Best/Worse/What did I Learn today? Come sit a spell, a place where friends meet & share! All newcomers welcome..

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Susan, sometimes it's hard to give up things that we "don't need" but still are attached to. I am sure the extra room will be a nice bonus for you.

Karen, yesterday must have been the day "for it" as Marie had a rather harsh conversation with Phil as well. Today was better I hear.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, rained most of the night, trying to clear up but weather liars say rain this afternoon and maybe some snow in the mix..
Was 78°f yesterday right now 43°f, not a wonder many have colds. Next 2 weeks mostly rain so cleaning inside so I can enjoy the outside is my plan.

Susan that is a large piece, hope your acquaintance will take it and put it to good use.you can then make it your happy room,

Hugs Karen, were you a good patient for Walt?? Maybe if not you can acknowledge and remind Walt of how he must have felt when all he wanted was your best he might
Do as recommended if that makes sense.

Lindakay are you catching up on rest? when does your sister arrive?

Busy day, 9:00-11:00 am I am doing a bankruptcy application review on an old file I worked on. 3:30-6:00 i have Vanessa and Brianna for sewing
Then to the funeral home to give condolence to Aunt Blanche’s family, share memories. She belonged to the Catholic Women’s Auxiliary for 77 years, her joy was cook8ng and quilting.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Yes, I am finally able to get a good night's sleep. My sister will be here on the 12th. Day before the memorial. Spending about 6 days here, then another 5 days wither ger son that lives an hour north.

Verona, ON

Crazy mixed up weather here. Much like Betty's. It was 80* yesterday and today mid 30's.

My eyes are mixed up today. It is hard to get things in focus enough to read. Tried 2 different strength glasses. It's not the first time so will see the NeuroOptha doc in May. My appointment this month was cancelled.

Karen I understand you having to set Walt straight. I had to get right cranky with Warren as he wouldn't take his meds but was complaining to me that he hurt. Men !!

It's still raining so the TH won't get a walk until this afternoon. Betty it looks like my weather is the same as yours - rain off and on all week.

Stay safe and well.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Three days in the 80s and snow today.
Betty actually they worked me harder in the hospital. I had to make goals and walk the halls so many times a day. Only problem I had was throwing up almost every thing I tried to eat.
He definitely tried harder yesterday and is trying to do more today.. Two of his therapists and a nurse is coming today. He is still having a hard time with holding fluid. Dr did up his dosage of Lasix but who ever called it in called the wrong meds. I had to call today for them to correct it. Glad our daughter is staying here for a few days. Can sure use the help

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Goodness.... certainly does bring back memories of Ben getting chewed out by the home nurse during a home visit. She told him that she was going to terminate his services as noncompliant if he didn't get his act together and follow instructions. She did what I could NOT! She got him to comply! And wonders of wonders, he got better! LOL He was convinced that staying in bed with his leg elevated would not help cure the infection. When he actually did it, he got better and Nurse made a believer out of him.
Weather here has been very moderate but rainy. I don't do well in damp weather.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Drats,drats drats
Brian came and fixed a few things, Sharon had mentioned last week reason Brian didn’t want to do the ceiling 8n woodworking room was because of insulation etc.

I didn’t realize until today that he would come today and will come tomorrow or I would have had ceiling that was up there painting terrible blue out. While he was working on another area, i took the 3 step ladder and started, not as easy as one would think, got a big piece down, forgot it was 3 steps, got off at 2, fell and hit directly across the back..Brian was not happy..told me to get upstairs and if he needs me he will call me.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, you need to be careful. Hope you are not in too much pain.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Oh Betty, I am so sorry. Stepping off early is such a risk!! I think we probably have all done that at one time or another.

Today marked the spring pilgrimage to the nursery department of all stores. I stopped at 3 stores today!!! Before I left the last one, it started to rain hard so not planting today. I SHOULD, this would be perfect weather for the plants... but I can't seem to make myself go out there again. If I don't buy Sweet Potato vine when I see it, I won't get any! Been there, done that more than once. It seems no matter how many I buy, I decide I want MORE. It matures and spreads so pretty, it was one of Ben's favorites.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sweet potato vines are so pretty.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

I have been working non stop but finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. My coleus order came today and will be planted tomorrow. 25 plants. Tomatoes are finally planted and all of the pots I redid the soil in are back in their place and the majority are planted. I had a few irrigation problems and had my garden helper fix it.

