And the new name is...

Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)

what's in a name? would not a rose by any other name still smell the same?

Surry, VA(Zone 7b)

I am also glad there wasn't a name change. I didn't post because I thought my personal opinion would be biased based upon being a member for so long and I tend to be a creature of habit. :o)

Manhattan Beach, CA(Zone 11)

Great, now we can go ahead and name our next baby 'Deegie' as planned.

Your idea of retaining the Dave's Garden identity for this site under an overall "umbrella name" seems very sound to me.

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

Terry, I have plenty of room to store stuff if need be. If y'all need help with that, just let us know.
Sometimes, life gets in the way of me, but im impressed im on an upward track (right now)
i know there is talk about a roundup down here in oct. im sure we could move plenty of them then, too

Well, if it's more members who garden that you want we each tell one or more gardeners about this place. I've already told my sister about you and she was interested immediately.
As soon as she gets back from her pre-season vacation and gets back to her 30 acre farm and market garden she'll be joining and asking / answering on her work breaks.
Thanks for staying Dave's Garden - the name suits and there are a lot of very well known single names in the popular world

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

So glad we stayed the same.....I like it the way it is....most of the time anyway..... :o)

Blooms,

How about you start another thread with that as the topic. We can each offer ideas of how to boost the membership.

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Clay Center, KS(Zone 5b)

Thank you, Thank you, I'm glad we're still Dave's Garden..nothing else seems natural!! Appreciate all of you!

Like the song... dont go changing.......I love you just the way you are.....

Edmonton, AB(Zone 3a)

Whoopee!!

Southwestern, OH(Zone 6b)

I was just about to say in the other thread that I agreed 110% with what Brenda said.... then I finished reading, came over here, and saw that you did just that.

Why not a contest to name the Umbrella Site Dave?

You, Trish and Terry choose the 10 or so you like the most, then let everyone vote.... you always have the right of refusal. :-)

The winner gets a mug/t-shirt/whatever with the new umbrella name.....

I can already see a logo for the new site name.... a big Umbrella, with a vine and flowers trailing up it, with links to everything underneath. :-)

Thank you for NOT changing the name... I just don't think any other name would feel as comfortable as the name already have. :-)

I was on early this morning waiting for the change, but Dave decided to take his sweet time about it and I had to leave for the whole day. I was even tapping my toes this morning for him.

So when I got home tonite, I wasn't sure what to expect when I came here. Wow, what a nice surprise to see my second home was still here as DG.

Thank you Dave for your thoughtful considerations of our feelings and the welfare of this great community.

You are da man.

I feel like I was a little outspoken on the other thread. My apologies; whatever you would have decided, I would have flown with it.

But, of course, I am very pleased it will stay DG.

Thanks,

a

Allen Park, MI(Zone 6a)

It wouldn't be Daves Garden with any other name.

Great move Dave, It won't be long until we're 200,000 strong.

Keep up the GREAT work.
Thanks again to all the hard work you, Trish and Terry do.

Foooooph! Sigh of relief! Hoorray! DG DG DG. We can continue to abbreviate Dave's Garden. Hope nothing "perfect" comes up at least in the near future, Dave! But you can show the guys this thread where you feel it is a 'hindrance' to your marketing efforts (as you mentioned in the earlier thread). It is proof enough that this DG is nothing personal is attached with the name called "Dave". Even some of my colleagues have started to identify this "DG"!

But the figure 95,956 members (as someone also suggested) can be misleading. Because many people come in through some search engine, sign up and go away. If there is anyway to monitor the 'hits' a person makes can be a real index of the seriousness behind the person's visit to DG. Say, a hundred hits to DG can make one a member and so on??? Dunno if this is practically possible or not, just came to my mind. I have come across quite a few screen-names whose home page is blank with no contributions to a single thread. That does not make anything worth. Does it? Is there any method to identify the 'frequently visiting persons' to DG?

Best, Dinu

Tipping my glass in celebration...

