Nice to hear from you Sherri . I thought we had lost you

Winter Springs, FL(Zone 9b)

Thanks Keith, I do get lost at times...tee hee.

Kitt, I had to settle for this log. Texas is a long drive and I think I would have trouble at the border. Your picture inspired me to transplant this moss covered log from along side my firewood trail down by the creek to the Japanese garden. Today when my poor wife came home from work littke did she know that she was going to be part of the transplant crew. She was my other set of muscles and driver of the ATV while I balnced it on the back. She almost lost me and the log at the first narrow part of the trail but after that all went well. Not everyone has to water their log. It came from a very shady area where everything us covered in moss. There is a fair bit of shade in the Japanese garden but I think it may take a bit of watering in dry times like we are having right now

Keith, your log suits your area. Beautiful job! I can't have hostas, so I think we are even, chuckl. My sister- well, in Kansas is a county named Lincoln County. They have limestone 'logs' that were used since they had no trees. https://www.kshs.org/kansapedia/post-rock-cutting-kansas-folk-art/16558 There was an enterprising group of guys that would drag those 'posts' up and down the white rock roads of Texas to clean them, then carve into them with addresses, or names, etc. These were awesome! By the waaay, everyone drools over her log as well.

I like the look of the mossy log in your fern/hosta garden, Keith. I have some ferns, they like my shade areas, one 'Sunhosta' but it has yet to flower, I might need to move it to a bit sunnier spot...trying to find happy places for plants can be a challenge.

Ju, nice flowers, I hope you get good progress with the Goji berries, I tried some seed before but I think it got too hot here for them, I'm like the hottest zone they can grow in.

Fort Worth, TX

Optunia, huh? that's a new one for me. oh, prickly pear. Plenty of those around here. It is way hot here and I have stuff in pots that need planted. of the 5 grandchildren one came with a stomach flu so 4 here and I'm sterilizing my house, lol

Thats a great log Keith. I don't know about logs but moss stone around here will resprout moss when it rains, go black when it doesn't, then come back. I have some moss on the aquaponic tray in the greenhouse, going to throw it in the blender with some plain yogurt and paint on some plain sandstone. Rumor has it, it will grow.

The kids and I did a moss growing experiment like that when they were younger, we used buttermilk, painted on some clay pots, those pots still have moss on them to this day.

We have Resurrection Fern (Pleopeltis polypodioides) here, it grows on my garden rocks, tree bark, and the garden logs.Looks brown and dead when drought conditions, and perks right back up to beautiful lush green when it rains.

Good job on the daylily Jù

Fort Worth, TX

I have a fern I may try too Sun. It's been stuck in a waterfall for a while. I'm so tired. Kids are gone home, Viv helped, she potted up the amaryllis and other plants I lifted from my crowded front bed. She may continue to love gardening as she gets older. Hope so. (she's 4)

Winter Springs, FL(Zone 9b)

Gypsi, I think I was four when I started my love of gardening...you're her gardening mentor...♥

I too started off with a little vegetable plot inside the chicken fence at about age 4-6 and then shifted my interest to establishing a lawn and flower beds around the farm house around 10 -12. First mower was one of those antique rotary jobs and when my parents saw how serious I was about having a lawn they bought me a gas mower and then it just expanded from there. I would work in the hay fields until everyone else called it a day and then I would cut my grass and look after my flowers until dark. My parents never had to do any of that work until I left home. By then I had so much area growing grass that they went out and bought a rider LOL.

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

Moss yes it will spread that way, faster in rainy weather. Garden still hanging in there a bit, cucumbers have slowed and the deer returned, we gave a bunch away, but I made dills, and roasted the excess tomatoes for sauce to freeze.

I was actually asking Sherri if that is what her angel tree is ,,
Still really hot here ,makes it difficult to get the projects and play done ,,

Oxdrift, Canada

Sorry Ju, that was one of my senior moments. Thanks for clearing that one up! LOL looking back it looks like it may be a datura or Brugmansia

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

Keith all good I forgot to complement your pictures and that interesting log , That log looks big to carry around !

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

Angel trumpets 'look' down, Devils trumpets 'look' up. ' grass is greener on the other side' type thing. Datura, Devils trumpets.
Zinnias are coming up. Cleaning more of the garden up and out. Logs here are full of problems, rocks sink thru the sand- water runs under ground causing sinking issues. Feels hotter than it is outdoors, but the cats love lazing on the front porch.

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

Keith , I don't express myself real well either when typing here ,, so , all good , read distortions are everybody , anytime,
Kitt my zinnia will be a few weeks Cats always finding a shady place to chill and stretch , long zzzzz