I love sweet potato vines. I have not planted any this year. I had a wonderful dinner at my daughters yesterday. Those two GGC are just adorable and being able to see them once a week is priceless. They will be moving to Arizona Mid May to get their new home in order. I think GSIL starts Mayo first part of July. Other GD has her baby boy in July so we will have another one to get joy from. At least they will be in Arizona, not Missouri. Phoenix is about a 45 Minute flight from here.

Karen, My DH got fired by one cardiologist, one physical therapy clinic and was close to lose another doctor when he refused to do any of the work he was suppose to do when he was in rehab. He was always looking for "the magic pill". And there is no magic pill.

Linda, I pray everything is coming together for all of your memorial plans.

Betty, I cannot believe you got on a ladder. That is something I will never do again. Very tempted but cannot take the risk. I know too many individuals that have gotten really hurt from accidents from a ladder.

Pat, your shopping trip sounds like fun.

Diane, I have double vision some times. I told the eye doctor and he just blew it off. But that was after my examine.

Good Morning to all of you. We were 81 today. Breezy.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

81??? Now that is downright mean!!! LOL

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, 33°F, imagine 80F° one day and now this, back to wearing winter clothing.
Ooops Brian is here, best I get him supplies and my list of to do’
Didn’t sleep well last night

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Sorry you did not sleep well, hopefully tonight will be a better night sleep and today Brian will get lots of work done!

I hope to get all my flowers planted today and more weeding.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

oh Betty! Have you stiffened up? I still get on full ladders. Haven't yet, this year, but know that if I'm in my back yard on a ladder, there is no one to "spot" me, nor would anyone see or hear me if I fell. Ah well, it's part of living in a rural area with distances between homes a good distance. I have an ICE friend (in case of Emergency) and I guess I should take my cell phone with me when I do such things. I always forget.
I caught a mouse Sunday night, scooped it & the trap into an old Tupperware container, then into a plastic grocery bag & outside in the yard. It was still alive but I wasn't taking the chance I did last time, when it didn't die & got free back into the house. Nasty disease-ridden critters!! They give me the creeps, and we live near a farmer's field.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Yep, all mice are evil!! lol

I used to beg Ben to keep his phone on him ALWAYS, into the bathroom etc. You can't call for help if you don't have your phone. I made him a little pocket kind of thing on fleece strap to wear around his neck. He did not have to have pockets then. I made a few more my client's as well.

Verona, ON

Betty, Betty, Betty when are you going to learn that step stools and ladders are not meant for us. I fell off a ladder 1 too many times so I avoid them altogether.

Cold day here with lots of wind.

Zeke got himself trapped under the wooden slats in his enclosure. Nyla the chocolate Lab was down here barking and he was trying to get out to her. Dawn was here cleaning and happened to open the door and saw the predicament Zeke was in. It took both of us to free him. I took Nyla home, knocked on the door and when answered I said "here's your dog she was wrecking havoc at my place". I said "if Zeke is hurt I will be coming to see you." I feel bad for the dog but she can't keep coming down here and wander around willy nilly. Zeke was starting to panic and hyperventilating. He was fine but slept all afternoon.

Karen how are you and Walt doing ?

LK how are you doing? Glad you are going to Michigan.

Just lost my power - I might be in for a long night.

Stay safe and well.

Victoria Harbour, ON

If you can believe it, starting to blow and snowing…uhhhh

No, I am fine, just finding there aren’t enough hours in the day, no sooner do I sit that my head gets so heavy I can barely keep my eyes open.

Brian did a great job on the ceiling in woodworking room and installed peg on the wall..now to buy some metal hooks so I can hang some tools. My job tomorrow is clean the mess downstairs but I am pleased all the ceilings are done.

Susan, i wouldn’t be able to touch the mice in traps, barely get them in garbage when Ziggy gets them, of course we’ve had non this year so far.

