When my 1st DH and I got married, in 1967, no money, Peace Children, We went camping in the middle of what We tought was NOWHERE, used 2 navy blankets as a tent, it was early evening, drank some wine, cheese, etc, smoked you know what, in the early hours of morning, naked as jaybirds, We consomated our marriage again, and lo and behold, an entire family walked by, peeked in, when we had the guts to finally get dressed and move about, realized we were right next to the trail, oh my!!!!!
Yet More Seed Snatching
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
Hanna!! Great memories now I'm sure!!
You know it!!!
Oh, LadyAnne, I meant to wish you a Happy Happy Anniversary!!!!!!!! And your little Kitty is soooooooo cute, and looks quite ready for our expedition!!!!!!
Anne, when you offer to trim plants, use the 'compost' excuse. For some reason, these chain stores are scared to death you might profit in some way. I think they prefer to think they've gotten the good end of the deal.
I sure wish I had gone off 'to look for American' in the 60's. I got married at 19 back in 1965, and we lived close to our roots until the early 70's. My first husband had the wanderlust, but with two little children we weren't exactly taking a 60's freedom ride. We looked at land in Missouri, then later spent a year in Wisconsin, then later yet, we visited Idaho, then Alaska. I parked my keester in Seward, and I've been here ever since... some 30 years now.
Me too Weezingreens! I had these grand plans to travel or join the Peace Corps. Course I ended up getting a job, eventually getting married and having a baby! Oh well!
Yeah, I spent the 60's burpin' babies and Tupperware!
Okay all you xeroscape no waterin seed snatchers out there. I have a newsflash. The desert outside of El Paso, is teeming with vegetation due to unusual heavy rains this year. Litteraly billions of seed pods are waiting to be plucked. Cherish this might be a great trip for you. You could also stock up on pots in Juarez.
In my 20's I would raid the Desert of all sorts of goodies. I just can't leave now.
Got too much going up here right now. Can't make any kind of trip, but sounds like fun. Anybody want to help with a garage sale?
We ought to plan the real deal, how about it, bunch of us, at least for seed, plant trading, maybe a small seed raid just to keep us honest, teehee, teehee, nothing fancy, just our sloppy garden garb, have some fun, talk about old times, maybe in a campground somewhere, We're always up for some fun, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, let's do it!!!!!! I NEED a getaway, have fun kinda thing, those who can't drive, take the train, bus, those of us who have, bring gear, others share, Who's up for some good old fishin, picken, walken, just sitten, relaxation????????
Oh Hanna you have NO idea how much I would love to do that! Maybe next year when I have more vacation.....
Next year is good!!!!!! When stuff's a bloomin, weather is good, Sun's out!!!! C'mon you seed snatching, dumpster diving Divas????? Road trip, and good honest camadery extravaganza, who's the Artist, need to design Tees, the more I think the cheaper, I'm noootttt kiiiidiiiinng, lol, We'll have to wear them!!!!!!!!
I'm planning a trip with my little family to the SouthWest this Winter, We've really enjoyed it in the past! Ya'll cooking supper, sleepen, Hello out there??????
Orphan Annie here Callin a meetin of the minds--------We can't all have Senior moments at the same time now.
Ah ha ha ha ha!
"spent the 60's burpin' babies and Tupperware"
Gotta remember that one!
hanna, the rain has been falling all day, which, I guess, is an improvement over the snow that fell for two days straight before that. A tree in the neighbor's woods fell over and barely missed our greenhouse. Our snowplow broke it's reverse band yesterday sideways in the road, and our basement is flooding. A road trip sounds great!
Weez, gee that sounds like a tweaked replay of some of our summer Hurricane post from here.
Oh no Weez, I'm so sorry to hear all this bad news, but glad to hear no one got hurt, right? I cannot even imagine it!!!! I've never lived in the country or woods, must be beautifull but hard work, and I imagine a lot of money to fix the plow, and at a bad time no less, and your basement on top of it all, it's been drizzling all day here, that's about it, we only get light freeze in Winter, but not much. I've got to pick up my DH at the Station, just landed back from Denver, I'll be back, just think of good stuff, and all of us crazies out there dumster diving, be back soon! Thinking of you, *{;~)
I spent the '60's being a child? I don't know! I was 10 y/o in 1969. Fought my brother for the Chicago Sun-Times every day. Oh, there was another paper at that time, too...just forgot the name. I was anti-war, pro-Bobby Kennedy. Then he was assasinated, then I became a cynic at the age of 10 or so. LOL!
