ATTN: Ohioans & Neighbors

South Point, OH(Zone 6a)

I thought I just missed one day of getting on-line, but haven't seen this thread since 31st!. The weather has been great and there is so much weeding to be done..

Sound like the majority of us are going to try to be there for the perennial sale on Friday. I looked at the map and see that there are some small parks (harder to miss each other) in the general area. Maybe they will have picnic tables. Or do we want to try for the parking lot of a shopping mall, Franklin Conservatory or a fast food place?

Y'all who have been there before - do you have any suggestions? I could e-mail or call Demonye's and ask for ideas too.

Lupinelover, have you started some Opalka tomatoes for me? I definitely want to pick up some seeds at least this trip. Did you want more creeping thyme? and I shall check your want list. Morph, I can have the lemongrass for you there. I should have lots of clary sage volunteers, garlic chives, and other stuff.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

WB, Esther! I can come Friday, too. Howie has a chiropractor appointment at 10:30am and has to work at 3pm, so it'll just be me. I'll see if my folks are planning to go that day, too!

Ooooh, Franklin Conservatory is wonderful. A place with picnic tables or benches would be best, considering trades and those who need to be able to sit.

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

I've just got to see if I can get the babysitter... I'll be back home soon to make the call to her. Keeping my fingers crossed that things will work one way or the other :)

Grove City, OH(Zone 6a)

The conservatory would be a great place to meet. They have a shelterhouse with lots of tables in the park not far from the conservatory, so it would be easy to find each other. And the added bonus is that it is a couple of miles from DeMonye's!

What time? Since I live in the Cols area, I can be there whenever. With Morph and Badseed (I hope!!!) coming from farther away, maybe plan for mid-morning?

GardenWife, the spirea bush is waiting for you :) Want some English ivy to go with that *grin*

Esther, yes, I have Opalka seeds for you. My seedlings will probably be too small to transplant then :( I have a whole lot but they are still in the cotyledon stage.

And, yes, I do have creeping thyme if you would like some. Check the thread I started about Dividing Perennials, I am keeping my list of availables there. My lust list is there too :) Let me know what you would like, and I will keep them for you.

One last favor, if you can? I asked a question in the Ornamental Grass forum about dividing bamboo; can you find it and give me your wisdom? Please? I have a local friend who really wants a couple of rhizomes, and I need to get to work on this soon.

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

If I make it there, I've some small bamboo shoots to offer. A few inches in length if that is of any use. These have been indoors.

Grove City, OH(Zone 6a)

I have an offer:

After we are done at the plant sale, everyone is welcome to come to my home for refreshment before facing the long drive home.

I will provide chili, various homemade breads, salad, and dessert.

Hoping for great weather!

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

Just another point of view but something to consider.......would it be in your best interests to go to the plant sale first and then go to the conservatory and have the plant swap and go on to Lupine Lover's? The reason I'm saying this is that some of the perennials are not available later in the day. It takes a very long time for the nurserymen to go to the greenhouses, load more plants, drive back to the site of the plant sale and then restock the areas with plants. Some are not available again until the next day......and I say this from experience. It is true that there are plenty of perennials for everyone, but there is quite a wait for certain ones you might want to be resupplied. Sorry to be a devil's advocate, but it's just a thought. Have fun, you guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:):):):):):):):):)

Grove City, OH(Zone 6a)

Lotusblossom, you caught onto my secret! I had been plotting that if we meet at the Conservatory mid-morning, to go to the plant sale early, and get what I want before meeting the rest! LOL

I have done some preliminary scouting, and there are a huge number of all the plants that I saw. Of course there are a few new perennials since last year's sale...

I hope you can make it! I would enjoy seeing you again.

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

Hey Kathy.....guess all Cathys (or Kathys) think alike. DH says if we go to the sale before going to the conservatory it is good with him to meet all of you. I have your phone number and will call you to make arrangements with you. Maybe we could meet at the plant sale and go to the conservatory at the same time....I'm not quite sure how to get there from the greenhouse. Talk with ya soon! This will be FUN!!!!!!!!!

Grove City, OH(Zone 6a)

Of course all Kathys think alike ;D We stick together! I usually spend 2-3 hours at the plant sale, but a fair amount of it is spent resting.

Those of you coming from out of town, what time would you want to meet? Very early -- like about 7 am? Or later, like about 11 or 12? Doors open at 8.

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

Boy do I feel like a dummy!!!!!! Just talked to GW and she said that everyone was planning to meet at the plant sale anyway and then go to the conservatory. I skimmed thru the replies too fast and missed the whole thing. Sorry!

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

I mean, that was my assumption, but I wasn't certain either! Okay...So we're going to do the plant sale individually, and if we happen to cross paths great? And then we'll actually meet somewhere at an appointed time?

South Point, OH(Zone 6a)

It is starting to sound like we are all going there as early as possible on Friday. If we cannot find parking, we could do a shuttle from somewhere not too far. GW, do you know by sight all the DG people who are going to show up? (I remember the last roundup I went to, when I eyed Celia but did not approach her when we were the first two to get there.) Shall we wear name tags LOL. Of course some of us do have our mugs already displayed at the Roundup photos.

Then on to the Conservatory - and then to LupineLovers' hospitality. This sounds lovely. I would like to bring something also.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Ha! Good point, Esther. I know everyone by sight except for Morph, I think. Maybe we should each post a picture to this thread, just to be safe?

