I have been "evicted"... not that there's anything amiss. My cousins (who own this house) have signd an agreement with a Time-Share sort of program for this house, which is simply a lake vacation house for them, and have asked me to vacate by the end of October.
I'm looking for a place to stay/rent, long-term, and hopefully close to or approximating this lovely mountain area.
I could be a live-in gardener if you have a separate space for living quarters... plus I have an aging cat... and LOTS of stuff.
I'm right handy, and a good cook.
Somewhat serious posting
That's too bad Darius. I wish you the best of luck finding something soon. Too bad you are so far away and up in the mountains. I know you like it there though. :)
Oh Man, Darius. That seems rotten to me but Im glad they gave you a decent amount of time to find a new "home". Wish I could help. (((((Darius)))))
Darius, I'm so sorry to hear that you have to move before you found a place in the area to buy. Should you decide to expand your radius please let me know because I have friends from the power plant at Lake Anna. Most live in Louisa County, but maybe they will know of something or they can keep their eyes open for a place that will fit your needs. Adam and I would also love to have you find a place and move to our neck of the woods - would paper mache mountains persuade you??? If there's anything we can do to help just let us know. Carol
Ahhh! I am so sorry Darius. I hope you find something rapidly. I know that you have so many talents and would be a definite asset for anyone if you lived on the place. I wish you luck in finding something near the mountains you love.
Darius...what about expanding a wee bit more? We have mountains all around us...6500 to 10,000 ft high...trees are at a preium though. But my yard (and kitchen) could sure use your help. JO
Awww, C'mon, doesn't ANYONE want to adopt me? I cook a mean pasta alfredo, complete with homemade pasta!
Carol, As much as I love you and Adam... it's too flat, and papier maché just wouldn't cut it. Where's Louisa County and Lake Anna?
Jo... mountains without all the green trees just wouldn't seem the same.
Hugs everyone, and thanks for some encouragement. It's just a Low Spot in my life right now.
How about emailing the DG members in NC, or other areas you might be interested in. Maybe they know about something that fits for you. Horseshoe, Sparks (even though they're moving), etc.
We'd adopt ya, but we're in Ohio! :D
Darius.....HERE HERE HERE COME HERE TO BODRUM....COME ON GIRL!!!! YOU CAN DO IT, we have mountains, we have the sea, we have history, ve have ancient sites....
come come come - my son is leaving at the end of august, we'll have an empty room.......
Lots of green trees and stuff, but no mountains in FL. How about GA? Mountains in the northern part of the state, probably not as pretty or as tall as NC, but wooded. Our family owns some land in middle GA. Our DD owns some land around Grand Coulee dam in WA.
Darius I'd adopt you in a second! MD isn't all that far from NC ;) No separate living quarters but you could use the entire second floor (all 2 rooms of it, LOL) Another cat won't make much of a difference here :) she'd have plenty of company with my 3.
Hugs
Darius, Louisa County is located between Richmond and Charlottesville. The northeastern part of the county where Lake Anna is located is flat, but if you travel west through the county via I-64 the elevation increases. If you continue driving west of Charlottesville about 20 miles to Waynesboro - I don't know off hand what county Waynesboro is located in - the elevation is higher. You can also enter the Blue Ridge Parkway in Waynesboro if that gives you an idea. How high do you want the mountains to be?
Oh Darius, I hate to hear this but you know you are welcome to Ms.
Darius, I'd love to have you here, but I'm sorry to say I've no room..:( I have kids and grandkids that have moved back home. If by chance, they find their own place in the next week or so, I'll let you know :) I have a cat as well, although Ralph doesn't like cats...he does like my Cleo.
You know you will find a nice place......homemade pasta......I might just kick the kids out...
Good luck, let me know if there is anything else I can do. BTW, how much of that pectin did you want, you never did answer me. :)
Oops, I need a place to send it to also...Email me, okay? Kathy
Carol, we are only around 2500 feet here although there are 2 mountains to cross between here and Asheville that are close to 4,000 feet. I have thought about the SW Virginia area.
Judith, I'm just 15 miles from the state line in the north Georgia mountains but because this area is 2 hours or so from Atlanta, it's their weekend lake/mountain playground making everything SO expensive around here.
Pebble... that's SO tempting! It cost $4000 just to move my stuff 100 miles. Can't imagine the cost to Bodrum LOL.
{{{{{Ruth & Jody}}}}} Thanks!
This month is a Blue Moon month, and my misfortune only happens in a blue moon, LOL! I AM encouraged that something will turn up.
Darius the western part is Michigan has some hills... Could pretend they are foothills. No shortage of trees or water. Our winter lasts about 3 months longer then yours so you have to grow everything really fast or inside. But seriously. Good luck on your house hunt. Remember sometimes what looks like an end is really just the beginning of something really great.
Thanks, old_rose. I keep trying to remember that!
I would love to have you here but city life just isn't any fun even if I have tried to surround my yard with plants. I would love living in the hills or mountains but guess I will just have to take my vacations there. Good luck in your search, Darius. I will pray that you find your perfect place soon.
