The storm was a bust. But that is a good thing. The small community, 20 minutes away from my home, in the mountains, got slammed. 9" of rain and major flooding. We had a nice steady rain and no wind. The wind was my major concern.

Betty, I cannot believe he is already 2. He is getting big and looks so happy. Yes Betty, the guards take good care of me. When Vern was alive and he would fall, they would immediately come to the house and help get him up. And thy always joked with him about being on the floor and why was he on the floor. That approach made Vern feel better.

I sent Betty something last night near 9 o'clock my time and she answered me right back. Said she was up tight about shooting. I could totally understand.

Karen, so pleased you were able to meet Emmett Kelley Jr.

Pat, how is Marie doing? You have had your plate full but will find time soon to sew.

Linda, thinking of you and your sister.

Susan, you are quiet today.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Betty Emmett Kelley Jr. and all his family before are very famous actual circus clowns. I don't think he is still a circus performer now. I remember seeing him at the circus. Thanks to those stupid scary movies, clowns now have gotten a bad rap.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I hot a text a few hours ago, that my Sis has asked for morphine, 3 separate times today, she doesn't eat but a bit or two. And naturally with the morphine, she sleeps most of the day. Hospice nurse will be there tomorrow for her weekly visit. If things are getting worse, I was promised a phone call so I can get a flight booked.

Lizxie is getting more active, and eating like a little pig. We brought home leftover ribs from the restaurant. Put a few tiny pieces in the tray, and she went crazy.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Linda/ taters55, Lizzy is soooo pretty and looks like velvet! Does she feel as good as she looks?? I am glad the RN is keeping you updated on your sister.

Thanks for the update on Betty, good to know she is Ok, just shook up over the shooting. I hope she can feel safe again soon, what a scary event.

Sharon, it's not been a lack of time that has prevented me from sewing.. There are many hours I am just sitting and reading or wasting time on the internet. I just have not set down to do it. Same with the last bit of painting I need to do. I've invited company for Thursday night, so maybe I'll get to it yet!

Karen/ siliolegma, I think some of those kinds of movies that tainted clowns also created the "dolls are creepy" attitude that some kids have.

Marie is doing ok. Not to say there won't be any further bad days but on the whole, she is moving forward. I've been trying to help her sort out and rehome unnecessary things. Phil drank Vanilla Premier Protein, it was frequently difficult to find, so when we could, we would buy several cases. I got that moved out of their house & rehomed to the family that so generously assisted us in the kitchen at the luncheon. She tells me she is doing more thrift store shopping as a way of avoiding stress eating. She's lost weight the last 2 weeks so I guess that is working for her.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Pat, I do agree about the dolls too. I grew up loving my dolls. I didn't necessarily play with them but I did keep them around. My mother always worked so from aga 11 we no longer had a sitter and I was in charge of house and my sisters. At 15 my great granny died. My mom and aunt went to WV for funeral and I also took care of 6 month old cousin for the week they were gone. Married at 16 so basically went from dolls to babies.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Beautiful fall day here, might be the time to get out and do some deadheading and cutting down taller plants..that ought to take care of flowers and nothing but green.

Arianna will be here at 9 for her lesson but I thought i could drop in with a hi

Yes, I’m still feeling shaken.

that is a lot of morphine Lindakay, great that they no longer let patients in their final hours suffer. Wow, look at that pup, soon will be full grown.

Karen when I looked him up online they kept showing pieces of crafted clowns, must have been of him as model.

I bought wrong frame for Grayson’s sketch, Sharon is suppose to return frame i bought and get a larger one, opening 8x10, do you think I can make her understand what I want..told her to leave it and I will run to Barrie tomorrow and get one. ten times in every way I explained, last time I said if you had a photo with 1/2 inch larger around the 8x10 photo, so would you understand??

Here is my student, got to go.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Betty - a shooting in the neighbourhood is certainly shake-worthy. I'm not surprised you're still shaken.
Pat - you always have my prayers re: Marie. Glad she's feeling some comfort from the morphine. I know that you're feeling comfort about it, too.
I'll be stepping up my sewing - 5 lap quilts. The clothing has been dis-assembled and in piles, but not cut into pieces yet. I think the flimsy material needs to be backed on cotton, using fabric spray glue.

I was away all day yesterday - tired. Started at 8:30 going to set up for coffeetime at the Senior's centre, then off with Dianne to Red Deer for a bunch of shopping. It's an hour each way from home, I pretty much crashed when I got home @ 6pm. Did a lot of walking through Costco, Pennington's, etc. Got fitted for a new bra - a sports bra, of all things lol We also went to Krazy Binz (wholesale clearance)
Going to dye my hair a dark burgundy..

