I haven't tried CBD oil so no idea if it helps. I do have a friend who uses it and I'll ask her. Dr. put in a Cortisol shot and prescribed tramadol. Neither one helps at all. I haven't gotten a call with an opening for therapy as yet. Trying to do some on my own but it's hard and really hurts. I'd love to be able to sleep in my bed, so far can only abide the recliner.
Had to break down and get a new monitor. Up to now had managed to avoid the rectangular ones. After I got it all hooked up and turned on, It came up with just my square screen I had before. Yay!! I can ignore all that empty space.
My "extra son" is coming over tomorrow to get our TV hooked up and running. THEN Sunday we are planning to go get in some baby cuddles with the twins. I'm needing them and the others too. Will also get farm eggs from granddaughter. Walt loves that she always includes some duck and goose eggs for him.

@hollow - my name is Susan. I live in Canada, and am loving the weather, raining, sunshine, etc. All good. Our little hamlet has the most "interesting" weather pattern - when other communities/towns to the East & West of us have tornadoes, and hail, it skips to the North of us and we don't get it.
I have Angel Trumpets (Datura), too. They didn't bloom this year, but I'm hoping they will next year. This year I have morning glories & hollyhocks that also didn't bloom. Lots of other flowers are though.
The exterminator came by this morning, and I'm hoping that the wasps that are left (about 5?) will die off without their queen. There were about 70 that swarmed when he threw something on the step to see what he was dealing with. Particularily agressive wasps he said. I'll do "test throw" of a brick (from a great distance) onto the step tomorrow morning & see what happens.

Lindakay that is horrible, is it a state health insurance you have? at that rate you likely won’t have it done by Christmas or is it quick to get surgery bookings?

Forest, Sharon would be the one to talk about the cactus in pots, know irs a tremendous amount of work as I believe come spring prior to putting them out she cleans all the pots and uses new soil that she composts. Angel trumpets are in several colours, think i have coral looking one, yellow and pink. i cannot overwinter so once they finish blooming I cut the stalk, about 6” pieces, replant and keep in a well lit.. i am lucky because my craft room has special lighting all around it so they think they are in a greenhouse. Love meat in my chilli but like it without much seasoning..

Dianne, I forgot to ask, with trees down did you lose power for any amount of time?

I did some alterations for Suzanne, she just left, she looks so tired, tomorrow at 8a.m. She has to go for a scan on her shoulder, she tripped over her daughters 120lb dog and did her shoulder in, doctor knows she needs surgery but with Suzanne looking after Lenny she put herself last.the celebration of life it from noon -4pm the her children, their better halves and grandchildren are having supper together, of course she says I must attend. She told me she found her trip money envelope and had over $400 us in it, i said I know she would never leave Christmas Day but may a few days later we could travel to Myrtle beach..stay at Darlene’s for home base and go further sightseeing even though the area is one we’ve travelled quite a bit..we will see!

Evan who sews with me was saying he has seen some nice driftwood pieces down on the end of beach so he and his friends just dropped in with nice pieces, they are too cute, nice young gentlemen.

Forest in the post I lost yesterday I was giving some info on myself, I am 75, 2 sons, 4 grands9ns and a great grandson, no girls. i took up teaching young ones to sew about 2 years ago, really enjoy it. About 6 times a year I open my craft ones to young children workshop, program is morning then an afternoon one, most days I have in the 30-40’, Easter program was 3 classes in a day, long day and think it added up to 52 kids. i was Recreation co-ordinator for a few decades so feels nice to be able to organize these workshops.

Have 1/2 of the blocks sewn, sitting here pinning, will have 3 more ready to sew Sunday I guess as tomorrow don’t think I will have any time.

Off to call my mom, i call her every 2 nights, nothing new to gab about but still listen to same old stories, whenever I say, off to bed she starts talking on and on..oh well guess I am lucky I’ve a mom still alive.

Just copied this message a few times, will post and if I lose it I have it to copy.

Karen, are you a VOL fan, those games will be starting up soon. I’m originally from VA, like you I plan to move back home in a few years to be closer to family. Miss being around my siblings & miss those big snows too. Knoxville just doesn’t get snow but when we do have a couple of flakes, everything shuts down, always found that odd.

