Welcome, Sherry! I know you'll enjoy chatting with all the lovely people here.

Wasps are gone - two hives only separated by a 2x4. Unusual, but then do we expect anything different from me? lol NOPE! The frame is all that's left of the step. I'll be putting the wood in my firepit :)
It's 29c now, but I need to mow the 2nd half of my lawn. The front & side is done, and the back is the same amount of yard. Have to move my chairs & other furniture to do a proper job. I like mowing at this time of day - sunny, and the mosquitoes & flies are sleepy so not bothering me., Y'have to remember, I'm originally from Winnipeg and it got hotter than this. Yes, it's comically called "Winterpeg", but could easily have been nicknamed "Summerpeg". Temps of 104F were the norm.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Forest a smaller than regular egg.

Sherry welcome..heartbreaking to lose some of your favourite plants to animals..
I keep looking at my trumpets, left them in containers..ants, freezing temps early spring have about done them in..big sigh, but then that is Mother Nature so nothing we can do but dog damage, well blame the neighbour or perhaps he/she is an escape artist. What project brought you back to DG?

Karen, how many more days before you can taste your beets? When you say you did a batch, how many jars would that be? Saw at grocery store med size jars were on sale $16.99, imagine. Was jars something you purged on both moves items you left behind? Greg took his jam home and a few jars of crab apple jam, haven’t heard yet what he thinks. Hmm maybe I will have toast and jam before bed with a good cup of tea.

Nana Susan,I bought NewSkin yesterday and sprayed 2 layers on so it seems to be doing better..now sure how it would work when you first get cut..pinched a bit..liquid bandaid, am sure I will get to test it out.

Sharon,, how was your weather today..when do you start with fall planting?

Deb, soon those puppies will be going to good homes, Sharon just messaged me, was at vets and spent $780.00..must have been for needles. Are your vets as expensive?

Not going to bed early tonight so might pin the throw.. 3 blocks by 3 blocks tad small, 3 blocks x 4 blocks a tad longer..will go with large..

Must call mom seeing I didn’t call yesterday.seems I and my Sil Kim are only ones that call her on regular basis

Rug colour..blocks to match

Know I am going to lose this post before continuing so best I press send..

In total agreement about kids and dogs. I was a Behavioural consultant for years when we lived in TO. I had 1 young boy on my caseload who didn't know what colour the carpet was in his room as it was covered with his stuff. Actually it was the parents who should have been on my caseload. I had set up a reward for the kid if he could clear a section of the carpet in hopes the whole floor would be cleared in time. Parents did everything they could to make sure the kid didn't meet his goal. I finally turned the case over to a social worker.

Agree about kids and dogs. The TH are well trained but could be better with their 'party' manners. I am a bit of a hermit and we don't see many people other than the Purolator fella. Trevor loves dogs and comes with treats for my 2. Also my 2 are very protective of me so plant themselves right in front of me if I don't know who is at the door.

Susan we used to do a show in Winnipeg in late November. We always did very well at it and Warren loved the people. Very welcoming. Stayed at the Louis Riel. When we did a show that was longer than 3 days we used to rent a hotel studio apartment.

So Betty do you still use that warm wax on your hands ? I wrap a heating pad around my hands a few times a day when needed. I was watching an ad on TV in the wee hours of the morning for Dr. Ho's things. I was tempted.

Deb how big are the pups now ?

Well I caught myself in time- I was going to go back to see a post. Ooops I've made that mistake too many times.

Oh Karen pickled beets are delicious. I'll go to the Farmers' Market on Friday and get some beets to pickle. We used to pickle about 3 dozen eggs every year. They were a big hit at the hunting camp.

Rain in the forecast tomorrow but the Weather Liars have been known to be wrong.

Enjoy your evening everyone.

Dianne - trying to remember when we "met" online. Was it after I moved to Calgary? Maybe. I've been in AB for 17 years, and Cubits was around for 13........ hmmmm not sure how long I'd been a member of DG. I'll have to look it up.
Maybe I was in Wpg when you did your shows.

edited to say - I've been a member of DG since Feb 2008. I moved to Calgary in Aug 2006. If you did shows before then we still wouldn't have met, unfortunately.

That blue & white quilt is going to be gorgeous, l love the color scheme you used, not sure I could ever have the patience for doing that, great job!

