Sew day today. Made 56 flying geese. Got them out of the way as I don't like making them. Rest of pattern is Half square triangles and squares so pretty simple from here on in.
Best/Worse/What did I learn today? Come take a chair and chat with us…newcomers always welcome!
Same weather here as well Dianne, hope it doesn’t amount to a lot snow.did you get to drive that new 4x4? How is the wood situation, using less than last? Hydro gone up beyond affordable big sigh.
Zeke and Piper must have tired each other out. Piper is a young pup i she not?
Liz is doing ok..the damage in California is experiencing hasn’t affected her region.
She say’s she likes her job, so much work because the sales bring in so many that it’s a disaster for restocking.
We eat much the same, I opted for 2 chocolate vanilla filled pudding, yummy but should have been eating the stew i made Friday.
Todd is spending a lot of time in bed. He is up for an hour or two, gets something to eat, then back to bed for another nap.
Hard on you, I’m sure you are feeling helpless Hugs
Betty - I used a can of icing, and a box cake mix. So, only the flowers were "fancy", made of fondant and very easy, because of the mold lol
Sorry to hear that you have to wait MORE, when it's already been 5 years!
I'm glad to have someone insist on me being her quilt instructor :) Right now I'm stitching together the 4th row of 5, for my own lap quilt. Next, I have some BOMs to do from 2009 lol I have 2 of every square, because I cousin didn't want to do them. I think she had me pick them up because she intended on me doing them anyway.
Linda Kay - sorry that Todd's meds aren't working yet. Did the Dr say how long it takes for them to "kick in"?
btw - I'm back to my normal happy self. I'll stand on my 2 little flat (not really flat lol) feet and face the world down, if I need to LMAO Seriously though, I own whatever I take onto myself, and I'd rather be myself & happy than anything else.
I'm strong, resilient, smart & resourceful, and that's the way it's goiing to be.
We have many levels and different people doing different jobs with the QOVs. I buy the fabric, decide on a pattern, cut and piece. Then I either take or mail it to one of our volunteer long arm quilters. It is then returned to me and I add the binding, wash, and get ready for presentation. Usually I present the quilts I make. Some will send them to our central leader and they will be sent on to others who need one to present to a veteran. Everything we do is on a voluntary basis. We pay our own expenses. The long armers buy the batting and then mail back to piecer. I always send the long armer enough to cover postage for return mail.
I know I won't be making many more quilts so I am donating my pretty big stash of fabric to a local QOV group. Hopefully they will be able to make lots of quilts with it. Maybe with the fabric available to use they can get more quilters involved. I am donating everything QOV I have. patterns, presentation bags, backings, folders for certificates, and the fabric. Walt built me a quilt display rack and I will be giving them that too. I won't be able to make quilts but I can enable others to make them. Since I joined in 2015, I have made and given almost 90 quilts. I know the fabric I'm donating will make at least that many more.
I know it's a lot of bragging but I am proud of myself.
You should be proud of yourself. Nothing better than giving to a good cause. Bless you for doing that.
That's a HUGE accomplishment Karen!!! I keep hoping Marie & I will get better at the longarm. We still struggle but we are getting better. We simply HAVE TO do it more consistently if we don't want to "relearn" every time! This last time was 3 MONTHS! We just got too busy with the holidays etc and being behind in the doll project.
Our JoAnn's is closing for several months. They lost their lease on the current building and the new location will not be ready for several months AFTER the forced move. I don't buy much there, I prefer the quilt shop quality fabric but I do occassionally buy fabric for the doll clothes. It was one of the few local resources for buttons & certain other products.
You should absolutely be proud of yourself, each I’ve seen are works of art....what a treasure these Veterans receive, I am sure they are overwhelmed and as they look at the quilt they can see stitches and time and love you’ve put into them.
Glad you are feeling better Susan, i had cake mix but only had chocolate fudge icing.
When i go to town I will look for those molds and buy white icing.
My electric steam mop went on the blink before Christmas..i spent the morning taking it apart incase maybe there was a kink in the spray tubbing, no not that so Canadian tire has one 1/2 price..$109.99 + tax..they say they have 5 in stock so maybe later I will take a run & pick one up.
Betty - You can buy fondant that's already coloured, in a box of red, green, blue & yellow. That's what I used for the flowers & leaves. For the actual icing, Betty, you can use whatever you want to cover the cake, then place the flowers & leaves on top of the icing.