Betty, I think you already know it but you are very lucky to still have your mother, those phone calls sound sweet & precious. Sounds like those kids keep you busy, and that’s a lot of them, I love being around children but don’t get to do it very often, I haven’t been around a baby or held one in such a long time, I miss it, told my wife the other day I wouldn’t mind having another one but it’s too late for that.

All for now, gotta go!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Horrific storm going on right now, thunder and lightening like I’ve never heard, warnings on tv..I just disconnected everything
Just held my head it’s so loud.
Black outside

Dianne, hope it’s not headed your way

Ok Betty calm yourself

Hope it clears so I can go to Lenny’s celebration of Life at noon

Haven’t lost power YET, hoping not as I will have to get the generator up and running..best I start saving for that $10k 7nit that keeps all running if power is out.

Best i go do all I need to do just incase

Hollow, I'm not a sports fan period. Unless one of my grands or greats is playing. I might watch a Red Wings game on occasion if the kids are watching.
I know I won't enjoy the winter weather very much but the need to be by family is greater. Also we no sooner got back here than my hubby had major open heart surgery. Drs. down there mentioned he had a heart murmer but never said more about it. First one he went to here sent him to Cardio who did tests and immediately sent him to heart surgeon. After first round of tests, Dr. said to me he couldn't believe Hubby hadn't had a heart incident before now. He needed a valve replaced, one repaired and a triple by pass. He also had one lung almost half filled with fluid. He's now pretty much recovered. Just got off his oxygen and walking and feeling pretty good. I have a feeling if we were still down there I might have lost him by now. We were very fortunate that he was in the best heart hospital up here.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Karen, I am so glad you moved for so many reasons!!! I am happy to hear that Walt is making such a good recovery.

My BIL Phil's funeral was well attended, the luncheon was MILES away in an area that would not have been that familiar to many of the attendees so less attended but still very nice. My son Kevin skipped the funeral and did all the set up for the luncheon. I just gave him all the supplies and turned him lose. He didn't set up the tables the way I intended but much better!

Kevin left early evening after the luncheon so he could be home in time to put his daughter to bed. She called early Thursday and said "Mommy says you won't be home today, she's kidding right?" That's when he decided to leave Thursday instead of Friday, I was disappointed but... she is 7.

Dana & Carrie left early evening on Friday and were home before dark 4 hours later. Dana looked so tired, 1 of the reasons they did not plan to stay thru Sunday. His work is very demanding right now and stressful.

Marie's oldest, Matt, drove in just before the funeral and out right after, he did not even get to stay for the luncheon.

Marie's daughter Erin & family leave on Monday. Marie really needed them here and this is the first time she has seen her 2 grandkids in 2 years. Tension between Phil & Erin, and then Phil too sick for Marie to be able to leave him, even with me willing to care for him. Now at least Marie will be able to go to MA and visit, see their new house & spend time with her grandkids. Her son Chris lives next door to her and can take care of her dog, OR she really should check what it would take to bring Jenny with her. She is a laberdoodle, well behaved and smaller than average.

I have 5 big bags full of stuff that I collected out of the Adult Family Home on Wednesday in order to get all of Phil's stuff out (and avoid $400 per day penalty if not cleared). I told Marie I would sort out what things I thought she would want & that I would donate the rest. I already dropped his clothes off for donation and bought him clothes to be put in. Nothing he had would have fit he lost so much weight. I had to guess at his "new size" and based on the way he looked when prepared, I did a good job.

I am glad Erin is here and can be the emotional support. I can barely keep up with the physical errands and arrangements that have been necessary.

Verona, ON

That storm is headed my way Betty. I just got back from doing errands and they sky is turning quite dark. Warning about severe thunder storm lasting until 7 pm. I'm all set, generator is gassed up ready to use if need be. I am so thankful that the thunder does not bother the TH.

Stopped at Foodland on my way home to get some more cherries. They are so tasty this year.

Pat you are so blessed to have your family arrive even under the circumstances. I haven't seen or talked to anyone in my family since 1996 the year my dad died. Well I have 2 nephews my sister's boys but all they do is moan about how hard life is for them. I hope Marie will take some time to power down although it might take a few weeks/months for everything to sink in. Please extend my sincere condolences to her.

