Diane, yes, it seems like the grieving process is bad enough but to have to deal with all the other stuff is so overwhelming. I could never get Ben to help me plan for his passing, he was in such denial. I did not have the password into some of his accounts and lots of other issues. Almost 3 years later and there are STILL things that come up!
I hope you get to feeling better soon. I understand you DO have an alternative heat source, right?
Best/Worse/What did I learn today? Come take a chair and chat with us…newcomers always welcome!
Grrrr something wrong here, wrote several posts and before i press send they disappear..
Betty, glad to hear your place is cleared out.
When are you going to Buffalo?
Dianne, sorry to hear you are sore today. Praying the pain starts to ease up soon.
Todd has good days and bad days. Today is a bad day. Doesn't feel like eating, all he does is sleep. I keep fresh fruit in the house for days like today.
The only thing that Marie can get Phil to consistency eat is a Ativa yogurt and a Premier Protein, 3 x a day. She tried to get him to eat more and is semi-successful. He is under 180 pounds and 6'3". Is there any protein Todd will eat??
Linda is there anything at all that might tempt Todd to eat even if just a little bit. I remember my mom only wanted tapioca pudding. Thank goodness we had a 24hour market as we never knew when she would run out. Some days she ate quite a bit and others just a bite or two.
If he only wants fruit can you maybe add cream or something to it to up the calories a bit?
I keep trying to show Walt how to access our bank and how I pay bills but he is so reluctant to learn it. I don't think he has written 3 checks in all our years together. I've given copies of our important paperwork to our one daughter who is uber organized. She knows where we keep the originals too.

Yes, I'll enjoy 1-1 quilting with one person. As to the one who wants it for free, I'm going to tell her that it would be best if she learns by herself. She's a really bossy person & she's already started to tell me things I'm lacking in. Good thing another quilter was there to tell her that NO we don't finish the seams underneath the top LMAO omg - can you imagine the time it would take to finsh each seam that gets finished by quilt stitching and isn't seen anyway?!?!
Yes Dianne - how deep was the water? So sorry that your knee is in such terrible shape. Rest, rest, rest!
Linda Kay - how well does he eat on a good day?
,Morning all,.. just like a kid I’m a cabby shop, can’t sleep, bet I’ve looked at weather in 5 towns along the way, where it was overcast now saying snow..have to think about going now. Big sigh
Betty, if you have doubts about going, it's best you stay home. You might be perfectly safe but there are so many idiots on the roads these days.
Betty, how disappointing, I know you were looking forward to it. My sweet Ben used to say to me "Watch out for the crazies". He figured I was a good driver, it was the others I needed to be concerned with. The first snow of the year, I swear, people needed to learn to drive all over again. I tried to stay home during those first few days while the learning curve seemed high.
Susan, sounded like you dodged a bullet! She would be no fun to teach!
Linda, I hope you are finding some things to enjoy & keep you busy during this time of stress.
Dianne, I hope you are starting to feel better, and your knee is starting to forgive you for the abuse it took.
He drinks the ensure protein drinks, but has to watch what he eats. With his pancreas going bad, his sugar has been through the roof. He hasn't been able to eat whole meal in a long time. His stomach gets full quickly.
YIKES! That is hard. Other than the obvious, no refined sugars, what else can you do to increase his calorie content and NOT make the pancreas flare up? does he tolerate fats?
Just got in, home safe and sound!
Will gab in the morning
No, he doesn't tolerate any fats or fried foods.
Oh Linda, all that is so hard for both of you to deal with. I think there is an Ensure type drink for diabetics.
Going to the egg factory tomorrow. AKA my granddaughters farm. She has chickens and ducks. Hubby loves the duck eggs. He misses us having ducks.
I have never had a duck egg. What are they like?? They must taste somewhat different if Walt prefers them.
Winter storm warning here from 9am this morning until 3am tomorrow. We've gotten maybe 2 inches of snow so far. They're predicting up to 6 inches.
Linda Kay - that leaves nothing to gain weight with, other than carbs. Fats & sugar are good for weight gain, just ask any woman LOL
yeah, dodged a bullet for sure.
