Yikes, that would have put me in a spin had I not been prepared for his visit..
As for cleaning I’m a bit of a fanatic, I’m sure if I ever left for town and bed not made I’d have to return home lol
Everyone is different, different personalities and housekeeping habits
Not sure I told you this but I was tired of looking haggard so made a promise that when I have my bath in the morning I’d roll may hair in those curlers that you just roll, no picks to keep them rolled, anyway the are so light you don’t even know you have them in, got to do something when you can’t go to hairdresser, anyway when Greg and Mel dropped in for a few minutes they called out as I was downstairs, while we were talking greg looked at Mel and started to laugh, asked me what planet I was going to? I had forgotten to take curlers out, he said wasn’t curlers something antique, didnt think they used them anymore..brat
Best/Worse/What did I learn today? Snowing &Blowing..fireplace on, come sit a spell!
Karen, praying for you and hubby to get well quickly. So pleased you have someone to look after you.
Betty, I use those curlers every day. Mine are pink. I have very fine hair. When I curl my hair, it has to be in for at least 2 hours or it goes flat within minutes. I walk my dogs with the rollers in my hair. My neighbors are used to it and think nothing of it. I do not leave the neighborhood but I do leave my house or garden in the landscape with rollers in my hair. My neighbors probably believe I am an eccentric old lady. I can truly say, I do not care, and they are probably right.
Betty, I do hope your body starting being nice to you. Your family photos are precious. What is that beautiful bun that is in font of your chocolate pie.
Check the weather tomorrow and see how Las Vegas is doing.
Karen, I hope you are feeling better and that medication will make things more bearable.
Bishop just wanted to know if I was interested in working with the teen girls in the church. I said yes. Because the church services were online, I just cleaned during any of the musical numbers. I got the place presentable before he got here.
I didn't get much sewn today. Yesterday was super productive so it's all good. .
Not for sure what's going on.
Hardly any of my posts are going through.
Trying again.
This is a test
We got it this time Linda K!!
Hope Karen and her hubby had a good nights sleep and feeling a tad better..Lordy how long does the actual gpfeeling like hell last when one has Covid? Prayers being said for you both..
Sharon it was a couple of scones Greg & Mel dropped off..just made another turkey and fixing plate for lunch, not likely I’ll have to cook this week, doesn’t matter what I cook nothing tastes good...at this rate I’m thrilled I have patio doors in back bedroom so I can get out... 32f here today, can’t seem to warm up, have thermometer saying it 75f but sure doesn’t feel like it..best I mark a thermometer on my buy list, see how accurate the thermostat is,
Got your post Lindakay.. thought of you this morning, found some black/pink flannel and made hearts this morning and put them on my favourite most comedy nighty, could part with it so thought if the hearts covered a few holes (😂) I might get to wear it..I dress everyday and do my hair, it was sad the way I was letting myself go, straight hair, living in nighty..anyway on a lazy day it will me my go to comfy nighty which I’m sure you send me in a pj swap years ago.
Comfy on couch but think I should go downstairs and finish the Valentine’s Day throw, could always do more knitt8ng..
We had rain, snow and hail. Currently slow drizzle and suppose to snow this evening.
I have walked the dogs twice, both cats have stayed inside. My GS Corbin, who is the oldest boy came over and visited me for over 2 hours. He is heading back to college on Thursday.
My 90 year old cousin called me back an we chatted for over 20 minutes. She sounds so young on the phone. Both my brothers texted me today and they are getting snow also. Big day in Nevada since we have not had any moisture in a long time.
I am going to do some on-line shopping. Both dogs are sound asleep behind me on my over stuffed chair.
Betty how are you feeling? I just put my garbage out and had to empty one small garbage can into the larger container and I had to remove about half of it's contents before i could lift the smaller one to dump into the larger one. And of course, not all of it went into the larger container and now I have a mess on the garage floor but I just felt I could clean that up tomorrow.
Pat, how old are the young ladies you are going to teach. Pretty cleaver way to get the house cleaned and attend church at the same time.
