Best/Worse/What did I learn today, visit with friend old/new..all welcome to join us chat!

Cats can be so finicky.
Did you have to be in jammies to get the discount? What are the kids pillows for?

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I've been busy knitting, and so many other things that I haven't been on much.
Mary LeBlanc (who sent out the books when we were reading them) sent me a letter thanking me for returning them to her, when I found them, and said she lost the thread to chat. I sent her a link to this one, hoping it's the one she couldn't find.

My feet are getting numb, and have stabbing pains in my right heel, so went to the Dr on Tues. It was a locum & she asked if I had diabetis. Not to my knowledge, but my feet are getting worse, so I'm getting scared/concerned. Guess when my Dr's back from vacation, I should have the bloodwork done.....

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Have them check for plantar fasciitis. Don't let them do surgery if it is that. I had it done on both feet, and it does not relieve the pain. Sit or lay down, and pull your feet up and stretch them. Also make sure you wear a shoe with good arch support.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Linda, I haven't made a rug, I'd like to so read about it. Seems I read the larger and flatter your sewing area, the flatter your rug will be. I suppose ideally those machines that fit into cabinets so you have a large area would be perfect. Failing that, if you could make a flat attachment to expand your area is a possibility. A piece of wood or plexiglass with short legs to make it as high as the sewing bed of your machine of your machine bed, with a cut out so it fits snugly to your machine would work very well. Sounds confusing I know but I know they exist, maybe Google for them.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all

Clear day, expecting high of 16F, no snow until Tuesday..

Bad bad body pain day yesterday, pushed myself until 11 then the couch/bed became my best friend.

Been up sitting for a few hours, yesterday’s purchases are still waiting to go downstairs, going to finish coffee and toast then downstairs I go.

Makes sense Karen re the curling..how are things going at the house? Driveway paved?now that I’m not going with the generac I might get a quote.

LIndakay good info for Susan, sometimes at our age surgery can cause more problems/pain than before surgery..a lot to consider..Susan if you get those inserts that may be the answer.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Years ago I had the plantar fasciitis and I was able to resolve it with special exercises that strengthened and lengthened the muscle. I stood close to a wall with one foot tipped up against the wall, leaning over and over again against the wall, which pulled/extended the muscles on the foot. Between that, and NOT going barefoot anymore, being sure to have good arch support in my shoes, it resolved.

Karen, the commercial extensions that you are describing are available and expensive!

Mostly cleaning & sorting here. I hope to get the "new bedroom" ready for painting. I am clearing out office to get a single bed in there. I wish I did not collect "stuff" like a magnet. I have WAY TOO much 'stuff".

I bought a 2nd hand OLD kitchen table to replace one of my big banquet folding tables. My former table was just too long to fit the space and it made the 'entry' into my sewing area to narrow AND stuck into the gaming area. This new one should work well. I hope to get a 'skirt' made for it with Velcro attachment. I want to store stuff under the table but not have the clutter seen.

Maybe getting the Christmas tree down & put away ought to make it to the "To do" list today before I have to decorate it for Valentines?? LOL

Victoria Harbour, ON

Lol I’m holding off on putting valentines day things out till next weekend.
You sure are ambitious Pat, always something going on in your world, not a wonder you are exhausted.

I’m puddl8ng in craft room

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Dr said, in April, that I do have plantar fasciitis, and that's why I went to Physio. I also have Birkenstalk insoles. Doesn't help much - feet are getting worse. I got an x-ray on Tues, so will see what that shows.
I hear "you can get custom orthodics made and paid for" and "no, we don't pay for custom orthodics" when I called 2 branches of the gov't/health care.
I'll see if any of my senior friends can tell me where they got theirs paid for. I have a prescription for them.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Worth looking into Susan..

Played in craft room all day..did 5 pillows (except pillow insert) will make it easier to store in totes until Christmas..