I was a punk rocker in '76, though. My saving grace.
I voted for Kerry, LOL LOL LOL, I'm still the Peace be with you all, do your thing kinda gal, just a little more growed up, well sorta, kinda
Good morning, viiieeetnaaam! What a riot. Maybe the stories are true about 'older folk'. We are resorting to our childhoods, or rather our formative years, now that children are moving out and we can be ourselves again? What's the line, I was there in the sixties, I just don't remember any of it. Yuppers.
Weez, the new nursery people are not exactly over friendly, one of the reasons we predict they won't last long, and I really don't think HD will let me trim up their plants, but who knows?Won't hurt to try. Love the burpin!
Cherish, I would come help but I would buy it all and then where would we be?!!
Thanks, Hanna, it's been a grand six years, thirty to go. We made a deal for thirty years and each year we make the same deal all over again. Even if we can't get the entire US Seed snatchers together, what about Yosemite in the spring? Ack, too many people. Ever get to Eagle Meadows? Heaven!! I'm with you, I can't imagine that volume snow, period, let alone dealing with it. Open your door after a storm to solid snow? Yikes!!
Hee hee - and I've been inviting more folks to this thread too!
Maybe we can get a rep from every state rep resnatchin' seeds from their particular state!!
I've already called Boozersnooze and were taking Ziplocks w labels already on them & felt tip markers. We can't mention our local route, but be assured we will leave no nursery unscathed. No botanical garden skipped. Will hit our zoo and all local plantings. Remember Oleander is poison. (;>)
No neighborhood's untouched!!! Just the seeds mam, just the seeds.
Will document with pictures, when possible.
Hi, everybody! Well, things sort themselves out, I guess. The tree is still lying across the greenhouse foundation, but the good news is that we haven't been able to add the extra rafters yet, so nothing was broken! The temps have dropped again, and the slush has turned hard, so the basement flooding has ceased. I can even see dry spots on the floor. Of course, the driveway is a frozen mess, but that's the price of living in Seward, I guess. No matter where you live, I guess there are days that just seem to bury you with problems. When we have one of those, I just decide to put on a life jacket and ride it out. It's bound to be better tomorrow, and it is.
Sugarweed, your road trip reminds me of a gardening friend here in Seward. He's a Senior Citizen, but pretty active. He loves poppies of all kinds, so when he's traveling, he stops anywhere he sees somniferum poppies and asks the owners if they are aware that they are illegal. He infers he won't tell anyone, but would like some seeds. When he tells us about it, his eyes just dance with glee!
" .. get a rep from every state rep resnatchin' seeds from their particular state .. "
That thar would be one kommited Kommittee!! hee
Mite be best to shoot fer fetchin' ourseffs .. a minimum of 2 school buses!!
.. LOL ..
- Magpye
We could peddle our seeds for gas money! Weezingreens HAS to make the packets though! She makes the best!
Weez, our posts bumped in passin' !! .. hee hee
Just glad to hear that things may be lookin' a bit better fer you guys. Hang in 'nar!
Weez, I can jes pitter your senior pal feller and the poppie seed collecting endeavors! I imagine
that it blesses your heart, to 'see' him tell his tales too ..
All of these lil diddy tales from past years are sooooome interesting. HEE Some are outright frightful .. hee
Especially the naykidity Kampin Kaper .. right by the trail. .. LOL ..
- Magpye
I totally missed your post too Weezingreens! I am so sorry you are having so much trouble!! Looks like it might be getting a tad better and you certainly have a great attitude!
Don't let all that frozen slush get near your seeds! LOL
Hee hee! I KNEW it!! You are the perfect creator of packets!!! Maybe the pic should be something like the profile of a person with a straw hat on holding her back with one hand and a diaper in the other! OH - and dogs and cats running around her feet - all with a dumpster in the background (surrounded by flowers of course!)