Everyone around my neighborhood that has got COVID has had a mild case. Let's all pray that is what Karen and her husband have. My son said the only bad part of their experience was a terrible headache.
Hugs to you all. Your turkey sounds really good Betty. I made myself tomato soup from crushed tomatoes, beef bone broth and seasonings and it was good and without all the crap you get in canned soup.
I had homemade soup yesterday. HOMEMADE is better!!
Tonight I cooked up hamburger patties with an onion & a whole pint of sliced fresh mushrooms, fresh cooked seasoned rice. Those hamburger patties were taking up WAY TOO MUCH room in the freezer, time to get them used up! Even tried a new recipe Toffee cookie bars. Maybe they will be better tomorrow... warm they were nothing to write home about.
The girls are between 12 and 18. I do not know which half I will be working with the younger or older of the 12 to 18.
I FINALLY got my medical insurance straightened out. Now to get the bill for 5 months premiums, OUCH! I could not risk being hit with a pre-existing clause.
Spent most of today sewing doll clothes. Didn't get much done today. Spent WAY TOO MUCH time on ONE project. Very cute but not worth the time!!! Marie & my goal is to make up the kits well in advance this year and we have a HUGE head start. We had a lot of clothes left over from last year as we did not shop for dolls most of the year. I am going to focus on making the clothes and let Marie focus on buying the dolls. She loves the shopping and is GOOD at it. She can scope out a doll in a huge pile of toys...
Morning,, just out recycle to roadside, 26f brrr falling to 16f
Ziggy followed me to roadside, usually he will stay out for a bit but I think he beat me to the door.
Starting my day with prayers for Karen and her family?
Sharon, did you get your snow??.must have been grandma day,Corbin visited with you and Noah dropped in at 5 and left after 7pm..sure warms the heart..am sure your cousin enjoyed catching up, so do you multi task, while gabbing you are doing something outside In garden? Lol. Perhaps it’s too cold today to have done so..
Pat, you never tire of doing the doll clothes..amazing
Looks as though we are all in soup mode, must be cooler weather
Thanks for asking Sharon, something is wrong, just can’t put my hand on it...not really hungry, everything taste the same.tired, much time in washroom, bottom is really burning, looked up what I can do for that, most same light cover of Vaseline, will try that this morning, maybe baby Powder?
Have a call in for doctor’s home visit...nit sure when I will be slated in but it’s time for needles in my shoulders.
Pat, I listen to Dr. radio when I’m in the car, people are always asking about premium costs, I cannot even imagine being able to afford those premiums..when I think I just go to a doctor, a specialist, hospital and regardless what it is it’s free, no worries and seniors do not pay for meds, perhaps a few..I pay for my sleeping pills, 26.00 a month but I could go to different type that is covered..I am just sooo thankful that when you are ill there is no need to worry how it will impact you financially..
Bath time, have a great day
Betty when I have a burning bottom, I find that A & D ointment helps sooth. I keep it handy as it's a frequent problem for me.
I feel a bit better today, still pretty weak. A regular walk to the bathroom is Ok but when I added in a bowl of water for Ducky, I got shaky. I've heard from so many that the recovery is long and slow. Hubby seems to have gone backwards a bit so I'm letting him rest undisturbed. I can ask one of the kids if I need something.
Not sure what A&D ointment is, I’ll check online to see what it is and next time I go to town I will go to pharmacy and get the likes..when kids were babes I think I used Penitent cream ?
Well nice and easy for both of you, so glad there is someone else with you that can help when needed..likely one step forward and two back..let’s pray no permanent damage and by spring you will be out gardening.
Bad storm heading our way, 2 girls killed In Toronto , 1 ejected that is critical and one in fair condition. When I spoke to Sharon this morning I told her she best cancel her vets appointment 8n Caledonia, almost 2 hr drive for her,she said she would be ok, didn’t look bad when she checked weather station, crazy, she got 1/2 hr from her destination and turned around, she kept calling me saying white outs, I kept say turn around she headed home..I just asked why to hell would you go when it’s calling for major storm, she checked her weather, dah, you check all areas enroute..she is home safe.