Have fabric to do 3 more but I don’t have the embroidered 8nsert ps so I’m go8ng to put my feet up and find something to watch, have a bowl of cereal and voila bed time soon after

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Love, love, love the new driveway. Our trip to MI was good timing to let it cure properly. Just got home about an hour ago. Trip home was good expected bad weather did not happen. Going to meet with new Drs. this week. Hope we are a good fit. Should be fine as long as they don't push me for extra physicals and tests. I don't agree to them.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all, 1f right night, going to be an inside day for sure.

Karen, bet drive looks spiffy..how many more trips north do you have this winter?
Guess you don’t have your sewing room set up as yet, hooefully it will be soon.
Good luck with doctor..

Deb and Debbie how are you both doing?

Dianne, knee any better?

Restless night so decided to finally get up at 5..not much happening here, when you don’t go out there isn’t much to gab about.,keeping busy inside.

Verona, ON

Good morning everyone.

Bitter cold here. I had to get up twice in the night to stoke the stove. It is just smacking it's lips and saying "more". I might have to order more wood at this rate.

Still hobbling along Betty. Everything depends on how much I do each day. I can't let this knee get in the way of my daily activities.

Oh Karen I am envious of your new paved drive. I get so much dust from the drive and lane. Pea gravel was put down on the drive which helped but I will have to rake it all back come Spring. The plow moves it into a pile.

You know my feet never bothered me until the last couple of years. Susan I hope you can get some relief.I never understood how painful it was when DH complained about his feet aching. I do run around barefoot most of the time. Years ago DH gave me a Dr Scholl's foot bath which I use often. I put epsom salts in the water as I soak my feet.

Pat did you get any rest or just me down time this weekend ?

Going into Ktown this morning meeting friends for lunch. That is if I can get moving.

Stay safe and warm.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

New driveway is wonderful. Being away gave it a chance to harden properly.
Hopefully if we make anymore trips they will be for fun.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

I have contractors coming out my ears. The repair work on the facia and soffits of the exterior of the house with installation of gutters shortly after has started, 2 guys doing the demolition.

Other guy spraying texture on bathroom walls today!! They prime tomorrow. the medicine cabinet is supposed to be delivered tomorrow.

I ordered the curtains & throw rug for the bedroom. Still need to buy new curtain rod. I am HOPING to get that bedroom finished within 2 weeks.

Off to buy paint for bathroom & bedroom... and drop off donations, make it back in time for my youngest son to help me take boxes out to the barn & move some stuff up to the loft, and move some furniture in the bedroom that needs painting.... It is always hard for me to go back to work on Tuesday. ALWAYS so much more I want to do. Most weekends I don't get much done on Saturday, recuperating from work week. Tuesday I recuperate for weekend work!! Thank goodness for Mondays, that extra day off is when I get some DONE!

Our cement drive way looks terrible but with all the work that guys do on their cars, I just try to keep my mouth shut. Somebody bought the wrong kitty litter (to use to absorb car fluids) and it made NASTY mess all over. I had to take a scraper to it to get the stuff off the drive. Ben goes thru it with his wheelchair and tracks into the house. It's not like "taking off your shoes!"

Someday I'll get reacquainted with my sewing machines & garden!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Dianne - Totally With you on not letting mobility issues getting in the way of being active. I let it drag me down 2 years ago (along with other things) and ended up getting blood clots in my lungs for being too sedentary - NOT going to happen again. I swim, bowl & ice skate (mostly bowling).
Got a call from the Dr's office - it's official, I have bone spur(s) in my right ankle. I think it's been building up since one of the falls I had outside in Jan/Feb 2018. I'm going to the Dr's office Thurs am for a followup. We'll see what, if anything, can be done. Friend of mine had a cortizone shot & (zap) on her foot, and now - no bone spur! They were working on something else on her foot - think it was her bunion.
I don't have bunions, but if they can (zap) my foot, it would be wonderful!