Poor Zeke, glad he wasn’t injured. Doesn’t he usually o for walks with Nyla?
If you haven’t gotten snow yet Dianne it’s on its way.

Falling asleep here sitting on the couch, must make my way to bed

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Poor Zeke, not fun being tormented by neighbor's dog!

I got a lot planted and weeded, going back out but I have a church meeting to attend in 30 minutes. I am only going to do a quick clean up, I did not finish all the weeding or planting, BIG dent though!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I hope Zeke wasn't injured too bad.
I am not going to Michigan. My sister from Michigan is coming to Texas for the memorial service.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

I got my coleus planted and strawberry tree moved to larger pot. Planted some dahlias I got at half price. The hardy hibiscus are showing their first growth and the strawberries are setting on fruit. Am just about done until Mid May. Then the spring flowers will be struggling and plants that can take the heat are planted. Vinca and Pentas hold up the best.

I am filling the hummingbird feeders every two days. They are really active. Must be mating.

I will come back in the morning. Need to get to bed. Good night and Good morning.....

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Poor Zeke! Glad you got him out & hope he's settled down.

I won't touch a mouse in a trap........ live OR dead. When I threw the plastic bag over him, I scooped it and the mouse, trap, and tupperware were all together. No touchee by me! ewwww Living by myself, and it being at night, I had no choice. It was either that, or chance it getting free & staying in the house. No siree, not happening, so I had no choice. Guess there are few things I have to learn to do, as I live alone. The budgies can't help me lol

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Isn't THAT the truth! Sometimes we all " do what we gotta do".

Victoria Harbour, ON

Cool side today, nee about a week to catch up with cleaning.

I went to bed at 8:30 last night, watched a few mom movies and so i didn’t take my sleeping pill til 11..1st time in years i think that i went into a deep sleep and woke at 9, as is my daily routine, turned on the bath while I made my bed, got the bed done and Marie was at the door, told her i was jus t about to take a bath, she asked me if she should wait, I said i was going to do mega cleaning and rearranging in the woodworking room, she looked at her watch and said ok, i will be back around 10…grrr

No sooner did i have my bath i got a call to tell me an old friend died last night, on phone with her when Marie came in. Big sigh..so noon came when she left, there went the morning. Did get the room all organized and it was 2, plans were to sweep up craft room but nope I got in involved in a bit of transplanting, dividing seed growth, earth all over, came upstairs and got tonight’s eats on, will have to turn stove off b3cause Peighton will be here in a few minutes..haven t eaten breakfast or lunch so starting to want to eat but no time.

Read all your posts and will get back on when I’ve eaten after class to respond.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

oh Betty - you need to eat regular meals! Even if you had something to eat while relaxing in your bath! You don't have a shower like everyone else seems to do? I prefer baths, but sometimes (as you say) "no time" so a shower has to do.
I didn't realize I had to "save" my alarm on my cell, so I woke up at 9:50am (sleep at 2am, so that's about right). I was supposed to leave at 8am to pick up a friend & take her with me to Foot Care. Phoned her, dashed out the door, went to her town & gased up then picked her up. Off to another town for footcare, then back home. Tonight another friend & I are going to a Volunteer Retention light supper & seminar. Tomorrow I have to go back to that same town @10am and speak to a manager about a Community BBQ this summer, then at 1pm I preside over our Senior's monthly meeting.
Tomorrow morning I have my Zoom meeting, then meeting my cousin Cher in Calgary for lunch (haven't seen her since before we moved to Torrington in 2016).
Spoke to my mechanic about a service call he needs me to do this Spring. When I have time, he says LOL ummmm when would that be? I'll figure something out
Last night (after our Tuesday afternoon group) Dianne & I went to Olds to play Crib. We won 2nd, so $50 between us. Not a bad deal! Mostly paid for my footcare cost of $36!

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Not the day I had planned. I was going to spend the whole day with Marie but Phil's brother died this morning. He lived alone, never married, never had kids and his SisIL Carol has been helping him with groceries and MD appointments. It will be a nightmare to clear that house out and put it up for sale. I don't know how much of the "finial arrangements" they managed to get done before Paul passed. Paul was the youngest of the 4 brothers.