My grandma died when she was 94, she live to fish and was always working on a quilt. When I went off to college, I took my quilt she had made me, it was covered with boys, so I guess it was a little boy quilt, wish I had taken better care of it, think I have it in my garage covering up some rifles, I think the ??? filling or lining??? is bunched up throughout it, is that fixable?

Well I am here and all is well. Karen, I am the oldest, 81 august 4th. Forrest, you are the same age as my children. Todd is 60 and Tracy is 62. I had a manicure today and have a HOA Board zoom call tomorrow. Our weather has been delightful. High 70s to mid 90s. Rain storms coming end of week but I will believe it when I see it. A fried called me today to see if I had room in my pond for a few fish and two turtles. Someone he was doing work for was getting rid of their pond. I said sure because a Heron got 5 of my fish last year. They were here at 4pm and brought 2 turtles and about 20 fish. I think too many fish for my pond. And now the fish are my problem. They are my age and said they were too much work and expense. But I do have a commercial pond filter on mine so not much manual labor except skimming the top of the water. Housekeeper was just leaving when they showed up with all of the fish. She had that look on her face when she wants to tell me I am crazy.

Welcome to Susan and Sherry. This is a fine group. We migrated together when many of the forums we followed just disappeared. The majority went over to Dave's new adventure and I, for myself, just couldn't navigate the new site.

Little children do not bother me as long as they are behaving. Little children's noise does not bother me but whining rings my chime big time. The tot lot is directly behind my home on the greenbelt and the only thing that separates me and the tot lot is a wrought iron fence and a sidewalk. In prior years, 10 years back, it was used a lot but now children are so involved in other things, that going to the park is low on their list.

I have picked the majority of the tomatoes and given many bags to certain neighbors and friends. Next week I will dig up two area and plant some radishes, turnips, spinach and different varieties of lettuce. The radishes rarely make it into the house. I just rinse them off and eat them in the garden.

Betty, my dad used new skin all the time on his fingers, because they would crack. I have a small bottle in the medicine shelf in a cupboard in the kitchen. I still have some pink stuff Vern used to drink when he had an upset stomach. I saw it the other day and said to myself, "I should probably toss it." I do not use it.

I did not go to college. During my growing up women were meant to be nurses, teachers or secretaries. I chose secretary. I was also planning on becoming a Realtor later in my mid 20's. I had some neighbors that were Realtors. I went to work as a receptionist/secretary for a mortgage company and the rest is history. I was the first female loan officer for Transamerica and the first female loan officer in Las Vegas. Most of my real estate clients were mothers who's children were in school and they did real estate while the children were in school. And boy could those mother's with their aprons on sell a lot of real estate and loved dealing with a woman (young girl). I was actually younger than them and became like a second daughter.

Well I got on here late and Miss Emma needs her walk and I have not eaten all day. I just forget to eat.

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7b)

Sharon, I think I could live off fresh vegetables, especially tomatoes & cucumbers, I just cut those up & mix in a bowl, add Morton’s seasoning salt or zesty Italian dressing, & eat em up, yum yum. Also, a fish pond is on my bucket list, don’t know the first thing about them but I want one, my son & I have talked about putting one in so maybe it’s time

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

hollow - I'd love a fish pond, but don't they take a lot of work? Upkeep & keeping critters out from eating the fish to lots of mosquitoes (yes the fish eat them lol) and electicity for a recycling pond?

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Pooh(that's Amanda) actually gave us two dozen eggs. One dozen chicken eggs for cooking and the other dozen for eating. Mostly Walt eats them. First one he ate today was actually a double yolk duck egg. I don't eat breakfast very often and if I do it's a piece of toast with either cinnamon or strawberry jelly. Today I had half a tomato sandwich around noon and A wedge of cantaloupe around 9. It was a generous wedge and it was also a Howell melon. They are huge and unbelievably sweet. Town of Howell, near Becky's is famous for their melon. Always have to get a couple in season every year.
Amanda has always been my Pooh. Her youngest Becca is called Boo.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Karen/siliolegma, Pooh & Boo, how cute!

Sharon/ wormslovsharon, those are some pretty impressive firsts!

Betty/ bettypauze, your arm makes me hurt just looking at it! Your rug quilt combo is beautiful. I can't wait to see the finished product.

Dianne/ kidneyguy ,I'll bet those 2 dogs are intimidating to strangers!

