Good morning everyone. The dull day is partially due to the smoke. Yesterday I started out to walk without a mask. The walk was cut short.
Deb I love the name Bruiser and puppy daddy's colouring. How are things going this week?
Eww Betty poison ivy. I managed to get a wild parsnip burn on my leg and boy it is itchy. Hope your poison ivy clears up soon.
LK it must be very interesting sitting in the tattoo shop. I can just imagine all the stories you will hear.
Be good to yourself everyone.
Best/Worse/What did I learn today? Drop in, walk our gardens, come sit awhile…
I learned a lot today!
Wavewilderness, tell us about yourself. Your name, where you live, hobbies? Gardening, quilting...
Betty, thst poison ivy is horrible stuff. Praying it gets better soon.
Wind is blowing the other way Dianne so smoke is not a problem today.
Know poison ivy is spreading because i am itchy all over, any good remedies? wild parsnip?? Will have to look it up. Bought some cotton makeup pads, read to put luke warm water into baking powder and debit on..worth a try. Will be busy on the lake i am sure with it being Canada Day long weekend. Lots of ears in the area.
Yes please, wildwilderness, tell us about yourself.
Lindakay what is the oddest thing you heard at the tattoo parlour lol??
Filled tub with hot water, off to soak then wash the clothes I had on today and the towels
@wavewilderness - you don't have to be specific about where you live - Canada/US, prairies/mountains, city/rural...........
I'm in Canada, near the mountains, but far enough that we still have prairies:)
A lot of people here have their families as their hobby - parents. grandkids, siblings, kids. My family is almost halfway across Canada, so I don't see them much.
My hobbies are gardening, quilting, the Senior Centre that I'm president of and Wellness for which I'm secretary/treasurer. I live in a tiny hamlet. I'm making a baby quilt atm.
Crawfordsville look like a very small town. Near rivers. in 2010 census they had a population of 332. Same as my home town of Pioche, NV.
I had a long post but left to look up Crawfordsville and lost my post.
So I will check in tomorrow. All is well here. Did just about nothing today. Betty, that poison ivy looks nasty. Pat, good luck. Cats are easy just do not let him out because he will not recognize the scents and get lost.
Tattoo shops are like hair salons. Customers seem to talk about everything. Good marriages, bad marriages, jobs. Lots of personal stuff.
Raining and expected to rain right through our Canada long weekend.which will be quite a disappointment to all.
Glad i cut all the grass grass yesterday, not that it needed it, was caught up as i wash everything Re poison ivy, do have to vacuum and vacuum couch as i tried the good old method of baking sofa with a tad of warm water and dabbed in on all the areas, i am amazed at how dry those areas are this morning so i won’t have a bath this morning, you all know me and my baths but will forgo this morning and do another treatment.
I have young Maddy coming this morning at 10 so maybe the new treatment will have dried and fallen off by then (it’s like baby powder when dries) and save myself two vacuums.
I bought wool a week or so again to make a chemo hat, with all this rain perhaps i can get it started if not done..
Pat, much like a bartender right. I know nothing about tattoos, does the person who is coming ie for a coloured one get it done in one sitting?
Susan, very well said.
I like Susan am from Canada. Ontario, lots of lakes. Enjoy all crafts, common one with some of the ladies here is quilting, although sewing/quilting. Is getting more difficult for us.
I am on my horn, hubby passed 32 years ago, 2 boys, 4 grandsons and 1 great grandson, love them all but you would think someone could have had a girl.
Best I get a move on, there is an extra donated sewing machine here, will make sure it works and if so give it to Maddy.
Maddy lost her little sister 4 years ago to leukaemia, she would have graduated last night. Maddy and her family went to watch her friends graduate , must have been hard for them all. On the graduation stage was a beautiful photo of her sister..
Wouldn’t mind having pancakes but always think it’s a lot of work for one. I should have bought toaster ones…put that on my list .
Deb, how are the puppies and mommy of course?
Pat, bet you are anxious to get home. Did you go for light or dark finish?
Sharon, i do that so often, think i want to look at a photo and there goes my post. Hope you are spending more time inside than outside with your high temps. Thankfully your water system is working and you don’t have to worry about watering.
What plans does everyone have for today?
Everyone's doing good here. Charlotte is a great mom!
