Victoria Harbour, ON

Glad pancake breakfast went well..no it was tummy and sensation of vomiting, passed now

Went outside as I could hear chainsaws etc..

I’m impressed, a few guys hired to clean next door neighbours yard, working hard, he built a few flower boxes out front, bought a whole bunch of annuals..said that when back is clean he is putting their toys from front to back so kids can play..maybe he took out talk to heart.

As they are not gardeners I said I’d help with flower beds and give him some perennials..I’ll help do anything if it means clean yard.

He asked if I wanted him to help with fence, I said no as likely he would start using it to pile stiff onto sooooo I say this nicely and jokingly and he doesn’t seem to take offense

Oh happy days

That’s today but he does seem gong ho

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

HOORAY, Betty!! Sounds like he did take your talk to heart. He should be proud to be next door to your beautiful yard.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Wow. Maybe the city talked to him?

Betty, make sure you are drinking plenty of fluids when you are in that heat.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Don’t know, but he is on a mission...lol

Not working in heat l8ndakay, spent most of the day in the house..just had an off hour, ok now

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Do you think you know exactly what it was you ate that caused your tummy to turn like that, Betty?

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Betty, I love that Blue spiderwort. So pleased your neighbor is kicking in and doing some work. You are such a sweet person, how could he not do something to help the nice lady next door.

105 here today but low humidity so I did some gardening. I am trying to do an hour a day. I cannot leave Vern alone for very long. I do have help so I only do some extra watering and dead heading.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all..high of 73today with rain moving in late afternoon

Sharon that’s as bad as being in an oven, don’t know how you and lindakay deal with that heat..July is coming so do hope you order cooler weather for me.

Will be seeing our Liz and Kenny in San Francisco and there I believe we are to take sweaters or light jackets, don’t know why I thought it would be as warm as you guys but we will take it, so want to see both your areas. It will be time before you know it.

How is Vern, is he able to sit outside at all?

Wondering if the young men who worked yesterday will be back today seeing it’s sunday? Now I’m getting over anxious aren’t I, wanting it done today lol

Nothing planned for the day, know I’ve watering to do amd sometoo soil to shovelbut I’ll not overdo, remainder of the timeill playin the sewing room.

What is in your plans for the day?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I am working on cutting my blocks for the swap. Almost done.

Victoria Harbour, ON

I got a lazy on right after making breakfast, starting to feel nauseated when I eat something substantial for sticking with pudding and applesauce so no supper for me..even fruit bowl not sitting well so pudding and jello for me for a bit so slept most of the day..

Won’t be long lindakay you will have the blocks sewn especially if temps stay as they are.

I actually put heat on this morning, take dampness out of the air

Right now the winds up, grey sky, storm rolling in.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sure hope you are feeling better soon.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

I spent about an hour outside watering and deadheading. It was brutal but I make my goal doable. Hummers are everywhere that is near the waterfall on the KOI pond. Must be cooler there. I made some more nectar. I will change tomorrow. I have not read the paper yet and probably will not get to it. We have no appointments this week except for one on Thursday for my nails. Easy week.

Going to be even hotter tomorrow.

Betty, they have helicopter tours of Grand Canyon and they have walking tours of Hoover Dam. You just drive out to the Dam site and they tour you down into the dam works. Very interesting. There is plenty of parking.

Vern gets outside once in a while but today has not been a good day. He is really confused and combative. First time in a long time. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

LK - had you posted what your block will be? I think only Betty & I let the cat out of the bag lol

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

No, I am going to make 3 different blocks for each of you, and want them to be a surprise.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all, rained all night, high of 54 today, wind is up and rain expected later in the day..one day a/c is on, next day heat.

Sharon, maybe you could help, I’ve been looking at tours for both Grand Canyon amd Hoover Dam, either they do just Hoover dam or Grand Canyon ..Grand Canyon south rim passing Hoover dam etc..almost thinking of driving..have you ever driven to Grand Canyon?

I put out hummer feeders but no hummers, not many birds either, perhaps Ziggy scares them away.

I just did Minor clean up in craft room after girls were here so I’m thinking I’ll go reorganize and clean and just maybe a bit of sewing today..keep outdoor work when a sunshine day.