I never had little kids on my case load unless it was the parents that needed the "work". My focus was on teaching the parents how to parent and what was realistic expectations. A surprising number of parents with special needs kids way underestimated the ability of their children to learn to behave. Seeing those parents walking politely down the hall with their formerly out-of-control child was VERY rewarding.

Forest, you said you worked in mental health, in what capacity?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, high of 73°F, humidity 81% with 40% rain..I am thinking they’ve made an error on the % as I felt a few drops when I swept the front deck. Have to think up a solution for white flooring, in 2 areas I have planters, when petals fall and with this damp weather their colour seems to penetrate into the paint, pretty bought should not be.

Marie came over last night, brought me tomato and a cucumber and asked had I noticed a change in back yard, nope hadn’t been out, guess she told Ted that there was a large tree that needed to come down so both went out and took it down, might get a chance to use that new chain saw and cut it in sections for burning in the pit..great neighbours.

You have such an exciting history Sharon, was very interesting read. Was it after retirement that you took up your gardening? One year I bought several fish for my pond and enjoyed watching them Missy at the time would sit by the edge spending the afternoon looking at them then a Heron decided it was hungry. The next season bought a couple more, they survived the summer but not the winter, when doing my annual spring clean up there they were. This year I mentioned getting a few but didn’t. My mind is quite a size, around 15’ square and sloping down to about 3’ in middle..ask me I know the depth, giggling, as it’s the worse job come spring and always hear me saying I smell like a swamp lady once the chore that takes a few days is done. If i do decide to get fish next year I will but a bubbler. I do love the sound of the water feature, pushes water about 4-5 high, lovely sound. Sharon you are a keeper of things as I, i have a bottle sitting on medicine cabinet that is ancient, actually I think poisonous and a few other older soaps etc. what we don’t keep.

Forest, thanks for the compliment Re couch throw, breaks my heart to think of quilts given to me when I was young by my grandma that I didn’t appreciate. My youngest Jeff visited in year, they were travelling back to Toronto and asked me for a heavy blanket for the boys should they break down, he took the quilt comforter grandma had made from wool pants, shirts and jackets..weighs a ton, once under you can’t move, i never got it back, said us was his inheritance so it is in a good home. The other blanket I had of hers was starting to be thin, few holes in it so this past Christmas I made it into Xmas mitts and gave all the nieces and nephews and my kids a mitt to remember her by. I have a quilt my mom made me, all cross stitched, should be out on display but Ziggy would have his claws deep into embroidery thread so it sits in closet..must try to find somewhere to display it. Maybe you should so get that blanket, it could be someone’s treasure.

Lots to chat about this morning, going to grab a coffee, toast with my crabapple jelly before Arianna gets here at 9, it’s her 2nd class, she made the frog you micro and it helps when you have an area that is paining..know i out it somewhere but where??

Will be back once class is over to respond to the posts I’ve just read.

That quilt is exquisite!!! Yes, I'd be putting it somewhere protected! I remember those adorable frogs you made!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Back for a tad, Arianna was so excited to take her frog home that when her grandmother picked her up she asked for the pattern so that she could make some as Christmas gifts, see I am not the only one who is planning ahead.

Had a few calls Re appointments for X-rays, appointments etc that I filled my calendar… don’t you think the worse of getting tests is if they came back negative as day to day pain sometimes is too much to deal with?

ThanksPat, that quilt was hand cross stitched and hand quilted by Aunt Muriel. Mom gave me about a decade ago blocks for 2 queen size quilts that I could divide the blocks and make 4 throws for grandchildren..now to get at it after the throw I am doing for myself right..

Karen I am with you, not a fan of early breakfast, I do brunch and sometimes just cereal or sandwich for supper. Funny how kids get nicknames, Destiny, Kyle’s other half when pregnant and because she is so short looked like a penguin, so when Grayson was born he got the name of ‘little Penguin’.my kids and grands did not have nicknames, they were Greg and Jeff but when mischievous it was Gregory and Jeffery. You must be feeling a tad better Karen seeing you are cooking and canning.
Peighton, young one who sews here messaged me, they were out picking blueberries, today they are baking, wanted to know if I would like some and bring me treats they just made..i am up to that.

Just got a call from. Lady who has a sewing machine that she no longer uses, it’s a White, older but usually a workhorse, I will give it to Arianna if she wants it then all kids who come sewing will have a machine that someone donated.