Well, I "learned" something today, but I sure can't do it and won't again - Inset quilt pieces........ arrrrrrgh - my block looks SO wonky........ not good for anything, trust me. I had my edges all awful, and my points didn't poing. I trimmed it all around (way out & wonky) and added a border, but geeeeeeze I'm never going to do an inset block again! This was from a BOM & I got 2. Anyone want the 2nd one? Nope, never again lol
Not for sure what you mean by inset blocks? Never heard of that.
Me either.... take picture! I am dying of curiosity!!
Had NOTHING but trouble with the longarm today & gave up in frustration. The repairman cannot come until Tuesday.
Pat, Duck eggs are of course bigger and the flavor is richer. See below you just don't get eggs like this in the store. The one egg in the center is like what you normally buy. That carton wouldn't even close. The two at the very top and the three at the bottom are the duck eggs. She gets goose eggs also.

Inset pieces - See where those 2 orange/white & orange circles pieces meet? You sew those 2 together, then insert the pale fabric triangle where they meet. Not the best picture, but hope you can see what I mean. When you sew the 2 pieces together, you stop 1/4" before the end, so you have the 1/4" seam for the inset piece. It's finicky work, and I don't like it. I had to do it 12 times for one block

Morning all, won’t say “good morning as Marie was out t 4 knowing today was kids gnome workshop, i went out at 6 and she was shovelling her place, i got mine done and moved my car for easier access for my main drive, township plow came but big sigh not my driveway and if the kids do come I’ve 26 of them. I’m not happy, if many of these kids don’t come I’ll have all of these kits.
What did I did learn today?? I can’t do the run to Buffalo in one day, too much sitting and walking.
I haven’t tasted duck eggs either, interesting colour. My dad would boat to an island not far from him and pick seagull eggs, i wouldn’t eat those but likely he made me eggs and i didn’t know.
Sorry to hear about your block Susan, maybe take scrap fabric and try it again, know these block clubs provide learning pieces, makes you mad though.
I feel for you both, I’m sure Todd is really getting discouraged that he cannot gain weight seeing he can’t eat anything without getting sick. Prayers and hugs coming you way.
Deb, likely you, Debbie and I are getting same weather..do you have much shovelling to do?
Looking at the time, first batch of kids coMing at 8:30 so I need to go downstairs and greet them
Be back on my break between classes
Susan, it's also called a y seam. I don't like doing them either.
Betty, I can't believe you drove to Buffalo, then came back and had your kids classes. That trip alone would have worn me out.
Pat, sorry you are having long arm problems.
Working on saved energy Lindakay, I posted photo’ on my Facebook. Had an 8:30 am, 12:30 class and a 3:30 pm. i believe there was 26 kids total, 3 kids didn’t make it this morning do to weather. Didn’t even have a break.
Hot bath and now in bed, hoping the sandman comes!
I did enjoy the kids, vanessa, she is from my Monday sewing class was in a mood, some of the mothers who stayed tried to help but she was having none of that. I called her dad and home she went.
I saw the photos. Very pretty.
Good for you sending her home.
yes, Betty, you don't need a child to "pull an attitude" on you.
Linda Kay - I'd be tempted to cut a piece a little bigger & cut it in half to make the same look with an extra seam, but same material. It might even look seamless.
I am still working on trimming my ivy. If it wasn't my idea I would shoot the person who came up with it. I went inside a flower bed yesterday, you must understand some of my beds are 10' by 8', to rake around a rose tree to loosen the dirt so when I put down the rose food it will be easier to rake in. First swipe into the soil I run into a very large root. As I worked around the rose tree I ran into a total of 4 roots and they were from the ash tree in the street scape. That means the roots went under the sidewalk, under the front bed in front of this bed, under the very large boulders and then just took off. I was planning on being in this bed maybe 20 minutes and I was there 1 1/2 hours. Then I started trying to find where it had come under the sidewalk and could not find it by the time I had to quit and go to my granddaughter's 30th birthday dinner. Tomorrow we are going to be cold, low 40s and wind. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday I have appointments so will not be out in the landscape until Friday.
Betty, I cannot believe you made that trip in that short amount of time. Sounds like you had a nice group of children show up and you handled the child out of sorts perfectly. Both of my brothers live in he mountains in Nevada so they are both getting snow today.
Linda, my SIL has esophagus cancer and they are doing chemo and she keeps losing weight, even those they think the chemo and radiation will take care of it. They just inserted a feeding tube to help her maintain her weight.
