"beautiful delicate MG's" continued again

Albany (again), NY(Zone 5b)

a thread I enjoy visiting every few days....Keep up the good work - I hope to play next year...

Love,
Sandra

Gourd you won't have much longer and then you will have lots to share!!!! I am excited for you just looking at all those pots!!!! What a wonderful show you will have when those start blooming!

Mesilla Park, NM

aknapp, I definitely will share.. let's keep on hoping they keep growing and the growing season here is long, so there's some hope.. went outside and counted 51 pots with MGs in them. plus a few other vines in yet more pots (my hubby looks at me like if I am nuts), which, I probably am. If there is anyway that I can over winter them in my sewing room, I will so that we can all get some seeds.

Albany (again), NY(Zone 5b)

Gourd - definitely doable to keep plants alive indoors... not a bad way to be crazy :)

New York, NY(Zone 7a)

If you have a good sunny window in a room that isn't super-cold, and you can keep the spider mites at bay, ordinary morning glories do well. I started "Early Call" from seed indoors in the fall and got nice flowering until the aforementioned spider mites took over. I'll be very interested to hear whether these exotic Japanese morning glories perform well.

Dundee, OH(Zone 5b)

Sandra!!! glad to see you poking in and keeping an eye out for us, did you get to grow any glories over there? Ours from the co-op were slow starters but doing rather well now. We miss you!!!!

gourd I know what you mean about those looks. Yesterday I insisted that one of my sons look at my flush of brugs, and he obligingly did so, but I got that same look!!!!

I don't understand it at all!!!!! How can they not appreciate any of the finer things in life!!!

Mesilla Park, NM

aknapp, I can see it now, all of us,, running around with digital cameras and taking photos of the plants, not the family.. that happens quite a bit around here. My son and daughter don't get away with it either, I e-mail them pictures of the plants. Gotta love these computers.

Sandra, thank you for the co-ops, most of my JPs are from one or another of your co-ops, if I can return even one favor, I will. I did not make it in time for the co-ops, but, Brugie shared with me and Pudgymudpies sent me some, so I can hardly wait till they start the blooming. The people here at Dave's are wonderful and caring.

Dawnsharon2001, will do, have a perfect room to put them in, just worried that they may cross in there. Right now, I can move the container as soon as one starts to bloom. Hopefully they will come true.

Hi All
I had quite the surprise when I went out this morning. And have to tell you how I managed this first, and then you will know I am not too tightly wrapped.

After I had such a disaster with moving things out of the house too soon this spring, I started pitching (and I do mean pitching) things into a large pile to take care. Two weeks later after doing nothing to this pile, I found at least 10 different plants that were growing. I was able to identify a few but others just ended up in a joint pot.
I now have 2 other blooms in the same pot where the chocolate silk is. and I will post those first.

This is the other one that is in the same pot with the chocolate silk and the one above.

This one and the next two are all in one pot, I think the light blues are both the same flower but they sure are pretty, does anyone know what they might be??????

aknapp, what in the world is that light blue one? It is gorgeous.

Stockton, CA(Zone 9a)

Very pretty Alice! If these were the throwaways I can hardly wait to see the keepers. ;~)

Happy birthday Minigrannie, hopw you have a wonderful day.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

Thank you so much, PudgyMudpies.

I'm so bummed. My Shirayuki mg had its second bloom today, and I didn't even know it until just a little while ago. Our sprinklers came on early this morning and obviously ruined the fragile bloom. Darn it.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

Duh! I didn't read your post carefully enough, aknapp. I asked you what the light blue mg was, and you were asking if anyone knew what it was as well. LOL I hope someone here knows, because I want to try to find some of the seeds to purchase. I just love it.

Dundee, OH(Zone 5b)

Alice I think the first pic is of Kaori from the co-op, second is the mt. fuji blue, and lastly, I believe that one that appears light blue is actually the Izumi also from the co-op. now dont' hold me to those for certain, hard to tell with some of the leaves not showing, but those are my guesses, anyone else out there growing these variety I mentioned? If so, please share so Alice can ID them and Thanks!!

