"beautiful delicate MG's" continued again

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

I checked four of my Jap. MG that i hadn't looked at in a few days, because it has been so terribly hot and I don't walk around the whole garden every day, just go out to irrigate. Anyway since I had last looked at them one had a vine about 3 feet long so at least that one is beginning to look like a MG. Donna

Stockton, CA(Zone 9a)

what a mess THAT would have been, letting loose while spinning on the fan! Smart mom you! Yeah, sounds like you really fixed his wagon. ;~)

Glad you got back in!

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

I have several things that have bloomed that are pretty but have more that will be opeing in the next few weeks so I will wait and post photos then.....
So many of these Japanese MG's are really turning out to be disapointing and there are some I don't think I will grow again.....

:o)

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

Let us know which ones didn't turn out so well, Dee. I have so many different ones that I didn't plant this year, that if they are not the best, I won't bother next year either.

Citrus Heights, CA(Zone 9b)

I have a pic of the seed pack from Wal Mart. Look up 2 before my flower pic, that's the pack.

Needville, TX(Zone 9a)

monterey, what you have is a mystery...lol.

Needville, TX(Zone 9a)

I think what you have is blue star and heavenly blue.....

Citrus Heights, CA(Zone 9b)

What I did with it (The TOWER) is I put it on my deck. It is so big that I just let the vines hang down it's BIG! It is over 9 ft. tall!

I have gone back through all 3 threads of your beautiful delicate MGs, all I can say is WOW to everyone! Just outstanding!

Here is one that bloomed this AM, I have no clue who it is, but I thought she was sure nice. The weather here has been just too odd for words, and just NOW are they starting to climb the trellis'.

Thanks Moonlighting! They sure are delicate arent they? Just beautiful!!

To make these, we put the fat ends of tomato cages together and cable strapped them. They have grown
7 feet and 6 feet. There is about 1 or 2 feet more growing
that had nothing else to climb on.

in this pic if you look in the left corner you will see the tomato cages that my J. MG's are growing; slow to climb.
Instead they are wanting to grow lateral so I threw another fence around them.

Did you see my tower it's 9 up. This is the top 8 and 9 ft. It is supposed to be Flying saucers from wal mart. I think it is a combo of heavenly blue and something else. I was going to do the tomato cages route too.

This is a pic of the two different flowers that were supposed to be flying saucers, any clues as to what they are?

One month ago it was up to the first rung on the tomato cage. It has doubled in length and puts on 2-3 flowers per day.

Monterey,
Sure is pretty but I don't know the blue MGs that well.

My tower is Atkatsuki no beni (.pink with white throat) It was a prolific bloomer last year.

The ones that are vaiegated and growing slowly are Heian Izumi (solid lavender crinkle ~ big face ~ fills more than my palm) and Heian Kaori (White w/ pink throat ~ also big face)

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

This was the first to produce in CA as well as Iowa. Someone told me they are blue and pink star.

In Ca, the vine is already dead and has gone to seed.

Monterey, I answered what I thought they were (15 up) but thats JMHO...lol.

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

Look at how much seed I collected from it! The seeds are sorta white.

Monterey, your tower is filling up! I love your pictures of Blue Dawn.....

MollyMc,

Thank-you.

She's my grand dog! Spoiled little critter but we all love her.

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

These are all just sooo pretty, But temps here are high and not much is blooming on my end so I am glad to see all of yall posting your flowers. I have some new vines coming in but it will be awhile before they are ready if the heat dosen't kill them in the mean time. Keep your fingers crossed for me that it will let up pretty soon. I only have about another 6weeks of this heat and we should get a break in the weathe then the MG's will bloom like wild fire again......

I have my Bush MG blooming really well these days but alot of my vines are begining to die back because it is so hot. I am getting alot of seeds so thats what is important and I will be able to pass along quite afew.....My Umi "sea" is doin really well and seeding really well to. I think I will have to get Moon to help me get the seeds of this one though it is in my Cypress Garden Brug and hangin over the river bank. That ought to be intresting. But it is one that is worth having and one of my best producer of the Japanes this year. I will plant this one again next year. One day this past week I counted a little over 50 blooms on it but the way they were facing I couldn't get a picture of them. I hope to have them in a better location next year and not have them moved by the wildlife.....LOL....

Only had two blooms of Umi in CA. Think it was one that didn't get enough water. Alyssum had a beautiful display of Umi last year.

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7a)

Molly is a real cutie, and I have certainly enjoyed all the MG photos.

This had been an odd year here for MG's. Grandpa Otts is the only one with healthy foliage and blooms. Heavenly Blue is putting out a spactacular display of foliage - zero blooms. Blue Picotee is just now putting out a few blooms and has scrappy looking foliage. Variegated Dwarf Picotee has tons of blooms but the foliage is not nearly as lush as last year. Hopefully, MG's will have a better year next summer for me.

Dundee, OH(Zone 5b)

My glories were seemingly slow to start but they have really taken off this past couple of weeks. Here is a pretty one....Sunrise Serenade, from Seedsavers Exchange.

Wow Laurrie that one is just beauuutful.....I just gotta have one for next year. How well does it hold up to heat and rain? Is it to soon to tell.......let us know soon as you do....
I really like it, course I love all the frilly ones....
:o)
Dee

Dundee, OH(Zone 5b)

Dee, this one seems to thrive on the heat, never wilting like some of the other ones, not too shabby with the rain, now a downpour is another story LOL, it is just nearly my favorite so far.........well then there is Hatsu Arashi, and Hattie Bell, Oh wait, I guess I can't play favorites even yet, still more to bloom!!!

It really has been a showstopper for weeks now, just continues to thrive and show off, seems to be setting seed already as well.

I finally got another one worth sharing this is a chocolate silk!
I hope that Hope43 sees this! She was kind enough to send me the seed for this beauty!

Oh guys, those are beautiful.. finally getting some buds here on Hattie Bell and a Dark Pink (very large) seeds from Brugie, and on the Mt Fuji, which will probably be opening in a week or more. I have a feeling that within the next couple of weeks things will be hopping around here with the MGs.

Mesilla Park, NM

Here are some of the over 40 varieties that are growing, but no flowers yet.. hopefully SOON.. That top row is all of Brugie's seeds that she shared with me in June and were sowed June 19th.

The next row were sown July 8th...bottom row, which are Heavenly Blue, more Mt. Fuji, Cameo Elegance, Minibar Rose, Grandpa Otts, Crimson Rambler, Moonvine Lavender Yuago, Heian nO Kagayaki, Ipomoea Denim Blue, Mini Sky Blue, and Morning Glory Bush (only the minibar and Mini sky have not germinated)
