Best & Worst, what did I learn today.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Beautiful dogs, both Luca & Verity! Oh gosh, sorry that the insemination didn't "take". If I were to get a dog, these are ones I consider, so beautiful!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Susan, you have so much going on. Sorry this Scotland trip didn't work out.
Pat, you have been busy too.
Deb, your dogs are beautiful. Sorry to hear the pregnancy didn't take.
Happy birthday Pat. Hope you have a wonderful day.
I turned 70 last Friday. There are days I feel much older.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

We're the same age Linda, and I agree. Sometimes I feel OLDER, like today. I am still battling the snake grass and sifting rock. It's tedious work, then carrying it in buckets to the front area is NOT knee friendly work.
Deb, not a dog breed I would consider. Too expensive for me AND I am sure it's a LOT of work to keep that long hair groomed and combed.
Susan, the driving longer won't be a problem for you. Just take breaks, you got this.

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

Then the 3 of us all have birthdays in the same month! I turned 70 on June 5.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

WOW, you June babies!
All 70 years old? I turned 71 March 11th. Aha - listen to your "elders" - ME!!! LOL
My tour agent emailed me today, saying that she'll call me tomorrow. I had told her that I couldn't take a Sept trip to Scotland because she wanted final payment July 15th, and I don't get my funds from the sale of my home until August 1st. Maybe she'll try to make other date payment arrangements, I don't know. I DO know that I don't want to take out a credit card to pay the invoice 2 1/2 weeks before I get the funds.
Just spoke to the apartment manager about my heavy sewing machine table & apparently as long as it's not on an outside wall, I'll be able to hang it in my sewing room on an inside wall, so I'm pleased about that.. Still haven't found homes for the budgies or fish. They'll send me an auto-withdrawal form for me to fill out & they'll take my rent the first of every month.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Deb, happy belated birthday. Nice to know we all have June birthdays.
Hopefully you can figure something out for your trip Susan.

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

Heading to GA tomorrow morning for dog shows. I hope the rain clears up, we got a good soaking last night and it's supposed to rain most of the day today. It will be a quick trip, but, I'll get to catch up with some friends I haven't seen in a while, and it will be nice to just hit the road again!

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Good to hear about your dog show Deb. Good luck in the show ring. Happy belated birthday.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Praying the rain stopped, and you had an awesome dog show.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Marie's quilts that I finished the longarm & bindings on.

Ladies - question, are used Long Arms around $22,000????
Lovely quilts, Pat :)

I was going to have a Yard Sale on Saturday (noon to 4) and first, lots of rain, then no rain, then rain in the morning until 9am, now it's ONLY in the afternoon. Maybe I'll do it Sunday afternoon, after church.........
Trip to Scotland - she wants to book a May 16, 2026 trip & get me to send a deposit NOW, 10 1/2 months before the trip. I just spent $1,749.00 on my car. Chuck will pay for the Safety. I am also paying rent here & in Winnipeg. I sent her an email telling her about my expenses & that I WON'T have the funds until August, NOT now. I've told her this before.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

I just got the BEST news!
Yesterday making that huge bill for my tires, etc, plus paying rent in new place & current place made for a TIGHT budget. Just now my new management called to see if I would accept having my possession date when I actually arrive near the end of July and only pay for days I live there. HURRAY! I was going to have minimal $$ left for the month, and now I can relax.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Beautiful quilts Pat.
Susan, prices on used longarms vary. Depending on age and type.
Glad to hear you are saving money.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Also a lot depends on if it's manual or computer driven. The ProStitcher program on our set up contributed 11K to the purchase price. We have a Regalia (Baby loc) machine on a Kinetic 10 foot frame, that plus the software was 28K new and included set up.
Thanks, Marie did a good job. I wish she was not so "Not good enough". Yes, it was not perfect but as you can see, they are beautiful!

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

Great news on the saving money, Susan.
Beautiful quilts, Pat!
Got home from the shows late yesterday afternoon. A very good trip. My boy Hamish was shown by a friend of mine, he was given an Award of Merit at one show, and was Best Male at the second. Plus, I got to catch up with a bunch of friends I hadn't seen in almost a year. Today, I need to get the car unloaded and laundry done, and get ready for a short week at work.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Hamish is sure beautiful Deb! What are your plans for him?

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Hamish is a handsome boy! No wonder he got the awards. IMO this is my favourite breed of dog. Gorgeous

I'm ramping up my packing/tossing/selling. Yesterday it rained, starting at 2:30, but settled down at 3:30. In the meantime I got soaked putting stuff away. I used a deck box I've sold as storage (locked) until I get rid of more stuff. It was handy to toss everything in - doesn't leak. She'll wait for it, until I'm finished with my yard sales.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Congratulations on the wins Deb. He is beautiful.
Susan, sounds like you are busy. When is your move in day.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Three weeks............. and still haven't found homes for the budgies or fish

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Susan, I'll bet no homes for the pets is weighing heavy on your mind. What /where have you reached out and can you think of any more places that might yield a lead on a good home??
Are you afraid to making a Marketplace or Craigs list? Have you posted down at the Senior center or other gathering places?

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Marketplace won't allow the sale of any live pets. I've contacted the senior centre nearby & they said I'll get a call on Wednesday, after Canada Day.
You're right, it's weighing heavily on my mind.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Can you advertise free pets? Are you willing to give them away?

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

I'm sorry to hear about your problems rehoming your pets. Have you reached out to the pet shop where you got them? Is there maybe a bird rescue group that might help. I never realized there was such a thing until a friend told me she was volunteering at one.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Pet shops won't take either. I checked.
DeAnn called me last night & told me that one of our friends is willing to take the birds, just needs to talk to her boyfriend and she said someone is willing to take the fish. That would be so great. I called the Lodge I spoke to 2 weeks ago yesterday & someone will contact me on Wednesday.
I'm hopeful.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

A bird rescue is a new one on me too!