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Lizzies fur is very soft. She loves to cuddle when she is getting tired. Other parts of the days all she wants to do is chew. On her toys, shoe laces, toes..

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7b)

Hello ladies! I had to do a lot of reading to catch up on things. It was nice learning about all the different things we all enjoy & collect, very interesting indeed, we could probably combine our stuff & set up a nice little shop of collectibles! The one that stood out the most to me was “frogs”, I love that, I don’t collect frogs but I absolutely love them. While growing up, there were several locations on the farm, in a shallow part of the river, that every spring, you would see tons of frogs in all the stages of their development, from tiny tadpoles to large fat tadpoles, without legs with legs, to numerous baby frogs & more jumping all around you.

Be back in a few!

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7b)

Back now, had to go put another pot of beans on for dinner, told y’all we love our beans. I haven’t had it in a long time, but while growing up my mom used to mix up leaf lettuce & young green onions & then just as we were about to eat she’d pour hot bacon grease on it, so yummy, gonna have to make some. Isn’t it called kilt lettuce, think so?

I meant to attach a pic of my tree frog with my last post, I attached it here, cute little thing. That frog collection made me think of it. You can nearly see through its front paw. I read somewhere on here that one of you mentioned having a parakeet, how friendly is it? Do you ever let it out of the cage or does it fly around in your house? I used to know someone that let theirs eat out if their food bowls sometimes, fly throughout their house, & go on trips with them in their cars, it would walk on the steering wheel.

Pretty day outside, been doing some gardening, have a pot of Siam tulips at my front door, another plant I will have to overwinter inside, the things we do for flowers.

Thumbnail by hollow Thumbnail by hollow Thumbnail by hollow
(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Linda/taters55, I can just see Lizzy chew, chew, chewing until she is tired and then seeking you out for warmth & loves when she is ready for a nap! Stanley has chewed my shoelaces in half. I have caught him chewing on electrical cords but NOT frequently & so far nothing damaged, but it scares me! He is a wholly terror when he gets the zoomies & is very capable of knocking off things. He is amazingly tenacious when he wants something like getting in closets or tight spaces etc.

Yeah Betty, I would not bet the farm on getting the right frame if someone else buys it!

Karen/ siliolegma, you did not get much of a "childhood". You were parenting at the age of just 11. It is a beautiful miracle that you & Walt found each other and created such a wonderful life together. A cycle broken & new loving legacy of love created. Sometimes it makes me so sad that I did not/ could not? connect with my grandkids while they were here. This certainly did not turn out the way I had hoped.

Forest/ Hollow, your Siam tulips are beautiful. I will have to look those up. Did you buy them already potted or grow them from bulbs? Do you treat them like ready tulips?

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7b)

Pat, I bought my Siam tulips at Home Depot just a few weeks back, they were so pretty I couldn’t resist. It looks much prettier when I had it placed at my garage because of the white background, think I might move it back there. I’d never grown it before, looked it up & learned it’s part of a ginger family so it’s not actually a tulip, its a curcuma, it’s been blooming for the past 3 weeks & has several new stems coming up to bloom. It’s growing well with very little sun & likes to be kept a little moist. I absolutely love it, well worth the $16 spent on it.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Hollow, My mother from WV made that salad called it a wilted salad.
I did miss having much of a childhood but it served me well when i married young and had my own household to care for. When babies came I was well prepared to care for them. My maternal grandmother was my strength. I knew she always loved me. Her and my aunt Bonnie.I still have my aunt and I am thankful for every day I do.

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7b)

Karen, what part of WV did your mother live, is that where you grew up? I grew up in a very small town in southwest VA, in Honaker, although I think it has grown some by now, it actually has 1 traffic light. The farm was way back in the country, about 8 miles from Honaker.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Can’t sleep, Kyle sent me a message that Jamie passed away at 9:30pm.

Laying here think8mg how tragic it is for those 7 children, 3under 6, 2nd marriage, the older children from 1st wife, think she is in her mid 30’s, and Jammie mid 40’s..sad..

Also heard my neighbour Jean from the lake passed, she was 97, was still getting to the legion to play cards except for last month.

My Cousin Doreen’s funeral is September 8th. She had a hard life, she had 1 son, on graduation night going to prom he got a ride with friends, friend just got his license, rolled truck when he hit shoulder and her son passed, about 10 years or so her hubby who drove a propane tanker got hit and his truck exploded..so much sadness in her life.