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

WOW, that would be great Susan!! Wish that had been option for my hand!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all, high of. 38f today..that is good new and bad news..tad of snow overnight and now calling for freezing rain..maybe the girls will stay home.

susan, here is hoping the shot and zap will do the trick, am sure it’s painful walking.

Pat,mis your hand still giving you the what for?

Garbage day, best I check what in the refrigerator can be thrown out and get it to the curb.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Good morning. I was at quilting yesterday, working on kids quilts. I was almost done with the free motion quilting, and the tension in my machine went wonky. I re theaded the machine, I cleaned out the fuzz, I changed needles. Nothing fixed it. I will mess with it again today. Sad part is, there are no machine repair shops for 160 miles, and I will be without a machine for at least 2 weeks if I do take it in. I might be in the market for another machine. :(

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Linda check under and behind the bobbin area. Thread and lint can build up there and be hard to see. I was surprised when I got to really digging how much thread I found.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Yes, amazing pg how much thread builds up, I clean my machines in bobbin area likely every 3-4 hrs of sewing..more if using flannel.

Do you have correct needle in for material being used..am sure you are if it was working right before. How about oiling, is your machine one that needs oil8ng

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I'm not saying they would zap my heel, I'm saying it was what happened to a friend, when she had another proceedure done - it also took care of her bone spur.
I'm thinking that when I fell outside in Jan & Feb last year that I may have injured my heel & that's why the bone built up in that spot.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

My machine says do not oil.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Might have been Susan..

L8ndakay dis you play with it today..you took your bobbin casing out and played..one thing that happened to me is I put a new needle in and didn’t insert it deep inside shaft so made awful stitching

Dont knowwhere,I cut myself, just saw blood on iPad grrr

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Yes, I took it apart. There was lots of fuzz under the bobbin casing. Running good now.

Victoria Harbour, ON

That’s good..so frustrating when that happens

Ziggy likes the quilt I just took off the frame, he is snuggled in the crevices lol

In bed, murder she wrote is on, time to relax, maybe even fall asleep

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Linda, glad you are up and running again.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

ACKKK machine problems!! I have the unrealistic expectations to have smooth running machine.. always... hehehe
Yes the hand is still painful and I see ortho next Monday.
On the brighter side, I am liking my new Cpap unit. the head gear fits better, I am rarely having trouble with leaking.
I am thinking we might just skate thru this winter without snow!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morningll,

Quite a bit of snow here this morning..Andrew cameos is not have gotten out for my perm later this afternoon..winds are really high..weather warning in my region.

Woke up a few times early morning, turned around and fell asleep again..omg just got up...can you imagine..

Off for coffee and a muff8n

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

We had snow once but it was gone in a few hours. Supposed to be quite mild this week-end.

Lyndonville, NY

Betty, it is about time you listened to your body and slept in. Everything you need to do will be there waiting when you get up. BUT you need rest.

Woke up to ice. Shane went to work and messaged me "DO NOT go out!" It has melted most off already except my car is encased in the mess. Steps cleared up thankfully.

Wind is picking up and sky is very dark. They are talking a few inches until Friday. THEN Saturday all heck breaks loose with about a foot if they are correct.

Everyone stay safe and warm.
Debbie

Verona, ON

Windy here but not the bitter cold we had. Although tomorrow the temp is supposed to tank with a storm blowing in by the weekend. Debbie it sounds like you are in for the same snow.

Well I just signed the papers for a 2016 gently used Escape. I pick it up on Mon. I could have had it Fri but it will be easier for me on Mon. I know the lady who had the Escape before me - she lives not too far away so I know it was well taken care of. My cleaning lady is interested in my 2002 Escape so we will see.It has less than 134,000 km on it so it is really just a baby.

Was freezing rain over night and just off and on flurries today.Keep the snow today Betty.

Oh rub it in Karen about the snow .... lol. I am so happy for you both. You had enough snow to deal with in Michigan.

What's everybody up to today ?