Working from home today. I've only been working half days in the office, half days at home since the babies were born, but, they're redoing our parking lot at work and parking will be limited, so it was suggested I just work all day from home. Plus, it's a 4 day weekend, we get July 3rd and 4th off, so that will be nice! Nice no driving time, I started working half hour earlier, so will be free after 2pm!
Welcome Wavewilderness! I hope you come & stay, we would love to have you join us permanently. I am 68 YO, I am a widow of 3 years now, we were happily married for under 14 years. I have 4 sons, & 3 step daughters, all are married. Between my late 2nd husband Ben and I, we have 10 grandchildren. The only girls in the bunch are ones we married in.
I sew, mostly quilting now & my sister Marie is my best friend. She owns a longarm quilting machine which we both use. I have had my youngest and his family living with me the last 2 years and they have recently moved out. I am working to repair & renew my house. I garden, enjoy DIY projects, I love to read & spoil my cat Stanley.
I will driving to Prosser (an hour away) to purchase a used gray electric recliner that has heat & massage. I will have to keep it IN my car until at least tomorrow morning as I can't go into my house yet. The floors are light/medium. The house was built in maybe 60's and the floor was not intended to be anything but underlayment for carpet. The floor is made up of "shorts", pieces cut about 18 inches long and the colors are varied. The overall color would be about oak but lots of variety to it.
The house will be HOT and stinky but the floors will be cured Saturday morning and I have asked for help getting some of my stuff moved back in that afternoon. I will work at airing it out, then close it up and turn on the A/C which needed to remain off during the curing of the Swedish floor finish. I CAN'T wait to finally start moving my stuff in!
Getting a tattoo done in one visit depends on the person, place of tattoo and the size of the tattoo. Some areas if the body are a lot more tender than others. The outline is always done first, then any grey shading, then the color. Most will sit for 6 or more hours to get it finished. A few will come back later.
Early morning calls aren’t the best
Suzanne’s Lenny died last night..Lindakay you met her on our trip to Texas..she is Roger’s sister, the one I travel with all the time.
Just got back..he was dealing with lung cancer issues since September, did all the traditional chemo/radiation etc. then this spring he was having seizures, tested him and it was a growth near his brain but not cancerous, had to deal with his cancer issues 1st.
Started where is was having more issues and bad days than good. Danielle moved back from Costa Rica and made an apartment downstairs with her family soLenny had great care.
Yesterday Lenny’s oxygen was up and down a lot, he was on oxygen machine, last night he wasn’t well, she wanted to know if he wanted to go to hospital but he said no, went to go to washroom, she heard him have difficulties so she rushed to him, he couldn’t breath, turned purple, Suzanne held onto him while Danielle came upstairs and he passed away.
He didn’t want a funeral just be cremated.
We will go for supper one night next week..Danielle went and picked up Brian and so when they came in I left.
Good cry is what I need..
I am so sorry, Betty. Prayers for everyone who knew and loved him.
Prayers for Suzanne & all his family/friends. A good cry is just what's needed atm, Betty
Trying to find my hairdresser's ph# - I NEED to get my hair cut today. I'm looking so shaggy lol
I'm so sorry Betty. Would Lenny have considered it a blessing? Prayers for peace for you and the rest of the family.
Most likely he would Pat, one can only fight so long.
Thanks Deb and Susan
Off to take a bath and get fresh cornstarch on. Grrr
So sorry to hear that Betty. Sending our condolences and prayers.
Pat, thanks for the photo of yourself. Love those quilts. And your landscaping.
Emma and I are inside. Just to hot to be outside. We finally reached 100 degrees. Pool is just about filled, will be by tomorrow. Pool guy was moaning about losing two months of work while my pool was being redone so I offered him a job cleaning out the KOI pond filter. He bit and 2 hours later, the sand was removed, new sand put in and a new gasket and all is running well. He left with $200 and I have a terrible job done that would have taken me hours.
Betty so sorry about your loss. When we get to be our age, and you all are much younger, deaths from friends and family come more frequently. So pleased your poison ivy is drying up. What you should do with the pancakes is make a large batch, cool them off, place paper towel between each pancake and put in freezer back and put in the freezer. I do that occasionally for my step son, who is still living with me. I actually try to make them smaller than normal. That way you know what is in them. I used to have pancakes with two eggs over medium on the top, cutting the egg so it would ooze down the sides of the pancakes and then add maple syrup. I actually like having pancakes for dinner. One of my favorite dinners is popcorn. Make my own in an aluminum pan. Salt but no butter.