Sorry for all my tales of sadness, not a night for sleeping..

Karen, the Lord blessed you with Walt and your family, not a wonder you are so close.

Love your little tree frog Forrest, i used to hear them all the time but haven’t last few years..love, love your tulip plant. Look at those trumpets, can you leave them in the ground year round..one of my plants has 12 flowers ready to bloom, think they are yellow, those in ground did much better than those in pots.

Lindakay, best you hide every shoe, Lissie will have a hard time breaking the habit..think once they start chewing shoes you can’t break the habit.. bet she doesn’t leave your side, a great comfort..how was your sister today?

Is it a memory piece you are doing Susan? I could embroider a piece with a saying on it to include in it if it is.could mail it to you!

Pat, again, Marie is so lucky to have you watching over you. You’ve had so much to contend with these past months, not a wonder your body is telling you to shut down for awhile.

Dianne, did your wood come yet? Did you enjoy this glorious fall day?

Deb, the photo’s you are posting has me in awe, the pups have grown so much.

Well think I will try this sleep thing, doubtful though

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Betty, I am sorry to hear about Jammie. Did they ever find out WHY he was shot? I am assuming Deb is posting pics on Facebook? Tell her we need pics HERE!!

Forest/ Hollow, thanks for the info on the flowers. I will have to look into them, they are soooo pretty!

Karen/Siliolegma, by the time you got married you had been running a household for years!

Crazy kind of day here. I brought home a huge dresser mirror last night. I got help getting it off the truck and onto my dresser. Then the 2 teens helped me pick up a bigger desk to replace the one I just painted and build a printer stand for.

The newly painted one It did not have a pull-out shelf and it just was too small. Stanley kept jumping directly up on the desk top and running across the computer. He is used to having a pullout to sit on & be near me. I have a lot of work to do on this desk before it is useful and attractive, lots of to repair & replace.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Lizzie is such a wonderful cuddle when she wants to be. Other times she is full of it. I take her outside 30 minutes after she eats. Most if the time she goes potty outside. Other times, just as soon as she comes back in. The joys of potty training a puppy. Keeps me busy.
Hallow, thanks for the photos. Lovebthst little frog, and those tulips are beautiful.
Betty, so sorry to hear about your neighbor passing. Saying prayers for the family.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Betty - I feel your sadness over the miles, and wish I could give you a big ole hug!
I'm doing 5 memory lap quilts. For the widower & their 4 adult kids. At least I have the fabric. His name is Cecil, and her name was Ruby. I don't know the "kids" names. What a lovely thought, to embroider labels for the quilts. I'll take you up on your offer :)
Right now, I'm exhausted. This afternoon I set up for cribbage at the Seniors Centre, and tomorrow morning I'm going to a Zoom Grant Writing Workshop with Dianne at her place. She's never done a Zoom meeting, so I'll go to show her how.

I was Pat, by then I had 5 years experience. I was basically raised a generation ahead of my sisters. All my aunts and uncles treated me as the youngest sister. That never changed. By the same token, My dads family felt that my middle sister was their first grand and pretty much ignored me. That's why I'm so happy to now be close with my only cousin on that side. We hardly ever saw each other growing up. We are having fun catching up.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Forgot to show off my hardy hibiscus. All our rain is really been good for it.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Beautiful hibiscus plants Karen.
Susan, good luck with your quilts.
If you have flimsy fabric you are working with, get some fusible interfacing and iron it on the back of the fabric. Makes it much more manageable.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

hadn't thought of using fusible interfacing. I may have some of that. I also have a roll of something that looks like it, for hemming? It's about 1" wide, so maybe it's that "no sew" stuff for seams.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sounds like wonder under.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Yes, Susan/Tullulah, it certainly does sound like the hem tape stuff, . "Wonderunder" being one of the brands.

I switched up the computer room, put in the bigger desk. That meant changing the location of the bed and where the desk sits. I need to repaint & repair the desk but NOT today. I will be really relieved when all this change up/ decide stuff is done. I not a person who likes change for the sake of change.

Praying all are safe and secure with you my friends. Linda/ Taters55, I pray your sister is having a good day.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Light rain, will be great for the gardens. Part of the day I’ve got heat on and the other a/c

Those are beautiful Lindakay, is the soil any better where you are now ?? Hope Kathy had a good day.