Grabbing my coffee and heading downstairs before I’m tempted to lay on the couch

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

oooooooh a surprise........ I love surprises!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Love surprises as well..

A few minutes ago Greg dropped in, said he brought me a present, looked all over the kitchen, living room, no pressie, said look outside..there is the Foxy Lady, Roger’s love, 23’ glastron with Cody.

Not sure what im doing with the Foxy Lady but she is home..

Andrew dropped in this morning, ordered the fencing materials and he said likely bring equipment tonight so he can mark out and drill holes for posts so guess mid week is weather permits I’ll have a fence

Hooray for the fence plans going ahead, and a timeline no less!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, rain is holding out, girls just left, I took out a project to work on for the afternoon but starting to feel tired.

Just few the men lunch, they said if I keep up with drinks amd l7nch they will not want to leave the job.

Andrew had to cut lots of shrubs/trees down, did manage to leave the 2 biggest limb overhangs and might be able to build around them...they now have clear path, the holes are dug and they are now cementing posts in then that is it for the day..tomorrow if it doesn’t rain they can start to build..who knows might be finished tomorrow night or thursday a.m.
should go take a look but hate to see cute patio out back with all trees gone and a lot of the ground dug up by machine...
Two steps forward and theee back..looked so pretty, now not so much.

Big big sigh

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Betty - it's a case of "damned if you do, and damned if you don't". If the trees aren't cut & the fence up, you'd be looking at mess, and that would be more distressing. Now (like me, eh?) you'll have a clean slate, and can have fun putting hardscape stuff in, with space to do so. Don't worry - it'll look cute again, because we know how you love your lovely space :-)

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I agree with Susan, you weren't happy with the neighbors mess, now you will be happy, and it will give you projects to do for the landscaping. In a few weeks, you will be praising your new fence.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Yep, problem is now that growth is green hides his back yard and junk, not till fall again will it be visible..oh well, guess pear and cherry trees can be replaced. Too bad they couldn’t have dug holes and replanted but then if be paying $$$, cheaper to buy and set back further near fence as I could hardly open umbrella back there but did look cozy.

Feel like a nap but I just put a cake in oven, haven’t done that in ions, don’t want to burn it so best keep awake..think cold weather is making me look for nap..have fireplace on.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Wish I could send you some of our heat. 102 right now.

Victoria Harbour, ON

I’d like heat but not 102, I’d be satisfied with 72
Andrew had trouble with a couple of post because of rock, put him behind
Still working but am sure it’s time to call it a day, f8nish cementing tmr

Victoria Harbour, ON

Feel like crying but won’t..

Before

Same area after brushing and post drilling
And the ruts all over lawn which he will fix but I’ll have to seed

Took a photo of the entire fencing length cleared

Not end of the world I guess

Betty - you'll be happy when it's re-done, and now you can do some planning! what kind of grass seed do you use? I'm trying to over-seed our lawn - it's weed haven right now. It was never properly seeded/sodded, and it was not levelled properly either, so it's got clumps of ground to walk on - not the nicest thing to walk on, I'll tell you. If it were our property, we would strip the soil to smooth & re-sod it, but it's a large property, and it's rented so not going to do that.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Construction always looks bad during the process, but it will look lovely when done.

It reached 112 this afternoon. AC is working hard today.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

I suppose you're cooling down with showers or baths? I know when it got overly hot in Winnipeg, they said seniors & babies were who it affected the most & recommended baths to lay in. Some people almost stayed in them all day......... just to keep their temperatures down

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all, high of 61today..no rain till weekend...still 9n chilly side though.

I just cannot imagine lindakay living in those temps, What do you keep indoor temps at?

Yes Susan, pathway to back garden could be sodded but yard much to big to start sodding so once the equipment is gone and some grading occurs re ruts I’ll seed amd what will be this year will be..I’ll pick up a few ninebard , fruit trees and plant in area between pack patio and fence along with hostas, in a few years I’ll be back to where I am...

Once I see the fence up I guess the area will take on a different look amd I’ll come up with all kinds of ideas.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Our AC is set at 73.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

73F inside still sounds kind of warm.......

