the taking! Let me know how much you want for your little bonfire and I'll have sugarweed come and get it once she gets her new CDL! Say, I've got Japanese honeysuckle too. That stuff is great as a firestarter! Really gets that European Buckthorn going good!

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

How bout some Kudzu! We could have a bonfire that can be seen from the moon!

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

I can add some Devil's Club... that will bet it cracklin, too!

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

new and late at the same time...
Fall tis the season to snatch: watch the big planters infront of various offices and corps that may have uncommon varieties of pelargonium & coleus for cuttings and you may even lift tubers of the black or chartreuse sweet potatoe to overwinter.
CANNAS - look at what they still charge per rhizome for a Tropicana or Bengal. Welll, they do set seed sometime if not deadheaded so if you spot a stand of cannas around that haven't been cut back, give the fuzzy little seedpods a squeeze. If they're hard take 'em. Score and sprout and have blooms next summer. OR have some things for the plant swap. I got my orginal Black Knights from the entrance to a golf course and Wyoming from a local nursing home.

Stealth Snatchin'- Have you ever been wandering around a nursery or garden section of Home Depot/Walmart, etc.. and you get approached for assistance by another customer who thinks you work there? Well then, since you've probably still got your favorite pruners/scissors in a well worn holster from your belt, a few pruning cuts will be undetected as one of the 'employees' and is an appropriate reward for your contribution, don't you think? By the time I was finished with one lady at Stein's, I had to get a real employee to help her with two flatbed carts loaded with sod, ammendments, sand and pavers. Her jaw dropped and she proceeded to crosscheck everything I had told her with the employee but eventually left with everything. I had a few buddleia cuttings sticking out of my backpocket as I checked out and left.

8ftbed, WELCOME to Dave's Garden and the Seed Snatchin' thread. You'll fit right in here.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Hey Weezingreens - this thread is starting to take a bit to load for me... Think we ought to go to NUMBER 4? :-)

We may be settin' a record!! LOL

Just a suggestion. Not much of a problem for me at work but at home - don't even want to think about it!

Pocola, OK(Zone 7a)

No record yet, nc, Nightowls over in Jokes and Chat are in their 20'th something thread.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

AHHH!! Wow!

Oh my gosh, I shop at Steins on Green Bay Rd! Where are you 8ftbed? I live about 10 miles from Zion Illinois. You have some incredible and innovative game plans there for snatching! Me, I am a novice and only have one snatch to my credit. Perhaps you had better show me the ropes!

Taylor Creek, FL(Zone 10a)

Welcome 8ft bed, so glad Lauren found a seed stealin, dumpster divin buddy. It's like a small gift from ...oh well.
I'm studing those Bleeding Hearts, as You can see it's a prolific bloomer. I have a plan. have been out and have some i believe viable semi-herbaceous cuttings, they are loaded with seed pods. I also cliped some dried seed pods, but don't know which is viable.

deadheading is saving the flower from distintion...Spreading his wonderful flowers for us all to enjoy..

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

Equilibrium... Greenbay covers a lot of miles but I'd bet we're both referring to the one in Kenosha which is basically 10 min out my back door. How ya doing neighbor!!

Houseplant GoldMine -----> Go to the MALL!!!
Every Mall has plants all over the place and so "Conveniently" planted where any benches and chairs are placed. While you rest and watch the walkers, you may as well gather a few starts of different kinds of ivy and spider plant and maybe offshoots of some succulents/bomelaids, whatever! They whack most stuff back to stay within the limits of the planting area anyway. So - new plants for you orrrrrrrr, more cheap cuttings to start for the next plant swap.

(sugarweed... "stealin.." that just plain hurts ) ;-p

.is this private or anyone comment. ? sorry if it is...

Example: Yesterday I took the kids to a park to eat their fast food and while i was there i remembered their giant yellow columbine and sure enough i got there in time for fresh seeds enough to use and have a small trade of Or when you are driving down a back road somewhere and see a flower you can it dig up if it looks like it doesn't belong to somebody and take some home for yourself. I'm a plant addict so for me it depends on what the situation calls for sometimes I snatch and sometimes i propagate! ps this is not me i just giving explaynation for the two...

8ft, Snatchin, dern it, Seed Snatchin. (;>)

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

sugarweed, ya know I sailed out of Mayport for 2 years. Since I was living onboard the ship (geographical batchelor for my last tour) I didn't get my nails dirty. BUT always fishing, I soon found some uh, contacts, who appreciated a constant supply of fresh seafood which in turn got me off the ship into some local homes.
heh, heh.. Care to guess where my Jade, dwarf citrus, aloe vera and avocado plants originated? Problem is I probably could've had starts for the asking but felt I needed to keep my Snatchin skills up to speed.

Taylor Creek, FL(Zone 10a)

8ft, Well, give me a shopping route then. I've lived here almost 9 years, but was just a place to be between jobs. I'm trying to get retired, and love to garden, snatch, plant ugly free dirt, and have been known to do a clean out of invasives in the park my house faces.

Pocola, OK(Zone 7a)

- Magpye

Pocola, OK(Zone 7a)

Magpye, if you've never been off of I-40, then you've only seen the part of Oklahoma that is flat as a pancake. The Ouachita Mountains are south of me, it's just starting to get hilly where I live. It's actually not much, if any, different that where you live. http://www.talimenascenicdrive.com/

Castro Valley, CA(Zone 9a)

Ya, one of these days, the quiet one, LOL LOL

AH HA HA HA HA! Magpye's husband is here! Oh my gawd! Gotta give the man credit! I used my husband's user name here in hopes he could spot me if he ever did lurk but no way no how is he getting anywhere near me and my garden geek buddies.

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

This thread has that 'come an' get me' sorta flavor, so hijack away! Eventually we'll get back to a subject, but meanwhile, wander where ye may.

Tulsa, OK(Zone 7a)

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Welcome Hope!!!! This is in my humble opinion one of the best threads I've ever read on DG! In my short but fulfilling life here on DG..

Not only is it funny and good chattin' but also applicable to real life Snatchin'!

We're planning a road trip too as soon as one of us wins the lottery!! lol

Hadn't thought about the mall 8ft!! Great idea, esp since I hate the mall and hubby loves it. Now I will have something to look forward to!!!

Pocola, OK(Zone 7a)

Hope, I don't see a problem with snatchin' seeds from a cemetary. I don't know how others feel about it though.