Jami must be saying he is ok..biggest rainbow surrounding his pizza place “Bubba’s Pizza)

Full day today, Adele and Lily cam at 9:30-noon, grandma bought them all the fixings to do 120. 7” Santa socks, fabric, red fur and iron oats, exactly 1/2 c goes in each..we worked on patter, showed them how to put fur on one side of boot, fill sock with iron oats, sew, turn over fur and voila a Santa’s sock..the grandmother dies dinner for a large needy group so the girls will set up and hand one to each person attending.. really quite nice. Wish I had taken a photo,..madeleine also finished the bag she was making i,e, like the one most of you got from me.. will take photos another time..

Then Maddy came, managed to finish her 1st sewing project, a single size quilt, she quilted it on my frame and today she put binding on it,, she left at 3.. i am done in.

Was going to work on Grayson’s photo but doing so when tired is not good so I will get up early tomorrow and work on it..best I push myself as it has to be framed by Saturday.

Hi everybody. I've been off line for quite awhile. Bell Canada is not my friend.

I'll go back now and catch up on everyone's news.

Betty I was so saddened to read of Jamie's death. I know he was very good to you.

Love the puppy LK.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, so glad to see your angel trumpets are blooming. Very pretty.
So far Sis is hanging in there. Hospice nurses increased her meds, as the pain is increasing. She hardly eats anything, as she does have an appetite.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Dianne, know that Roger’s isn’t that much better, if not worse.
Are you getting this lovely fall weather?

Sorry to hear your sister is needing higher meds, sad the pain cancer patients must endure.

Not sure what is the matter with Ziggy, keeps nudging me to pet him..

Those alert cameras take a lot of getting used to, keeps sending me notices Re front and back deck movement, front is wind moving the stained glass windows, the back flower movement…wondering how long I will keep them online

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

Sorry I've been missing. I have been keeping up with all the posts, and sending prayers and healing thoughts to those needing them. Puppies are getting bigger. First one heads to his new home in a week. I'll drive him about half way. It will be sad to see them go, through, so far, only two have definite homes.

Betty, that is a nice thought regarding the rainbow.

Deb/ Momcat The puppies are soooo cute, it would be tough to pick a favorite based on just looks. The pic of the puppy chewing is adorable! I know I could not breed & sell animals, I would get too attached. You really got a wide range of colors in this litter!!

Dianne/ Kidneyguy, good to see you back.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

I did a lot of cutting back today and thinning out of some ivy. Also thinned my weeping mulberry tree and castor beans. I have several large piles for the landscape crew to pick up tomorrow. this is all in the back landscape. Tomorrow will be the front landscape. Just some trimming to do there also. I do it because I want it done the way I want it and they pick it up for me. He uses a photo of my front landscape on his website. He has been with me for over 10 years.

We had two big storms blow through here but none hit my area. Just South of me. But the storms did cool it down. We will be returning to triple digit temperatures this weekend. But the humidity will be leaving.

Betty, so sorry abut Jamie. Have they caught who did this yet? Many stores in the states are closing because they just cannot control the organized shoplifting. The quilt your student made looks great. I bet the Santa items will be a hit.

Pat, I am still working on my neighbors plants and containers. I will never do that again. I am making it harder than it is. Glad you found a new desk you think you will like. It is always fun to make it better your own way.

Dianne, so pleased you made it back. I have not experienced no internet yet, but there will probably be a time. I barely watch TV anymore.

Linda, so hope the morphine helps your sister with the pain.

Deb, those dogs are fantastic. Such beautiful differences. I cannot wait to see how they look when they get older.

I again got on here late but had a very good day and Emma and I are very pleased with ourselves. As I say to myself, "We kicked butt today".

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7b)

That new puppy, Lizzy, oh how cute, I remember those puppy days, potty training & chewing. I have a playpen I use for that, I think it has 8-10 sections, you open it up & it makes a 5 ft area for the puppy to play. I have a piece of linoleum flooring that I keep under it while training. I also encourage my puppy to use either a potty pad or to go outdoors to potty. It’s always worked for me, but each puppy is different. The key thing to do is take it out often & before you think it needs to go.

Those hibiscus flowers are beautiful. I’ve noticed that some of my white & my red hibiscus flowers have hybridized & now I have some light pink ones. It’s amazing what plants can do. Taking care of children or almost anyone will make a person grow up real fast, most people don’t know what it means to take care of children until they actually have them. Karen, sounds like you definitely had your hands full at a very early age. I don’t think I knew anything about children & making a living on my own until I was around 26 years old. I was somewhat disappointed when college was over, I had too much fun & didn’t want it to end. If I hadn’t fallen in love, I may have stayed in school longer. Love changes a person.

