Ashern, in the lovely interlake region! Manitoba's inland oceans. Very nice, from what I hear.
Regular Gas at Chevron in CA ....2.19 per gallon
Their place was near Dog Lake. :) I would like to go there some day. See if there is even a farm still there. I have the topographic map and with a gps I could drive right to the old property line. Amazing, eh?
Price war in Fritch today, between LOWE'S (grocery store) and Allsup's (Convenience store). Ended with L=1.88.9 and A=1.86.9
At the edges of town, prices stayed at 2.09.9
It probably made the local news, but I didn't get to watch it.
Even so, $40 to fill up is painful...

I hope this link worked..
Jumped from 2.54 this morning (now yesterday)at 10:00am to 2.84 at 10:10 am.
I was told electricity was going up at 12:00 am today an hour and a half ago. Not really sure about that.
Ha! That was funny, Gourd. Yep, I shouldn't have put off getting gas for so long. I just paid $2.86 for gas this morning (only to find out later today that I went to THE most expensive gas station!). Good thing I don't drive much, and my car gets 36 miles/gallon.
$3.29 U.S.Dollars is what you'd be paying for a U.S.gallon of gas here.
US gallon equals 3.785 litres (Canadian/British spelling of liters ;)
We are paying $1.05 CDN for 1 litre of gas. :S
Lilypon, as of this morning, gas here in Halifax jumped from $1.12/litre to $1.28!
It'll soon be just as cheap to buy groceries from the (high-priced) convenience store up the street as it is to drive to the grocery store and buy them there!
Rhonda
Using Lilypons converstion to litres it costs us around $6.40/gallon at todays rates from XE.com
Baa--I was just looking at the gas prices in Europe. We're still paying much less than anybody over there. We should be grateful we've gotten away with paying so little for so long!
I keep picturing scenes from "Mad Max"--let's hope it doesn't come to that!
Rhonda

I suppose it will have to run out at some time.
I filled my car up yesterday and it was $3.19.9/gallon.
And they say it's going to go higher yet? Yikes. I drive 50 miles a day going to work and back home. I think I need a major cost of living raise. :)
$2.78 yesterday morning, $2.99 this morning.
Me, too, JoanJ!! I drive 30 mi. one way, 60 round trip.
$2.86 yesterday, $3.37 today.
$ 2,99 this morning in the oil state of Oklahoma
rationing stared this morning on stations not people !
YET ?
its so bad here we have run out. people cant go to work or drive any where.
can we all a state of emergancy??? i have to drive the kids to school everyday and some schools have shut down due to gas prices.
3.40 a gallon. people panicked and are still panicking.
something has got to give and when it does its gonna give hard.
living like i am trapped in my own home.
Sweden raised the price to $ 6 gallon for 95 octan.
and this is because of Katrina
Katrina has destroyed 9 of the biggest oilraffinaderies
imzadi, we "ain't seen nothin' yet!" I am really frightened of the far reaching of this situation.
I heard on the news that some are saying gas prices could go as high as $4/gallon here in the U.S. because of the short supply due to Katrina.
Heck, Dana, they were over $5 yesterday in Atlanta!
Yes! I've already noticed, while grocery shopping, that many items had gone up just a few weeks ago...I imagine they'll go up further yet in the coming weeks/months!!
I'm sure we've all noticed that our wages are the *only* thing that hasn't gone up!
Gas still hasn't been raised here from what I posted above......but crops in 3 huge western provinces still have to be taken off and there is a lot of land that will have to be covered to do that. We've been paying the above $3.29 (U.S.$/gallon) all summer. A minimum wage person here would lose half of his hourly pay to put 1 gallon in his tank.