This is me:

I've been remiss at catching up on this thread. I will be coming to the sale-I wondered if all the DG people couldn't just wear a little post it note or something that says DG on it-then we would all know who's who?(I know it sounds like a kindergarden open house, but it would work)
Besides it would make all the other shoppers wonder what DG means, they might think it means we get special prices or something!LOL :)
I'll check on this thread every day from now on!

I like the idea of wearing a subtle DG tag on ourselves as Btailoring suggests ~ just because it will make it easier for us and it will likely catch the attention of other people. Then, we can talk about DGs if we want.

Here's a pix of me from my member page here at DGs:

And, here's another since I may wear my standard hat.

Hi, b! I am so happy you will be coming too!!!!

Do you know how to get to this infamous nursery?

I got it wrong; I thought everyone wanted to meet somewhere first (like the Conservatory), and then caravan or carpool over to the sale from there.

Sorry; no photo (there are a few of me around, but I HATE having my picture taken), but I will be easy to spot by my bright yellow shirt saying 'Gardens at Gantz Farm'. If it is cold, I will wear it overtop of a sweatshirt or something. I also am crippled and walk with a cane. Long blond hair.

If anyone wants to bring food to share, that would be great! I do love to cook, so am looking forward to having an excuse :)

Stockport, OH(Zone 6b)

Heh Lupine-how about if I bring earthquake cake? It's easy to transport and it's CHOCLATE!?

Grove City, OH(Zone 6a)

Oooohhhh, chocolate :) You must have noticed all of us choco-holics here ;D

(Zone 5a)

Hey lupy how about that nose, should I post it here *giggle*

Grove City, OH(Zone 6a)

You dare!!!!! I'll get you back, you know I will *evil grin*

(Zone 5a)

You know I wouldn't do it but I just wanted to get a rawl out of you lol.

Grove City, OH(Zone 6a)

Mollybee will send me her water-cannon if I ask! I just know she will ;P

Oops, got sidetracked. Sorry.

Got a message that Morph can make it!!!! Yay!!!!! Any word yet on Badseed?

(Zone 5a)

ROTFLMAO Lupy I've got a garden hose that never needs refilling lol.

Some bad news, I am not going to be able to make it so sorry.

Grove City, OH(Zone 6a)

Winddy, want to come over for the party afterward? You know you are welcome :)

(Zone 5a)

Ok, that sounds good to me.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Great! I'm so glad you can make it, Kit! :D

(Zone 5a)

How could I turn down the chance to visit with your mom and dad as well as met the rest of the gang. It's going to be real nice to see GW again and I promise I won't forget my camera and tri pod for a group shot.

(Zone 5a)

YAHOOO YA'LL!!! It's going to be up in the 60 and 70 here this weekend starting with Friday, just got the good news from the weather dude. I am doing a two step dance, afraid to do to much might break an old bone *giggle*
We couldn't ask for a better time to meet but bring a jacket just in case.

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

I am so envious of you all, the food, the camaraderie, the plants. I'm almost tempted to fly up and invade Kim and cuddle up with her babies. I said almost!! :-) Have a great day and lots of fun!!!!!

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Oh, I wish! If you ever do want to get away for a few days, you KNOW you are most welcome!

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

Kim - thank you so much. One day I really will, I promise!!

Grove City, OH(Zone 6a)

Kimberley, I have declared that somehow this summer I am going to meet with Margaret. Any ideas how to lure her here or meet her half way in between OH and VA?

Yippety doo dah about the weather forecast! Today the rain rain rain came down down down and I have a big pond in the back. Praying for some dry to enjoy the outdoors on Friday!

(Zone 5a)

Lupy it is suppose to be look at my post above.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

I'm going to just meet y'all over at Kathy's - I need to get in to see the chiropractor Friday morning and I also can't justify buying any plants yet since we have so much we need to do to even be *ready* to plant new ones.

For once, I'm being responsible. (shock!)

But I wouldn't miss visiting with you all for ANYTHING...So what time's the party? I should be out of the chiropractor's by 11am at the latest. =D

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Sorry to be a party pooper, but there is no way I can do Friday. Besides me having to work the night before and of, hubby has to work that day and three of the kids have school. We are also having some medical issues with our three year old but hope to have answers soon. I hope you all have a great visit. Know that I will be thinking of you and missing you. Hugs!!

(Zone 5a)

I am sorry that you can't make it and I do hope your baby will be ok.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Oh bummer, Chele. I think we're going to have to converge on y'all some time in the next couple of months...Gotta have a Seed fix. :) Hope your baby is okay, too!

Grove City, OH(Zone 6a)

How about those of us who want to hit the sale early can get there on our own; then we converge either at the nursery or at my house around 1 pm. That ought to give everyone a good chance to choose the plants we want, as well as giving us some time to talk if we meet at DeMonye's. That is a definite must!

Louisa, you have mail :) Silly me, something just occurred to me late last night after Chat.

For those who need my address and a map, e-mail me and I will give you directions. I live about 10 miles from the nursery.

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

I'm praying for your baby too Badseed.

Not sure if I can make it to Kathy's or not. DH and I are going to the plant sale in the morning and then have to go to our attorney's office. It was unforseen and unplanned but he called and wanted us in his office Friday afternoon for DH's BWC rating. There is a deadline and Friday afternoon was the only time the attorney had open to see us.

I will wear a name tag at the plant sale and watch out for all of you with tags on. See you there.
