Sorry to hear about Steve’s mom, was she still living with Judy? She certainly has been coping with a lot..what Karen do you find the most encouraging, more energy, eating, etc?

Wouldn’t that be something Karen if the med would help Todd?

Expecting Giorgi in a few minutes, would so like to crawl in bed and have a nap.

Need a few taller weeds behind the bunny and will decrease size of the carrot fond of the project

I love that bunny project.
Yes, she was living with Steve and Judy.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Betty, feeling good and being stronger than I have in many years is a small miracle to me. I was so starting to panic with Walt's health problems, I was so afraid I wouldn't be able to care for him. Now I feel I can help him through what ever is to come. The Cardio did say that after he heals from his surgeries, he will be back to the best he can be.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Sorry to hear about Judy's mom-in-law. She certainly has had a lot of stress in her life, and now this.

Yes, it was nice of her to admit her error. This is what she's like though. She is just that kind of person that I appreciate. I was raised that way, too, and it's the way I raised my kids. Whether it "took" or not, I'm not entirely sure lol
S'funny - tonight I went to a Shrove Tuesday dinner, and met up with someone who has seen the 1st woman's quilting and talks about what a great quilter she is. I told her that she'd said I was a more accomplished quilter lol This 2nd woman hasn't seen what I can do lol The 1st one has, of course. I will say though, that the 1st woman has a great eye for colour.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Afternoon, sitting waiting for the storm that is suppose to start around 7..not only heavy amount of snow but freezing rain into tomorrow morning.

Susan, Giorgi came for class last night and said the had Shrove Tuesday in the gym yesterday and pancakes were like rocks, she said what happened to light and fluffy?
Nice to get a few kind words Re your ability, and for sure up when you hand quilt your treasure.

Karen, don’t you just want to shake your head that this doctor had the answer and the other didn’t even consider it a must.

Now for Todd to find such a “miracle”

Sharon is worried because her flight leaves early afternoon and she sure would want to miss that flight.

You can feel night time moving in, feel cold in here brrr

A lady called then dropped in with a lot of wool and knitting needles, also a small tote that had many goodies, dichroic diamonds, bow maker, stencil, glue gun and dpglue sticks…much of what I and the kids can use.

Been working on dissecting bunnies ..yuck
Got 12 done. Tomorrow is another day that likely i will sit quietly and do 12 more..once done I only have a few things to buy for the Easter workshop

Everyone must be extremely busy or I’ll, hugs and prayers if it’s the latter.

Betty, I'm just so relieved that we both now have Drs. that are recognizing our problems and getting us the treatment we need.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Betty, so the kids are ASSEMBLING the bunny centerpiece but not making the bunnies? They are adorable. Can you deconstruct some forsythia for the taller background material you need?

Susan, you sound good. I am glad that things are easing up a bit stress wise.

Karen, such a wonderful miracle. Yes, let's hope they find a good treatment for Linda's Todd as well.

I am supposed to drive to Sumner (near Seattle) and we got snow today!! and it's still snowing. I don't leave until Friday, but I am praying for good weather. The mountain pass can always be iffy.

Victoria Harbour, ON

The entire rabbit is rather skinny to have his butt sticking out of the container,I’ve been stuffing the pieces… this way the can make arrangement to their liking.

They would never be able to sew the bunny, decorate the face and decorate in 21/2 hrs. Forsythia is a grand idea if I can find plastic ones, mine won’t be out till May/June..does need something taller but supplies are so limited to buy here and if they do have what I need, expensive..only have so much $$ for supplies.

Yikes, ever since Rita and I did a pass driving in California/Nevada it was nighttime
Couldn’t drive more than a hundred or so feet we had to make the turns which were not easy so i dont envy you thinking of taking a pass in winter time..think you need a hot bath, nighty then hot chocolate and plan gor a different weekend.

Kare, there are no words, can hear excitement in your posts, i would be calling other doctor and letting him know of this medicine, if not you then maybe he can help someone else.
Was gabbing with Sharon, the airport a shuttle picks her up at noon, providing not all ice, her flight leaves at 3p.m.

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

We're getting freezing rain here. Started middle of the morning, continuing until sometime tomorrow. We missed the snow from this storm (maybe I shouldn't say that, yet). I think I'd rather have the snow than all this rain. All the tree branches are covered with a half inch or so of ice. Worry about power outages with conditions like this.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Praying for all of you in the psth.of that storm going through. My sister in Michigan said it's supposed to be wickedly cold.
Betty, praying her flight left with no delays.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

We had snow this morning. 70 mph winds at the airport last night which closed down the airport. Our high today is 45 which is really cold for us. I have been working on my front landscape for last three weeks. Cold weather moving in put a stop to that. Suppose to get rain off and on but I will believe that when I see it.