Stay safe and warm.

Betty - you put a bandage on your owie, I would hope. Difficult to do any hand-work with a bandage though lol Sweet that Ziggy loves your quilt lol

Going to a Red Hatter's Old Fashioned Social Tea this afternoon. We're go bring our hand-work with us, so I'm bring the prayer shawl I'm working on.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Still just cool and wet, some days high winds. SUPER mild winter.

I totally forgot that we get Martin Luther King day off, that gives me a 4 day weekend! Yahoooooo… maybe get that bedroom painted AND hire help to prepare for the new flooring in the game room. The bathroom might be done by tomorrow evening.

I am cold and tired, if I can get Ben's leg unwrapped, I can go to BED early.

Verona, ON

Good morning everyone. Bitter cold here.

Woo hoo on the long weekend for those of you in the US.

Pat I hope you got to bed early last night. Will you get a bit of a sleep in sometime over the weekend ?

Enjoy your day ladies.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all,

My weather is much like yours Dianne, frigid temps and more colder predicted over next few days with storm moving in for the weekend..have an embroidery class Saturday in Cookstown, an hour drive from here, won’t happen if there is bad weather.

Was a busy day yesterday..had company in the afternoon, perm, went shopping and voila was bedtime..

Happy for you Pat having a long weekend, 4 days in a row to work from home, was going to say ‘to rest’ but know you never rest lol.

Our next l9ng weekend is Family day mid February..planning a buffalo trip that weekend if weather cooperates.

Susan bet all in attendance red the red hatters ohh’ed and ahh’d at your prayer shawl in the works.

Ohh look at you Dianne, new wheels, love the escape, low mileage for sure..will last you quite awhile as you do little to no. Mileage.

Marlene brought me a wonderful gift yesterday, a clear pie I glass for one of my machines, all but the older models have one now..so very nice of her.

Today I’ve a chore ahead of me, hand sewing binding on queen size quilt, will take most of the day...almost done another pillow panel and yesterday did a dragon, awesome but too time consuming for me.

Girls come tonight, I always enjoy that..

Ziggy wants out so best I let him out, crying and crying to do so drives me crazy.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Those tables are nice. I need to get me one for my machine.

Victoria Harbour, ON

I have one at the other machines and live the extra work space..have one for my quilter and don’t use it as it’s on the frame trolley but keep it as you never know when I’ll get another quilter.

Girls just left, going to play solitaire for a bit in hopes I fall asleep doing so.

Hope you’ve all had a good day

Night night

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Betty - there were a lot of handicrafts at the Red Hatter's "do". Mine wasn't any nicer than anyone else's. There were a lot of beautiful things.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Susan, I'll bet it was fun seeing all the different projects.

Betty!! I want to see the dragon!! I am hoping my sister will embroidery dragons on towels for the 3rd bathroom.

I jinxed myself. I said the bathroom would be ready on Friday and floor would start on Monday....

The vanity did not come, won't get here until Saturday, install Monday. ALL the flooring that was ordered for the game room, factory sent the wrong stuff. They don't have the right stuff in stock and no word yet on when they are going to do another production run of the color I ordered.

One thing about it, I don't have to work on clearing the game /sewing room for new floor!! Saved myself that weekend work. I do hope to get the new small bedroom (formerly office) painted and set up. I am a little nervous taking down old rod and putting up new different kind of curtian rod. I had hoped for help but doesn't look like I will get it... oh well. I will do it alone.

the exterior contractors claim they will be done possibly tomorrow but I am not paying anything more until I have examined the job in the DAYLIGHT. Ben sure can't.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

oh Pat - what a lot of headaches you're having!
Trust me though, I've gone through as many, so know what you're going through - took 2 1/2 years to get where we are, and still have some floors to replace. Our renovations have taken a long time, but the structural stuff is done, and you will be able to say "It's done" and be happy that you were able to put your own touch on how things are done. *Hugs* to you.