Karen I was so glad you posted. I too was worried about you and Walt.

Thunder storm has started so I will power down.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Pat, sure hoping you can now have some down time. You have been pulled in too many directions lately. Awesome what you have done for Marie. Now take care of yourself.

funy - the post above - I forgot to send it last night, but here it was ready to send when I turned on my computer this morning!
Looks like the wasp nest is dead. I threw a brick on the step and nothing happened. Did it again. Now, an hour later & I'll try agai, then if it's fine, I'll pull up the step VERY slowly. It's cool today.

Betty - keep in touch please, so we know you're ok.
Dianne - hope you're safe as well.
Storms can be very scary, indeed.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Here's the wasp nest, now that it's dead :) Not sure if you can see the wasps, but there are a few here. I said to the exterminator that about 50 swarmed up when he threw a brick on the step and he said "many more than that". Glad to know that I dont have to worry about them. Now, to plant some mint in the area - they don't like mint. I'll have to pull up the entire step & replace it with pressure treated wood.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Susan, I HATE the aggressive wasps!!! We had super passive ones in Boise that never bothered me at all. I would forget about their nests and find myself weeding inches from them. Othello was a different story! I removed a small retaining walls that was along our walk because they would nest in it and attack us on our way to the front door.

Dianne, here's hoping you have no damage from your storm. My sister's dog Jenny is just a basket case during storms, you are lucky! I have tried to warn Marie to prepare to SLEEP for several months.

Betty, I am glad that teaching the children brings such joy to you. How is Sharon doing?

Linda the therapy requirement is not unusual along with requirements to try to shots. Sometimes I just think the insurance company hopes we will stop trying to get better so they can avoid the cost of surgery.

We just don't get the storms that many of you do. We get some nasty wind storms that bring down trees and have been known to close down a highway with dust blowing. South of us and North of us, the mountain passes can close due to snow storms but our area is fairly weather-drama free.

I am trying to get the "kids" to plan a weekend together. I have 3 bedrooms available and can put up both families here. That would hold down the cost and it's about 4 hours away (In opposite directions) for both of my 2 oldest sons . My youngest Adam lives in the area still. Clayton is in China and hopes to make it here end of January thru part of February. I certainly hope Dana & Kevin can make it during part of that time as well.

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7b)

Karen, sounds like your moving literally saved your husband’s life, I’m glad he’s starting to feel better, recovery does take time. Can I ask who his cardiologist was here in TN, I was in cardiac rehab last year just as a precaution because of chest pain & always feeling faint, have bifascicular block, chronic bradycardia, pulse stays in the 40’s, and will be getting a pacemaker in just a matter of time. Doctor said he’s waiting for me to faint, & that just made me worry, what if I collapse & don’t wake up? I already told the doctor, when I feel faint I stop what I’m doing and stand still or sit, and that if I didn’t I would have already fainted. I’m seeing a doctor at CAET cardiology associates of east tn, just had some test done & don’t know the results.

Susan, sounds like you live in a beautiful place, never been to Canada, do you also speak French? I studied French for 4 years in school, but never used it as a second language, easy to forget when it’s not used. Glad those wasps are gone, I’ve seen some big nest when I was growing up. My mother was allergic to bee stings, she spent time in the hospital for that.

Sharon, is there a Sharon, are you my cactus buddy? I thought I read somewhere that Sharon grows cacti. Anyway, someone had given me several seed for Tower of Jewels, I planted them in my yard hoping to dig up and pot them later, they were growing just fine & today I looked & they all were dead. I’m thinking they got too much water from the rain, I’m so disappointed & frustrated, wish I had dug them up earlier & I should’ve known better. I do have 1 tiny little plant left that I had placed a seed in a small pot, just have to baby it now. Has anyone ever grown this plant?

Storming bad, need to go!