Karen, that is such wonderful news. Yes, we all pray maybe this medicine will help Todd.

Pat, my son, who lives is in Spokane told me how cold it has been. He and his spouse went to Mexico for a few days and he came back with a cold.

Susan, good job on getting your critic on your side.

Betty, your bunnies are adorable. The lady bringing supplies probably saw the article in the newspaper. How have you been feeling? I garden on my hands and knees and after about 4 days straight, I start getting minimum back aches from over working my back because I have been chasing tree roots and I pulling them which takes a lot of back strength. But I am also a maniac when it comes to gardening. I quit when I am done, not when I am tired. The tree roots are from the streetscape trees and go under the sidewalk and then move into the landscape using al of the water they find. I can usually find them when an area started having a problem. Fund this one when my brother and his wife stopped by to pick up a cutting of a hardy hibiscus. My garden helper was here and he was digging it up and he said something is wrong because he couldn't get the plant to budge and they are easy to dig. There was an Ash tree root entangled in with the hibiscus. Over 35' from the tree. Grrrrrrr.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Those tree roots are nasty.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

I heard that Mexico (from 2 friends that just came back from there) was unseasonably cold this year.
I woke up yesterday to a major dump of snow, all drifted in. Today we got more, but it's supposed to end & get milder again. Hope so. It's cold here now.
We need to get a new Casino date for our volunteers. Unfortunately it's a way for non-profits to make $$ to keep operating, and our Wellness society has been 5 years (instead of 3) since our last Casino. Apparently our Casino Advisor missed registering us. About $25,000 can be made by us volunteering at the Casino for Silver Willow and hope to make the same at Wellness Centres. It's usually 33 months between applying for a licence & us actually getting to volunteer at the Casino. Now, I don't play at the Casino and feel a little "funny" volunteering at one, but it's a good fundraiser. The licencing commission is going to see if they can rotate us in quicker than waiting. We'll only be able to operate for a few more months without this fundraiser.
When I contacted the commission, they said we are licenced for raffles, so the quilt I made will definitely be "raffle-able". I'm pleased to hear this. We can charge more for the tickets (not $2, but $5) and it will be more than "in-house". We can actually advertise it.

This message was edited Feb 22, 2023 8:41 PM

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Susan, good news on the possibility to get into the rotation sooner AND being able to raffle your quilt. 25K is a chunk of change!
Monday night we had winds clocked at 69 MPH. Our snow is gone for today, we'll see what tomorrow brings. My trip is postponed, more snow predicted for SEVERAL days in the mountain pass.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Pat - that's what we got at Silver Willow this year, for volunteering at the Casino. I hope we can get in early & make that kind of $$ for Wellness. We'll have to wait & see if we get an early rotation. Otherwise, it will be a a LOT of raffles. The Arena where we rent a room for $2,000 has said they wouldn't kick us out lol We're paid up for 2023, and will pay again next January, so we're good for now. I'll see if we can postpone our internet payments for now. It can be done for energy bills, let's see if our internet provider will do the same.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Linda, isn't your sister on the west side of the state? They are getting hit pretty hard. Not too bad here we did get some freezing rain and a sprinkling of snow but temp is 31* right now. It might get worse but we are OK. We are set for groceries, sons and grandsons keep a check on us. As long as we don't lose power we can manage. Even then we cook on gas so we could still do that. We have Lorelei here with us and she's very content to be with us. We made peanut butter cookies tonight and she asked could she fork the design because Debra never lets her. So of course she did.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Linda, our friends on here do not understand us desert gardeners chasing roots. Their soil is full of moisture and they have water below level tha the roots cn go to. Here in the SW the roots run into cliche and travel through the soil about 4 inches below and spread like fire to any type of water they can find. They even invade pots, raise sidewalks and the list goes on and on.

Good Morning Ladies....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, had a bit of snow and minimal is but it’s coming, let’s hope not until Sharon is off to the airport.