Au Gres, MI(Zone 5a)

Yeah!!!!!!!!!!! Glad the name will remain the same.....Ok Dave now back to the Coffee Mugs.........got any for sale, cause it looks like alot of us would like to have one............

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

I am also happy we are still Dave's Garden.

I was so curious to know the name you were thinking of..
I see it was Gardenstead.com

Nope...DG is best!

Cheers,
Carol

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

im glad too!

Fort Pierce, FL(Zone 10a)

Since we all hang out in garden departments, perhaps the best advertising would be a T-shirt with the logo and davesgarden.com front and back. (hint, hint). Then....when people ask about it (and they WILL), we could make a convert right on the spot! I would even to be willing to carry my DG coffee mug to social functions that serve refreshments. (hint, hint). Word of mouth, doncha' know!

Hobart, IN(Zone 5a)

This will always be Dave's Garden to me, no matter what you call it. I am so glad that you've had a change of heart and decided to keep the name! BTW, I think that the idea of an "umbrella" name is a fantastic idea.

Golden, CO(Zone 5b)

I'm glad it is DG, but I can definitely see where Dave was coming from. My first impression when I was sent here was "Why would I want to pay for access to someones home page?" (This was before I knew what DG was all about!)

As I suggested elsewhere, if so many of our visitors come from the PDB and watchdog, then DG needs to be much more strongly promoted on those pages.

Quit hiding your light under a basket?

San Jacinto County, TX(Zone 8a)

Yep, I like it!
Point of interest, I don't remember how I found DG.
Might have been on a yahoo group!
-
Although I haven't been here long I luvs this place.
Tha people represented here are the best.
-
I also enjoy tha fact that Dave's Garden is World Wide.
The last week of April I was in the VA Hospital and kept
referring to it as Dave's World Wide Garden.
-
I corrected it for those /puters.
thanks dg

Blue Springs, MO(Zone 5b)

OMG I love it. Dave's Worldwide Garden!! Yeah!!!!

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

yup! kinda takes out the personal web-page thought!!

Canadaigua, NY(Zone 6b)

Even if you changed it I would still call it Dave's Garden. Force of habit, I'm glad you didn't. Kell's right I love being a little part of your garden Dave, Trish and Terry too! I'd be quite sad if I didn't have this place. I could really go for a nice cup of DG coffee right now...... hehe, and the tshirt idea is the best! Mere:)

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Davesgardenworld? Davesgardenglobe? Davesgardenstead?

Someone smack me upside the head!

I'm still relieved and happy. :)

Irving (Dallas area), TX(Zone 8a)

Global Gardening Network? (ggnw.com)?
World Wide Garden(s) (worldwidegarden(s).com)?
Gardens World Wide (gardensworldwide.com)?
Gardens Global (gardensglobal.com)?

Gardenwife, I'll smack you, if you'll smack me!

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

*Smack* upside the head! Let's not give anyone any ideas (unless it's for the umbrella name, heh).

Good thing gardenwife.com is taken! :D

Blue Springs, MO(Zone 5b)

Oh, golly, you guys, of COURSE I was talking about the umbrella name!! :)

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

Wow you don't know what a relief it was to get home from being gone 2 days and get here and see my home away from home is still the same. I will catch up on the other news and emails later. Right now I have 4 boxes of plants that came yesterday that I have to get taken care of.I am glad the name is not changing.

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

welcome back, mystic! Hah!~ I knew you were worried/wondering what you would be greeted with!

Hope the trip was fun and you didn't go thirsty.

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

Northport, ME(Zone 5b)

Since a couple days ago I would check in for a minute, Name's the same. Check in again, same. Finally I have the time to find this thread. I've been telling everybody (everybody has some kind of garden) to look up davesgarden.com. Glad I don't have to call them all and say look up Gardenstead (Instead) 'nuff sead? -misspelling intentional- Frank

Blue Springs, MO(Zone 5b)

LOL Frankay! Now, maybe everyone can stop worrying, and go look at the Identification Forum and tell me if I'm growing weeds or castors... ;)

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

Well you still could Frank. It works also.
