My camera (Fuji Finepix S5000) takes pics that are pretty true to color, except when I try to take pics of purple flowers, they inevitably look blue in the pictures. Will adjusting the white balance straighten that out?
I thought I died and went to heaven!
I've been pretty happy with my Olympus C750 as far as representing true blues/reds/purples.. but then I don't use the automatic white balance.
Kell... Molasses on a brug.. are you trying to have every bug in the world come visit your brugs????
Wow Kell! What kind of molasses did you use? I'm not familiar with adding yeast... My brugs do so well with the molasses and other goodies I feed them. So sorry you had a bad experience!
MzMunchken: The molasses doesn't attract bugs...
Kell,if you would have known in the beginning, you should have named this.
The Whopper of all threads!
I am glad I am on Cable!
Me too, and even that is starting to take a few seconds.
OK GUYS!!!!
Ya see the purple brug???
THATS what I want
Now fess up
who's got one?
Seriously, that is what I want,I wish there was some way to breed one
Thats the best color fake I've seen ,I reallly like it
I thought yours was gonna be Double with frills??
I gotta get the purple first, then I gotta work on the pink picotte edges......LOL
Nice job Mary.....sure looks real to me!
Now, that would be something to work toward.
Wanna see purple's
That is too cool. Esp the purple. Though a whole tree of those may make me whoozi! LOL. So tell me, what else does Photo Shop do? I would imagine you would get sick of changing your flower colors after a few.
Mary, if I could do that to all my brugs out in the yard, I sure would! I would finally have dark pinks! LOL Custom colors! I love it.
I like AL in peach.
Who new photo shop did so much. I have it on my computer and I can't even figure out how to make a picture black and white. The only thing I know how to do is correct the levels of a picture. How did you make it purple? Heck, how do I make it black and white?
It checks levels of a pic, Kristi? What does that mean?
Auto Level Yes or No
Auto Contrast Yes or No
You don't have to use them.
Auto level or auto contrast will change the colors of a picture- but not to any other color then what the plant is. Not purple- how did they do that? How do you make the photos black and white?
Curves will Lighten or darken a picture- not the color but the back round.
This is all I know about photoshop.... Sad, huh? Just what my husband taught me.
That is a lot more than I know about it. In fact, I don't have it. I have Paint Shop Pro I think. I don't know how to use it either, but at the time, I thought I should have it. LOL!
Kristi, beyond me, I guess.
Belvanie, was I being more dense than usual?? LOL. I do LOVE your coleus. I have to get that one next year.
No Kell- It's a option you can choose to use or not. That is all I know. I need to see if I can find some directions or something. Actually I'm not liking my new camera and having lots of issues with picture taking lately. It's not as fun as it use to be. :(
In Photoshop, to make something B&W, you click Image -> Adjustments -> Desaturate. (I'm not sure what it is in Photoshop Elements, but probably something similar.) To make the brug purple, I did Select -> Color Range, and then clicked on the blossom in the tiny sample image. Once you have all the red selected to your satisfaction, click okay, and then go Image -> Adjustments -> Hue/Saturation and adjust the sliders there to make whatever kind of weird color you want. =)
You need to be careful with that 'Auto Levels' feature. It's just the software's best guess as to what the color balance and contrast should be. Sometimes, especially with pictures that have a lot of a single color, it guesses wrong. I don't use the 'auto' feature very much. I try to be very conservative with adjusting pictures - the idea is to make them look as close to reality as possible, not 'better than' reality ;-)
To ensure accurate color in your pictures, include something that is pure white (like a piece of paper) in the image. Of course if you are taking a picture of a pure white brug or datura the white is already there! When you are editing your picture, use the software's color balance / color cast feature. You can click on the area that is supposed to be white and the software will adjust the color balance of the white portion to make it "true" white and adjust the colors in the rest of the image by the same amount. This adjustment will compensate for any color problems caused by lighting conditions or camera quirks.
Welcome to Daves, Tom,
Thanks for the camera info!
Kell you moved it and started a little piece. News Flash, is everything going well.
Bumped... to show a friend! Just beautiful Kell. Put me on the list, I'll pay! xo,Mere
I hope you had a good flight Kell. I'm sure your Mom is thrilled to see you.
Happy to see this back on the first page. So pretty. Mary
Thanks for bumping :)
That was certainly a red one. Do my instincts betray me, if I think, that you are both going completely nuts searching THE name to give her?
... the sound of a red diamond as it cuts through a sunbeam ... if I ever was to be a monk in an monastry that would be with such plant beside my stone bedside. Working hard all day long, meditating for even longer time on the flowers in the evenings hoping one day really to comprehent the constitution of their beauty. For all that I can say, it is uincredible beautiful.
Congratulations, both of you :D
LOL! Great seeing you here Tonny.
I am here!! Long flight. I got in when it was dark here but I see a huge brug on my Mom's back stoop covered in pink flowers. It looks so pretty. It is the one that Brugie sent her in April. Unfortunately, it didn't start flowering until after she went into the hospital so she still has not seen a brug bloom. When I go see her tomorrow I will bring her in one. If she has a good day, I am hoping to take her out for a few hours and bring her back to her home. She would get to see it then!
TARogers, the plant is really growing. Tiny buds. I have been fertilizing it like crazy. I am so anxious to see what it does for Susie. The cutting is still green so that is good. It is in a plastic bag on my windowsill. I tried rockwool. I sure hope it is all rooted and growing when I get home.
Glad to hear you made it Kell! Lots of love and prayers headed out east to you and your mom.
Sorry Kell I didn't know your mom was still in the hospital. Hope she recovers soon. (((Hugs)))
Kell: Thoughts and prayers from my little corner of Texas to you and your Mother :)
Kell, our thoughts and prayers are with your Mom and you.

Kell my prayers and thoughts go out to you and your Mom, I bet she will love seing that brug