That must be a rare event Sharon to close down Las Vegas Airport…any damage to your gardens in those winds. i sometimes work hand and knees but not for long, pain too bad.but then I am not a fanatic with my gardens as you are..I’ve different rakes that normally does it and if by chance i can’t see a weed I let it grow so I can see them to be able to pull them out.p

Be back in a bit

Typing and virtually can’t keep eyes open

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Karen, my sister lives in Grand Rapids.
Sharon that's all we have here is caliche, clay soil. One of our neighbors a few years ago had a tree trunk grow around her main water pipe to the house, and eventually snapped it in two. It took her weeks to figure out the problem and get it fixed.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Yikes Linda, that would suck!

We are unseasonably cold... 19 degrees F, now.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

-18F / -28c here. It's COLD here. wind chill of -31F / -35c........... brrrrrrrrr

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Linda, I thought I remembered Grand Rapids. That's where you were visiting when we all met in Frankenmuth. My aunt lives there too in very nice senior apartments

Victoria Harbour, ON

Almost bedtime and I am just waking up, not sure why I am so very tired?

The storm quietened down at about same time as Sharon had to get to airport, when I finish this post i will go check the link she sent me to follow the plane, that should be interesting.

Yikes you are getting the cold weather, understand some states south are getting unusual heat..each year seems so different.

Karen, that was such a lovely trip to Frankenmuth..next time we won’t let an Ohio girl carry the wine lol

Karen how old must your aunt be, the trip was quite a few years ago.

Willow trees do mega damage here, they like travelling to water, lots of wells and septic tanks were damaged by them.

Does cliche have a bit of red in it, like red clay.

I posted the Easter project, don’t want to look at anymore posts on it, already 42 kids, unless I can find more bunnies, make a few more pompoms and a few more folding chairs I have to say “closed” i would say that only 1/2 of my regulars have registered as yet..guess I could look for someone to help me and add a 2nd class

Laying on couch, Ziggy thinks it’s a bunk bed, she is in the upper part of back of couch. Already ate and am now thinking of getting comfy in bed.

Weatherman says tomorrow is suppose to be sun/cloud, hope so as i need to be at
doctors for 10a.m.consultation for hernia, am hoping he says not big enough to operate on.

Keep yourselves warm and stay inside so no falls

Speaking of falls, Dianne did you see doctor, is there an update

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

No red clay ere. Just grey.
I really enjoyed that trip too.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

I found an armoire to buy Kevin & Gloria. I will add shelves & backing so they can turn it into a pantry/storage. That will really be a blessing as their kitchen has so little storage. Kevin already made the coat closet into a pantry and they hung a coat rack on the wall in the hallwamky.

I'd like to make a stand to straddle the small chest freezer and add cabinets above that. All that wasted wall space .... mounted directly to the wall would be better, just not sure how that would fly with the apartment manager. If they expect to be there another year or two longer, anything they can do to improve the apartment is money & time well spent.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Betty, cliche looks like cement. If you hit a shelf of it, you will need a jack hammer to break through it. In large subdivision built areas, they go in an dynamite and then start digging. In my area they used some of the large pieces to build fencing on berms holding back very high amounts of soil by the freeways.

HIGH WINDS DID NOT HURT MY PROPERTY BUT I PLANNED AHEAD AND PLACED SOME TREES THAT WERE IN POT ON THEIR SIDES SO THEY WOULD NOT FALL OVER. . Sorry for the caps.

We have no clay here, sandstone. The red rocks are sandstone, some granite, some ore but ore is usually black of deep blue.

We had snow again today but just flurries. Suppose to be rain tonight. My sister, who live in Ventura, close to Santa Barbara, is getting snow and big time rain. Cousins, in Oregon are getting snow and son in Spokane is getting snow.

My garden helper is not coming tomorrow because it will be cold and windy. I am going to try and do some pots in my garage.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Our ground is the same. Hard as concrete. When it rains, it softens the top 2 inches. If it rains hard, it will flood as it won't soak in.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Our ground was like that in TN, hard as cement, ole red clay. It would grow a nice crop of weeds though.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, -18, says sunny but doubtful.

Karen that is what I was thinking, red clay..most times it was in Nashville I saw it.

Has to be nasty Sharon for you to not be working in your gardens.

Lindakay, you are as bad as I, my water can’t drain because of frozen ground and yours because because of the caliche… guess you’ve never had flooding.

Here is me with a light sweater on, 2 people already asking if I am not freezing?? Should have a coat on, yep guess i should but can’t.