Susan, my pond runs 24/7 from May to October, does take a lot of extra hydro. I remember calling you Canuck Susan lol. I joined DG for almost 20 years and this thread must be about 15 years..I’ve met such wonderful people on DG..family now really. Never went to Cubits, primarily because of 1 individual..to those returning or just joining a big welcome.

Oh Betty - that quilt your Aunt Muriel made is......... no words........ it's BEAUTIFUL! How high can Ziggy jump? Maybe put it on a wall high enough up? It certainly needs to be lovingly displayed!
Late last night I realized that our Tues Social Group didn't celebrate the month's birthdays last Tues, so I made some licorice ice cream & a pineapple coffee cake. The cake was made from what I had on hand that could be made quickly, using Bisquick mix, and licorice ice cream because I know Dianne (birthday girl Aug 22) loves it.
A friend was selling her vers 6 Roomba for $60, so had to get it. I was saying the other day that I need a vaccuum, and voila! Good shape, she just got a good deal on a Wi-Fi capable one (really?). I'll pick it up today.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Want to apologize with all the newbies and oldies that if I didn’t mention you in my posts it’s because I am not quite with it..sorry!!

Good for you Susan, keep thinking. about one but Kyle talks about the one he has that does everything but cook, think we’ll over $1k, i know because I have $$$ towards it at Christmas. i am sure you will love it, saves time for sure, time you could put to better use..bet you can’t wait to get there and pick it up. I’ve never made ice cream, think I would be in trouble..favourite is liquorice and also black cherry. Mom did the cross stitching Susan then aunt Muriel quilted it..yes should be displayed.

Marie next door makes frequent visits to check up on me, i was downstairs sewing and didn’t hear her come towards me, scarred the beekeepers out of me.
Came upstairs to gab and as she was walking out I saw my planters wilting, now how can they be wilting, oh yes, all the pots are under that humongous sun umbrella so out I went with her, was just about to use hose to water them and caught my foot in the hose, down I went but then the world started turning at high speed again..told her to let me be for awhile then got up and watered my pretties.

The optometrist office called, got an appointment for tomorrow at 11:45am..Evan will come 9-11 for sewing, doing a fall pillow with his family initial as Turkey body then into Midland I will go, while there I might as well have my hip/pelvis X-ray done, don’t need appointment so you know it will be a long wait.

Big sigh, here when I thought giving up all that pain med and getting memory and energy back now comes the dizzies..next week I get my ears cleaned and testing to see if a problem with equilibrium, eye appointment tomorrow, am sure I need glasses, he will also do further testing, so hopefully that will rule out those 2 things..

Gardens are looking as though fall has set in

On the photo you see umbrella you can see the grass, ooops, forget to water..to save work this year I did not put umbrella down, next year artificial turf under it lol
The photo with phlox you can see behind it the high fire pit topped to the brim, need no rain for a few days so it can dry so I can light it.

Susan has me yearning for ice cream so best I got get a bowl of chocolate/strawberry
Which isn’t homemade, yuck

Just realized there no sweets that I can eat so maybe as deadline for bread is today I can make some bread pudding.

Betty, still in mega pain and no relief in sight. Trying not to give in to it to my detriment.
Cannot get into therapy been waiting weeks for appt. Cannot go to another on as It would then cost me $40 every time. Trying CBD oil...no help. Feeling at the end of my rope and no knot to hang on to.This pain has been since April. Left arm totally useless, cannot even get my self dressed. Most days if we do not have to go out, I stay in my robe. All this from having a cast on my arm for two weeks until pain forced me to remove it.Pain is ruling my life and wearing me down. Very hard to find any pleasure in my life any more. So there is my rant.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Not a rant Karen.. sorry to hear you are beyond pain, wish you could find something that would. allow you to do things you love.i am with you on the robes, i bought several long dresses in Florida once, i now wear them most of the time, they help me because there is no pressure on back of neck..likely you do have a Dr. Ho, does give me some relief. A friend also bought me an attachment for seat belt, after I connect my seat belt in I lift it mid way up so no pressure on shoulder..amazing what we try to come up with..thing that helps pressure in shoulder and arm I’d a halter, keep shoulder/arm bone in place..gets me thru 1/2 day.

I once told my doctor Karen that if someone developed a pain monitor they would be a billionaire..they would.. i often have people including my sons at time how great a shape I’m in, still working with seniors and kids, looking after the house and 1/2 acre of gardens, they absolutely have no idea that everything I do I do with mega pain beyond anyone’s belief.

i start physio next month, free to seniors, not sure how long they do it for free, i will try it!