I like chocolate lol
Praying Todd will respond to the new meds soon. It must be so difficult for you LK.
Such a wonderful accomplishment, Karen. Those quilts mean so much to the veterans, I'm sure.
I hope you get answers soon, Betty. This has all taken way too long.
The furry I posted about isn't one of mine, though, I did lose a boy I bred on Christmas morning. I'm not up to talking about him, I never wanted to place him, and I totally blame the owner for his death. The one I posted on was a show dog that escaped from a dog transporter, and was lost for several weeks in Wells, NV, off of I-80. After weeks of searching and few sightings, he was finally located. His hip was dislocated, and he was in bad shape from being out in the elements without food for so long. This past weekend, he died at the emergency vet hospital where he was being treated. Sharon may be familiar with the Bumble (that was his name) story. A lot of dog show people were following it.
Thank you Deb.
Sorry to hear that about Bumble.
Deb, how absolutely tragic. I will have to ask Sharon if she recognizes the name Bumble. I cannot imagine a show dog trying to survive in the wilderness.
Not the kind of news you want to hear at Christmas… can understand your not wanting to talk about it, i don’t mention Inuk to Sharon NOT that I don’t care but into the crying she goes, understandable.
Susan, looks so yummy that iknowif i make one when no company is coming I will eat it all on my own.should make cupcakes for all those little ones coming Sunday for the gnome class.
Was going to go to town tonight but changed my mind, maybe tomorrow afternoon.
Don’t know if i mentioned but yesterday I got call for ultra sound February 8th at10:00, quick, don’t know how long the other appointments will take.
Girls are suppose to come tomorrow weather permitting, am thinking i best be up by six to clean the craft room up before they get here.
Been a good days, was up off the couch for most of it.
Glad to hear you had a good day Betty. Take it easy and pace yourself.
Morning, 32°F, with winter advisory on. Pat and June will not come todays as the worse of storm is on its way, have Giorgio who comes at 4 after school, i so enjoy her.
Guess I will make a list of what should be in the gnome kits to make sure I’ve all I need, these tasks are all sitting on couch so i guess one could say I’m resting.
That is my day
What is up with you guys?
Something has changed on this site. I haven't made any changes to my computer but this site is running fast and for the longest time it has been slow as molasses. Welcome the change.
Off for infusion this afternoon. They don't help me at all so I don't know why they are still pumping in the iron. Tomorrow is EGD. Hoping to find out how bad bleeding is and why it's lasting so long this time. I do know last time Gastro up north was very aggressive in treating it. I suppose that is what made the difference. He was doing EGD every couple weeks and cauterizing the bleeds. He would then do EGD to see if he missed any. Took 7 months to clear it up and it didn't come back for 6 years. I've been two years with it this time around.
No wonder your iron is so low Karen!!! The continuous bleeding will sure do it.
Betty, I am glad to hear your testing is soon.
Linda, you & Todd continue to be in my prayers.
Deb, I am so sorry. I could NEVER be a breeder of any kind of animal. I become way too attached. I guess it's a blessing I don't get to see these puppies much and I have not held any of them.
Sharon & I switched our week around. I will spend most of today at her house today. I am bringing several of the dolls with me to try and comb out their hair & style it. If I can't, I give up on them & offer them up for free & get them gone.
I hope to get over the outlet today to scope out whether it is worth going tomorrow when the prices are $2. Today is $4 and I doubt I will EVER try going again when it's $1 LOL.
I've been cutting up jeans for jean quilts. Stanley has been "helping".
Mass shooting in Wa, sure hope nobody you know Pat
Sun is shining so will take a quick run to Canadian tire
Thank. You Pat. Stanley is an awesome helper.
I haven't heard of the shooting in Washington. There was anniversary one in California this morning. Killed 7. Another Asian man went on a rampage. So sad.
State of Washington I believe
Saw tornado warnings as well.

