They all seem to be different pastel colored ones. One that he is very fond of smells like a peach! Of corse I love the blooms, but I also love the exotic shape of the trees. Now if I have any luck with the "sticks", I will soon have a grove of Frangipani trees! I would love to do some in pots around the pool. I think they would be less messy than the Hibiscus. What a lucky girl you are to have your dream come true:)
Pati
Plumie in Saskatchewan
Pati if you have a digital please post pictures of them when they are in bloom! :D
I'll be glad to post some pictures for you. I will check over the fence until I see them bloom. I used to be able to see into his yard without any trouble, but now there is a Passion Vine that has taken over the fence, up his trees and is now in the process of taking over my carport! Would you believe it had grown all over my son's motocycle before I noticed it LOL
Pati
LOL....Pati your zone can be scary! My zone, and indoor growing for nine months of the year, keeps them pretty tame.
Thank you for watching, I'm looking forward to seeing the blooms and how large these trees can get. Buried Treasures said my Plumie was growing where none had any business being ;) ...obviously mine (if all goes well) will never attain the optimum height but hopefully I will be able to make more and share. :)
Pati, I think that you are a lucky girl too to have such a generous neighbor! How exciting! The one that smells like fresh peaches is called Aztec Gold. Be sure to read up on how to root cuttings at this web site: http://www.plumeria101.com/cuttings101.html
Plumerias grow really well around a pool and would love it there. They will really make your pool look like an Oasis.
Hey guys, check out this link: http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/load/plumeria/msg0512290018256.html?20 and this forum: http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/plumeria/
I looked at the site Clare and the Aztec Gold tree is gorgeous! :)
Hello everyone, I've been jumping around looking at the plumie threads and posted on a couple. I just have a few things I want to say here.
Rikerbear.....we want pictures!!!! and then more pictures!!!!
Patricia, you are getting good with that camera, (I saw them over on the other thread) now go over to the other side of that man's house and get more pictures! LOL
Clare, I love all the good growing you are doing, but you are a very bad influence. I read this thread the other day and I jumped over to the Aloha site and bought 11 cuttings. Why did I do that? The colors were gorgeous. (of course I sure didn't go back and cancel that order now did I? nope)
Below is my picture. The yellow is a clipping I took from my neighbors tree in December. The short one in front I bought from Ebay, in Oct or November. It's a little slower growing, shorter and I forgot what color it was supposed to bloom.
Imzadi should jump in here and give pictures and updates on her clippings.
Snosail, you should too.
Pam, keep those pictures coming with updates.
:^)
Molly
Quick question for anyone that has purchased cuttings. Were the cuttings rooted or were the cut ends hardened off with a waxy coating?
Donna
Donna,
The one I bought off ebay was cut only and callused over. The ones I cut, I waited for calluses before planting too.
:^)
Molly
Molly I promise to post more pix than you could ever want once I have more than sticks to show you all :-)
RikerBear
Marc
Molly, thank you for the compliments:-) You can't go wrong with $1.99 cuttings! If you really want to be tempted, check this site out: http://www.floridacolors.com/ LOL! I'm an enabler, I admit it!
Donna, the cuttings from Aloha Palms are cut and healed over also. I don't believe that they use wax to seal the cuts.
Marc, I can't wait to see your blooms also.
I moved some of my Plumerias to an empty area on my back patio, which used to contain a small pond. I put an inch or two of rocks on the bottom, and I plan to water sparingly because there is no drainage at the bottom, and I don't want my Plumies sitting in water. I am a little concerned that they might receive too much humidity, but summers here are often dry and hot so I think they will be okay. Sometimes black spot can occur with too much humidity, I think.
Here's a few pictures:
Clare how long does it take from the inflo showing itself till the blooms open? p.s. I'm showing my plumie your pics...I want to make sure it gets the idea!
I have two sticks starting to shoot up little horns...growth is happening YEA!!!
I'll send a pic when they grow a bit more.
:D...... :D........ :D Way to go rikerbear!! :D.... :D..........:D
WARNING!!! Plumeria Passion (A/K/A Frangipangi Freakout) is highly addictive. My son's new girlfriend has a number of trees at her house and is going to bring me cuttings to share.
Also......I'm going to Weatherbee Nursery and buy myself a blooming Plumie in a 3 gal pot for 19.95. At my age I need instant gratification! LOL
Pati
PS: I also talked to the nurseryman about the proper time to cut and plant them here. Of course he was talking about planting outside.