I hired my helper this afternoon for just an hour. I had him putting on the splitter and all 4 hoses, testing them. I have one soaker house to replace, it sprung a BIG leak. I finished getting all the flowers I bought in the ground, I transplanted a few tulips and got everything finished weeding before he came. I will hurt like crazy tomorrow.

I had Gabe take out some of the heavy stuff out to my car including my traveling sewing machine & portable table in preparation for Friday's travel.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Pat - I know of someone who passed away like that (my former BIL), but no one had anything to do with him - he died alone & wasn't found for 4 days. He chased everyone away. So sad when people die alone like that.
I guess tomorrow's a day for a long hot bath eh? Or maybe tonight before you go to bed would be better.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, overcast and cold this morning..calling for 50°f but I am sure it will never reach it.

Condolences Pat, was he the same brother that was in same facility as Phil.
Will be a real mess I am sure for those looking after his affairs.

Glad you have someone you can call in to make things easier for you..tomorrow is d day, hope your vacation is still a go.

Susan I do have a shower with pulse unit on it but i dislike showers so continue with my baths. How do you keep everything organized, don’t think I could keep everything in order with that many organizations, lunches etc.did I miss it, did the lady come and get the piano? Great win..when I was a newlywed and lived next door to my in-laws I’d not sooner get home home they would be calling us over for cards..I got to hate playing, if I didn’t want to play, I would get “guess we can’t play then seeing as Betty doesn’t want to play.

Sharon, sure give you credit for all you do in garden, just trying to grow from seed is time consuming.I will buy different coleus when it’s ok to have them outside. Remember that giant of a coleus Greg gave me, well this gall I let it die, nowhere in the house to keep it.
Aren’t you lucky to have so many hummers, i bought a pretty hummingbird feeder, filled it but I am sure they won’t be in out area for awhile..will clean and refill this weekend. Haven’t put out the butterfly feeders though.

Dianne, bet you’ve a fire on to take the chill out of the air.. brrr
How is Zeke doing

Update when you get a sec Karen

Deb, Judy and Liz how are you filling in your day??

Best I get back to cleaning downstairs ..my ‘ to do today’ is clean track on my chair lift so I will work my way downstairs, one step at time and oil.

Made a coffee and headed downstairs, did some replanting of seedlings, they are now all over on my laundry room. Did learn one thing, NOT to plant vine plants so early, broke half untangling them.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

They found Paul's old will, but he had said over and over, he wanted to change it to make his 3 brothers share the inheritance evenly. He never got it changed. It will be a nightmare. One of the people named, they are going to have trouble FINDING him. They think it was a drinking buddy from YEARS ago. He stopped drinking several years ago after a hospitalization. YIKES...
.
Paul was one of the 3 brothers in Canyon Lakes. That leaves Phil & Mike. Bill is NOT in facility and so far in good health. I hope Phil & Mike will be well enough to at least attend the funeral.

I found a platform twin bed for sale $25. I am going to pick it up this morning. That will clear my conscience when I don't let them take the twin bed I bought just before they moved in. I have access to a friend's queen bed from her guest bedroom. A&A can take it, or my king size. So I guess everyone will have beds when they move and my bedrooms will all be set up again. They currently have been using 2 of my beds & I had gotten rid of another one to make room for the kid's bunkbed.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Good morning everyone.
A cool 38 degrees here today. 68 for the high. North Texas is so much different than Central Texas.
Sounds like everyone is busy with chores, meetings and gardening.
I am still slowing unpacking and sorting. Most of Todd's stuff the boys are taking, lots of clothing items are going to be donated somewhere. My knick knacks will stay in storage till I can figure out where they will go. Can't believe how much stuff we accumulated in 24 years.
Pat, sorry to hear about Phil's brother passing. Sending our condolences and prayers.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Pat, you are so much more kinder than I, they would be sleeping on the floor. Is the closing. date still same, no setbacks? You sooo need this trip.isn’t it something like a 7 year wait if they cannot find one named in the will?