Monday was cold and windy and miserable. Peanut my kitty, would not even go outside. She very seldom uses the litter box and uses the landscape area but yesterday she used the litter box. Today was 55, no clouds or wind and was beautiful. I worked on the ivy reduction for over 3 hours and did an area about 4' by 20 '. But this was a difficult area because it was right next to the pony wall separating my property from the neighbors property. .The ivy had grown on the wall and the mow and blow guys had blown leaves and soil behind the ivy on the wall for years. Found a wonderful supply of compost while I was cutting back the ivy. Also fixed irrigation in the area as I moved through it. The area was at least 3/4 of a foot high with blown in soil and composted leaves. It is now level with the sidewalk and the ivy is cut back to the soil level, irrigation fixed and flood lights placed into the right areas.
My garden helper was here for few day because he just likes to garden with me because he says he learns so much. Those are great days because he helps clean up as I cut and toss on the driveway. I spread some cottonseed meal and then covered it with the new found compost. Tomorrow going to do the area on the other side of the driveway. Should be easier.
Betty, moving at that age is unbelievable. Especially that quick. Well if you cannot use what you picked up, you can re-home it or have another class on making something else out of all the treasures. I am so pleased your appointments are scheduled and coming up.
Pat, my Peanut is always helping me when I am trying to read. If it is paper, she will sit in the middle to stop my reading. Magazine or newspaper.
Karen, I am with you. A few weeks ago I had a terrible time getting on and now no problems opening.
Karen good luck on your infusion. Hopes it makes you feel better.
Hugs to you all.
Why is she moving Betty. Sounds so drastic with her leaving so much behind.
Glad to hear your tests are coming up soon.
Sharon, don't know how you do so much. Always our busy in your garden.
Wow Betty, I take it this was sudden decision by your mother? I hope that move provides some relief for you & your sister! I am glad you got your tests scheduled so quickly.
Sharon, you are so ambitious! Your landscaping will be so beautiful, I have always loved the pictures you have shared. SOOOO different than anything from around here.
Off to my sister's for the day. We will get her quilt off the longarm today and make a run into StVdP's to donate the clothes she bought at the Goodwill outlet.
I found adult coloring books at the $1 store and bought 22 of them in preparation for next Christmas. A few months back everything went from $1 to $1.25. I have not found what product I want to buy to include with the books, crayons, colored pencils or markers. Markers will bleed thru, the pencil sets are either too expensive or not enough variety. I will keep looking.
The snow has started already. We are in for a doozy of a time if the Weather Liars are right. I have nowhere that I have to be so the TH and I will hunker down.
I am exhausted and in mega pain but thankful I was able to get all 3 of us out of the swamp after going through the ice. Zeke went in first and couldn't get himself out. I crawled over to him and hauled him out by this collar. While I was doing that I heard a splash and Chaos had gone through in a different spot. I crawled over to him and hauled him out. Stood up and walked a few steps then bang I went through. It took quite a bit of an effort to get me out. I lost 1 of my boots at 1 point and had to crawl backwards to get it. Fought with prickly Ash - that $*& plant never dies. I have really done a number on my knee that I had replaced - it is the size of a melon and talking to me. It was a chilly walk home. Now we've warmed up I think we will have a nap. The TH are sound asleep. Luckily I had brought in enough wood for a couple of days before we went for our adventure.
So that was my morning. I hope you all had a better one than I did.
Oh no!. Glad you are safely back home.
Please be careful.
Big snowy day here. Schools are closing early, some were closed period. about 4-5 inches so far and still coming down heavy.
Had my EGD this morning. Went well except for the part where it took 5 stabs to get a line in. Met the Dr. for 1st time. Seems nice enough. We will see how it goes from here. He said he cauterized all bleeding areas.
Glad to hear it went well.
oh Dianne - that wasn't an adventure, it was a potential disaster! SO glad you three got out, but that talking knee.......... what is your response, other than rest? Taking meds, I'm sure. Good thing you have a stock of wood and don't need to go out for anything! Foolish dogs, and they put you in danger - yikes!
Evening all
Blizzard here, Sharon and I wanted to go to Buffalo Friday before Debbie has her operation.
What a tragic ending that could have been Dianne for all 3 of you..can picture you trying to get out and breaking ice as you are fighting for your lif life, imagine you kept a clear head.. just trembling thinking of you going through that..Angels were looking after you Dianne, God bless them! The time many years ago when I got caught on a lone concession and couldn’t get out, lost a boot, when i finally was able to I ended up with a bad cold.,here is hoping you have fixings for a hot toddy, warm fire will also help..just shaking my head, no more walking near the water for you 3..cover up and rest.