Patischell, they are planted all over town here and further south. I see them in people's yards as I drive through Los Angeles. You can plant them in the ground where you are too. You can plant any time this spring or summer. Mine stay outside all year in containers. Some of them lose their leaves, but the ones on the patio keep most of theirs.
Please post pictures of your new Frangipani Pati...I'll have to remember "Frangipani Freakout" (describes the feeling exactly)! ;) p.s. I also sent you mail.
All mine are planted in the ground, even my seedlings like Clare water them everyday, and have one pushing up a flower stalk now,and that pink one has been blooming non stop for a year, but I think it will end soon!
Neat, Don! Be sure and post a picture when your flower stalk blooms.
I will Clare,I'm curious to findout which one it is,I can't remember, its either a yellow or rainbow,it was written on the trunk, but it either got washed off,or grew and distorted it!
Has a lot of red coloring in the leaves more than normal .
Clare beat me to it Don...please post your pics. I'm very excited about the mail you have sent and will get the seeds started ASAP!! :D Did your wife give you a big kiss???
The cuttings arrived this morning! I have been trying to post them all morning, but I think the server was having an idenity problem! I have three pix that I took by my van so you could get some idea of their size. The branches are about 18" long. I have NO idea about how to cut and ship. ANy advice would be welcome!
Well, it looks like there is still trouble, it won't load my pix. Don't give up, I'll keep on trying

Those are fantastic looking cuttings Pati! :D Please show us pictures of the blooming one you bought as well.
Pati, you can root them as they are, or you can cut off some of those branches and root those too. Typically, cuttings are about a foot long, but longer ones will root too as will shorter ones. Follow these instructions: http://www.plumeria101.com/cuttings101.html There is a lot of information here: http://www.plumeria101.com/
Lillypon. It took 8 days to get your envelope.mailed it today,so let me know how long it take to get it from my end,yes Patti's always giving me kisses!!!Well at least one before bed time!!LOL!
LOL Don...I'm glad and thank you! :D I'll let you know as soon as they arrive.

This is the BEST thread!!! I started out not knowing what a Plumeria was, and am ending up sharing cuttings. I love all of y'all for your great input.
CLARE_CA that is a great website and will certainly help me so much. I peeped at the Aloha site and MOLLYMc's comments so I probably will get some cuttings from there. (Am I hooked, or what? *grin*)
Lilypon, I didn't get to go to the nursery for my plant yet. We have had a bad two days with my DD's dog. We thought she might have to be put down, but the operation ended last night about 9:30 and so far the prognosis is good. I may end up getting more than one (no surprise) to go around the pool. We are having my son's 50th birthday party here on the 30th. So far the basic guest list is 58 and we will have people coming in from CA, WA,GA, MO & CO to stay over the weekend. Want the pool to look it's best. LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL!!!!
Pati
LOL :D Sounds like your weekend is off to a great start Pati! :D Having the dog taken care of must have been a big relief. Your excitement has me grinning from ear to ear and I'm postive the person that receives your cuttings wil be ecstatic!!! Sounds like you have a fantastic birthday party planned for your son and the bloomin' plumies will give it an exotic flare! :D Don't forget WE WANT PICTURES!! :D
Pati, I don't know if you are anywhere near these guys, but they have the best: http://www.floridacolors.com/
Also, after making a cut of a branch, let it heal over for a few days before planting or shipping. Cuttings can be shipped easily and require no moisture. Just wrap in newspaper and give adequate cushion in the box.
CLARE_CA, I finally visited the Floridacolors web site - WOW!
This is just a short way from where my granddog was operated on, and about 20 miles south of where I lived in Miami. I think I feel a visit coming on!!!!
TO ALL: I went to the nursery yesterday and it was a good news and bad news day. The good news is I bought a Plumie, "Singapore White", the bad news it is not in bloom. All of the for sale Plumies that were in bloom had been sold :( The other good news is that I spent two hours with their master gardener and he let me go into their stock area where everything was in bloom :) The stock tree of the Plumie I bought was about 8' tall and had clusters of blooms as big as my head! He started with one cutting from Hawaii and mine is the first one he has had for sale. The leaves are super shiney and the tips more rounded than usual. I'm going to try to get a pix of my new baby and will post it later. Soooo....the pool decorations are going to be HUGE "Macho Ferns", BIG pots of red Bouganvilla and hanging Begonias. That should "razzle dazzle" them, dont'cha think!!
Pati
Great purchase, Pati! Singapore is a lovely evergreen one with a heavenly fragrance.
It will be awesome Patti!! :D Please take pictures of your yard and post them for us!
Lookin' good!!! :D It's a fantastic feeling isn't it! :D
I feel silly being so excited over tiny little horn sprouts on my sticks....but darn it all I am! LOL
My two seedlings are both doing 'okay'. They keep growing out leaves, that than yellow and drop off.
I'm hoping it's just becouse the temps aren't real high yet.
Could be I'm not feeding them correctly too I suppose.
It does seem amazing that a plant so common to Hawaii will grow for us. I'll be watching to see what the experts have to say about your seedlings...Tropicman is sending a few and I have some from PotEmUp so I'll start them all at the same time. :)
RB,
I have a friend who lives on Blaine Island, and she told me her plumerias were in bloom this week, she told me she follows the stokes tropical feeding schedule,I told her it must be working to be getting blooms this early they.
