Best/Worse/What did I learn today?chat with friends old/new..

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Yes, LK - will move it VERY much. My left knee still isn't doing well enough. You know that movement you make to the outside, and that muscle "screams" at you? Yeah, that one..... I think the muscle got shortened somehow and just does not want to move. If I attempt to, it's painful. I won't be making the mistake of not moving my right leg outwards - I'm sure, with time, my left will get better but not any time soon, that's for sure. It's already been 7 months.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I got an email from the quilt of valor group, and they want me to present a quilt to one of out local veterans, so I am gathering fabric from my stash, and will be working on that.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

You will be an excellent presenter Linda Kay. Can't wait to see your quilt.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Thanks Barb.

Morning all, raining here and we've low 50's..storm must be brewing, has to be 100 or more blackbirds swarming around

Lindakay, what an honor, I'm sure your quilt will be cherished..bet you are anxious to start..is the veteran near you?

Susan, takes time I guess to get dull usage, won't be fun recouping from this upcoming surgery when the last one is still giving you the what for.

Just got back from visiting with Ned and Sophie, one more trip this afternoon to let them out and my duties dog sitting is over.

Thinkill go downstairs and play for the day, projects await me, might even try doing a cork pumpkin although I don't haveembellishments I can get the base done...

Kids last hurrah today, back to school tomorrow, Braedon in in British Columbia inhis 3rd year(most western province) and Caleb is in Windsor, here is hoping they have a good year.

That would be nice, very patriotic looking

Greg just called, said they would be home around 3 so seeing I let dogs. Out at 11:30 I'll not have to go back.

Found the couch again lol. Bad me

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Betty - you're so right - without full usage on this one, the 2nd surgery recovery won't be fun. The PT said I should wait 18 months, and the Dr's office was calling 2 weeks after, asking when I wanted it done.....

Adorable twins!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Bob & I just got the most interesting proposition - our neighbours across the street asked if we would be interested in adopting their cat SuzyQ. He (yes, HE) is at our house more than theirs and their lifestyle means they're away more than they're home...... Unfortunately, one of our property managers said it's a rule that all the Park's cats are to be indoor cats. Also, I think he has worms. He's SO thin, and even though we, and others in the Park are feeding him, he's still skin & bones.
He's a beautiful cat & it would be a pleasure to have him, but the cost....... and upkeep - it's inviting another mouth to feed, and we're barely making it as it is.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

It is so hard to turn away from an animal in need but there are times when it is best. I think this is one of them Susan. We all know where your heart lies but this time it needs to be your head that rules. I'm sure they will find a home for the cat....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all, high of 64 today with rain and rain all week, hard to do outside work with weather being as it is. Must have had quite a storm last night, put garbage to the roadside and branches all over.

Barb is right Susan, now is not the best time to be taking in a cat when it is looking so poorly..best you can do is provide nutritious food when he comes to visit.

Did Bob start his new job yet or is it more when weather turns to winter conditions.

Debbie how are you doing today after your fall, no worse for it I hope.

Deb you and family doing ok

Pat do you also have today off, did you get to enjoy some of the weekend

Hope Dianne posts soon, starting to frethat she is unwell

lindakay do you have fabrics for your quilt or are you waiting till you go to San Antonio?

Girls are coming in a bit, best have my coffee
Waving to everyone else,

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I have fabrics here. Pulling them from my stash.

Lyndonville, NY

Good morning,

Betty, I called the doctor. Nurse got on and said "you know your not 25 any more and still climbing on things!" I said NOOOOOO I fell on a walkway at the beach it was slick from algae. "Oh". Well, we can't see you til Friday. Then asked 20 questions. I have an appointment for Friday.....but if i get dizzy, nauseas or vision messed up....I am to go to the ER.

I think the twins are 4.....and going into Pre-K as we call it here. Gets them ready for Kindergarden. Like a pre-school. They sure looks so cute and growing!

Susan, why don't you ask them to have the cat to the Vet...find out the illness issue, and then you will take her. You can get a bag of decent food, for about $7.00 that will last a month. Any thing Purina is better than a store brand which is high in ash and they shouldn't have. Also, you will need to consider cat litter and cleaning pan. WIth up coming surgery.....you may want to rethink it as you said as that will fall on your hubby.

Betty we got the storm last night something terrible. 2 different rounds moved through.

Also REMINDER. It is September. Find out what your boys are doing for Halloween so you are not in the same fix as last year! Haha

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

I got Monday off, same as everyone else in the company but I get Tuesday off too since Monday is my regular day off. I told my son I was going to practice being an adult and spend some time cleaning out my closet. Pull out clothes that I don't like or don't fit... prepare for fall clothes. You know the drill.
The weather conditions here are pretty awful. Hot and LOTS of smoke in the air from fires further away. It's giving my asthma fits, affecting my sweet dad although he is inside only.
We had the family meeting, it went OK and we'll see.

I agree that at the very least the neighbor needs to take cat to the vet before considering adopting it out to ANYONE. My 2 cents. Susan, if you have doubts, think long and hard. He is not even your cat and you are worried about him. Imagine the extra emotional and financial burden if he is sick and YOUR cat? I had rehome my cat (she tripped Ben twice), and it still breaks my heart to think of her. BUT whatever you decide, it will be the right decision for YOU. You are smart lady and we will support whatever decision you make! .