Karen that is good news, when do you go back to see if it works. Great you like the doctor..I’ll ask like Debbie would “i she eye candy” all kidding aside it’s the star of good news. Did they finally get your medical history?
Pat it was Aunt Muriel who is moving, flight is 5am tomorrow morn8mg..of course mom is sad, both her brother and sister will now live in Vancouver.
I’d include coloured pencils, last longer. Our $$ store here is now $1.50
Pat had bought me a bulb, now in bloom, so pretty.
Right now I'm steaming mad
Because 2 of the ladies interested in learning how to quilt have opposite days available, I'm going to teach them one-on-one, on Feb 3rd & 4th.
Just heard from the one in the Wellness group, asking why we couldn't do it in the Library What a mess of thread, and it's tight quarters) and why have to pay for the class when they're supplying everything (material & sewing machine & Olfa cutter). I told her, rent for Silver Willow ($25) and $15 for me, for a 7 hour class. I told her that I'm feeling disrespected that she wants the class for free because we're friends. Told her she can join her 10" squares if she can do it seamlessly, and use them to create the 14 1/2" long pieces to save $$, but not to expect a free class. I told her that she could always learn the way I did, with magazines & videos since I was in my 20's. Up to her. Oh, and the Library has lots of books on quilting if she doesn't want to do a class.
Yes, I'm steaming.
I go back next Monday. they will do a draw and see how my numbers are. When I had this the first time around, Gastro Dr. was doing 3-4 of these a month. He would do a second check to see if there were still any bleeders and cauterize them. It took 7 months but finally they didn't come back. I was good for 6 years and then it reoccured. There is no pain connected with all this. We stopped on the way home and ate, no restrictions. The usual after anesthetic...don't drive or make any critical decisions. I feel fine right away...a bit gassy because they do puff you up.
This is how it looks in there before and after. If squeemish, don't click on them.
Sorry to hear Susan, disappointing. Sometimes it’s just not worth it..better to participate.
Karen, had you said which is the before I’d have said on the left. Will you hurt tomorrow? Let’s hope it won’t take many procedures ..where you have to go is it far?
Mike, my brother and his wife are on vacation, forgot which but they are flying home, airports are closed due to blizzard so not sure what they are doing then Laurie and aunt Muriel were to leave at 5am, not sure that will happen.
Joe had messaged me that he would do behind my decks to downstairs entrance, sure hope he does. Imagine Jules will come do my main drive during night.. wish they would wait til municipal plow goes by.
Doesn’t look promising for Buffalo Friday
Looking forward to Saturday's quilt get-together.
Trying to figure out what I'll take, I have so many projects on the go lol
You sound like you have a lot of snow, Betty - hope it's not the slippery type, and that you're staying in nice & safe & warm!
Diane, I am so pleased you were able to tell us the story on your adventure instead of a report in the local paper. That had to be so frightening.
Betty, my weather report on your area on my i phone shows you will not get snow until Friday. And then only get snow from 7am to 1pm. Hope it is right so you plans can still go forth to Debbie and your Aunt Muriel can get on the plane and get to Vancouver.
Susan, people are just rude. It takes you years to prefect your skill and then they want it for free. I have had neighbors ask me to show them how to garden and I always do it for free. I am in the middle of teaching them and look around and they have gone into the house and I am working in their garden. I do none of that now. The most important item for success in your garden is healthy soil. And that takes a few years to accomplish, and you cannot rush it. Today's population wants instant gratification.
Pat, I have many coloring books and pencils. I color some times but it makes me nervous. Why, because I am not very good and my personality does not do well with that. lol....
I garden because I have nothing else to do. I am unable to just sit around and read a book or watch TV. Just cannot do it. My house stays clean and I also have a housekeeper. My oldest granddaughter is having a baby boy in July and maybe I can spend some time helping her with the new baby. I am teaching her how to garden in the desert.
I did another section of trimming back the ivy today. It got cold because the wind picked up so I only got about 2.5 hours in. The landscapers reduced the ivy with a hedger two weeks ago and that was a really big help. Now I am just fine tuning it. Once you have ivy, you will always have ivy. Today I found a treasure trove of compost under one section. Leaves had worked their way under the ivy and turned into beautiful black soil. I put it in a large pile and tomorrow I will spread some cottonseed meal and then put the compost over the cottonseed meal.