Marie just came to see how I’m doing after my fall and episode, just crawled into bed when i could hear Ziggy running up and down the hall, said self, hope it’s not another mouse but from what I can see it’s the play mouse i bought him which has catnip in it.

Betty, have you taken your blood pressure during your dizzy spells? It sounds like your blood pressure is off.

Victoria Harbour, ON

I did Lindakay, when i was at pharmacy sunday i showed pharmacist my readings, one has a 168, he said was high, not for me though, all others he said fine.

Doing checking myself until 28th of month when my doc calls.. hopefully eyes and ear appointments will exclude them as being the culprit. Think i mentioned I’ve been bringing chairlift to top of stairs just incase walking by the staircase if i were to fall the chair would prevent me from falling down stairs. Guess you will be flying home shortly and starting you health issues being addressed. How I’d Kathy today?

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Karen and Betty, I am so sorry you are both in constant pain. Wish the CBD cream was working because it helps my shoulder when it aches but I think mine is just a sore muscle. I think I would call the news and have them interview you Karen about the way senior citizens are treated regarding their pain and waiting weeks for an appointment. That is not right..

Emma and I just got back from our afternoon walk. Thunder clouds building in the West but will probably just blow over. I have a wellness checkup tomorrow with my Doctor. Just to make sure I have all of my facilities above the neck. Thursday I have a plumber coming to fix a leak in a pool line that is above ground by the pumps and a garage door repairman to look at the door for the single car garage. Every time you close it, it sounds like it is going to explode. Our August looks like it is going to be in the 90s and 80s. Which would be wonderful. This weekend I will get my bed ready for winter vegetables. Winter flowers do not go in until end of October.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

My sister is having a so so day. She was having moderate pain, so she took some morphine and went to bed about an hour ago.
I will be flying home tomorrow afternoon. I will get back to Texas about 9:00 pm. That is if there are no flight delays.

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7b)

Boo & Pooh, love that, one of my dogs is named Boo, she is so smart. In the mornings, I get up, go fix my coffee, drink a few sips, & no matter where in the house she is, as soon as I start my steps to go sit down, she rushes to my chair & just stares at me saying I want my morning treat, which is actually supplements, and she doesn’t move until she gets them. Then, at about 8pm, both dogs come to me & sit & stare at me until I give them each 2 small saltine crackers each. Even after giving them 1 cracker, they won’t start eating until they get both their crackers, little piglets!

I’ve had several different jobs working in mental health, I hate labels so overlook how I use them here, just makes for faster writing, worked at group home for MR adults & volunteered while in college, help deinstitutionalize adults in long term psychiatric institutions or hospitals into various types of living arrangements, counselor at inpatient psych units, therapist at adult day programs. Also help build new location for Sunrise Community here in Knoxville TN, it was partly a result of all the abuse & neglect that had gone on in TN ‘s asylums for individuals with MR. These individuals had both mental illness & mental retardation, it was here that I realized they could be the most difficult to assist. It’s one thing to have just one of those diagnosis, but having both made it very challenging to assist someone when they were really upset & highly agitated, reasoning skills were just not there. I also worked with individuals with Alzheimer’s, found it very rewarding. Enough of me!

Bread pudding, is that just mixing up bread & pudding, & maybe raisins? I think I’ve had that, if not guess I’m missing out! I eat whatever my wife makes, but I’ll eat anything! I hope she doesn’t get to see this! She’s not into expanding her cooking skills, that’s how I’ll say it, but my son & I have been trying out new recipes over the last couple of years. I’d love to learn some new easy & delicious recipes if you have any. It seems that people in my family like mostly 1 pot meals, chili / shepherds pie / spaghetti / chicken pot pie / a big chicken salad / beans & cornbread / etc…Now I’m getting depressed!!!we’re just boring, guess it’s good I’m losing my taste buds!!!

Talking about making quilts out of clothes, that’s smart thinking, not just very practical but also sentimental. I have an old sewing machine & I know how to sew a straight line, maybe I should give it a try someday. I will add that my wife & I have had a few arguments about the quilts we have & how they are used. It all started with a nice quilt on our bed, some of the sewn tiny squares were starting to rip out of their threads, I mentioned to my wife that we shouldn’t be stuffing the quilt underneath the bottom of our mattress because if we pull on it will be pulling on the threads. Well, she likes it all tucked under, then WWlll! By the way, quilts came from my side of the family, so she says ok everyone, nobody allowed to use your dad’s quilts anymore. Oh how she can get on my nerves sometimes, but I guess I’ll keep her!