Verona, ON

Sun is trying to come out. Yesterday and most of the night it was pouring rain, a T and L show and very windy.

I unplugged myself from everything very early Sat. morning. I was just in a deep rut and needed to pull myself out of it.Not going to tell you I am all bushy tailed but my mind set is much more positive..

Deb my heart aches for your DD. I hope she will find some peace and not second guess herself. and question did she miss something. Sending positive calming thoughts her way.

Woo hoo Pat ! Nice to have a couple of days in a row. Excellent advice for Susan Pat. I took on a pup from a shelter.... and the best thing I can say is I would never take a puppy from them again nor would I recommend them. Yep that's my Duke.

Betty I am so glad you listened to your body.

Susan here in Ktown they used to do both knees at once. I refused and it was a good thing I did as I had to have the right knee done again just a few weeks later. Part broke. I heard they no longer do that. If you had both done at the same time you could not go home they released you to a Rehab hospital.

Debbie I have basically given up on the local doc and will just go to urgent care if I need something looked at. I understand it is NOT the fault of the new doc it was circumstances that just blew everything up. I too was told that I was not a youngster anymore and should keep that in mind. Plus I can call directly the Neuro surgeon and Neuro Opthma docs if I need them.

Need to go move Diesel. He is a hurting dog right now. I am hoping with rest, only going outside by himself and some baby aspirin his leg will feel better.

Dianne and her TH

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

1. Cat - not going to take him in, but we will continue to care for him when he shows up. Not just dry food, but Bob insisted on him having milk as he's so thin. Talked to property manager, and he said all pets are to be indoor pet, and the neighbours signed that in the lease...... 28 lots = 28 pets and some have 3 or more. We just can't take on a pet, unless it's a bird or fish lol
2.Surgery on the 18th - can't even help our friends by taking in their dog when he goes in for a pacemaker - too rambunctious.
3. knees - I was too high risk to have both knees done at once, because of my lung blood clots in 2015. They will do both at once, if you're not high risk, but my surgeon said "what would you use for a leg to put your weight on?"

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Glad to see you check in Dianne. What happened to Diesel?

Susan, if it is the park policy for cats to be an inside cat, why is he outside all the neighbors feeding him?

Betty, I saw these on Facebook, and thought of you.

Lots more ideas here.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I think because he's such a friendly cat and goes into people's houses that they feed him - they can't see an animal go in need. He is a lovely, and polite cat. By which I mean, he doesn't go onto the table, etc. He's very loving.
We didn't want him to become feral......
Have to start decorating for fall - will paint this.......

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Long long time ago.. I found a kitten, black skinny with eye infection. I bought the medication, cured the eye problem and feed her until she was fat & shiny. THEN the neighbor came to me and said "stop feeding MY cat and she won't come to your house but STAY home!"... so I stopped feeding the kitten. She got thin again.

Sooooo... when my DBIL's brother's needed a cat for their farm, I scooped her up and explained the deal (not mine but neighbor's NOT taking care of her) and she lived her life out on the farm.

I was told that milk for grown cats is not good for their digestive system. but who knows?

Did I miss something? what is up with Diesel?

Deb, I hope your DD considers finding a good support group to talk about the loss. It is a very unique loss that needs support from people who have been there.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Debbie now you know you'd be telling me Friday justwontdo, off to emerge, now it's your turn youare not listening Missy. Did your camera survive the fall?

Poor Addy, she has no friends from day care in her class, Alex hasbiut 6 so he is enjoying 1sr day while Addy needed dad to bring her in and just didn't want to be there

Not really sure what Diesel did but he can't put much weight on his left rear leg. His right one was hurt back when he was 1 and he has favoured it since then. Each step is agony for the poor guy. When I took him in when he hurt his first leg I was told to treat it I would pay anywhere from $3000.00 to $7000.00 and he would probably have to go to Ottawa for the surgery. And of course it might work or might not. I love Dies with all my heart but that is quite a chunk for something that might not work. When Ana my Sammie tore her cruciate and I had the surgery done it took over a year for her to get back to normal. Plus I slept on the living room floor with her for months so she wouldn't go up the stairs..Now he has just limped into this room to lay on my feet. It just hurts to see him in such pain. He twigged out I was hiding a low dose aspirin in a bit of canned food.so I had to shove it down his throat. That he doesn't mind.

It's hard to believe those twins are starting school. What a blessing they are to their family.

Need to scope out the fridge and see what's in there to eat. There will be lots of fruit but not much else. Oh ya there are 6 dark chocolate bars.
Dianne and her TH

Victoria Harbour, ON

Trade you turkey for chocolate Dianne.

Fees are out of reach for most people when it comes to medical services for our furries, likely justneeds to rest it a bit.

Last year figures such as yourswas given forsophieand herback, talk of maybe having to put her Dow, with muscle relaxants and rest she has never even bothered again. Here is hoping things work out for him, poor dear

Verona, ON

I'm all in for that trade Betty. I love turkey !!

