I thought I died and went to heaven!

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

I'm not bored with it either....just nothing new to say about it.
Other than WOW!!!!! of course :-)

Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)

Kell, Your photos of this beauty are breathtaking. It would be a wonderful story to put into book form. Beginning to bloom, the story of the life of a plant. Lots of photos. Your photo of the 19th is framed and hung now. Thanks for this delightful thread.

I just had to come look at this one more time. Kell, how's our baby doing today?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I guess I'm no different. I think this one deserves a permanent place on the first page. LOL! Absolutely the darkest color I've ever seen. I thought Suzanne and MM were dark, but this one beats them both.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I just want to know if this has set a record?????

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I wonder too CC. I know it's set a record for darkest brug in the USA!

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

I deserves it! Bump!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

A little limp. I gave it that bad alfalfa tea. Not as limp as others though, thank god I gave it very little. Of course I have not watered it a second time after, that is when all the problems really started. I am holding off on switching all its soil. I am afraid to lose all its pods. My First Day is a disaster and I really, really liked that brug!

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

You might want to get a small bottle of Superthrive and test it on a couple of the limp ones, see what a shot of B1 does for them.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Tell me again which one is First Day? Is that the Tonny cross?

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

I did the alfalfa; Soaked it in a bucket overnight; next morning it was foaming. Spread it around on the top of the soil of the brugs that are in the black 20 gallon pots.

That was about 4 weeks ago and it didn't phase them in a bad way. Have also been putting on epsom salts and Peters 20-20-20. Also some B1. Everytime I water there is some sort of fertilizer (half strength) in the water. But the week I put the alfalfa on ~ I waited a week before I started up with anything else.

It kind of formed a crust as it dries out. So everytime I would walk by, I would pour a little water on it. Do you suppose it has done all it could do? I could just pull off those little crusts and through them away.

When my husband saw what I was doing, he said, "Why do you want to fee the rabbits?" I was horrified. All night I had visions of the rabbits jumping up into those pots and eating the alfalfa as well as the brugs. Whew! didn't happen . . .

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

First Day is Karyn's cross.
TWLC, did you put molasses and all that other stuff in your alfalfa tea?

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Kell, I didnt know, you were using alfalfa tea on your brugs.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I am not anymore Monika! LOL.

I started on my roses from what I learned over on that forum. They did fine. Then I did some of my brugs and they were OK. Then I added molaases and yeast and disaster has hit. Live and learn.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Have you rooted some cuttings already for Cala etc. Kell?

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

Cala,
I didn't add the molasses and yeast; just soaked the alfalfa good in water and applied. Could that be the difference from what Kell did?

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

This is a beautiful colored Brug, Kell. I hope it survives the Alfalfa tea. I mixed some up and then it rained and rained so it sat for about a week. Wow, what a smell when I lifted that lid. LOL Talk about rotten.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Kell, please say you started a little piece or two before disaster hit!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I am going to take a piece now, just in case. A new flower opened up tonight. So I think it will be fine. I am moving it back to the orignial house it came from when it first opened. I can put it in more sun there and keep the soil dryer.

I was going to post another pic tonight but my photo shop program won't open! LOL

Whitewater, WI

LOL, Kell

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

I dont know the 1st thing about photo shop, but doesnt it change the color of everything?? Like your white wall on the 1st picture would be a different color? Ive seen it make regular old green grass look so neon it looked like it was hit by radio-active water.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I have no clue Shelly. I have never seen it but I have put it on my Christmas wish list!

Marshfield, MO(Zone 6a)

Photo Shop would not inherently change the color of a photo that was taken by a digital camera, or even a regular camera and placed on CD. Only if you open the photo in Photo Shop and edit it would it possibly change the color of the photo.

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

In general, it's the camera itself which might not represent the colors correctly, because of an incorrect white balance, etc. (Also, some cameras just "see" intense or pure colors in a weird way, which might be why you saw the radioactive grass color.) In this case, the white wall in the background appears slightly blue. This could be corrected in Photoshop by adjusting the white balance, but that operation would only make the flower more red! So if you're wondering how truly the flowers' color is represented... they are at *least* as red as they appear in the photos.

Hm... clear as mud. Oh well =)

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Thanks lunavox. I understand what your saying.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Lunavox, you sound like you know what you are talking about. Would you mind answering my questioon? I can't get a good shot of my red roses. It blurs the petals of the red ones. Can I change my white balance if I shoot on auto? Or do I have to manually set all my settings? That would be a big leap into the big time for my little mind. LOL

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

My camera just can't seem to get purples and blues correct.
The brighter the purple the more red it comes out.......
So Kell my dear, your not alone. :-)

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

OK Kell....does that mean your brug in the pic is really purple? Have you been holding out on us?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Riker....my camera takes a beautiful purple and makes it bright blue but all other colors come out true. I'd love to be able to take a picture of this brug to see how it would come out on my camera. Seems like reds come out pretty true on mine.

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

Gosh! Thanks lunavox!

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

Kell--
It really depends on the camera. If you want, send me e-mail with details about your camera and maybe I can offer some ideas or at least tell you where to find more info. :) (If you can, also send a rose photo that shows the problem...)

Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)

Just a thought, but with all the questions on color perhaps a photo with a gray card next to the flower would help. The cards are usually available at camera stores for a couple bucks and provide a 'standardized' color.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Oh my, I love those coleus. That card sure makes the colors stand out.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Brinda! Now you know the truth! I didn't want to make you all too lustful for my purple brug. But now that the truth is known, eat your hearts out!

But Belvanie, then you have a grey card in your photo! LOL. I want that yellow coleus with purple veins. Please take a bigger pic of that one and post it.

Lunavox, thanks!! All my problems better be solved tomorrow. I am buying a new camera, I think. A Nikon coolpix 5200. I know I have been saying this for months but I have really decided this time. LOL.

Here is what I was talking about. The red colors get muted, no differentiation among the petals.

Thumbnail by Kell
Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

It's okay, nobody panic... I was able to recover the TRUE colors of the brug with Photoshop! hee hee

Kell, a Coolpix 5200 is awesome. If you look on my photography website linked in my profile, you can see the type of macro shots I was able to take with a 3500. It's sooo fun. Just try taking shots of water drops on the highest resolution setting and see what type of cool stuff shows up in them! You can also capture the fine structures in petals and leaves. (I'm lucky enough to have a Canon EOS 300D now, but I'll have to buy a real macro lens before I can get the same quality of macro shots as I got with the Coolpix 3500!)

If you learn to set your white balance when you get it, that will help a lot with any weird color problems... Here's a good article on WB: http://www.photoxels.com/tutorial_white-balance.html