Stopped into $$ store and found 14 more rabbits, all the rabbits they had..that article did me no favours, I’ve been turning away youth for Easter workshop.

i did some organizing for the workshop this morning, was up at 6:00a.m. Sharon had sent me a message re having landed in Holland and waiting for next part of her journey, only part she wasn’t pleased with is the bush plane for I believe 4 hrs.

Now in Dr. sacks office Re hernia, my guess is she will tell me not big enough.

Nope, wrong, she says it will be in spring, watch it be March break and I’ve all these kids coming Orin late March when it’s garden time.

Next appointment is March 3rd with Heart Doctor.

Did groceries, was hungering for 2 things, a simple hotdog and chicken & sniffers, I will have both, one for lunch and the other for supper.

Was -18c this morning when I left, now -6, sun is strong..

Might have a nap, drats, can’t feel my fingers.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

We have had several floods here. If we get heavy fast rains, it floods the roads, yard's...
Back in 1998 we got more than a foot of rain overnight. The creeks and rivers flooded, killing about several people.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Any flooding then on inside Lindakay?

Pat, are you at Kevin’s, was the drive ok? You had best get that cabinet before it’s been bought..can mentally see the kind of cabinet you are talking about, am sure Kevin & Gloria would appreciate it. There is nothing like having kitchen space.

Was watching the Murdaugh trial when news came on saying California is preparing for winter storm..will have to message Liz and see if it’s in her region. Bet some kids there have never seen snow.

Starting to feel cold, temps are dropping.
I’ve supper ready, thinking I’ll eat then have a hot bath, plug in the electric blanket and get comfy for the night.

What are all of you doing??

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

We are all getting snow. More than this area has received in a long time. Major rain in California and roads in and out of California and Arizona closed due to bad weather. I tried gardening in the garage bu even with the door closed it was too cold. Emma and I went early for our walk and am now sitting in my bedroom in my over stuffed chair. I made myself a large pan of liver and onions for breakfast/lunch. For each their own.

Betty, if you take on any more students, you need a helper.

We have the same problem in Nevada that Linda has. It rains and the ground takes in the first little bit before it starts running.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

I went to Kevin & Gloria's last weekend, from Friday thru Sunday. I was going to go to Dana & Carrie this weekend but the weather nixed that.
Adam & Andrea are submitting a bid on a different house. They never heard back on the their 2nd offer on the house in Burbank.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

We had about 2 inches of water in. Our home when it flooded. Our home is made of concrete blocks, and the water seeped through them. They have since been sealed.
Pat, hoping they accept the offer.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Pat - praying that Adam & Andrea get the house.
yes, Betty - get a helper. I'm sure there are many who would help.

Wellness AGM today, so I have all the financials, and were lucky to get a Casino date so early (Dec 23 & 24) so we'll be viable again next Jan. I'm going to ask for donations, and can give out tax receipts. I also report on the Little Free Libraries, and the library room we have.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Very cool, Susan, they are lucky to have you at the head of their crew! Good news about the "early date". Would they consider calling you if somebody backs out and they need a replacement earlier??

Thanks for all the prayers and good thoughts. I keep telling myself, if this one is the RIGHT one, they will get it. If not, something better is in the works with God!

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Marie & I spent 5 hours going thru her closets today. Sorting out everything that was too big for her, I tried on what I liked, and we donated the rest. Now I need to sort out everything in MY closet that is too big & pass it on to someone so there is ROOM in my closet for my new smaller clothes. No way am I going to keep as much as I brought home.
I am more of a minimalist than Marie, she always has LOTS and LOTS of clothes. She loves to shop the thrift stores and find some great buys for clothes she looks great in. We can't always wear the same styles. I am broader shouldered and smaller busted, proportionately bigger in the hips and we can NEVER pass pants back & forth. I am about 3 inches longer in the legs although only about 1 inch taller overall.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Stanley helping. I thought I'd get a jump start before church today,

Thumbnail by psychw2
Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

yes. Pat, if they get an earlier date for us we'd hear about it.
I'm not "head of the crew" for Wellness. I'm the Treasurer.
I'm president of our Silver Willow Senior Citizen Society though. The AGM was for Wellness. It went very well. We made $145 for the quilt raffle, and $315 in donations, so now we have $460, paid our Bookkeeper, and have funds to pay our phone bill lol I'll email our internet provider to see if we can postpone our bill for them. We pay every 3 months. Things are looking up. I guess we should be pleased with ourselves that we made the $$ last 5 years instead of the usual 3 years.