Albany (again), NY(Zone 5b)

Laurrie - good to see you, too! :))

I miss being here....very rarely get a chance to post anymore, but I did get broadband, so I just need to get my home computer set up. Still using the work laptop now.

No - after the whole co-op and all of the trading, I never grew a single seed. :( I'm enjoying them through these photos.

Next year - I'll have the biggest, baddest collection of Japanese Morning Glories in Ireland...hehehehe

Gourd - yep, that's the charm of this place. So many generous people. I'm enjoying people's excitement and photos (almost) as much as if they were my own.

aknap - not sure if those are Izumi - here's a pretty clear photo of what they should look like: http://davesgarden.com/t/397395/. This photo is pretty true to color....

Needville, TX(Zone 9a)

Alice, what a hoot! Now you know what ya gotta do to get them to bloom for ya :P Yep, I concur with the ID's.....

Dang Gourd, your killing me with all those mg's!!!! Can't wait to see your bloomers!

Hey there Sandra!!!!

Hey, Hey Sylvia!!!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! Too bad about that bloom tho....is it setting seed yet?

Mesilla Park, NM

Alice, they are sure good looking glories.. Well, here is the Mt. Fuji bud that opened this morning. Along with another one that grew there as a volunteer in the same pot. These were seeds from Park.

Mesilla Park, NM

Here it is with what I think is Blue Star, not too sure, the color is very faint. This is the only pot that there are two different kinds..

Thumbnail by Gourd
Mesilla Park, NM

I hope I did this right, used painter's tape to keep Mt. Fuji closed so it won't cross..

Please tell me how to, or what you all are using to tag each pod. Gosh, I don't even think I enjoyed looking at it long enough this morning because I panicked., but, there are several buds ready for tomorrow...

edited: P.S.

Forgot to mention that I have three golden retrievers and each one of them checks out each pot right after I do.. I have to keep my eye on them. Sure am glad they don't bother them, they just check to see what I did to them.

Mesilla Park, NM

Oh moonlightiing, that is beatuful. Which one is that? and thanks for the info on the masking tape, gonna go get it ready.

Needville, TX(Zone 9a)

Gourd, you can use just about anything to tie the bloom off - some do it different. I use the masking tape to just tag them. The mg I have above is a white blue silk......

**edited cause I can't spel.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

Moonlighting, I've never heard of a white Blue Silk. It looks like my Shirayuki.

Cassopolis, MI(Zone 5a)

Moonlighting its beautiful whatever it is, do I see just a hint of light blue around the edges?

Needville, TX(Zone 9a)

Alice, your eyes are not deceiving you, there was just a tiny hint of blue on the edge....it is a white flower that bloomed on my Blue Silk vine thus I named it a white Blue Silk...LOL just a little creativity on my part :oP

Sylvia, that "Shirayuki" is on my mg want list....hint! hint!

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

Alice, Ohio Breezy is correct except the last one. I know what that one is but will have to go look it up. Will get back to you later with the name.

Monterey,

In Ca you should not have to bring the MG's in; they go to seed and new ones come up after the first of the year. I even had Grandpa Otts volunteer here in Iowa Zone 4B.

Mableton, GA(Zone 7b)

I think Grandpa Ott's would volunteer in Antarctica. lol Talk about one tenacious reseeder!

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

Moonlighting, you are definitely on the list if I get any seeds. It has only had 2 blooms so far, and when I looked this morning there was no sign of a seedpod. If it makes more than 5 seeds, I will certainly send you some.

Needville, TX(Zone 9a)

I guess your little vine is just one of the slow pokes Sylvia. My Yosooi is like that.

Mesilla Park, NM

Was waiting for this to open a bit more, but will try for more pictures tomorrow, lots of buds on this one. From Brugie, label said "Dark Pink (very Large)", anyone know what it is? Has the green JP MG leaves. It looks like a fuschia color in person.

Here is today's Kniola in a pot...

One more of the Mt. Fuji, they have bloomed for the past three days. The scarey thing is, most of the containers now are starting to bud, very tiny buds, but it looks hopeful..

This is an unknown pink one that reseeded in the cactus garden. (excuse the weeds/crab grass)