Deb, good opportunity to work half days with the new babies. Mom and dad are both beautiful. It will be so interesting to see how the puppies develop. Please keep us posted.
Pat, those lilies are beautiful. You are like me, do not know how to take a photo of myself. But you look great. You are so blessed to have Mary and like wise. How did the night go with the cat and dog. So awaiting the reveal of your home when you are back in and all is to your liking.
Linda, I am shocked what my manicurist tells me about people I know. I make sure I do not tell her anything I do not want the world to know.
Stay safe Betty.
I agree Sharon. So many just want to gossip.
Boy, I don't think of Canada when I think or tornados! Praying all safety!
Sharon I have seen the wisdom of NOT sharing anything, whether you think you have protected the identity or not. To share with the NAMES is worse than shameful!
I had to keep Stanley in the bedroom to keep all pets safe & sane. I tried bringing Stanley out in my arms but Marie's labordoodle immediately came to say hello & Stanley freaked.
Headed out to my house now 5AM, contractor meets me at 7AM. At 9AM I have some volunteers from my church to help move my furniture back in. I will still have LOTS of work to do. I still have curtains to hem & hang, baseboard to paint & install, painting in the entry etc. It's going to be a while before my house is really back togrther. !
Sounds like you are getting so close to being done.
Betty - glad to hear your poison ivy is getting better.
Pat - soon you'll be able to forget what the place looked like before, when it was taken over by dogs & other messes! Lovely that your church friends are able to help move furniture!
On July 6th Dianne & I are going to Devon, and staying overnight, to see the Devonian Gardens (University of Alberta Botanical Gardens is what they call it now). I've wanted to see them for 17 years, and now I finally can thanks to my daughter's Mother's Day gift :)
We were 95F degrees at noon. To hot to be outside. Not even a hint of a breeze. Miss Emma has hidden her cooling scarf. It is bright pink and not hard to spot. If I take it off of her I hang it on my walker. I use a walker in my house because my home is very large and it is quite a haul from the kitchen to my bedroom. And I use it as a carrying tool. I have another walker I use outside to help e haul or move items that are heavy. My pool is done and filled with water and the pool guy came by this morning and brushed down the pool. Has to be done twice a day. I think I can do it, but we shall see. After replacing the sand and cleaning the KOI pond filter yesterday, the KOI pond is getting so clear.
Pat, I am so pleased you are getting help. And you will get it done in no time.
Susan, that sounds like a nice trip. My son took me to an arboretum in the Cleveland when I as visiting him during his residency for his MD. The azaleas and rhododendrons were in full bloom. I spoke with a young man that had the job of removing all of the spent blooms every mid morning. He had like a golf cart hauling a small open trailer and it was packed with spent blooms. There were over 100 of each plant and they were enormous.
Betty, what are you up to today.
Linda, I found out from my manicurist that the young lady that grew up next door, and her parents still do, had cancelled her wedding and broke up with the guy after dating for over 4 years.. Wedding was half planned. Oh well, better to find out before the wedding instead of after. I never did find out what happened because when I made it evident I did not know what had happened, she shut up.
I am going to try and do a little gardening when it is dusk. Last night our low was 83. But if the sun is not blaring down on you, that is easy.
Susan, that sounds so nice! Enjoy!
We got lots done, I still have that beastly sofa to move. I did not have the manpower for that. Oh well.... Marie got all the beds made up. It is starting to shape up. I really wanted to get the curtains done but just didn't get that far yet. The biggest drawback is not having the baseboards done.
Marie fixed an awesome shrimp hot sandwich, we just finished dinner and I'm going to load up my cat and head for home. I am TIRED. I will sleep in the master bedroom tonight!!
Enjoy your trip Susan.
Sharon, I wish I had half the energy you and Betty have.
Pat, congratulations on getting your home back.
Getting things packed fir our 11:30 flight to Maryland, to take Todd's ashes home to Maryland. We will be there a week, so I can also visit his stomping grounds, see the statue of liberty and the East coast. I have never been there. We will be back home on the 8th.