I am hoping that if Diesel rests his leg it will be OK. It will never be perfect again but that's fine.. You should hear him cry - it is more like a wail when I take the other 2 out. He looks out the window. When he first hurt his right leg I just made him rest but Quill was here. and she liked nothing better to lay around and look cute. I am going to check and see if he can have Robaxacet. That's a muscle relaxer that I use. There are a couple of kinds but there is 1 that doesn't have aspirin in it.

Still need to get to the fridge..
Dianne...

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Pat - bless you for looking after the kitten's welfare, and forever home!
Dianne - poor Diesel! Sounds like he's suffering. He didn't mind you shoving a pill down his throat, but he doesn't like you hiding them from him in food? Interesting..... usually the other way around lol

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Ask you vet for some rymadyl, also called Carprofen . It is just for dogs. It is an anti inflammatory. That is what we give to Luna for her bad leg.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

My Mini Doxie, Oscar, ruptured several vertebrae, which happens commonly with doxies.. Poor little guy was paralyzed in his rear. Surgery was $6000. My savings towards a new kitchen. Afterwards vet said keep him from jumping on furniture...well it was his favorite pass time and he wouldn't use a ramp. Vet then said well if he does it again we'll just fix it again. I told her you know I love this little guy but, no it won't be fixed again. Fortunately it didn't. They do get you by the heartstrings.

Morning all, well almost afternoon..

Happy Birthday Barb, hope you have a spectacular day..anything special planned?

Lordy Karen that was a lot to out out, lucky for you the fipumds were well spent but doesn't always happen that way.

Although they call for rain today right now it's 66 amd sunshine, almost tempted to go in back shed and get fall totes..finished the Thanksgiving piece, where I will put it I don't know but it was a kit the other day and now it's a piece to put out.

They sure do Karen. My parents had a Doxie when I was growing up. Very sweet but stubborn girl. One day my mom and I moved the furniture in the living room. Queenie ran into the room and jumped as she always did but there was no chesterfield for her to land on. When she was in midair the expression on her face was priceless. When I was in university she knew what Fridays I was coming home. She would sit on the arm of the chesterfield starting around 3 pm watching.for me. The weekends I didn't come home she would not sit waiting.

Diesel is a bit better today but has a long way to go. I put some dog runners in his fav spots to give him traction to get up.He even ate some kibble and an aspirin hidden in some canned food.early this morning. He doesn't want to go out in the new enclosure. There is only 1 step for him to tread on. He wants to go out the front where there are 5 stairs. The good thing about those steps is I had the builder make them very gradual and wider than usual stairs.Sassy knows there is something wrong with Dies so she stays close to him. Twice during the night I found her with her paw on Diesel's.paw. I will try and get a pic of it. This is even better than the Christmas miracle where I found Sassy and Chaos laying on the chesterfield together.

Karen I just loved the photos of your grands on FB.

So Pat did you enjoy your days off ? Hope you got to have some time for yourself.

Debbie how are you feeling today ? Bet you are quite colourful with all your bruises.

Stay safe and well everyone.

I must remember to scroll back up before I post. I missed your post Betty. Ah Meaford I loved doing that show. Best tasting Honeycrisp apples I have ever tasted.

Sounds as though Diesel is on the mend, slow but sure.

Clouding over, big sigh, put spaghetti on for lunch, got about 1/2 the Halloween piece quilted and while I'm at work embroidery machine is embroidering a label for Sharon.

Looking for fall fabrics to make something for a friend I'll be seeing next week amd a, wondering why on earth every time you look for a certain kinds pattern you never find it in your stash?

Trying my best NOT to just lay on the chesterfield as I know that is where I'd end up for rest of day.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Thanks Dianne, It was fun having them here, a lot of them were missing but I will see all at Thanksgiving. The littlest girl is my son's girlfriend's grandbaby. They also had a baby boy just the same age as Lolli. Tragically he died a couple months ago. I feel bad for the mom but she had him in bed with her and woke up to him cold. Now she's pregnant again. Sad sad sad.

Lyndonville, NY

Feeling a bit better, just aches and pains. YES I would be yelling at you to go now and not wait. BUT....I don't have any of the symptoms you did.

Susan, cats really should not have milk. They are lactose intollerant. There are little boxes of kitty milk in the pet area...if you want to try that. BUT.....I would suggest putting them on a box of kitten chow. It is higher calories and might help with him being so thin. Usually same price as other foods. Turkey or chicken scraps....but no bones....are also good. I learned the hard way on this.....my Dex loved loved loved cheese. He would eat it...take 4 steps....and I would be cleaning it up! Or in the litterbox runs. Same with Huck...he gets upset tummy from milk big time. AND if he has worms...they love the milk and eat all the nourishment.

Betty I remember the scarecrows from last season when we went to Meaford. Loved it.

Storm moving in here....getting very very dark.

Thanks Deb. Been a good day....
Off to the city tomorrow to get a blood draw prior to doctor appt next Tues. I must admit it is great having Norm home. I would need to call for help for a ride otherwise.
I really shouldn't be driving anymore as my breathing gets sticky at times. Could be dangerous if I were behind the wheel.