Stay well all of you. Betty so looking forward to you finding a good doctor.
Hugs.
Dianne, you scared me to death with your tale of going thru the ice!!! How deep is the water there??
Sharon, I have had people ask me to design their garden space "just like your's but without all the maintenace time needed!" Ya, right! LOL I CAN sit and read all day.
Karen, I hope this procedure will give you relief and improvement immediately!
We got Marie's twin size quilt off the longarm today but agree that we need to give ourselves a refresher course on the computerized edge to edge. We are both going to load up a whole cloth panel (MAYBE add a border) and do a practice quilt to donate to Linus project. We want to develop some confidence and consistency.
Susan, I used to have people hit me up for mending. My cure for that was to tell them I would MEND while they spent their time CLEANING at my house, otherwise I would not have time for their mending!!!
Forgot to say Susan Happy Robby Burns Day.. know you dressed early this morning in all your Scottish attire,
Your phone isn’t wrong Sharon, we’ve had quite a storm and is ongoing.. it’s the ind of snow that if wing comes out you can’t see. You can only get to be an artist if you practice, fun thing to sit outdoors .
Offf sweet baby girls coming, how many great grandchildren is that ? Your granddaughter will appreciate taking in your valuable experience & knowledge.
Does your landscaper helper do other gardens in the your area? What knowledge he is getting, he should be paying you. Strangest thing Sharon, around my pond the ivy is growing at such a pace, green under snow and yet u cannot grow it in the house, of course i do nothing to it outside.
Falling asleep so off into lalaland
Betty, there is no pain involved. The procedure only take 10-15 minutes. Only after effect is I'm a bit gassy as they do blow up the area. We stopped for lunch on the way home and had pizza for dinner.
Procedure was early enough that there was not much snow yet. We got about 6 inches here total.
With all the snow and storming so many of you are getting, I should be grateful for dense fog instead! I just need to watch the temperature because it has dipped low enough to cause freezing fog on the road. In a few days we are expedted to get single digit weather. We don't get a lot of that in this area.
Morning, sunshine city after quite a downfall..i got up at 7am and my drive was done, back and steps done and the back as well as clear cleaned off so betweenJoe,Marie and Jules I was well taken care of.
Karen,I’m glad it’s not sore, do you feel peppier today?
Dianne, is today a good day for you? Bet if not a cold you are sore..home no damage done to where you were operated on.
My chore for today was clean dining room cabinet, you know that one spot when you can’t find a place for it, there it goes in that cabinet, clean kitty tray, washed dog water/food container that you fill and last about 2-3 weeks, after my coffee break I’ll clean the mirror and that project is fini..
This after noon I’ll clean off coffee table where I’ve been hand sewing arms for the gnomes and making pom poms,
Making a list should we still be going to Buffalo, so looking forward to visiting with Debbie atCracker Barrel.for breakfast.
Lindakay, how is Todd?
It's still snowing. Our plow guy was just here and told me he'll be back either later tonight or early tomorrow. Someone on the lane called him as they got stuck in the middle of the lane and couldn't get unstuck.
Typical of me I hurt more today than yesterday. That always happens to me so I was prepared to stay inside today. Thank goodness I have the TH's enclosure so they can get out and play. My knee is huge with the swelling and is hot to the touch. I let the fire die out as I just can't keep dragging myself to the woodstove. I won't be able to drive tomorrow but a friend will take me to Sydenham tomorrow to get the TH's supplies.
Gee Betty maybe your mom will want to move to BC. I hope you don't bare the brunt of her missing Aunt Muriel.
I am really sad. My Rotti friend in Texas who died suddenly did not have any plans in place for his 4 Rottis. Nor did he have his finances in order. His wife is beyond pi**ed off to the extreme. I would have taken 2 of them as I know how much effort he had put in training them. People were stepping up and offering to take them. I have my dogs in my will so I know they will be well taken care of.
Susan I bet you will enjoy quilting 1 on 1.
Betty did you get all this snow ? There was even thunder last night. That's when you know you know you are in for a huge dump of snow.
LK how are you and Todd doing today ?
Give Debbie a hug from me if you do go to the US Betty.
Sharon have so much knowledge and experience with gardening to pass on to others.
Stay safe and warm/cool everyone.