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, 64here right now and sunny but wind is cooling things down..guys are just getting ready to come in for lunch, I spoil them they say lol

Dealing with yard issues,my problem is I like the feeling I’m deep in a forest, I fight them (during Spring and fall clean up) not to cut a limb, my lot is soooo full of trees, in some areas I hanve to duck under limbs when cutting grass on a rider lol

It’s ok, I’ll deal with whatever..already thought about a large 6 pane window I’ve under the back deck storage,mi could add design on the glass, hang it, put a few walking stones from patio to the window and plant sides..yep mind is trying real hard to make beast of it

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Spoiled guys who are working is great. It's when they stop working & wait to be spoiled that it turns on you. lol
It keeps 'em coming back to help with other "issues" though, right?

Victoria Harbour, ON

and goal is to get last 4poles in, hope there is no rock formation to cause them grief, if all ok they will start the forming and board8ng..guess finish up will be tomorrow then my work begins.

I might go out amd pick weeds for awhile, Ontario voting today, worse choices ever if you ask me, then to the bank and drop in to say bye to the lady that runs the fabric shop, she closes tomorrow and I’ve a scanner for Janine 9000, multiple embroidery disk, special cut out designs and a leader unit that I no longer need, she has a 9000 so I’ll give it all to her, no sense my storing it.

Would also like to include a hair cut if Liz has an open appointment.

What ison your schedule today? Hope lindakay the temps lower at least into the 90’s

Grab my coffee and it’s time to do garden walk around, peonies should be in bloom shortly

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I got my watering done. Now I can finish my blocks for the swap.

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

Getting ready for big dog shows tomorrow. Greater Chicago Afghan Hound club has 2 shows. Need to get the car cleaned out after work. Make sure I've got clothes to show in. May need to run to the laundromat, my washer decided to stop working. It won't spin out the water, my son will look at it, but is out of town for a week. Just hoping the weather holds, there is a chance of thunderstorms, and the shows are outside with no cover. Showing wet dogs is not fun!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Another hot day for you then lindakay..are you on water restriction?

Deb, sure hope weather cooperates, maybe earlier or later in the day for thunderstorms soyou can enjoy the show..how long of a drive?

Maybe you just need a belt, happened to mine and luckily Greg replaced it for me.

Lordy the neighborhood is a buzz

Next door at the convenience/pizza place they are putting a new roof on part of the facility, then my guys are doing fencing, saws and equipment going on then , guy across the street is putting new barrier on his side of drive, 4 doors up an entire team is finishing up on ground work of the humongous house they’ve just built and lo and behold, drum roll please, my next door neighbor has working cleaning the yard, a pile about 6’ high in the middle, they will keep adding and have dumpster pick it up, NOW after I put what will be about $4,800 into my project vs $4,200 estimated, extra wood/cement and likely more labour over the $4,800..of course I had them do extras like side area both top and bottom for more support and enclosing top end, oh well, too late for crying

Sun is shinning, makes things brighter..already where they are closing end where neighbors yard is I’m thinking what pretty area can I put here lol. Mind working overtime!

Verona, ON

Betty very rarely do contractors come under their quote . In part it is my fault as I ask them to do extras like you.

Going to vote but think I will just decline to vote as that counts.Maybe I'll vote the Green party candidate.

Oh Deb wishing you the best of luck and a dry weekend. When we were on the road with the SG business I welcomed the dog show owners as hotel neighbours. Those dogs were far quieter than hockey parents and their kids.

Ok need to shower and get into the village do my errand, vote get home.

Our fault indeed, he brought an extra helper today, think Andrew just wants to get it done..

When I was cleaning off back deck Andrew said that when the built here years ago they must have broken up cement pad and back then they would just bury in back yard, just ran into mega trouble again with another post..3 more to go, sure hope no rock.

As for extras, there were 6cedars around an arch, he was being ever so careful not to damage, I told him they didn’t look healthy, pull them out..

Was tempted to vote Green Party as well but one less vote almost guarantees a win for Ford so must figure which of two evils to vote for grrrr what is the political choices coming to.

Tummy hungry, realized I haven’t had breakfast yet, hmmm think I’ll have cereal as I’ll order pizza for the guys lunch, least I can do