Ok, it’s late & off to bed I go!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Sharon, I’m sure you will pass your wellness checkup with flying colours. Cbd/thc helps me as well, the strongest of that the doctor suggested I take only when I am at my worse.your weather still is a tad high for me. Didn’t they repair the lines wh.en they just did all the work on the pond?

Lindakay, safe travels this morning, you are likely at the airport..can’t imagine how badly you must be feeling leaving your sister knowing likely it will be the last time you see her.your new puppy will be thrilled to see you

Can see Forest you are a lover of furries as well,

Evan just came 8n, have to leave

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, I don't fly out till tomorrow at 2:30pm.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Sorry Linda Kay I had looked up at the timestamp and I guess from it I assumed you meant it was today and took it for granted that it was p.m. vs am..again safe travels.

If you remember, I mentioned that yesterday I called for a an eye appointment, Darlene recommended her, I called and got one this morning at 11:45am. This doctor is well known in the area so thought it seemed a blessing I needed.

Was odd when Dr. Fujimotto said to her assistant that she had booked 1 1/2 hrs to do various testing, putting me through all the tests she could do, hmm that seemed unusual as I only asked the secretary for eye examination, trying to rule out a few things before Dr. Land calls end of month. During our conversation I said that Darlene has recommended her, she said I know, Darlene had called and made arrangements that if I called would they give me her appointment, drats, she is having major eye surgery next month, she needed that appointment but no they switched Darlene to test me.

Didn’t know there were so many machines, not a wonder the testing comes at a high cost. She asked me a bit of my history, Re my falling a lot, having these minor and major dizzies. in the one exam she said that my accident and brain bleed had caused some problems but I’ve managed to deal with them as when she did other testing what she could do to help didn’t seem to be an option, said it would like putting on an arm sling and arm getting used to it and not exercising it. She also said that she did a lot of prism testing that should have brought on the dizziness that I am having but didn’t. I need less strength in glasses, said likely that is why i preferred wearing my old glasses.

So ✔️ eyes as the root of my problem which isn’t the problem.
Told her I have appointment next week for ears and equilibrium and infection. I’ve been taking readings Re my high blood pressure, that seems to be ok so on to the next. She said if that isn’t problem should ask my doctor to test for seepage of blood which can sometimes happen after brain bleed..

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

WOW Betty, your MD did a great job of testing & explaining. That was very generous of your friend Darlene to switch appointments.

Forest, your mental health experience, while varied, hardly overlaps with mine at all. While in Idaho, they opened opiate treatment with methadone clinics and had a severe shortage of qualified personnel. I got my "QP" by working under a licensed drug & alcohol counselor for 6 months since I already had my masters in psych. I also worked inpatient briefly for D&A. When I moved back to WA the state did not recognize my drug & alcohol license. Taking more school AND a cut in pay didn't make any sense so I did not pursue it. While doing mental health work, I was assigned the dual diagnosis clients, those with mental health Dx and addiction problems, much the same as you got the mentally ill with mental retardation.

Safe travels Linda / Taters 55, you and your family continue to be in my prayers. May whatever time your sister has left be quality time with reduced pain.

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7b)

Pat, drugs & alcohol was one area I stayed away from, I’m an extremely patient person, my peers always commented on how calm I was during a crisis, but I never had patience for the addicts, still don’t, I understand it but felt I had nothing to offer in treatment, always felt the best counselors etc…, were the ones who had been there done that.

Bought a couple more cacti couple of weeks ago, overwatered them and now having to deal with that. Why did I do that, I know better, I’d kick myself hard in the rear end if I could .

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Thank you Pat.
Getting things washed, and repacking suit case. Why is it we always have more to pack when returning home.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Linda K/ Taters55, one of the mysteries of life? I keep the things that I need go to my sons in a guest closet. That is my way of TRYING to get everything together and gone when we come or go. to each other's house. THIS trip Kevin needed to take 8 cases of Fairlife home with him & deliver 3 cases of a brand of pop to me! Product that was NOT available where we live.