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

This is Sharon and I grow succulents, not cactus. And everyone knows I am 81. Last year was the big "I am 80 birthday bash". This next Labor Day we all go to my home town because my brother is turning 80. I got to see my granddaughter nd her husband this morning with the two great-grand babies. She is expecting another one in December Eloise is 3, George is 1, will be two in December and actually new baby biy due date is George's birthday. She works for Adobe and gets 6 months maternity leave. One month before and 5 after. So that is one of the reason this one was even considered. But they both come from a a family of 5 siblings, So they will probably have 5. I have not asked. Our weather is beautiful today. In mid 90's. Unheard of for August but July was so hot we will take the cool down.

Betty and Diane, I hope you two weathered the storm. My friend is building a home in Utah, and owns a home here. The last lighting storm we had about 2 weeks ago, lightening hit her home. Put a hole in the roof and knocked out many appliances. Neighbor next door did not get hit but had numerous appliances damaged. I thought houses were grounded so lighting did not hit them.

Yes, we have been through the whole gamut with Karen and Walt. Moved in to a large home, then life happened and then they moved to Tn., then Walt got sick, Karen was already sick and now they are both on the road to recovery. It was touch and go for both of them but they had all of our angels surrounding them.

Pat, lost her husband due to illness and gained a cat. Then had a family crisis with a son and family sharing her home with a dog, then numerous puppies and now they are gone and Pat is just about back to her normal life.

We all helped Diane when her husband died and have gone through trials and tribulations with her rottweilers. She is one brave woman and cannot say no to a rottweiler.

Susan's soon to be ex-husband ran off with a woman about 1/3 his age. Denied it for several years. Had my mob friends ready to take him out but he wasn't worth it.

Linda from Texas, just lost her husband to a nasty cancer

My Texas born Vern died after 46 years of marriage from Parkinson.

I am telling you this because this is not the safest place to be if you are a male.

You all have a great day.

Talk at you all later.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

lol Sharon - love your description of my "situation". He ran off with a mentally-challenged woman half his age, now I hear that he's asking other women out for coffee. No one's taking him up on it from what I hear. He doesn't appear to be well-liked. Your mob friends, eh? I didn't realize that anyone would travel from Vegas, but I sure appreciate the thought!
When we thought the wasps were all dead, my neighbour was helping me rip up the shed step & found a 2nd wasp nest! Guess because they were separated by a board they didn't feel threatened. The extreminator said it was very unusual to see 2 so close together.
I took French in school, too, and although I lived in a city that had a "French quarter", I didn't use it much so as you say "use it or lose it" lol
I have all my tent equipment out in my yard. I had help putting it up last weekend, so I'm going to see if I can put it up by myself, using a "grabber". It's a 10 person cabin tent.

Evening all, long long day, hard one for Suzanne.
House is still standing and no flooding, thank the Lord. Jeff picked me up and Greg brought me home

Will be back tomorrow, just wanted you to know I’m ok

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7b)

Ok, just noticed there really is a Sharon, then when I seen her DG name, I suddenly remembered, oh I knew that , I just wanna say this happens to me on a regular basis. Did I tell y’all I have problems with my memory, because I do, and often. It’s embarrassing so please overlook me when it happens. Even if I write your names down somewhere like a cheat sheet, I’d still have problems, but in time I’ll get there, thanks

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Forest, we all have troubles occasionally with a wrong name, no problem! To make matters MORE complicated, several of us have family members with the same names as Dave garden friends here. Betty has a sister Sharon. I have a Sister in law that I do many things with that is Sharon, and we have our own DG "WormslovSharon" here! Only from context sometimes can you tell "who" we are talking about!

Dana has already gotten back to me and reserved a resort stay for 1 week in May. He has a time share and he paid the upcharge to get a 3 bedroom unit. Whether Kevin & Gloria can come or not, it will be fun. In a few weeks I will talk to Marie about coming with me on that trip and sharing my bedroom.

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7b)

Thanks Pat, I appreciate your support. I think it bothers more because I’m assuming I’m the youngest here, may not be, I’m only 61 & since my stroke when I was 45, it’s been a struggle. Why did you choose to use ‘Psychw2’ as a user name, my major was in psychology? Oh, love that cat picture, pretty cat.

Tallulah, the way you describe your “situation” made me laugh, that’s funny. 10 person tent, that’s my style of tent, I don’t care too much for the smaller ones.

