Is that one as pink as it looks Arlene????

Cardinal climber, so sweet!

Aknapp, yes it is! I have worked all morning collecting seeds and the ones that are blooming each have a label with a number on it hooked just below where the seed pod will be.

Then after i am gone, my daughter will just look for the labels and there should be a seed pod next to it. Put them in individual coin envelopes along with the label. I have taken a picture of each one to coincide with the number.

This should be interesting to see if the seeds produce something similar.

They are doing so well, we are looking for another spot to put up a trellis to start some more.

This is so fun.

Now I am off to the nursery for more plants for by the pool. Made a haul at Home Depot this am. Now I will hit Armstrong ~ they supposedly have the very best tropical hibiscus.

When I get them all planted, will take some pics to share with you of the finished product.

regards, my friends,
a

aIt was nice to see your MG pictures. I was toolate to get in on th e Co-OP but Delisa shared seed with me but I have been very disappointed in their performance. Most just sit there don't climb and only have a very delicate bloom that never are even completely round. The only MGs that i have that are looking good are from old seed, just a mix and Grandpa Otts that i have growing up the vinyl trellis. Donna

Here's a Japaneese Morning Glory. Sorry I don't know the name. A beauty for sure. I have them in hanging baskets next to stone siding and I really like the contrast.

GRC, your right, a lovely contrast & a lovely flower. I like the hanging basket idea.

Donna,
I know what you mean. I find the Jap. MGs to be very late bloomers for me. Last year they were the same so I do not attribute it to weather. They are just slower growers & late bloomers. Mine never reach any size to speak of. Just in the last week have mine finally started to bush out. For months they just stay string & puny, then BOOM! They start filling out at about the same time they start setting buds. Can't say that is true for everyone, but that is my experience.
Donna (too ;~)

Mesilla Park, NM

PudgyMudpies, I am so happy to hear this. Mine are doing exactly what you say they do for you.. some are really bushing out (no buds yet), hoping for a good show towards the late summer or fall.

Good photos everyone.. Thanks.. Antoinette

Gourd, when did you plant them? Mine were planted here in Southern California (Orange) around Jan. For California, that is when you need to plant them.

In Iowa we can't get them in the ground until the end of May; that is why we try to start them indoors. There our growing season is almost not long enough to get mature seed.

I agree that the japanese MG are slower. When I get back to Iowa I will share pictures of mine. I have one J MG that has climbed over 7 feet high on two tomato cages ( the fat ends cable strapped together, whole thing poked in the ground and then rebar to reinforce).

At first thought this was no Beni but it lacks the variegated leaves. Does anyone know what it is? Blooms and seeds prolifically like Beni.

TLC, the first from the Co-op were planted in Mid-March and all the rest way after that. Some in April, May, and June so they got a late start. They are growing but no blooms in site yet.. Yours look great, thanks for the photos..

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

Gourd,
Your long growing period will help you get seed. My neighbors here in So Cal think MG's are perennial because they reseed themselves while the first batch is still producing a show!

The last three mornings I have been out either collecting seed or dead heading to prevent some predominant ones from re-seeding so much. The new seedlings are also getting thinned out big time!

Arlene, you are so lucky with your CA mgs. The dark purple one I posted about earlier has never had another bloom. This has been a crazy year for them here, at least for the beautiful Japanese variety. I gave my daughter a package of mixed common varieties, which she planted 2 mos. after I planted my Japanese varieties. Hers are blooming and going crazy. I'm beginning to think that the Japanese varieties are much more finicky as to conditions.

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

I had mine in full sun and they weren't doing anything except looking bad. That was the reason I put them in the hanging baskets because I didn't have any where to put them in the shade that I could stake them. They started blooming almost immediately once they were in the shade.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

I'll have to try that. I've always thought of morning glories as sun plants, but maybe the Japanese varieties like it cooler.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

One I received in a Round Robin...I think it's an oldie but very pretty non-the-less. :)

You all have some lovely blooms!! I have found also that one's planted in some shade do well here in OH, even better than the full sun.

I am finding here that the JP mg's also are prone to tearing much more so than the others. This is the Mt. Fuji Blue, pretty, but ripped up from the rain these past 2 evenings.

My Flying Saucer Tower is blooming. this is the first bloom. It looks like a Heavenly Blue not a Flying Saucer. Is it just too early for the marbled look I thought I would get?

Finally I got a bloom worth bragging about. I made this raised bed about 8 weeks ago. I put in the plants and found lots of space left so I sprinkled several seeds by the tree. So now there are 2 MGs growing together on each piece of twine climbing the tree. There's a cypress vine growing from the trellis on up the twine and there are the slower growing picotees (2 or 3) still down on the soil. Not tall enough to climb yet.