Susan, you dodged that bullet. When I would get a Realtor that was a total pain to myself and my staff, and could never be made happy, I would just quote them higher points or interest rates to get rid of them.
Karen, like everyone else, I have never tasted a duck egg. I know they sell them here at Whole Foods and they are outrageous. Fresh chicken eggs are delicious also.
Miss Emma thinks it is time for her dinner and I must agree I am late. I should be in the house the majority of the day so I should be able to check in early.
couldn't believe it this morning. My water pipes froze again!! It took me a couple of hours & the day warming up for them to thaw. It only got to "feels like -30c". Last time it took the windchill to go to -45c before they froze.
It's supposed to get warmer (not much, but enough) starting tomorrow, so I hope there's no more freezing this winter. When the snow's gone, there's a fella I'm going to call to look at my heat tape & to put insulated skirting on my mobile home.
Insulated skirting and other "stop the freezing measures" sure sound like a good idea Susan!
Sharon, I like that "raise the points and interest" as a means of sending a trouble maker on their way. My Dad was a body & fender man, he repaired and painted cars. He had a client that was a pain and frequently wanted work done. Dad started quoting him higher prices BUT still got stuck with him! LOL
I am happy to hear that Vanessa's Dad came and got her. She needs to learn that when she is a pain, there are consequences. Maybe she will throw less attitude in the future, OR simply do not enroll her in the future class or ONLY with a warning in advance.
Snowing here this morning, warning in effect for our region, when i look at the radar it shows snow massage but storms to the north and south of us of us not affected, will see if that happens.
Went to town at 8:30 a.m., bought 3 pillows, had to cut both of mine for stuffing as I ran out. While there i picked up neocitron as my throat is sore, catch i
It before it turns nasty
Falling asleep, so nap to tmine
Susan, I hope you can get things properly insulated to prevent future frozen pipes.
Sharon, that is a lot of work. Even with a gardener, you still do so much.
Pat, any luck with the longarm?
Betty, what kind of goodies did you get in Buffalo?
We had rain the majority of the night and it rained through 1pm today. Henderson, NV is on the East side of Las Vegas and they had snow. Actually stuck to the ground. Emma and I went for a walk in the rain this morning. Light rain and I had just showered and washed my hair, so no harm.
Linda, I am a machine when it comes to gardening. Biggest help is when garden helper is here and cleans up behind me. Gardening is fun, cleaning up is hard work.
Betty, I saw your weather today and you high was -8. Now that is cold. The majority of my garden would die with those temperatures. I will not be back in the garden until Friday. appointments are getting in the way.
My great Granddaughter fell and hit her ear on a sharp edge of a coffee table while in California. This happened Wednesday night and they returned to Las Vegas Friday. They took her to the pediatrician today and they suggested a look by a plastic surgeon. Seven stitches in the upper er and 4 stitches in lower ear. Cut to the cartilage, that is the reason they want a plastic surgeon to take a look. Big party in St Louis at the medical daddy wet to and GD and GGD could not go. Really disappointed because at this party, that is when everyone learns where they do the final 5 years of their specialty. So daddy will be there all by himself.
Hugs to you all. Hope you had a great nap Betty.
yes Betty - rest is the best thing for you if you're catching something, or just plain have over-done it!
Further on my irritating potential quilt student. She emailed me to tell me that she won't be attending on Friday (Hurray, but I wasn't going to be there anyway - she hasn't spoken to me since Thurs). She told me that she didn't realize that this class was a way for me to earn $$ and if she'd realized that, she would have said "no" at the beginning. I replied that I didn't think it was a problem for her for me to make $15. She's going to learn online, she said, and (gasp) had to pay $60 for her batting & material. I replied that people pay $150 & up just for the material, classes in Alberta charge $65 & up for the class, you have to rent their sewing machnes, and you're encouraged to buy your material from their shop (at a 10% discount. Yeah, if you're on a budget, like I am too, you can use your fabric stash, and I encourage that. She sews her own clothing, so obviously has a fabric stash, I told her.
Anyway, that means for me only 1 class not 2, and that's on Saturday, not the Friday she wanted me to do. I'll do a one-on-one with Sheila & she's happy for me to teach her what I know (and pay the $40). When I'm paying $25 rent for the hall, I think that's reasonable.

$40 is a steal and you know it Susan. Acckkk! Some people! LOL
Betty, get some rest, Heal. Give your poor immune system a break!