Darius, I am at sea level, no trees on the mountains but magnificent boulders. Fires took the trees there were. I have a great zone though. Good luck. hope you find something perfect.
Heck, go hang out with pebble for 6 months or so-what an experience! What would you miss besides winter!
Darius, the area around Lavonia, Ga is a great place to live!
I lived on Lake Hartwell there for 30 years before my late husband died in 2000. I had never lived out of the state of Ga when I remarried in 2002 & moved here to South Fl. I really miss the lake & the mtns.
My youngest daughter is an investigator with the Franklin Co sheriff's office there. The area is low in crime and less exspensive than others. sound like I'm homesick? Here's a link to some area realty. hope all works out for you. Melba
www.hartwelllake.net
Melba, WHY did you move? Maybe HE should have moved to you?
Sounds lovely. Thanks for the link.... just don't think I want to move back to Georgia.
Darius, sorry to hear of your plight. I'd like to offer the Pacific Northwest as an alternative location. We are at Sea Level, but a few miles West are the Olympic mountains and a few miles East are the fabulous Cascade mountains. It has been said we have a lot of rain, but that's only a problem if you tend to rust rather than tan. Hope something good shows up for you soon.
It's a long story darius LOL! I had no intentions of ever remarrying. You know what they say.... Happens!
We have pretty green mountains here! And it's drier here, than on the West side of the state. But it's pretty cold in the winter time. So sorry to hear you have to find a new place. Wish I could adopt you but you'd end up on the couch!
So sorry Darius. I really hope you find something in WNC, there is NO place like it (Sorry folks, no slight intended to your home places, but I was born and raised in those mountains) I have friends leaving Miami and building on 60 acres in Roanoke VA. They seem to think it's Paradise! I love the lay of the land around Black Mountain, Weaverville and Mars Hill. If I ever got to move back, *sigh*, I think that's where I would look.
Pati
BTW, according to the out-of-state real estate ads in the Florida papers, everything, including the town, is for sale in Murphy for a dollar down and a dollar a month!!! LOL
Not true about Murphy, which is just 30 miles away! Well, some could br true because within 5-10 miles NW of Murphy it becomes wild and steep and almost ubnaccessable. (Relate to up around the NC/TN line way above Mars Hll on the back roadsbut even more remote.) Plus, living in Murphy is like living in the armpit of NC.
This typifies what I think about Murphy: “Support bacteria. They're the only culture some people have.”
LOL. Maybe that's why all the ads advise you to bring mountain climbing gear! Have you considered Spring Creek in Madison County? Haven't been there in ages, but my late husband's family came from there. I remember the valley being beautiful and sparsely settled. They probably have a Wal-Mart by now!
Pati
Edited for :P.S. I can even visualize a spot for the awesome house you designed!

Pati, I don't know that Madison County is very affordable now... Asheville has grown out to the outlaying areas. Probably more affordable than around here unless I want Murphy!
I really am considering a move back to Asheville but cost is a BIG factor.
Darius, I hope you find a place soon.
Thanks, elsie...me, too. I just need to "think outside the box". (Sounds funny to say that since everything I own is in boxes, LOL.)
Yeah, but that makes sense cause you need somewhere to store those boxes.
Hey Darius, things just have a way of working out....wish I could help but I don't know anyone in that area. Florida is nice and hot and buggy and and and...you know. How about North Georgia?
Well, gee, Darius, if mountains is all you want... Mine are higher than anyone elses, they are beautiful and green, (part of the time, when they aren't white) and have lots of lovely trees. And your spiral house would work fine on one of the vertical lots that are the only affordable mountain property left.
My grandmother homesteaded a quarter-section in CO with 2 sisters when she was about 20, and I have lots of photos... and a cousin living in Westminster.
But, can you order grits with breakfast?
LOL Darius! I have an idea...Put your things in storage and travel. A month or so here and there, just think of all you'd see and learn! Then I could probably (finally) persuade you to come to Florida for a visit during winter. (((Donut)))
Stacey, I have actually thought of doing just that! It has been nearly 50 years since I travelled the country in a leisurely manner, seeing it all from a rumble seat. Three adults in the coupé seat (a married couple and my mother) and 2 kids in the rumble seat. We pulled a 40' travel trailer (just after WWII) taking about 6 months to go up and down and all across the whole country, ending in San Francisco when I turned 7.
I'm trying to convince my old and cranky cat that she'd be purrfectly okay in the back of the truck where I have built in a bed above the wheel wells. So far, she's not buying it, LOL.
I promise I will come and visit with you this winter!

Darius! You HAVE to visit me and the momster too! I have a room for you and you know what? I will let you USE my kitchen too!
LOL, Weeds! ... and Thanks, maybe I WILL. Give Miss Virginia a hug from me, okay?
Weeds, I can attest that Darius is one heck of a good cook.
On a more serious note, I really hope that things work out for you, Darius. But I have to believe that this situation will lead you to where you are supposed to be.
