Plumie in Saskatchewan

Fort Pierce, FL(Zone 10a)

Fortunately this is not the season for all the flowers and plants now. They look so tired and scraggly I think they would be glad to be blown away out of this heat. *grin*. I have big palms in big pots that I would lay down and tie to the chain link fence and of course I would bring my Begonias into my son's house. Everything else is on their own!

Bring in your new Plumeria!! ;)

Camarillo, CA

I thought this photograph might inspire the plumeria enthusiasts out there. It was taken three weeks ago in Hana, Hawai'i.

Well it inspires me to move to Maui LOL (my favorite island I do believe)
Awesome pix.....I can almost smell that sweet perfume :-)

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Just finished wiping the drool off my keyboard....

Thank you Iorion4 for posting such a lovely example of what those trees are capable of.

Linda we *are* going to have to hunt down a rainbow one of these fine years.

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

Our weather has decided to turn cold and wet.....had to move all my plumies inside or risk losing them to wet rot. I'm so sad though cause now all the blooms that hadn't opened yet are starting to drop off :(
maybe I'll get flowers next year

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

I'm sorry Mark ... I know the feeling! :( Next year I'm keeping mine in a window until our day and night temps are really warm. The buds developed in those conditions and I'm going to play it safe and keep them happy.

Mine had white petals with a yellow center....I think it would have been a scented one.

I do however have an adenium blooming......it's in my bedroom window. Thanks for the growing tips BuriedTreasures!!

Victoria, BC(Zone 8b)

Oh Marc, so sorry your plumie is dropping buds. Did you get any to open? And were they a rainbow?

Pam, you had yours bloom, and Not One picture??? Saying it had white petals with a yellow center is almost like saying it was a girl, but not taking baby pictures! LOL

I'll be out talking to that guy I mentioned Pam, later this month, reminding him about me getting cuttings in OCT. I'll keep ya posted on how it goes.

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

HEy Lilypon! It bloomed? Where are the pics! I agree MG, she is holding back.......my brugs are all blooming at once since we had a LitTTLe rain.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

The bud never opened. :( Just developed enough to let me see it's color and than it fell over. I think it was too cool here....it got rained on and just didn't dry out quickly enough. Please post your beauties weeds!!

Linda I'm sure plumies will do well for us but since it was the coldest summer in almost a hundred years here it really didn't have a fair chance. NEXT YEAR LOOK OUT!! A plumie *will*/*better*/***has too*** bloom in Saskatchewan ..................................................even if I have to buy sun lamps!! ;)

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 2b)

Clare-CA - How old are the seedlings in your pots that you posted in May? I have one tht looks just likethat. Started the seed i Jan. (I think) have passed on the other seedlings -all in one pot andwas too scared to split them up - .

Pam. how old is yours? and what temp do you have it during the winter.? What fert. do yu use and how often.

Mine looks just like the brug that echoes posted in June. I have 3 leaves on mine.

I've got it sitting on a shelf over a radiator...GordonHawk told me to keep it very warm. I fertilize it with Bloom Booster Miracle grow. Mine was a cutting rooted this spring. Welcome to the insanity of the Canadian Polar Plumeria Grower's Club inanda! ;)

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

yes.. Lily ... do keep them warm.. sorry to hear of you losing your flowers... perhaps next year you can start earlier with them.. given heat on the bottoms of the pot.. I was rereading this thread and noticed your picture of the plumeria... and thought ot myself.. the rocks on the bottom.. she should loose them.. unless you are leaving it and need to retain water .. they will help it stay moist.. not the best for plumerias.. I like to see how fast mine can dry out .. and the heat helps.. this cycleing is a sure spur to their growth..especially here at oveer 40* N lat.. Gordon

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Thanks Gordon......I'll remove them! Now that I read your posting I think I should have removed them as soon as I could tell it was rooted.