Sharon, how disappointing for your family to miss the party. Sorry he had to go alone.
I gave Adam & Andrea a 30 day notice yesterday. Just more drama yesterday and I finally could not take it anymore. . I have done all I can that I thought was best for them without consideration for what is best for me. Time to end that.
Sunny but very cold here.
Pat good for you giving your son and DIL a 30 day notice. It seems to me you have been more than obliging with their rental dilemma. Sometimes you have to say enough is enough.
So Betty what did you get when you met up with Debbie ? That was a long time to spend in a car even if you were in tip top shape.
Well my knee is not doing a very good job of healing. The bruises on my shin and thigh are colourful. The knee itself is still very swollen and still hurts even when I am sitting still. The TH have adapted very well to not having long walks. They seem quite happy in their enclosure. It is almost like they know I am hurt.
Deb how are things weather wise for you ? Our plow guy is just smiling this winter. He is paid by the plow not the season.
Susan enjoy your time with the person you are teaching quilting to...... Bet you won't miss the aggravation from this person that you would be teaching.
Sharon I enjoy reading about your gardening.
Stay safe, warm/cold and well.
Afternoon all..
Sharon, sorry to hear about your little one hurting herself, really bad if she needs to see a plastic surgeon, lucky no hearing loss. I too enjoy you chatting about your gardens and the work you are doing in them.mist of rain i higher climate would be enjoyable.
Susan, unless you are a quilter don’t think people realize just how expensive things are. If you are teaching only 1 could you not teach at home with her until comes the time you need to quilt. I charge kids $20 for 2 hour class but I’ve been supplying everything, now they are onto bigger projects parents have to supply some of fabrics.
Pat, i believe you’ve done your best and more..time to get your home back. Are there accommodations your area for rent.. nothing here and if you find something normally between $1,500-$3k plus utilities.
Dianne could you get appointment to look to see if damage has been done? Wicked experience.sooo lucky to be alive.
As for Buffalo i didn’t buy very much, maybe a few yards of Valentine’s Day fabric..must have been me not liking anything because i wasn’t up to par
Again, can’t keep my eyes open so it’s nap time
Dianne, I agree with Betty. You need to have that knee looked at. Do you have an urgent care to go to?
Susan, some people aren't happy, no matter what.
Pat, I don't think I would have lasted as long as you did. Glad you are putting your foot down.
Yea Pat. They have taken advantage of you way to long and you have gone the extra mile giving up the majority of your home. Having someone living in your home is one thing but when you have to cordon yourself off in your home home is outrageous. Wanted to say that for a long time but none of my business. Hugs to you for lasting so long.
Diane, have you tried Espon salts. It should take down the swelling. I always have it around for gardening. Glad you like my gardening adventures.
Susan, the cost of quilting, the cost of gardening are similar. Especially if you are as crazy as myself. Dogged that pain in the butt. She does not deserve your talent.
Betty, I have the same problem when I am tired or down. Just a waste of time going shopping because nothing fits my fancy. When we were working in my front landscape last Saturday a neighbor stopped by and asked if we thought it might be spring. We were 55f degrees and I told him, in Canada, this would be spring.
Had my nails done today, went to nursery to get 20-0-0 fertilizer for streetscape grass. Was going to get another fertilizer but it had gone to $80 for 20 pounds, (up $30) so I called my garden helper and he thought he could get it cheaper. Stopped by While Foods and gone 10 more of those ham shanks. Make great gifts for $12 and I have used most of the one I had left. Made cabbage, potato soup with one yesterday and it is delicious.
Tomorrow I have the dermatologist.
Hugs.
Diane, perhaps it is time to at least call the MD. Doc might consider the possibility of a blood clot and rule that out with an ultrasound.
2 technicians came out to look at the longarm this morning. They really did not nail down what was causing the issue & then had to turn around and come BACK for another issue this afternoon!! They brought out a used control pad that they KNEW was working and swapped our's out. Our's the battery completely dead! I finally got a 45 x 60 kid's quilt done and we have zippers on several more ready to load.
Tomorrow I spend the early part of the day with my SIL Sharon. Not sure what she has planned for us to do. Last week I helped her with Sponge Bob pillow and "Patrick" (the starfish).
+.
Glad to hear your longarm is working again Pat.
I think just about any hobby is expensive, but if it makes up happy, go for it.