My brother just sent me a text saying hello & he also attached a pic of our parents tombstone, this is the 4th or 5th time this year that he & other family members have texted me a pic of their tombstone, I wish they wouldn’t send me texts like that, so this time I kindly ask them not too anymore, it’s not memories I want to think about, &I told them I’d love to see pics of mom & dad and ask if they could share those with me instead, should I not have said anything? Nice tombstone but I don’t want to see it every holiday (all of them) every time they visit the graveyard, every mowing / tombstone cleaning, flowers left, mother’s/ Father’s Day, etc…

Forest

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Glad to gear the funeral was nice Pat.
Betty, I have medicare for my primary insurance, then I have insurance from the base I worked at. So I never have to pay for doctor visits or any treatment or surgery. It just normal protocol if one has to have surgery, they have to try medications or injections first. If that doesn't work then therapy. If that doesn't work we can finally have surgery. If I start therapy in September, hopefully my mid November I can get surgery.
I will be flying back to Texas Thursday. My sister seems to be doing ok. I gave both if her boys instructions to call me if she goes downhill.
Betty, glad to hear you are ok after the storm. Dianne, praying you are safe as well.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

When I went back to school to get my Masters in Psychology to become a mental health worker, I had really only started using email. My email was Mommyheartless (Mommyhearless was suggested by my son Clayton as a joke & I instantly jumped to heartless.) The first time I had to provide my email address at school I regretted Mommyheartless! Ya, maybe NOT a good idea if you are psych major LOL!
I was attending & living at Walla Walla, which I always referred to W2. I changed my email and all my account names to psychw2. That was 19 years ago, and I have stayed with that handle. I recently added an email to separate out my personal stuff from junk mail and orders. I meant to change it to psych3c (3c being tri-cities). I think about year back somebody asked the DG group why they chose the name they use here and there were lots of interesting stories.

At 61 you probably are the youngest, but maybe not. I am 68 Since you never ask a lady her weight or age, you may never know!

The cat picture is of my cat Jalouse (French for jealous). When Ben & I lived in Othello she tripped Ben twice and for Jalouse's & Ben's safety I rehomed her. I should update with a picture of Stanley but I won't. When you update the picture here it changes ALL your avatar pictures, not just "from here forward". That is why I don't update.

I will feel better when EVERY one checks & reports they are OK after the recent storms.

I hurt all over and wish I had a good massage scheduled. I could probably use one of my sister Marie's. We both had a "subscription" to a massage therapist several years ago. I discontinued mine & she kept hers. If you did not use your once-a-month massage, you could "roll it over" and carry it forward You could also let someone else use it. Marie will now be in a position to start using up her backlogged sessions.

Hello Everyone 🖐
I am new here but I noticed that you said new comers were welcome so here I am.
Betty your arm looks painful. I hope it heals fast for you.
My name is Susan and several years ago I belonged to Dave’s garden. We use to have plant trades and played bingo also round robins.
I have to read more to see how it is run now.
Well ladies I hope to get to know you all 😊
.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Susan - what was your handle back when you were in DG before? Was it always Nana47?
I'm also Susan, in Canada, and I remember people differentiating me from the "other" Susan by calling me Canuck Susan lmao

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7b)

Pat, Clayton must have a good sense of humor, mommyheartless, I like that it’s funny. Stanley is a cute cat too, I love pets, have 2 dogs, yorkie & a morkie, call them my girls, they’re very smart & spoiled. I worked in mental too, didn’t get rich but I enjoyed it.

Nana47, welcome to the group, I’m new too. There’s a lot of estrogen here but also a little bit of testosterone! I live in Knoxville Tn, but I grew up in Honaker Va.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Welcome Susan / Nana47, we hope you continue to join us. Newcomers are always welcome. When DG changed hands, some of the forums changed. Some were eliminated. The quilting portion changed as postage got so expensive that having the block exchanges became more difficult. Several of us that used be more involved in sewing aspect have just kind of done our "show and tell" here on this thread although not everyone here is a sewer, or quilt maker.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Afternoon everyone, rained good part of the morning here, we are between having a/c on to furnace.