Have a safe trip LindaKay. The east coast is lovely (at least what I've seen of it), I hope you have an enjoyable time.
Susan, the botanical gardens sound lovely. I hope you will share some photos with us.
Morning, so much going on haven been up to posting
I’ll start with last night, although firecrackers were banned people still decided to have a display, Lordy wasn’t even dark when they started..watched then fell asleep, i awoke to 5-6 bangs, knew it wasn’t firecrackers but gun shots more likely.
Looked out from bedroom windows it sounded like it was just in front of me, within five minutes police car flooded area. Isn’t on deck and listened but couldn’t make out anything.
Got up at six and still a lot of police cars, house taped up, measuring from house to Park street, 3 houses in length, i asked a lady policemen’s if all ok, she said a policeman would drop in.shortly after teams with search dogs were out checking my ditch drains, and flower bed, guess to find out if someone threw out the gun.
Still don’t know if and if so how many died..nice quiet couple..daughter graduated Friday, parents work from home..
So now I wait for officer
Good afternoon everyone.
Well yesterday was quite the day weather wise. We had sun, showers, hail then heavy rain, a thunder storm which turned into a tornado warning. I am so glad the TH are not bothered by thunder. There was several boomers that made the house shake. The sky was almost black at 1 point.
I went to cut what I have for lawn and couldn't do it. It was a sea of white daisies - what a beautiful sight.
Betty I heard something about your area's police presence on the news. I looked for you to be interviewed on the TO's eleven pm news.
Oh Pat I can feel your excitement through your post about sleeping in your house with no one but Stanley around.
Had ice cream for dinner last night. I could hear Warren saying 'hey that's my favourite thing for dinner.
My American neighbours are up with lots of guests. 3 extra cars/trucks coming past the house. Must be a sign of them getting older as they are not loud as in the past. The TH were not too happy about it all. They think they own all this land down here. When I walked them yesterday they were quite peeved as I didn't take them on their regular path.
Had my Sat. night entertainment with the PBS out of either Spoken or Seattle. Music from the 70's. I had seen these 2 before but the music is so good to listen to I just listened while I read.
Safe travel LK.
How are the pups doing Deb ? I have the itch to get another Rotti pup.
Be good to yourselves.
So. Hot, dry and humid..called for rain all weekend but didn’t get any, moved to Dianne’s I guess.
With all going on since thursday and the calling for rain I did not water. Looked at my big pots of flowers, almost dead so i shocked them by setting in pond for an hour, let’s hope it revives them.
Got home after being at Suzanne’s for 5 hours and layed on couch before saw Kyle pull up with his tow truck, apparently a car that was falling apart got stopped by police that were here all day, she driver had no permit, so Kyle was impounding..
He gabbed to police awhile, before he left he said police think wrong house was picked..little while ago got message from Kyle..
Had enough for last 4 days..will chat tomorrow
Busy week - yesterday went to Canada celebrations (potluck dinner at the Community Centre), found out my dear friend Una was in palliative care, then camped overnight with Dianne in her motorhome. This morning I joined our choir that sang at another church with our church. Afterwards I found out that Una passed away last night. Gathering donations for a floral tribute for Una.
I'm so sorry for your loss, Susan.
Betty, that is so scary. I hope all is OK. Maybe you need to go stay with someone for a few days until this is all over with.
Susan, sounds like you had fun! Good for you.
Betty, staying elsewhere sounds like a good idea but.... I wouldn't bet on you doing it!
I know what you mean , sometimes I eat something special and think of Ben and smile,
Dianne... uh oh... getting puppy fever!! I hear there is only ONE cure! Let me know what you name your new pup! LOL
Linda, enjoy your trip and soak in all the good memories.
Last night my neighbors Jack & Merilyn with grandkids came and moved my big couch. It got a battle scar or 2 but they were repairable & in one case underneath. I also got the "Pantry" that I made hauled out to the road, my white dresser moved back into the master bedroom AND the additional dresser moved into place to take it's place in the sewing room. LOTS of headway last night and I have BIG hopes for today.
Una was a very dear, dear, dearr friend. She was my 1st true friend in my new community. She will be sorely missed.
It's tough to lose a good friend, I am sorry for your loss.
Sorry for your loss Susan.