BTW GordonHawk is a very accomplished Plumeria grower......he grew a Plumeria from seed to flowering in less than a year (I think it was ~ 9 months but I'm not positive now). It was done in record breaking time....he *really* knows his Plumerias.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 2b)

Oh well,

Thanks for the info. I'll have to pass this on then. Can't keep anywhere here so hot. My LA iris & other things would be very unhappy, not to mention me -

Oh well. Tropicals not for me. obviously.

Pam!

Heather, that lives a few blocks from me, just got a couple of plumerias. You'll have to ask her what they are, and where she got them. Hopefully I'll be next to get mine.

Don't work too hard...

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Looking forward to seeing the beauties you two will be growing and thank you so very much for the brug cuttings! :D

lol..thanks Linda tho' I think it will be a little while yet before we can put up our feet but at least winter will ease up the outdoor work and we can focus on getting the things we salvaged cleaned and sorted.

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

I may just have an actual bloom yet. Most of my buds fell off once I brough the plant in (rain and cooler temps)

Oooooooooooooooh RikerBear............ what a beauty!!!!!!!!!! :D

That one is most definitely a keeper!!

p.s. Whats it's name?

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

I like it too! I love the peachy, yellow, orangey color...and it has a wonderful spicey scent. I'm just SO happy!!!!!
Oh and it's name is #4 hehehehehehe

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Grow it big and remember when you come to Canada........bring a cutting with you!! ;)

Where did #4 come from???????????????

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

#4 came from an Ebay auction....I got 5 cuttings for $12.00 last February I believe it was.
They were suppose to be:
#1 Red
#2 Pink
#3 White
#4 Yellow
#5 Rainbow

If it ever gets nice and tall, I'll be sure and send you a cutting.......promise :-)

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

:D Feed it fertilizer and keep it on a hot mat in front of your sunniest window and pray to the Plumie God that it grows big FAST...Please!! ;D

Victoria, BC(Zone 8b)

Marc, wonderful plumie. You've done very well with it. Great colour, and I'd love to be able to smell it. What about the other ones? How are they doing. I'm still hoping to get one the end of Oct.

Linda, in Victoria (but away on holidays)

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

The others are all happy and healthy and covered with big glossy leaves, but not a bloom spike to be seen. The flip side is that #4 have (had) a huge bloom spike, and not a single leaf at all. Odd................
My two seedlings are also very healthy and growing slowly.....no bloom there either, but they're still rather young and small.

Sarasota, FL(Zone 9b)

I wish you all had been here a couple of weeks ago. My best friend down the street lost her 14' Frangipani during Hurricane Frances. So much root stock! It is very easy to root here in Florida, just stick a cutting in the ground and ignore it! I am in hopes it might start new growth from the trunk that broke off at ground level...what do you think the chances of that are?

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

I would think the chances are very good provided it has some time to dry out. Keep us posted on how it does.
There has been so much lose in Florida and the Gulf Coast areas that a bit of 'miracle' would be nice to hear about.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

What happened to the rest of the tree Dale?

This might be the most enormous thread I have ever read on DG! After reading everything for a few months, I started on pictures, exclamation points, and hyperlinks. So I have e-mailed myself 5 of your great hyperlinks, to read and order from, etc., at my leisure.

Maybe this should be a Forum?!

Thanks everybody.

Peter

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Is it in our RoundUp itinerary??????? :D

What was the cost?

Victoria, BC(Zone 8b)

it takes about 45 in to drive there one way. It CAN be in you itinerary, depends what you want to do. I don't think we have an itinerary written in stone. The bad news, $29.99 each.

If they grow... it's a deal no matter what the cost!

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Welcome to the insanity of Frangi Pani Freakout Peter! :) Tho' in your zone the plant should be very happy! ;)

Linda if you go to that greenhouse again in the spring would you please pick me up a Rainbow (I'm guessing they are rooted???) and I'll get the money off to you! :) Pretty Please and Thank You!