Forest, difficult for me to reply to your post Re tombstones, I keeper” of family loved ones, since my Sharon my sister moved up here she has taken an interest in helping out..we make sure they cemeteries are well maintained, we clean the moss from headstones and on Father’s Day, Mother’s Day we put bouquets of flowers at their tombstone..we do 3 different cemeteries, my hubby in Waubaushene, then Midland, Penetang. Never thought when I send photo’s to their loved ones it might be upsetting, i thought it would warm their hearts that due to their living far away that their loved ones are being cared for..perhaps that is why you are getting photos.

Lindakay, glade Kathy is holding her own, I’m sure her kids will be certain to call you when she starts losing ground.you’ve had so many changes in your life these last months, hard to think of YOU. the months are moving quickly, November will be here before you know it but doesn’t help much when you need surgery like today.

Pat, I did not know that about updating, you mean your screen shot with DG that appears with each post? Jealousy was precious, hope happy in new home. I have 2 nieces who do massage therapy, they can’t under medical licensing do relatives. Tomorrow I must call and book my therapy sessions Dr. Jones gave me referral for.
Am sure it will do both you and Marie good to get away.

Susan you will feel better now that the bee situation has been looked after. I went to school learning half my classes in English and other in French. At home Roger andI spoke French, but since his passing 32 years ago I rarely speak it..mentally i know 100% of what people have written but hard to get it out. Yesterday at Lenny’s Celebration of life Rogers family 10 siblings were there, most speaking French.
Penetanguishene (place of the White Rolling Sands) where Is was raised was a French colony and basically still is.

Karen, I am so glad that Walt and you are doing better and close to family which I know is your all..winter is hard on all of us in the north, was going through some photo’s yesterday I came across one that made me shudder, will be time soon to get out the shovels put away and snow shovels out.

Dianne, must be getting tranquil on your road with only weeks left before school starts. Did you find with price of gas there was less boating this year? I was a Foodland the other day, almost chocked at the cost of items in comparison so other grocery stores..am thinking Foodland chain owners put their stores close to tourism towns and charge what they want..a lot of their sales in town are from boaters because the dock landing is but steps away.

Sharon, you have such a sense of humour..read your post about us and think in one pist you summed us up.

Nana Susan, thank you for joining us..I used to so love the swaps and round robins..
i walk my gardens and often see treasures I’ve received thu the years..i have 2 pairs of p.j’s Lindakay sent me in swaps and I still wear them..

Lazy Sunday day here..went into Midland at his morning, guess I should not have, still having little episodes of dizziness so got what I had to and on the couch I am..

I did make spaghetti sauce, just cooling, I will put in containers 8n the morning..also tried to purchase $$ store coffee for dying socks for fall project, went to 3, none of which had any..should have know better, used filter type coffee, didn’t dissolve so I just put them in washer and will reduce them..thought if I dyed them now there would be less work when I do my workshops.

I’ve so much I could be doing and have done nothing..have a morning and an afternoon class tomorrow so that is sure to fill in my day so getting comfy in bed shortly might work up some energy for tomorrow..

Ziggy is hinting around that it’s bedtime..I put his treats on bedroom dresser where he can eat and look through the screen so he can keep an eye on what’s going on..

Seeing all these cute cats makes me want to get one! We’ve been thinking about it getting one, maybe it’s a sign!

Hi! My name is Sherry and I’m recently back to DG after years of being AWOL. I have a new project that brought me back.
I saw your group a few days ago and read for a while. It was so fun and friendly. So when something bad happened today and I needed someone to commiserate with, I naturally thought of y’all.

Here’s the problem. A couple of days ago I was surprised, delighted and thankful to see a cardinal flower on the edge of one of my gardens. I’ve lived here about 20 years and it’s the first one I’ve ever seen. The stem and leaves looked familiar. I think I’ve been weed whacking them!!!
I can see it from the back sidewalk to my deck and it was there this morning. I left to run errands and when I came back, it was laying on the ground! I picked it up and realized it had been chewed off at the base. Such a cruel end. I would have cried if I hadn’t already planned to plant seed next year.
I don’t know if it was the rabbit or the chipmunks, but 2 of my most gorgeous lilies suffered the same fate. Very sad.