Just came up to make another turkey dinner left..turkey left over after my meal will be frozen along with turnip..might just put ham bone on for simmering, you have all made me hungry for homemade soup.
Might knit for a bit, finished top for throw, might see if I’m up to add batting and backing so I can work on it in the morning...maybe even bring my washable pen upstairs and mark how I want to quilt it..might do nothing lol
Oh.... ham bone.... split soup!!! OK, now I have to add THAT to the grocery list!! LOL
Karen, glad to hear you are experiencing some improvement, even if it's small.
I have only ever been in white out conditions twice, once as a child with my Dad driving. We were in the mountains and we were the lead car. I remember Mom telling Dad she thought they needed to "move a little left". When I looked back, I could see the head lights of each of the cars also moving left, following our lead.
Doll clothes are small projects and I can be as silly or outlandish, totally glamourous if the mood strikes. It's affordable and creative. Unlike sewing for real children, no doll ever complained it wasn't the color they wanted, itched, or refused to try on something because they were "busy" doing something! When my kids were young, I used to sew children's clothing. I sewed for my nieces, neighbors etc. besides my own sons and some of my favorite projects were costumes.
I think I will be training my cat to use the toilet. I had a cat years ago that I was successful with, and the perk of no cat litter on the floor makes it highly desirable!!! It's not changing the litter box, it's the cat litter that goes EVERYWHERE from their little feet that drives me crazy!! I even have one of those special mats that are supposed to help pull it from their feet. With the 3rd bathroom, that will give me a bathroom that REMAINS open so it will be available.
Pat, great reason for doing kids clothing..lol
I was in the mountains once in a blizzard, rather than regular route decided to see Finger Lakes on way to Florida, storm came upon us..I remember thinking we would die, fall off mountain side, there was a place we stopped for gas, attendant said we were at the utmost peak, all downhill from there, 3-4 hrs later we were on flat ground..hubby said it was the last time he would ever change route for my sightseeing..only other time was when Rita and I left Las Vegas to go visit Liz in San Francisco, in a pass, during wildfires, Rita would yell stay right, then stay left, barely wide enough for 2 bars in some places..
Never heard of training cat to use washroom..Ziggy likes to lay in tub especially after my bath..licks her paws
Betty, A & D Ointment is basically for baby butts. It's a better consistancy than most, not as sticky, more a gel.
Looked online and will check pharmacy, hot tub waiting for me, it helps a tad..so many bins under washroom zinc, will look and see what I can find
Consistency wise, it more like vasoline than Zinc compounds . ANYTHING that creates a barrier will bring some relief. There is a line from a chili cook off joke that says " I need to wipe my a$$ with a snow cone."
(I have read this many times and still can't read it out loud because I can't control my laughter, it's right up there with the Tazer or the squirrel stories. I know, I'm twisted. Pat)

Too funny Pat, I’m not fond of anything spicy so they would not have conned me into being a judge.. mine problems are all those trips into washroom, big sigh
Did look for penetant cream, no go but did find a lot of ointments besides those prescribed by doctor
Came to bed around 4:30, so far to help with pain
Rubbed hip, knees and ankle/feet with ointment
Took Tylenol 3
Got 2 big pillows and set them on top of each other so blankets aren’t putting pressure from ankle down
Pain so bad got up and put cbd oil on them
Took 2 drops cbd under tongue
Got heating pad and placed over my ankles/feet
Still not working, waiting for 8 and will take another tylenol 3 and sleeping pill
Mega storm out there, maybe it’s the weather playing havoc with my body
Not looking forward to shovelling tomorrow and no, no kids around to do it.

Betty - do you not have T4's, rather than T3's? I know I was able to get T4s prescribed to me when I had such pain from my knee replacements. I don't take them anymore, because my need for really strong Tylenol isn't a long term thing, but when I had major pain it was the only thing that would kill the pain. Mind you, it made me sleepy all day & so I chose not to drive but they worked. Please don't wait until the pain's really bad before you take it. Takes longer to activate if you wait. You won't need to take as many in the day, if you take them properly.
