Regular Gas at Chevron in CA ....2.19 per gallon

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

Dropped again here tonight, now $1.65/9tenths.

I once saw a truck stop at a Standrad station, then a Holiday, & then a Clark Super 100. Maybe he was dropping off samples!
There is a refinery up by St. Paul. Every brand you can think of comes from there.
Bernie

Lincoln City, OR(Zone 9a)

The cheapest here is still $1.97.

I have seen the trucks here delivering to all of the main gas stations. It seem strange to see a Texaco truck at a Stinker Station and then later in the day down the street at the Shell station where the same gas (obviously) is going for 9 cents a gallon more.

Taylor Creek, FL(Zone 10a)

Well, Ponditis & CG both have a point. And I have been soaked with at least one of fuels at the "Oil Can" in Va. At that time it was Amaco, now it's BP and closed. I know we had seperate systems for different fuels. Many different brand name fuel trucks were loaded there.
The fuel we all need to see come down is Diesel. Everything in my pantry traveled at least once by diesel. A box of Zesta saltines, $2.39 a box. It has to be the diesel.

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

Here is $1.57 and last week it was $ 1.67.

Lappeenranta, Finland(Zone 3a)

Oh, my, your gas is so cheap compared to Finland. Like Evert said, we pay very much money for gas, diesel sure is cheaper, but diesel cars have to pay diesel tax, and it that is why it only gets cheaper when you drive a lot.

I dont really understand why Americans have to buy those huge, huge pick up trucks. They eat some much gas, and they aren't very handy either, if you dont transfer some heavy loads. I think I saw a document about pick up trucks in America, and the man in it said that people in Texas, and all over the country, buy pick up's just for city driving.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Yes, we do. It's America's fascination with big, muscle cars and monster vehicles. We say it's for safety, excuse the extra cargo space for "necessities", but I think a lot of folks get them because they just want a big, honkin' bad a** truck. It's a status thing.

But back to gas prices....LOL

Taylor Creek, FL(Zone 10a)

Many buy big in self defense. Being in a little car surrounded by SUVs and trucks is intimidating. Some feel like they are more protected in case of an accident.
I travel for months at a time to work away from home. I put 30,000 miles on my vehicle a year. I want comfort and storage, so I have a Town and Country Van.
WE LOVE OUR CARS.
Gas $1.93

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

We have a Caddilac Fleetwood, a full size Chevy pickup, ½ ton no 4 wheel drive, & a 1 ton Dodge cargo van.
My wife was in a head-on accident in Jan of 99. She was driving a small car, now she has 2 really bad legs. One has no knee.
No more small cars for us!
Bernie

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

My youngest loves the mileage she gets with her Ford Aspire, but I cringe as she drives it on the highway with all the big vehicles. My DH has a Saturn SUV--not very big & 26 miles to the gallon highway/23 in town. My Saturn Ion gets 30 MPG on the highway but is armored well. Even hitting a small car or a deer can do damage--I just dodge EVERYTHING!

Gas was 1.49 here today.

Modi'in, Israel

Yep I agree, bigger cars are safer. Have you all SEEN the latest little car Smart Fortwo? http://www.canadiandriver.com/articles/jm/fortwo.htm It has become pretty popular here in our country with a serious parking problem. But how can a person SEE what lies ahead in heavy traffic (and there's always heavy traffic here in Israel!)? It's awfully cute. It is indeed a fun little car. And the gas mileage is out of this world! But you wouldn't catch me driving or riding in this toy car. No way!

Gas prices here are higher per liter than they are per GALLON in the States....and our wages are lower too! So next time you want to complain about paying a buck 75 for a gallon of gas, hush and just pay the man! ;-) LOL

This thread is almost a year old and maybe the gas prices have fluctuated back and forth, and some are lower now. Hopefully they will keep on going down. Thank you all for posting. I don't have an SUV, but my son does (with four children to haul around and all their groceries that is probably the only thing that can accomodate them) plus, they just now moved from Alaska to Montana, so they really need a four wheel vehicle. I can't imagine the amount of gas those things eat up either, really feel for him and all of those that really have to have them.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

I miss big old, lumbering station wagons!