And here's the bloom, it's so big and I was so excited to see it.

Pretty Molly!!! Don't you just love those blues....

Monterey, yours is pretty too...are the leaves var. or plain?

Laurrie, I second your opinion of the JMG.

Citrus Heights, CA(Zone 9b)

They are plain. This is the Beast! The whole top is covered with blooms to bloom. The pot is 26 in. tall the whole thing is over 8ft. tall .

Monterey - I think you have a heavenly blue mg, hard to tell tho because the sun is reflecting off the bloom....

Citrus Heights, CA(Zone 9b)

These came out of a flying saucer package!

Here is my first!!! flying saucer to bloom this year ~ Monterey, they always have some on the vine here that look just like yours does. be patient, I think you will see the pretty stripes and streaks before long :)

New wrinkle , or is this the process? Took these today. Two colors now.

Needville, TX(Zone 9a)

Monterey, those look like two different vines....?

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

Hummmm,Monterey what did you plant there? Are they suppose to be 2 different flower colors or just one?

I have Flying Saucers that were totally blue and some that were totally white. I have Chocolate Silks that are more of a Mauve than Chocolate and Tye Dyes that are also mauve, and Blue Star with streaks. So we could have a Clarks Heavenly Blue mutation here and I would tag the seed pod if it makes just to see what it will produce next year..... :o)
Dee
anybody miss me?????? :o(

Needville, TX(Zone 9a)

Nope ;p

Stockton, CA(Zone 9a)

Oh Pam, she's gonna swat you for that. harhar
Yes, Dee. We missed you. Where have you been?

The blue star I bought off ebay bloomed what appears to be the same 2 exact colors as yours, Rich.

Whoopty doo, right? LOL I know, you all are totally shocked that some seeds bought off ebay are not what they are supposed to be, but I guess it COULD happen. ;~)

Thumbnail by PudgyMudpies
Needville, TX(Zone 9a)

Donna, I'm not worried in the least about those swat's, I think I can still outrun her....lol. Hey I like those little blue ones....are they Heavenly Blue? I didn't grow any mg's that I bought on Ebay this year, I am saving them for next year. I am curious to know what I have, or what I don't have...lol.

Stockton, CA(Zone 9a)

Well I doubt I could outrun MY mom when I sass her. I am 44 years old and I can STILL be frozen in place with one of her looks! You have alot of confidence! LOLOLOL

Those "little" blue ones are actually the same size or bigger then the blue star, they are just back farther. The heavenly blues that I always grow are from a commercial pack, so I am sure they really ARE heavenly, lol, and they have softer cast to them. Does that make sense? These have a brightness that heavenly does not have.
Can't explain it well. As I tell my husband, listen to what I mean, not what I say! LOL

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

Yep and you can bet Moon knows what one of those "Frozen in place looks are to" I am the Queen of that Look....I perfected it for all other mothers....it even works on my dogs........lol...LOL
:o)
Dee

Needville, TX(Zone 9a)

LOL about your mom.....

Yes, you make sense....I didn't know if the color was true or not...glad to know it is true. I really love that color!

Stockton, CA(Zone 9a)

Yes, the color in the pic is true. I like it too, I had originally wondered if maybe blue star just "did" that, you know, reverted or something. That was back in my naive days when I believed you got what you paid for. LOL

Dee, just wanted to thank you for teaching that stare to my mom. She really read the manual well, sometimes I even tremble. ;~) She laughs at me when she sees what she calls my "deer in the headlights" look. She is such a gloater. LOL

So where have you been?

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

LOL...anyway,Moons brother, (still dangling from the ceiling fan) was suppose to send my membership renewal in on the 14th. I had it made out and in the envelope and all, stamped and addressed all he had to do was drop it in the mail.......
Well on the 20th, membership is up on the 21st, I had to use the truck to go somewhere, I look in the console for a CD and .What do I find, yep you guessed it, my membeship renewal..........so he's been hanging from the ceiling fan ever since.
I let him down for time to time to go to the bathroom so he doesn't Pi** all over the house.............
good story huh........sure wish I could have done it......LOL

Anyway thats where I have been sitting on the side lines watching all the action. Moon wanted to pay my membership and I thanks but no thanks that boy is gonna suffer........LOL....and he did.....everyday I couldn't get on Daves' he sure knew about it, so I'll bet next time I send him to the post office he goes twice.........LOL
:o)
Dee

Needville, TX(Zone 9a)

Yep, this is exactly why I was a runner - from that creativity of her's....that is unless she managed to grab my in my sensitive area and made me stop on a dime!