It's been a relatively quiet week. Next week I'm only working Mon & Tues (instead of Mon, Wed, Thurs) because my boss' (Bernice) birthday is on Wed, and her boyfriend is coming to see her, so she's going to give me 3 day's pay for 2 days work, and adjusting my schedule. It means I'll have a 5 day weekend hahaha
It's dreadfully cold right now - a 5 day'ish cold snap that a lot of people are not happy about.
Karen, so thankful you are feeling a little better. Best news of the day. Praying your husband gets better soon.
Betty, you sounds like you were the third judge. Been there, done that and what you are going though is not pleasant.
I have never been in a white out. I have not lived too many places that have snow. I've been in Las Vegas since 1960. Does not sound like fun.
Pat, you sound like you have fun making the doll clothes. That is the way I am about my flower beds.
We did get out snow. Maybe 2.5 inches. We are close to the mountains so we got more than the rest of Las Vegas. My home town got over a foot and the mountains were counting in feet, not inches.
I walked the dogs this morning with the snow still on the ground. They found it interesting and strange. The two cats went outside and immediately turned around and came back into the house. We had our normal two walks and during the first walk we had lots of little children playing with my dogs and the snow and making a big snowman. The second walk we were all by ourselves.
I added some meat balls to my tomato soup. I purchased the meat balls at Trader Jo's and they were terrible. I guess if you can cook, you shouldn't buy things like that. But the soup was good and I made some croutons and added some cheese on top of the soup and it was satisfying. Tomorrow I am going to make my squash soup.
Trader Joe's usually has decent food, sorry your meatballs were losers.
I can just picture those cats "oh noooo.... not me!" and back into the house.
Betty, sometimes the MD will prescribe a benzopine ( a class of drugs) to take with the opiates, it makes the opiate more effective. I have only had pain that bad a couple of times in my life and hope to NEVER repeat it. I am so sorry that nothing is bringing relief.
My trouble is I would rather weed than vacuum!! I have to force myself to do housework! I am looking forward to working in the flower beds. Our winter has been milder than usual, we have had a couple of REALLY cold days and snow several times but my petunias look GREAT!!! No blooms but the plants are very healthy looking & my Snapdragons too.
Morning, been a long hard night, went outside at 5:00am and got all my shovelling done, tub running but need my body to warm up before I get in hot bath so i will enjoy my coffee and toast.
Karen, sure hope you and Walt will have a better day.
Dianne, how are you making out with these storms? And Mia?
Deb, bet you are missing your dig shows
I also take prcegablin for fibromyalgia, needles in my shoulders, only so many drugs one can take.susan he had suggested ’s, maybe it’s time we discuss it,
From the minute I get up I push myself big time, usually gets me to 1pm or so
Bath then maybe back in bed for a few hours
So many people endure chronic BAD pain. Just one of the mysteries of life I guess. Certainly not one we would choose for ourselves if given a choice!
Sorry to hear you are in so much pain Betty. Maybe surgery will help?
It’s fibromyalgia mostly, got ointment all over, main areas are hip, knees and ankles..
Sewed for an hour or so, now with sun coming in so strong I’m laying on couch pretending I’m on a lounge on Fort Myers beach. Lol
Want to finish heart throw today
Betty, please see if you can get MegaRed Joint Control. I had a friend refer me to it several years ago. That was about 6 months after my back surgery. I trusted her because she was not a whack that was going to try cooky things. I started taking it and about 20 days into it I stopped needing my pain pills and Motrin. I told my sister and she tried it for her shoulder. It worked. She tried a cheaper brand and her pain came right back. So she switched back. I was taking to my 90 year old cousin and she mentioned her shoulder and ankle pain so I told her about it. I just talked to her yesterday and she is now down to one pain pill and is telling all of her friends about it. I get mine at Costco or Amazon.
I had a nail appointment today and then went to Trader Jo's. I purchased a few pre-made dinners for Brian, Vern's son.
I walked the dogs twice and both times it was cold. They were very unhappy with me when I got home.
Pat, cats are still in the house. My geraniums are still blooming and petunias are still alive but not blooming. And I am with you on the weeding.
I was wishing for an update on Karen and her husband.
