How many ponders are out there????????? List your names.

Seymour, IN(Zone 5b)

Add me in your list. We have a pond and have built a small stream thru the yard that connects to the pond. Lou

New Albany, MS(Zone 7a)

I still say we need a special trade forum just for waterplants this year. As many watergardeners as we have, I think it would go over great. DAVE PEASE???????

Catoosa, OK(Zone 7a)

I'm trying to have a pond. I have the hole and the liner, a few plants and three fish. Now if I could just get it to look like all of the pictures that I see posted.....
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
:-)

Dearborn, MI(Zone 5b)

This is the fourth season for our small pond. The fish and frogs again survived the winter (with the help of a heater), and the water is clear. However, the string algae is the worst I've ever seen, so as soon as the water warms up some, I'll be wading again.

Kingston, OK(Zone 7a)

Kneff On another thread I saw where you could use Hydrogen Perxoide @ one bottle per 1000 gal's.For string alge.

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

Boy, talk about being late!!!! I just noticed this thread. We have two ponds, both of which have a smaller pond with a waterfall running into them. About to put in another pond too accomodate a beautiful lotus I'm trying to grow from a corm.

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

Oops! Thinking of my irises. I meant to say that I'm starting a lotus from a tuber, Should be able to put it in the pond mid May or so.

Needville, TX(Zone 9a)

Im a pond'er too.......

Kentwood, LA(Zone 8b)

Count me in also.

Lincoln City, OR(Zone 9a)

Wow welcome all of you! So nice to "meet" so many ponders.

Fort Edward, NY(Zone 5a)

Count me in...Our pond is only about 100 gallons, but it is my favorite spot in our garden.

montgomery, AL(Zone 7b)

Huggles our pond is only 50 gallons but we really enjoy it & our 3 small fish. It is one of the prettiest spots in the garden.

Summerville, SC(Zone 8b)

What Plants are blooming in your ponds. I have had two Unnamed Water Lilies blooming (white) and the Helvola twice now.

Our Bull Frogs are going crazy...they are so excited.

As usual, our algae is once again happening. Must get out the pumps and get going here. I grow mainly water lilies and most of them do not like moving water. So we try to
pond with very natural means.

Or...perhaps I am too lazy?? :-)

We have been trying to bring up and divide most of our
300 water lilies the past few weeks. This is why I have not posted very much.

Happy Water Gardening to all!

I would like to ask a guestion. Does bullfrogs eat small fish? I was told this and we removed them from our goldfish pond back to the two stock ponds we have.

Arkona, ON

How do you divide water lilies?

Lincoln City, OR(Zone 9a)

BusyBee, bullfrogs WILL eat your small fish if they will fit in their mouths.

halcanada, there have been threads on how to divide waterlilies. You might do a search to find them or email me privately and I will explain how to do it OR start a new thread with your question and any one of us will answer you.

Kentwood, LA(Zone 8b)

Thanks Ponditis, I was enjoying hearing him croak. One of our large stock ponds is close enough to hear them without them being in the yard, besides I am looking forward to the goldfish babies.

Arkona, ON

Thanks, will start a thread, hope no one minds. Still finding my way around DG.

Summerville, SC(Zone 8b)

Dividing Water Lilies.
We do this every 6 months during their growing season. We bring the pots up, turn the entire plant out of the pot and spray the roots with warm water...normally you can have 6 to 12 new plants from one year old water lily. The Hardy's
normally have tubors that grow...and you will see mini water lilies starting all along. Just cut every few inches and start in much small pot and shallow water.

The mini water lilies have bulbs all around their mom plant and we take those and put in small 5 inch pots...and put just an inch below the water level...to make sure we are giving them the attention they need.

All Aquatics need the Plant Tabs...which ever one you like or have available.

This website has the best info:

montgomery, AL(Zone 7b)

We had to leave for a week.. when we left our ponds were green & had been for a few weeks. I'm sure the plant tabs did it as they were clear before I used them.. Well when we got home they were CLEAR.. sure glad I didn't dump it & start over :)

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

I'm TRYING to join the ponders!~ LOL Great fun to learn a new gardening medium!

Lindale, TX(Zone 8a)

Count me in. I have an above ground water feature on the deck. It is a cattle watering trough made of rubber like material. I have papyrus, some grass, one water-lily and six fan-tail goldfish. I have a small pump with a small center fountain. An in-ground pond is on the wish-list.

Hi,
We've had a pond for about ten years. We've had raccoons and wild ducks in it, dogs swimming in it, grandchildren "accidentally" falling in it, and we call it the "money pit", but we love it. Donna, Spanish Springs, Nevada

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

kc8lcw, what a lovely pond. I live in newark and have five small ponds. Would like it if you could come over sometime. We are practically neighbors. I come in to see LupineLover and Windsurffer in Grove City and we have a lot of fun. It's nice to know garden prople in the area so we can visit. Email me if you can come in some time. You are welcome any time.

Have had a pond for 15 yrs. Love my Koi.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Please add my name to this long list of ponders. Ours is only @ 120 gal. but provides us much joy (it rests at the base of our wheelchair ramp/deck). DH and I dug it in, hoping our children would love it--WE love it! Here is a picture from 2 yrs. ago.

Count me in for one, hopefully two real soon.

Well...I was just browsing thru here again and this is the only time I can read what you all have been up to (BTW, this is not Troy...He's at work and finally NOT on the computer...LOL)I came across the thread on who's a ponder. That's me. I wasn't surprised that Troy didn't mention our pond. It's kind of like the chicken who grew the wheat story. I dug the hole, bought the pond, filled it, put the fish & plants in, keep the filter clean, blah blah blah...and Troy likes to sit on the bench and throw feed to the fish when he remembers! LOL What a contributor! Now, a question to skywarrior. I think I read that you have a Louisiana Black Iris/sweetflag iris. I have a plant I'm guessing is the same. The guy I got it from called it a Louisiana Swamp Iris. It just bloomed this year 3 days ago (SouthCentral PA). I'm kinda partial to this plant. GORGEOUS deep purple iris. I moved here from Louisiana a while ago, and I love to remind Troy that, thanks to my visual proof (the iris), EVERYTHING that comes from Louisiana is breathtakingly beautiful!!! At this point he has other thing s to do somewhere else in the yard. Out of hearing distance...Anyway, i hope you all don't mind my occasionally bopping in . I learn so much from you all and rarely get the chance to say thanx! So, THANX!-Brian

Nashua, NH(Zone 5b)

Me too....

Looks Pretty Deep.

Lincoln City, OR(Zone 9a)

wow it is great that all of you are finding your way to DG. Brian, it is great to hear from you the brains and brawn behind the pond. And it will be great to see some of you post questions and comments on your ponds and maybe even some more pictures in other threads. This thread is getting mighty long now but I hate to see it split.