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

The only reason that bigger cars are safer than little cars is because the big ones are higher and have more armour. That way, when the big ones hit the little ones, the people in the little cars get injured more, and die more often. So, by that rationale, should we all drive tanks or semi-trailers? They're the safest of all! And it would sure spur on this petroleum-based economy - an added bonus.

I feel for people who were injured in small cars colliding with bigger cars. I'm not sure, tho', that we should all just get big cars to make ourselves safer. If anything, perhaps we should all go back to small cars - it seems to work for Europeans. Otherwise there's no end to it - we'll all just want bigger, and bigger.

I agree, Shannon.

Mesilla Park, NM

This is going to sound a little silly, but, you know, that even the children nowadays are bigger.. my 14 yearold grandson is almost 6 ft tall already. I remember when kids took up a little bit of room, now they need a whole seat to themselves..lol. and not just taller, but chunkier. I thought I'd throw that into the equation since this summer the same GS was trying to move my Escort wagon around, he barely fit in those seats.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Yes, Gourd, that affects all of us... the bigger body size.

Still, we could do more to promote efficient cars rather than status cars.

Mesilla Park, NM

Yes, I agree, I tried to get my son to get something smaller (like a minivan) but he could not afford it. He bought a used SUV from another military member that was being transferred out of Montana and could not make the payments. What to do?

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Yep, we are getting bigger and our cars are getting bigger. Maybe in this context, "downsize" might not be a four-letter word! :-)

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

I paid 157.9 this morning for reg. unleaded. It was like 163.9 last week.

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

Now it go down $1.55 a gallon for a week hope it will go down some more but I don't think so for sure will go up and down.
=/

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

pooped back up to $1.75 here. No good reason----. The gas stations must have sold all they needed to get rid of before the next shipment came...

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Ready for this? Gas here in Hilo is between 2.40 and 247 a gal...

We upgraded from a Dodge Neon to a Subaru Forrester because of side airbags and a bit heavier...all the wreckless drivers here drive beefy trucks jacked up 50' high on HUGE wheels...their bumpers are higher than the Neon's windshield.

Of course it is against the law...but with only 5 police officers in our district and all the "other" crimes...someone's relative on the force always ignores it!

Mesilla Park, NM

Yeah, I saw one of those huge monster trucks that you need a ladder to get into.. My lord, here in Southern Cal, I would think you don't need anything like that, but... yet, you see them around. Maybe they use them for mountain roving.. The driver had to be about 5 feet tall, some little girl driving. One tough cookie. I can't park a regular car (well, I can) but, I am sure that this truck would be alot harder to park.

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Yes...seems they are usually driven by very small men...or maybe they look small because the tire is higher than they are. !

In a depressed economy like E. Hawaii, I don't understand how they can 1. afford the gasoline and 2. afford the tires!!!

Mesilla Park, NM

Think a gallon of gas is expensive?

This makes one think, and also puts things in perspective.
Diet Snapple 16 oz $1.29 ...... $10.32 per gallon

Lipton Ice Tea 16 oz $1.19 ...........$9.52 per gallon

Gatorade 20 oz $1.59 ..... $10.17 per gallon

Ocean Spray 16 oz $1.25 ....... $10.00 per gallon

Brake Fluid 12 oz $3.15 .......... $33.60 per gallon

Vick's Nyquil 6 oz $8.35 .... $178.13 per gallon

Pepto Bismol 4 oz $3.85 .... $123.20 per gallon

Whiteout 7 oz $1.39 ...... . $25.42 per gallon

Scope 1.5 oz $0.99 ..$84.48 per gallon

And this is the REAL KICKER...

Evian water 9 oz $1.49..........$21.19 per gallon?! $21.19 for WATER - and the buyers don't even know the source. (Evian spelled backwards is Naive.)

So, the next time you're at the pump, be glad your car doesn't run on water, Scope, or Whiteout, or God forbid Pepto Bismal or Nyquil.

Just a little humor to help ease the pain of your next trip to the pump...

By the way, the gas in Malibu is 3.15 per gallon...

2.57; 2:67 in Moreno Valley...

Yikes.. it keeps on moving...

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Thanks, Gourd. I've always been amazed at our culture....gas is cheaper than water or milk. What's up with that? :-)

Shannon

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

First in my life.. the reg. gas went to $2.08 here... Gonna to stay home often!!!!