Betty you were first in my prayers last night with Karen and her husband are right behind.
I added it to my cart at Amazon. If it helps me with joint pain, I am ALL in for that!
Morning, 6F with a feel like -4f
Ziggy wanted out but am sure it won’t be long
Had hope Karen would have posted an update..sending prayers/hugs and hope today she is stronger than yesterday,
Sharon thanks for the great info on Mega Red, going into pharmacy tomorrow I hope and will look for it...I will google brand and see what is in it, if I can’t get it perhaps they will have something similar I can try to I get stateside..doesn’t look from our government alerts.,
Your prayers are much appreciated.
So envy you your gardens and plants..oh my basil is just coming up, not sure if they are as should it be, might be too cold for them
I’m tryIng to brainstorm with myself as to what I can get to keep blankets off my feet, even wondered if I bought I certain size type bin, place it under blankets end of bed
But for this morning, I’ve had my bath, hair in curlers lol, sitting on heating pad and will knit ..on my list in town I have skein cotton so I can either knit or crochet dishcloths..that will entertain me and some of mine look pretty yucky
That will be my day..what are you all up to
I'm sitting here at this early hour chugging down a can of Vernor's Ginger Ale. For those of us raised on it, it's Michigan penicillin. Bless Payton's heart he followed leads all over town until he found me some. Several places carry it but I guess there are enough transplants here that it sells out fast. Right now my tummy is very happy.
Still pretty rugged feeling, both hubby and I are sleeping a lot. I'm trying to think of something to eat besides Jello that will sit OK with my stomach. Maybe some broth and toast today.
I have had vernors before, much like our Canada Dry...
Has it been a week since you became ill? I’m prayer worse of it is behind you and soon you will eat all the good foods you like..chicken noodle noodle soup might be ok but yes maybe just start with broth..kudos to Payton for making sure you had Vernon’s.
Watching ‘The Crown’, started series 1 last night and really got into it, did my to do pick, omg had all the downstairs to wash again, the stairs and chairlift, got them done so now I am knitting while Ziggy is resting on my heating pad and enjoying..
Once floors are dry I’ll go put flange binding on the throw and if I’ve energy left will tidy up and organize project 2 of February challenge.
Sharon is coming over later, her hands are so swollen and in pain, sounds of her feet at the point she can’t walk..I’ve got the wax on for her to dip her hands in, might get some relief..will loan it to her in hopes it helps, if it does she will purchase one
This message was edited Jan 28, 2021 12:52 PM
Betty, did you mean the wax on to warm?
This is ONE type of "tent" that might be what you are looking for. https://www.easycomforts.com/buy-sheet-and-blanket-support-310583?sourcecode=30509000130&gclid=Cj0KCQiA3smABhCjARIsAKtrg6J-9TT9lorp5HPOEdCMkFQBPIXq91Dd5VQEaNKUEdAQgjP-VvbQ_DoaAhCJEALw_wcB They come in all prices and configurations. I am sure with some research you can find one that meets your needs.
"Michigan penicillin", love it!!! LOL I am always intrigued by regional remedies. Karen, I am happy to hear you are chugging along and getting better, even if it's slower than you'd like! At least you are headed in the right direction. THANK YOU for checking in. We all worry when someone goes missing.
Not sure what my plans are for the day other than tidy up a bit in the sewing room. Marie stopped by with some supplies I needed and whole bunch of stuff I would be better off without!! Now to get it put away before it paralyzes me with clutter.
Among other things she brought, some of the odd size dolls. She knows they will take customized clothes. I am at a point where saying NO SPECIAL dolls. We have always bought whatever we could find if the dolls were anything but "white". Our population here is diverse and we wanted dolls of all colors available. It makes getting them an assortment of clothing made a challenge.
I checked the web and then I called a place that provides, such things...$75 heresy
Think it’s wonderful that you are getting into new line of dolls..how caring you are Pat to think of all colours if our world
This message was edited Jan 28, 2021 4:09 PM
Two steps forward and three back. Tried toast and broth and promptly gave it back. Just not ready to move past Jello.
I am on here early to check on Betty and Karen. Very pleased you are both a little better.