That's good! . . .mightn't better put a disclaimer of sorts on it. . .not for the quality of the seeds . . .but maybe bout not takin responsibility for the snatchers. . I mean. .collectors. . .LOL

LOL I love it!! Those are perfect Weeze! This bus is sounding more and more like the ones of hanna's youth. I guess I am going to have to buy some Birkenstocks and long flowing skirts. I love the flowing skirts, but managed to pass over the Birkenstocks fad even when all my friends were wearing them. Of course this was the second fad - not the one in the 60's & 70's because was not even born then. My mom seems to think I am an old soul though, so you never know. LOL
Hey - this is off topic 'scuse me Weezingreens but...
Have any of you checked out the Watchdog lately? There is a company on their with a negative that caught my eye - ends with 'quest'. Anyway - they had so many negs they started posing as DG'rs and posted some postitive comments themselves!! I read all the way through the post and not only that the rep was a real smart alec with responding to the compliants. They really KILLED themselves though by trying to post their own positives though - who would ever trust them now?
Anyway, just thought it was interesting and I just couldn't believe I read it!
Sorry Weezingreens....
Now back to our regularly programed station...
Snatchin!
Love the packets, and appreciate heads-up.
Weez .. jes an ideal packet design, indeed ! ! !
.. But, yep, a 'hold harmless' disclaimer in plain view! .. LOL ..
However, ah thank it mite be best to keep the graphic as utterly simple as possible! (ya git my drift?)
Reckon (we) YOU .. weez .. can maybe concoct some way, as to make 'em so's they'll give up no fangerprints of any sort ?? Remember, we gotta be able to cover our tracks, rather packs, or, is it our 'backs'?!? (or all of the above!)
Ahh . . . them cheapo boxes of hospital rubber gloves'll do the trick! Haint we all got at least one (or two + boxes) of them .. stored somewhere in a cabinet .. that we've 'borrowed' .. either, from our birthin' yunkin years, and/or tending to others .. or any of them other thousand hospital and docter visits?? Or, we can jes add that to our list of 'snatcherees' we gonna need!
C'mon .. we can all come clean here .. hee
.. LOL ..

Pop on keyboard...
"tentative seed packet design... needs work... "
No honey, it'a practically perfect!
Hey Magpye! I work for a foodservice company! I can get us gloves, etc etc
Course maybe not for long if I don't stay off this website!!!!!!!!!!!!! My work is behind... :-(
NC, that is priceless about Watchdog! You know you are a formidable presence when spies try to infiltrate into your system! If you find it again, post a link! I'd love to see it!
Well, fellow snatchers, let me work on this seed packet thing. I think we definitely need a logo, but it should be something fairly simple that represents what we are doing. Any ideas?
Maybe a seed with a conversation bubble saying "I am free!" or a plant saying "Thank you for helping my babies grow". LOL That would be kinda hard to draw wouldn't it.
nc .. Welllll, thar ye go!!
... LOL ...
Just stock up on 'em afore ya fetch that pink slipper! .. LOL ..
Nahh, gracious NO .. don't EVEN risk that happenin' !! .. Jobs, let alone 'good' jobs are coming harder to find these days. Besides, it'd take some o'your fun out of it all .. 'sneakin' on DG, at work won't it ?! LOL
Need to fetch yaseff one of them particular 'pills' .. that you, and was it, 'Sequee' .. talkin' bout on another thread here close by .. just in the last couply days or so - about the one of you, having to give your pups a particular medicine/pill .. I think it was - ? - ... hee hee
Ahh, gracious me .. I'll have to go find that 'ticular thread now .. and post it here .. afore I risk gettin' myself in a pickle-jam, and it be jes totally uncalled fer! hee hee
- Magpye
Sweez .. actually them lil conservation (hah, play on words there, HEE) .. 'conversation bubbles' are quite simple lil diddies .. if'n ya got a lil photo program .. to fetch 'em to your pitter!
Weez, you've surely got 'em on your pooter .. ? .. Should a body opt to do that.