Susan, those memory quilts, that is such a kind sweet beautiful thing to do. You are truly a very special, thoughtful, & talented person.

Pat, sounds like your cat is always close by, must love you.

Betty, that’s a pretty quilt the young lady is holding, really like how all those small square pieces look in the middle, looks like she spent time choosing the best color matches, love it. Oh, what gorgeous pink blooms on your angel trumpet, I’ve thought about ordering a pink double blooming one, has any seen one up close?

Deb / momcat, those puppies are way too cute, carrying their little stuffed toys.

I know we shouldn’t discuss politics, and I deleted a paragraph I had written about it, but can I just say I’m so sick of politics! Ok, now that I said that, I attached some pics of my flowers from this year. My yellow lilies were so tall, about 8ft high, ignore that ugly man with them, it was just to show how tall they were. I love me hydrangeas , have white , blue, pink, would love to have the old fashioned one that has one stem with just one bloom, my mom had that one, miss it. Picture of my bloodroot, it has the odd shape leaves, blooms white in early spring before anything else. Pic of my Hardy begonias, you probably grow those in Canada, they can withstand the freezing temperatures. Hope you enjoy them.

My prayers & thoughts go out to all of you, whether it’s you, your family, your friends, anyone that’s dealing with difficult times or situations. Life is not always easy & I just want you to know, I read all your postings, say prayers for you, & even though I don’t know you that well, I’m here if ever I could help in any way, just ask or even click on my name & message me.

Sharon, I used to grow those castor beans, kinda forgot about them, gonna have to see if I still have seed. I like to go & visit the botanical gardens at the local university, students along with a ton of volunteers, have created the most beautiful flower gardens, my favorite place. They usually have castor beans that are close to 15ft high, amazing what fertilizer can do.

I may have gotten some people mixed up in my last post, sorry, but it seems several of you sew & make quilts.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, glad to hear you have a security camera installed. You will get used to it. Don't turn it off.
Hallow, beautiful flowers. Angel trumpets come in single, double and triple blooms. They are all beautiful.
Deb, those puppies have really grown. They are beautiful.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

I saw an Angel trumpet in Tri-Cities this week. It's not common here. I had to reread your post Forest to see what the pink flower was, Hardy begonias. I don't think I even knew there was such a thing! WHAT kind of yellow lilly grows 8 feet tall???

We had rain again last night, I think that makes 3 out of last 4 nights now. Understand, this is a desert so it's not like we get a lot of rain!

The new desk is UGLY and a project that needs to be tackled soon. There are NO handles on the desk so I can't open the drawers. BUT!!! it has a pull out and it is very deep so my laptop can sit in front of the printer stand and still have room. The new location has room to the side for a filing cabinet. I want to finally start some genealogy inputting and will need the extra space. It's always something, right?

I had a friend over for dinner last night. It was really good to see Sheila She asked if I was interested in going back to work. I told her I would think about it AFTER Paula leaves from her 2 week visit starting at Christmas. I LOVE being retired but the whole sewer/septic tank scare has me very concerned about finances.

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7b)

Linda Kay, I never knew angel trumpets came in a triple bloom, bet that would really be pretty, thanks for telling me, I’m gonna have to look those up. The only thing about me growing them is downside of having to overwinter them. I have a neighbor who grows one in a container, babies it so, rolling it out of his garage when weather permits during winter, and gets absolutely tons of blooms on it. He told me he had counted close to 100 blooms at one time, stunning.

Pat, I got my hardy begonias from a neighbor, I hadn’t heard of them before that, their seed is smaller than a grain of sand, the underside of the leaves are a burgundy color. I bought those lilies at Home Depot or Lowes, can’t remember the name but was surprised when I seen how tall they grew. They’re planted near some yucca, never thought they would grow taller than those. I have a large roll top oak desk, very heavy, used to love it but now feel it’s just too big & taking up too much space. My son uses it now for his computer, he has a gaming computer. I don’t see what anyone gets out of spending hours playing games on computers, wish they’d never been invented, there’s too much to do outdoors, social anxiety or not. I bet you’ll fix up that desk nicely. If I had the space I would love to fix up & redo old furniture,

Frisco, TX(Zone 8a)

I spent an hour at a Container Gardens lecture put on by the Master Gardeners in my county. I pretty much knew what she presented but she had some beautiful pictures in her presentation. I have a very small area in the ground in the front I garden in, so the majority of my plants are in containers in the backyard, on the patio and pergola. It has been so hot here this summer and sun is burning everything up I needed to see some refreshingly cool lush plants.