I am washing the two blankets I have on my bed, so my bed is not made yet.I have walked the dogs, started laundry, made my breakfast/lunch and decided to check on here to see how everyone is doing.
Betty, I said in my post about the MegaRed that my sister tried another brand because it was cheaper and it didn't work.
My garden helper didn't come today because it is too wet to work in the garden. Suppose to rain again this evening.
I headed to make myself a cup of coffee and do some research on my office sink faucet. It is frozen on the hot side and leaking o the cold side. My daughter is coming over to help me with Kohler customer service.
This was peanut last night. She never messes with the toilet paper but I guess she needed more fluff on the floor.
Drats, not good news Karen, yep few more days of broth, nothing worse than wrenching..how about Walt, is he feeling a tad better?
I’ve been quiet today, mostly resting, snowing again so do know I will be shovelling in
the morning.
Oh Sharon, not a leak..darn they can cause a lot of damage, even slow leak.my kitchen taps are Koehler, leaking as well, the attachment that hold the hose part broke, guess like you I should be calling customer service..
peanut is just too adorable, some days one just needs to be bad
Bitter cold here but the sun shone all day. The snow is just glistening.
Sharon I took your word and ordered some Mega Red from Amazon. I've been taking Turmenic on recommendation from someone here on DG and it really has helped.
Really haven't got much done this week after that nasty fall I had. Walking the TH and bringing in wood for the stove has been all my body could handle.
Kai is very cute but man oh man is he full of energy. Wouldn't have it any other way. He's quite bright and has caught on quickly to commands. He loves his bowl that I put his kibble in. He loves it so much he carts it around the house.
Karen I hope today will have you feeling some better. Loved the Michigan penicillen - I've had Vernors.
Need to scout the fridge and see if anything appeals to me.
Stay safe and well.
Going to look at walmart, know it says there are different assortments, next time I’m 8n town.
Did I miss that you fell Dianne? Nothing broken but bruising can more painful..my Sharon says she can’t leave Milan for more than 5 minutes that she isn’t into something , sure Kai is much the same, sure zaps your energy.
Pat, after I saw your link something came to mind..those TV trays, I took top off slid handles between the mattresses and just maybe it will work, not sure though when I lift electronically end of bed up, we will see how it works tonight.
Sharon is too tired to come over for the waxed so I will go shut machines and lights in basement and maybe enjoy an early night reading
Didn’t work Pat..need something I can insert at night that like that ..raised my bed at feet and what it does is angles more on feet..back to drawing board
Sorry to hear the broth didn't work Karen. Get plenty of restsharon, peanut looks so comfy.
Dianne, sorry to hear you fell. Also praying nothing was broken.
"Gave it back"... now there is an expression that needs no explanation!! My son always ate red licorice when his tummy was queasy. He said it was one of the few things that taste the same both ways.
Sorry to hear about your fall Diane, never a good plan but goodness, short of NOT going for a walk, there is no way to avoid the risk. Do you have special shoes or anything that reduce the risk? My employer bought us all Yaktrax to enhance traction and reduce our fall risks. https://www.amazon.com/Yaktrax-Traction-Cleats-Walking-X-Small/dp/B008S6LG06/ref=asc_df_B008S6LG06/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=242000375746&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=8900326179003672146&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1027622&hvtargid=pla-571601946175&psc=1
I am grateful that Stanley has not "yet" found the toilet paper. All he needs is one my trick!!! He tests EVERYTHING against gravity and is real chewer. He likes to "taste" everything. Today he thought the little belt I put on a doll dress would make a great appetizer.
Stanley is climbing into his bed on the rack in the sewing room and that has sure made it better for me. I am grateful I found something that works. I like having him close to me, I just would prefer to NOT have him ON my work. I don't like him on my sewing desk either because I never know when he might bat at my sewing. I sure don't want to run over his paw with my sewing machine.
I didn't get much done today but the day is not over. There is still a couple of small things I would like to do that would make me feel good. Hang a wall quilt in the entry and 2 small pieces of metal art in the bathroom, not earth shattering but still would be nice to have them done.