isnt there anyone we can complain too?? how are people going to survive?? we are a one wage income due to i cant work. its gonna get so bad people cant live.
i am barely able to drive due to prices how am i gonna eat with kids if all this keeps happening.
i hope something gives soon or this country is gonna be in a major mess . i understand Katarina has caused alot of problems for people but people all over the usa are going hungry now too due to cant afford to eat or go to work.
i pray for the people where Katrina struck the hardest but i pray for the usa too
We are also in the middle of farm country. Lots of concern here about tractor fuel prices.
I paid $2.89 last night to fill my van, came to $83.35. That's a lot of beans!
We are probably headed for inflation nobodies seen since the 70's.
That's when the price of a new car jumped from around $3,000 to over $10,000. People still bought new cars.
Unemployment was very high then too, if I remember right.
Leaving to go sell beans & watermelons.
Bernie
Me too, imzadi. :-)
Yep Bernie everybody is truly going to hurt very badly if the prices keep going up where food, that feeds the world, is produced.
Well, we can all say it might not do any good....but we *can* contact our State Representatives/Legislators and let them know our plight...it surely can't hurt!
I just saw on the news that there are places where gas prices are over $6/gallon now. Maybe this will give us the boost we need to look toward oil alternatives? It seems as if we are approacing the attitude prevalent in the 70s, with gas-guzzling cars (now SUVs). After the fuel crisis, more efficient cars became more popular. Perhaps we'll see a change like that in the near future, too, and hopefully with some new technology.
Dana, I sure hope so, even though personally I could not afford a different vehicle. (Retired and only have social security.) We certainly have the technology and hopefully this crisis may overcome corporate profits.
I have LONG been a strong supporter of passive solar and built some houses in the early 80's before the tax breaks were discontinued. Sunlight (which equals heat) is FREE!
Well in our neck of the woods...it is $3.19....and some places...are up to $3.39...can you believe that.? Say it will go to $4.00...here...?????????? no smiles..Diana
funny, last night i decided that my hole in the ground needs to be an underground solar greenhouse instead of a hot bed/grow frame. the price of foods will be astronomical. as a society, maybe this will help us start thinking, working, and eating more locally. too much of our fuel supply goes to the shipment of goods & foods
will soon be time for us to get a horse & buggy!
heard that people around here are stealing gas, not just at the pumps, from out of cars. glad we have a watch dog, though I tend to ignore her at night. i still have gas in my van from the end of june when I last filled up. so i guess i am lucky that i haven't been able to drive since my surgery.
i just wish our population was not so dependent on fossil fuels, sigh :-(
It's amazing that we were so disappointed in the price of gas being around $1.60 back when this thread started and now it's doubled. It was at $2.89 at the cheapest place this morning here, but I am sure it won't last. I do at least 70 miles roundtrip a day (when it's DD's school, work, then home only) and did not mind it so much before. But now it's getting really pricey. I just wish my CRV came in a Hybrid.
We have no public transportation to Dallas from McKinney so I'd have to drive 16 miles (almost half of my trip) to get to the nearest bus/train stop so it's not even worth it. With bus fair, I'd only save about $2.50 a day now, but it's still tempting. I even looked up the schedule, but then I noticed the park and ride lots are already full with people spilling onto side streets a 1/4 mile away from the first converters so there is no where to park and I see the trains go by with people squeezed in like sardines.
Yuck!
They did a special on the news where the auto stores are selling out of the Locks to lock the gas caps. People are sure stealing gas and also cars here in CA.
TamaraFaye, BUY a locking gas cap, whether for just in the home driveway, or a shopping center!
i'll do that, just as soon as I DRIVE to a store LOL
Thanks for the reminder! I had gas siphoned during the last gas crises. (70s) Then, when they couldn't steal the gas anymore my tires were slashed!!! $2.96 in Whitesboro, TX.
Yesterday I had to stop at a higher priced convenience store for some gas...about 2.78 PG...I told my self I would just get a small amount as I was going into town today and would fill up...Wrong move!! the price surpassed the yesterday's price by far...2.95 at Fry's/Krogers...cheapest place in town.
I stopped at 2 grocery stores to pick up sale items...then discovered my drivers licenses would expire on Sept. 6th....so went by and renewed those......now...except for Church Sunday...I don't plan to go into town for DAYS!!
Jo
When we curtail shopping and trips away from home, what happens to the livelihood of others?
more reason to do more online. in TX you can renew your driver's license online!
even i remember the 70s crises LOL capooling, etc. walking isn't much option here, no sidewalks, roadsides un-mowed, and NO SHADE either
our posts crossed darius
i'm not driving because i can't grip with one hand & don't think it's safe. hope to drive in another few weeks
but still wishing for that horse & cart!
as far as other's livelihood, depends on who you mean. people who work for oil & gas companies are making higher wages because of the higher gas prices. low man on a rig making $25 an hour currently.
someone at a conveneience store isn't going to get laid off, because they are open 24 hrs a day, at least one clerk per shift
my mom likes to pay her local bills in person. granted it only requires less than ten miles of driving every two weeks. but this may convince her to use more stamps and a little less gas. sometimes it isn't just the bottom line of how much it saves us, or how much it inconveniences us. sometimes it is just a matter of how much gas we can NOT use
one of my mother's best friends has grounded her personal vehicle except for feeding horses and going to Dr appts. her hubby works for Phillips Conoco, they have two kids at home who are going to college. spending over $1000 a month for gas LAST MONTH. so her son is moving to an apt in Amarillo (where his college is), cheaper to live there. i wish here daughter would lay off school one semester. she is going to WT, drives a BIG pickup gas hog. 120 miles round trip, plus ny excursions normal for a person of that age who is not having to pay their own way. it's not the end of the world
i decided to save my gas for my mower by not mowing, since my son found a baby horned lizard this morning. give the little guys time to learn to move more quickly so i won't mow THEM down LOL