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7b)

Sherry, welcome to the group. I can relate to your story about the cardinal flower, we all probably can. It makes me so angry when I baby particular plants in my yard only to later discover that some animal, usually a squirrel / rabbit / chipmunk / dog / etc…, has destroyed it. I had a Brazilian plume I had babied for years, I kept it on my screened back porch, later I decided to sit it out in the yard so it could be seen, next time I looked at it, all I could see was the container it was in no plant, it had 2 stems at the base & squirrels had chewed both off & pulled it away from the pot. I’m a big animal lover but that day I wanted to kill those squirrels!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sherry and Susan, welcome to the group. Always nice to have new friends join us.
Always frustrating to see plants we worked hard on, chewed off.
Betty, this year has been a whirlwind fir sure. Losing hubby, then flying his ashes home to Maryland. Now watching my sister go through the same thing. It's been difficult to say the least.

Went out to daughters for some twin cuddles. Boys are 2 1/2 months now and just over 10 lbs. each. They are starting to react with us now, I got lots of smiles from them. Except for our sailor who is stationed on Whidby Island, all hers were there. So fun to spend a day with grands and greats. We were all exchanging garden produce and of course Manda brought us eggs. We took out pickled beets and strawberry jam. Everyone was complaining when I told them beets won't be ready to try for another week. I think we are going to make up another batch as they are so popular. Manda also works at Jiffy Mix and she brought us a very nice selection of mixes. Most places only see the Jiffy corn bread but they really have a large variety locally. The eggs Manda brings us are huge and mostly duck eggs.
I think I may be the oldest as I turned 80 this past June.

Good morning everyone.

I've been up since 3 am. The coyotes decided to treat me to a concert last and Zeke joined in. The coyotes have been quiet for quite awhile. I am wondering if the bear cruising around has scared them away. The bear is getting quite bold so I hear. I ended up putting my garbage bags in the Bronco but I am sure if the bear really wanted to it could get in.

Oh Karen I love reading your posts about your family getting together. Those twins are 10 lb already......wow.

Welcome Susan and Sherry.

Betty there was hardly anyone out on the lake this summer unless it was in a canoe or kayak.

You might be onto something about Foodland being located in tourist areas. There are 2 Foodlands within 30 mi from each other. Our Foodland also has a LCBO/Beer outlet so it is really busy. I gasp as I hurry by the meat counter. I did glance over and saw a small Prime Rib roast that was over $50.00

LK how are you doing? Keeping you close to my heart. You have had so much on your plate this last year. Hope you get a chuckle out of this - you sent me a statue to put in the garden. I have found it in several places none of which I had placed it. There is a raccoon that seems to enjoy moving it around. I just hope it doesn't decide to give it a wash in the lake.

My Hosta plants are very healthy even with the deer chowing it down on a regular basis. I didn't plant any annuals this year so relied on my perennials to bring on some colour.

Chaos and Zeke have their leashes in their mouths so I get the not so subtle hint - time to walk.

You just had to know I’d go back to look at those duck eggs and lost my post..when do we ever learn..was getting used to copying my post after a few paragraphs but didn’t.

Be back in a bit, big sigh

Betty/ Bettypauze I like to say that I am not a slow learner, I am a quick forgetter!! Don't ya just HATE it when you make the same mistake? LOL I positioned my desk & printer stand & headboard of the twin bed so Stanley could look out my computer room window easily. *sigh* what we do for our pets!

MomKZ/ Sherry, welcome! I hope you make this thread a daily habit, we'd love to have you join us. I had a neighbor's dog that used to get out and bed down in my flower bed. After the 3rd year in a row that it broke off special perennials, just as it was ready to bloom! I scooped up all the broken flowers and knocked on their door. I showed them all the damage and offered to help them create a flower bed with flowering bushes etc so their dog would be happier at THEIR own house. No, they did not take me up on it. Their dog got out, got hit by a car & died. They replaced with an equally annoying dog.

Karen /siliolegma do you substitute 1 goose egg for every 2 chicken eggs in a recipe? Or do you use them exclusively as some form of breakfast egg? They are HUGE! Hearing about all the different specialty foods your family brought to share is precious.