Forest/ hollow, it used to be D&A counselors were ALWAYS "BTDT" people. This is no longer true for many reasons. When a newly assigned client would express that opinion, I would ask them if they wanted to be a better addict or a happier, clean & sober person? I had experience with THAT! Expecting D& A counselor to be addicts in recovery is a bit like expecting all Ob/GYN MDs to be women since they are the only ones with vaginas. Since I was working in a methadone clinic and they were coming daily voluntarily & paying $40 per week, you have to assume they WANT to overcome their addiction. In the beginning we are seeing the clients DAILY. The methadone took away their physical cravings & eliminated withdraw so they could work on their coping skills to help them overcome the REASONS for their addiction. I liked the job at the clinic, by definition they were in recovery, and I had a strong desire to help them.

My sister Marie was at the walk-in clinic and they claim she does NOT have a UTI. She is feeling physically a little better & they are doing further testing. She needs to have the bladder repair done and can now. Her blood pressure is back into normal range now too with Phil's passing.

Pat, loved that analogy you used about the OBGYN, made me laugh, & I think you may even be right about it. It also made me think about something my wife & I recently discussed, & I know no one here is going to side with me. As a guy, when I go to see a doctor, I don’t want to see a female, especially if it has anything to do with being a male, main reason is I’m very old fashioned and just don’t feel comfortable with it, how can someone understand a body part they don’t have. My wife has probably already said it all, & it does make sense, but it’s not gonna happen to me if I can prevent it. When a guy sees a doctor and he needs to get undressed, doesn’t matter if partially or fully, most often he’s just left naked. Having a female nurse with them is bad enough. Kinda got off subject but it’s my thoughts for today.

Forest, yet men will 95% of the time choose a female caregiver!!! The male caregivers have an awful time finding clients!!! Let's face it, we all should just go with what we are comfortable with, logical or not. Not too many things make a person feel more vulnerable than having their clothes taken away! Don't even get me started on masseuses!

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7b)

Oh, but I do want to get you started with masseuses! I have even ask my doctor if it was necessary for him to have his nurse present, they always insist it’s needed, I’ve even told him I could squirt some lubricant out of the tube for him, I think they’re just afraid of potential lawsuits, people sue for anything & everything nowadays, ridiculous. Usually it’s not even a nurse that comes into the room with a doctor, nowadays it could be anyone even office staff.

Your right about male caregivers, I wish it wasn’t that way for them.

I’m on my soapbox now, another thing I don’t like is when I make an appointment to see a doctor, go for my visit, wait around forever sometimes, and then when I’m called back, it’s not the doctor but his PA or nurse practitioner, and they’re unable to address my concerns fully & then schedule me back to see the actual doctor when he’s available. Some are good but not all of them.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Want to swear, I am shaking..

HEARD what i thought was thunder, came upstairs, neighbour to my right was shot.
I live in a small town, quiet town, always left doors open etc.

Last month 3 doors up the street someone was shot, he was lucky, police said that likely it was a wrong house targeted and whoever did shooting will be back..

Ambulance was putting Jamie in the ambulance, it didn’t move for a bit, maybe they were working on him.

Police came in, said lock all your doors, stay away front front windows
They are looking for a black Honda accord, who ever shot Jamie they said was dressed in black and wore a mask.

Hollow - I agree. Supposed to see the Dr, but a PA is who comes. I've been seeing that a lot lately. Maybe they're afraid of getting sued, or it's interrupting their golf game lol
Betty - sorry about your pain.
I'm starting to walk through town in the morning - good exercise - but getting quite the education. I saw the beginning of a sink hole in the street so let our County office know. The other day a resident told me that I need to tell the County about the state of the sidewalks (they're terrible, causing flooded basements). Today I started chatting with a resident about her dad (in hospital and coming home soon, she hopes) and then I got told about what's wrong with the streets, sidewalks, and the state of the rocks in the street (no, we don't have a street sweeper) that fly through her window, breaking them. I called our counsellor & she said that residents need to talk to her so she can create the appropriate work orders. The sinkhole will be fixed asap. The sidewalks.......... well, don't know who will look into the repairs, but the County will see what can be done.
I'm drained.......
Now, time to go to the Library & weed out old books.

Betty, that’s horrible, make sure you have everything locked, and have a weapon close by too. Do the police think the suspect is still in the neighborhood? Just make sure you protect yourself & stay away from windows. I’d probably call later & ask police about when’s it safe to get out of your house. Take care.