HOT here. It reached 100 and it will be hotter today. Thank goodness for A/C. I leave for my oldest son's on Thursday. They have their "Honey Do list" for me. Every trip they discuss & generate a list of projects. They are funny. Not a DYI bone in their bodies. They both HATE outdoor work, so I usually do the annual Maintenace. Son reminded me to bring my weedeater.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

get your oldest son to PAVE his lawn, so there's no lawn to maintain lol What's the annual maintenance?

Someone's coming on Thursday to pick up the aquarium & fish - hurray! Maybe the birds, too.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

That's such a relief to have your pets potentially rehomed!

His prior house, the whole front area was rock and cement circle drive. I literally worked on that every year to kill the wild rose, volunteer Japanese elm & other assorted stuff. We got it completely covered with rock, and he had (and still does with renters there) a maintenance contract with a company to spray for weeds.

I clear the area around his A/C unit, spray chemicals to keep the weeds down. If the blackberries have tried to take over the shed (again), I prune them back. Last year I replaced the rotting steps into the shed. They just had a new door created for the crawl space under the house and that needs to be primed and painted. They don't know it yet but I'm going to prime and paint the interior door of the guest room. It's looked bad since they bought the place.

I will be off the computer, off line etc, until AT LEAST Tuesday, maybe longer. I will be home no later than Tuesday but Marie volunteered us to cook lunch for 80 people on Wednesday. I've given her the grocery list. I guess if she doesn't follow thru she will be ordering chicken from Winco. (I think THAT would be a stellar idea, lasgna for 80 is a lot of work!)

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Lunch for EIGHTY! omgoodness!!
Sounds like you're both going to be busy. Yours will be spread out, but what chores for both of you!

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

That's a lot of work, Pat! I hope they appreciate all that you do.
It must be a relief to know that your pets are potentially rehomed. You must be super busy, too, Susan!
Home from work today. The compressor on my fridge started making an awful racket yesterday. Went out and bought a new one before this fridge dies. They're going to deliver it today. Of course, they can't tell you when, so I took the day off, and this morning they texted and said they'd be here between 3:30 and 6:30, so I could have gone to work, I'm home by 2:45 every day. They're supposed to call me about half hour before they get here, so it will be a rush emptying of the old fridge. I've only got one ice chest, but, I have a couple of laundry baskets lined with quilts which should hold the temperature for a short time.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

No word on re-homing my budgies, but the fish & aquarium are gone.

Deb - guess you got a day off, not a bad deal lol
Hope the new fridge comes quickly within the time span they gave you so you can refill the new one & relax. Will they take away the old one?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Happy 4th of July everyone.
Pat, you always are on the run or doing something. I couldn't imagine cooking for that many people.
Susan, I hope you find a home for the birds.
Appliances sure don't last like they used to. They are so expensive too.

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

I hope the flooding I'm hearing about in Texas is nowhere near you, LindaKay. It sounds horrible. I can't imagine what the parents of those kids at camp are going through.
This last fridge was only 6 years old, and the compressor went. This new one is an LG, which has a 10 year warranty on the compressor. They showed up around 3:30, and managed to ding both the fridge and freezer doors bringing it in. I was told the doors would be replaced. I don't understand why they didn't just remove them to get through the doorway.
I hope a home turns up for the budgies.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

We are safe, and hours from the flooding areas. It's so sad so many have died, and many more still missing.

I seem to have lost this thread

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

I had a long post yesterday and lost it before I got it posted.

I had a good time at son & DIL's. I got lots of work done & I am happy to be HOME. The pets nearly drove Marie crazy. Jealous possessive pets don't like to share! I had the same issue when Marie was out of town a few weeks ago.

Deb, the frigerator door situation was avoidable and stupid. Sorry to hear you have to deal with it.
Linda, glad the flooding was FAR from you. I have just been reading about it.
Susan, I hope your birds are safely rehomed soon.
today will be all about getting as much done as possible to prepare for the lunch tomorrow.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Today I'm going through boxes from the shed - mostly Christmas decorations. I think I'll get rid of at least 1/2. The tree's gone to Silver Willow.
I did a lot of clearing the shed. Things for the Yard Sale this Saturday are either side of the entrance to the shed, so I can go right to the back of this HUGE shed. I found the bin of my summer clothes, so I have a floor length summer dress on now. Good thing, because it's going to 29c (84F) today, & sunny, so it'll be very warm.
This afternoon the Wellness group are going to a restaurant called Old English in Delbourne. Looking forward to it. I have until 2:00 to do stuff at home, then it's off to Wellness.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Glad to hear you are back home Pat..
Susan, sounds like you are getting things in order.
Finally found homes for all the puppies, all the new owners are so happy with them.
I miss them, but glad they have new homes.
Lizzy will be fixed early September. No more puppies.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Happy to know that your puppies have new homes. It'll be quiet around there with them gone though.
My home is SUCH a mess. Hate living in this. Had a great time on the train yesterday. Yard sale again tomorrow.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

I HATE hosting yard sales! Living in the middle of preparing to move is the PITS!
Linda, those puppies are so sweet and I know you will miss the lit' stinkers!
Deb, I hope all is well with you and your and your dogs.
Stillwood, I am sorry I forgot your name! Welcome back, the threads are NOT as easy to find with the new format.

Madison, AL

I finally think I have figured out the newest way. I suppose the administrators have reasons for changes they make. I dislike change but the world is constantly changing, especially technology. It is no longer necessary for me to understand the details of new stuff. Just let me understand enough to make it do the limited demands of my interest. I am an old lady in a complicated world.
