I wonder why the mama cat abandoned them? Maybe her nipples are sore and she cannot nurse them.
Sometimes they leave them if the kittens are sick and have a fever, but that does not sound like the reason since they are healthy for you to feed.
Of course, maybe she gave them to you for a present! LOL
Are you going to keep them all? I do not know what I would do without petshops to purchase things for my pets. It would probably be like the old days when I was growing up. People had pets, but it is much easier now to get them the proper care and food.
We used to feed our pets table leftovers and they never went to the vet for any reason. Now I spend more money on pet food and pet care than I do for the humans in my family.
Good luck as a cat mama! LOL

Gumlla, those precious kitties look great! I think you are doing a wonderful job (considering you are an unexperienced mother LOL). Please keep us posted.

You make a great Mom gumlla. I am very proud of you for all the effort you put in to save these babies.
You are a wonderful person and friend.

The babies look like they are well fed and contented with their new "mama" It is fun watching them learn to explore and play as they get older.

Gumlla, you are such a wonderful person! I always enjoy your posts, but this one is extra special! What a wonderful thing you have done - and your babies are beautiful! You have done a great job! (I'm thinking you will be having 3 pets now?)

My kittins will be 2 weeks old tomorrow morning! Their mama is taking very good care of them, thank heavens! At first she didn't like one of them very much - she kept pushing him away and when she moved the babies, she only took 3 of them with her. I finally had to clean the little fella and just kept bringing him to the momcat until he finally got a stronghold on a nipple! Then I knew everything would be ok!

Lewisville, TX(Zone 8a)

Now the kittens are looking much better. Don't give up on Mom cat yet. She still need to eat, whether she feeds her babies or not. I took a "poll" with my four Vet friends, and they all said that goat milk would be far better that cow's milk...just not enough of the right nutrition in cow's milk. You bet, they will come to think of you as the "mother cat".....that when it comes so hard to part with them. I am enclosing another picture of my favorite Mom cat (so far) and her litter. I seem to drift towrd black and white kittens. This Mom cat is now named "kiwi" and has a wonderful home. Keep us up to date

What a good job you have done with these poor babies!! Better check your front gate and make sure she didn't leave a sign there for other mom cats to drop off their litters for you to take care of!! They all look so well fed and clean, it makes me happy to know that there are other people who are willing to take care of helpless creatures. Make sure they all get spayed or neutered when they go to new homes or if you keep them.

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

Great job! They are gorgeous!

One bad news, mama cat found dead, I think she was sick, why she left her kitties. Yesterday my neighbours told me, she saw the dead cat across the road. I went there to see, what was the problem with her but before my arriving, some one dumped dead body.

Santiago, Chile(Zone 9b)

Yesterday I had the chance to talk to my friend Pipe (Veterinarian) about this case and he said that the most likely cause why the cat abandoned the kitten was that she was seriously ill and probably did not produce any milk. Some cat-mothers even kill their babies in such case so that they do not have to starve. However your kitten's mother came back and saw that you were taking care of her babies. I like to think that she chose your house knowing she would find help for her babies from you and that when she saw how good you were doing with the kitties she was able to die in peace. Cats are wonderful mothers! Gumllas are wonderful substitute mothers!!!

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

WOW! You have done an awesome job! I don't know for sure, but I doubt that mom cat will be back to feed them - she has probably dried up. But it looks like you have done well, and that it will soon be time to teach them to drink from a dish (ah, weaning time soon). You are a wonderful parent! Are you going to keep any?

At last you announced me a " wonderful substitute mother". thank you . Today one baby fallen from the roof, as I am living in 1st floor and my kitties are also with my on 1st floor, Thanks God, kitty is safe no injury, all the kitties are sleeping in my lap. These are looking very beautiful during sleeping.

Poor mama kitty. That is sad. She knew just where to take her babies that they would get the greatest care.
You have such a sweet spirit and a gentle heart and she knew it. It takes a special person to have the patience to hand raise baby kittys or any baby animal.

Their stomachs get so full of milk they look like they will explode. They are so cute. You have done a great job.

I will say thank you from the mama kitty and the baby kittys.
And from me.

You need to post some of your pictures in e-magination. I know Melvatoo, Judithl, and Ponditis would love to see your kittys.
Blessings,
Sandy

Thank you, I will post more pictures there, as I am very busy with the kitties and other jobs, As I will have time will write more in e-magination.
When I sarted with kitties I was completely new, you all members taught me how to care pets. In this thread I learnt a lot. Thnk you very much every one.

Denton, TX(Zone 7a)

Gumilla,
Sandy told me about your kittens, so I just had to come and look...you are a great kittie Mommy, they all look wonderful. I know it is a lot of work..you must have a good heart, I congratulate you!

Mesilla Park, NM

Oh gumlla,
This is so great. How wonderful.. I am so happy to see just how far you have brought these babies. I haven't been able to post much, have to be at the hospital with my dad, he got very sick last week and I just have not had a chance to be on here.

You are a great Daddy and Mommy... you take care and will e-mail you when I can. My best regards to you and your family.. Antoinette

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

That is so wonderful good news about the kittens are doing so well so glad you did doing good job to take good care of them all. They are all so cute!

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

Melva you cracked me up there for a minute...when you said "They all look wonderful" - I thought you were going to say "...they all look just like you!" Whew!

It's sad that the Mom cat died, but she certainly did the right thing by her babies. First she stayed alive to birth them, then she brought them to an excellent care-giver. Can't wait to see moe photos! (Hint, hint!)

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

I just saw this thread, Kaleem. You've done such a great job with these babies! I'm sorry to read their mother died, but as others have said, she must have trusted you would care for them.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

Gumlla Is there anywhere around your home to have them spayed or neutered when they are old enough? Is it very expensive?
Maybe I could send you a little money when the time comes. I figure by the way you are talking about your babies that you will keep them.
What does your wife think of the kittys?
Keep up the good work.
Blessings to you and your family (kittys included)
Sandy

Thanks every body

Once a week I will go to other city which is 40 minutes away, there I will access DG. and will post new pictures of my kitties and they are very naughty.

San Jose, CA(Zone 9b)

Kaleem,

thank you for sharing your wonderful little herd of kitties. They are beautiful. This is a very special thing you have done and I know from experience it is not easy. I tried to save a little kitten just a few days old left behind by it's mother. I had access to the special milk and tiny bottles and stayed awake to feed it every two hours or so. What I didn't have was the advise of so many good people and my kitten did not survive. Your story warms my heart ~ thank you for sharing.

I am glad you are going home. I hope your journey is safe.