Lindakay, does the Amarillo weather more to your liking..if you move there permanently is the soil same or would you be able to have a garden?
Doesn’t take long to go from nothing to where to heck did this stuff come from.

I haven’t even taken a break or gone outside yet this morning, water is just running off my forehead. Doing a deep cleaning, hardly recognizing the rooms lol
I have to vacuum computer room and craft room then start washing all floors, upstairs and downstairs then I can sit and relax, figure once I take 1/2 hour to eat and if I don’t fall asleep or get lazy by 4 I should be done.

Hurrah for me, like everything in its place..only part that I don’t like is the containers of stained glass pieces..almost have to build on another room or get rid of it.

Been many a day since I put in a cleaning day like today..am semi enjoying it

We have had quite the day today. Walt is on Eliquis, a blood thinner, we got big cautions like shave with an electric shaver, Careful not to cut himself. Well....while getting up he bumped a big scab off his leg and the fun was on. Blood every where bed, carpet, hall and bathroom floors. Finally got it stopped and started cleaning up. All went fine until our bedroom carpet (only place we have carpet). I put peroxide on all the blood, then flooded with cold water. That was working well until I tried to get the water up. Managed to fall, hurt a few places and then the struggle to get myself up. Took a bit but I did it. Called our daughter and she came right away and took care of it. It's moments like this that make me realize we have no business trying to live on our own. We love this place but I can't stand being a burden to our kids. Just don't know what we can do. It all just seems so impossible now.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Betty - talk about a guilt trip, re: cards! Hope you didn't "buy into " it!!!

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Oh Karen, I am sorry to hear about the Eliquis AND YOUR fall!!! You know, we took care of our kids when they were young, now we need some help. I know it's not easy to accept the help but hang in there.

The platform bed was a frustrating pain in the rear. The gal did not give the right address. Of course NO ONE wants to give you a phone number & they rely on messenger. Messenger is fine unless you can't access it!!! I wasted more than an hour trying to find the place and then discovered she gave me the wrong address. I will try to go back AGAIN when she can be there. No good deed goes unpunished.

I told my SisIL I would plant her roses. She had knee surgery just a few months ago and was hospitalized with UTI last week. I did not want her out there shoveling. SOOooooo many rocks!!! That's done and I have 3 nice daisy clumps from her garden.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

As I suspected when I fell I broke my toe. I know nothing is done aside from taping it to the next on. Hard to walk and husrt like H**l.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Susan, if we ever meet don’t ask me to play cards lol

Karen my heart goes out to you both. Know all about the depending on others, we have always been the one to be there for everyone else, about time we learn we have to graciously accept help. We have government aides that come to seniors own homes to help them dress, give baths and do odd chores, provided by government..part time aides would help. Nothing worse than getting rid of blood.
How did you finally get Walt’s blood to stop oozing. Bet you were beside yourself by the time your daughter arrived. Hugs

Pat hope it wasn’t a long way for you to travel to not get the bed..it’s a shame that people are so Leary in giving out information, sad we can’t trust anyone anymore.
That was a good trade, daisy plants for planting roses. What time do you leave in athe morning.

I planted seeds for the daisies that have multitude of layers, none took
had many such plants but over the years I’ve lost the. i will pick up a couple when it’s time to plant.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Check in time is 4PM and Dana & Carrie have 6 hours to travel. It's 4 hours for me. If I leave before noon I will need to kill time somewhere. Heaven knows there are PLENTY of fabric stores in the those 200 + miles. I probably will shoot for leaving by 10 and expect to "waste" 2 hours somewhere.

There are chemical sticks for getting blood to stop. You might want to look into have some at the house. My Dad's skin was sooooo thin & easy to tear & bleed. There are lots of brands available. https://www.amazon.com/Bleedstop-Bleeding-Seconds-Emergency-Packets/dp/B07W99K21G/ref=asc_df_B07W99K21G/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=507467652717&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=1778462370826249781&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1027622&hvtargid=pla-1252001832189&psc=1

lol Betty, I sure Won't!!! I'm not one to guilt trip someone into something they really don't want to do.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Leaving this morning. I don't seem to be able to get on my phone into Dave's garden so I'll "talk" with you after I get back next Thursday.