Dianne/ Kidneyguy, my husband said he always felt comforted when he heard the coyotes because it told him the wolves were not nearby. Maybe it works the same regarding the bear?

Linda/ taters55 (sometimes referred to as LK) my heart goes out to you. So much change, upheaval and loss in such a short time. I am glad that you have found the move to be right decision for you.

Susan/ Tallulah_B I hope your wasp problems are behind you and that your annoying "visitor" gets captured on video & punished!

Sharon /WormsLovSharon, I reread your post as I enjoyed it so much the first time! LOL Yes, having all the dogs in the house nearly drove me crazy. 2 labs. 1 rat dog & then the puppies.... Adam & family ended up keeping 2 of the lab puppies. They now have 5 dogs in THEIR house. He recently told me he is going to add some additional fencing to keep the dogs off their patio. (It seems that "somebody" isn't using the yard but the patio instead!" to do their "business") Have I mentioned lately how grateful I am to have them ALL in THEIR own home & not mine?? LOL

Forest/ Hollow, hopefully you will write down the members names with their regular names and that will make it easier for you.

Pat I loved your phrase 'quick forgetter' - yep that's me. I just did that yesterday. I had a lengthy chatty post but I didn't see it here when I logged on.

I understand everyone's feelings about dogs misbehaving. You all know I am a dog lover - why would I have 2 Rottis if I wasn't. But have no tolerance for people who do not train their dogs in even the most simple commands. Deb I am sure you feel the same. Wow 5 dogs and I bet they are all house dogs. Aren't you glad they moved Pat?

Forgot to mention Kieran came down last week to say 'good bye'. He won't be back until Christmas holidays. Football practice is taking most of his day now. Classes don't begin until after Labour Day. I'll miss him and I know Zeke will too. I'll especially miss him when my 3 bush cords of wood is dropped off.

Sharon how hot will it get to today? The humidity here is terrible. You could cut the air with a knife. I came home from our walk drenched in sweat and the TH had their tongues dragging. Zeke joined me in the shower. He just loves water. I would have thought going through the ice would have put him off of getting in the lake.

Susan how is your wasp problem? Are there any lingering?

Betty what are you up to today?

Be good to yourself today everyone.

YES they are ALL house dogs and NO, they are not well trained. When Adam brought JUST Nova for the first couple of months alone, I made headway with her. YES, I am VERY happy they are ALL in their own home.

Well behaved dogs are a joy. But then I feel EXACTLY the same about children, I find the common denominator of poor mannered dogs and kids is usually the same!

Those big eggs are making me hungry! Growing up on a farm, we had chicken eggs, colored chicken eggs, eggs from ducks & geese, always wanted to try an ostrich egg. My sons love to eat eggs, they will fry up a dozen & eat it, sometimes there might be a little leftovers but rarely. At Easter egg hunts, we always used duck or goose egg as a lucky egg, & usually my dad’s hunting dogs ate their share. I remember sitting at the table with my sister & brother coloring & decorating those eggs. My mom would always make a large jar of beet pickled eggs, miss those eggs & of course my mom too. What memories those eggs bring back for me. Thanks

Eggs, my dad lived on Georgian Bay and he would go to one of the islands and pick up Seagull eggs and pickle them, Roger enjoyed them but I wouldn’t even think of of trying them.

Pat, love the way you wrote was excellent for our new friends..
Omg 5 dogs, they would need mega caring for, lots of cleaning up after them. Is their new home have neighbours nearby. I chuckle when you said you brought the broken flowers over to the neighbours..bet they were without words. Today Pat I had one student, she is 13, she is from the city but have a home a few street over so I try my best to fit her in. Vanessa who is 7, the one we have ice cream and Sosa pop 1/2 way through her class is in summer camp this week, 9-4..mom asked me if she could bring her after day camp which meant she would diet here til 4:30 tired as can be, she was upset she would not be with me today so I said no, bring her Saturday morning.

Just heard micro saying sauce is ready to put on noodles.. be back in a bit

Seagull eggs would be the size of a goose egg or bigger, wouldn’t they? Oh no, sorry I thinking of pelicans. It would take a lot of seagull eggs to fill me up, not sure I would go to all that trouble, but I bet you hey are delicious.