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

When I left Central Florida Sunday morning, gas was $2.09 in Kissimmee, $2.22 in Daytona. Coming through Georgia the lowest was $1.93 and average was $2.09, about what it is here today.

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

I paid $2.O2 yesterday for regular. About a dime higher than last week.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

An expensive little station around the corner from our house had $2.20/gal up on the sign tonight. Yie.

Crossville, TN

The cheapest station in town is at $2.11....and was $2.03 when I went into town 3 days before! I'm staying home more...and that's hard for a roadrunner!! Jo

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

Gas tax in WI increases annually on April 1st by 8/10 of a cent, (They're working on a bill to call for a vote in the senate before the increase next time!) and we now have the highest gas tax in the nation.

I paid $2.30 per gallon on Saturday.

As Terry mentioned they do, we, too have to drive at least 7 miles to get to a gas station, supermarket, library, school, and I drive 30 miles one way to work.

I drive a little Nissan Sentra, but it's an older model so I only get 20 MPG (due mostly to the fact that 1/2 of my commute to work is curvy country roads.)

Edited to say that I *did* drive into Iowa that weekend to get a 'deal' on gas.....it was the same darned price!!
My wages certainly haven't risen at the ratio of gas prices!

Have to take my son to an appointment Wednesday in a town that borders Iowa, and I think I'm going to drive into Iowa and fill up! (I think it's about 10 cents less per gallon in Iowa, just by the difference in each state's gas tax.)

I'm certainly happy that I don't have to pay the price you do, Evert, but I'm curious as to the cost of living and wages in Finland as compared to the gas prices??

I know Californians pay a hefty price for gas, but I recall a couple/few years ago around the time of the 'Enron' fiasco, Californians were indicating that their electric bills had gone way up, and the amounts they were quoting were right around what we were already paying in WI, and in many cases they were still much less than our electric bills! (And I'm downright 'frugal' about electricity usage!)

'Things' are tough all over, I guess....in different ways.

My sister paid $2.37 for regular in north Florida last week coming up here. We paid an average of $2.08 in TN on our trip but it's $2.19 here at home in southwestern NC.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

I'm a homemaker right now, and I can't imagine what commuting to a job would cost me if I have to get a job any time soon. Filling up our van is a painful experience, and that's what I'd be driving. At least Howie only drives 15 minutes each way for his job, and he drives our '93 Park Avenue. It's not great on gas, but it's a lot better than the full-size van!

We paid $2.15/gal in town for regular unleaded a couple days ago.

Tulsa, OK(Zone 7a)

Tulsa is now 2.12, but in Enid where all refinerys are its 2.19!!

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Hey, if you all want to trick your minds into thinking it's ok, you can borrow our smaller metric numbers for a while.... only 94.9 cents! (per litre....lol)

Still cheaper than the same amt of water or milk, though. Boy, is our society upside-down sometimes.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Man! The very same station (in TN) where I got gas last Thursday for $2.08 was $2.19 today when I went back. It's the pits... Gas around here is now up to $2.28.

Northern California, CA

Had to laugh when I filled up yesterday.
Typical for me I was driving on fumes, having put off filling up until it was panic time.
Noted the cost per gallon, slammed the card in the pump, pushed Regular and heard the distinct sound of "kachink, kachink, kachink = $$$$$$$"

It's life, deal with it.
The tank holds 22 gallons.......it slowed at 19 gallons and continued to dribble into the tank. Hmmmmm.......
It was dribbling it in until it hit the $50 mark and cut me off! Had to laugh, I suppose I could have swiped the card again for another 2+ gallons, but I chose to sneer at the pump and walk away.

$2.54 per gallon and I didn't even get a full tank.

Decatur, IN(Zone 5a)

Regular gas here is currently $2.38 here.

L.A. (Canoga Park), CA(Zone 10a)

Something like $2.49 here, or maybe it's $2.69. All I can say is that I noticed that it was high when we were out on Saturday. Myself, if I drive 10 miles in a week, that is a lot, so I go for months without buying gas. Most of the places I need to go are within 3 miles of home. It isn't all bad living in town.
