Spring chat 2016

Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)

The game is either 4 or 4:15 pm my time. I've got the TV all set up to tune in automatically. It certainly has been a strange basketball season this year. Middle Tennessee knocked out the #2 seed Michigan in the first round. Who'd a thunk it?

Debra, do you have a small Staghorn Fern? I also don't have my ZZ plant anymore. Susan (FruitOfTheVine) gave me the one I had and I've been looking for a replacement.

One of my cats keeps sitting on the computer key board and correcting all her typos is really slowing me down. :)

Otway, OH(Zone 6b)

Debra, did anyone ever tell you what a sweetheart and giving person that you are? I have net so many nice and generous people on this site. I just want to thank everyone that has helped me to get my gardens going again.

Carole, the game is 5:15 here. Was a shock to see Michigan State get knocked out. Also saw where Wichita State got beat. Hated that as I like that team.

The ladies luncheon was a success and was nice to be served by the men. We had boneless chicken breast, green beans, roll and salad plus dessert and tea/coffee. Really a nice time and they were raising money for the summer Bible camp.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Glad to hear you had a nice lunch. Was there nice eye candy? :)

I have personally spent time with Debra, and can say she is awesome.
If any of you get to San Antonio, let me know. I would love to meet you too.

Otway, OH(Zone 6b)

Linda, I really wasn't paying any attention to what they looked like. It would be nice to meet in person.

Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)

Well phooey, Kathy. The Cats are out and the Shockers are out. I don't know if I'll root for anyone now. I felt badly for Tyler Ulis. He looked so disappointed.

Otway, OH(Zone 6b)

I know especially if he goes to the draft. They just couldn't seem to pull it together. This is the soonest that Cal has ever lost. I will be watching Xavier now but they play WI so that will be another close game or at least should be.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I know Joe and my son Charlie are very disappointed in the Shockers. It was like a huge let down , but they did good all year long.

Otway, OH(Zone 6b)

I know that I am now ready for all warm days so that I can be outside after work and the days that I am off.

Everyone's gardens are looking good (indoors and out) i have Hyacinths and tulips blooming and plants are popping up all over.I will try to get some pictures tomorrow. I also have an Amaryllis that is a first time bloomer in the greenhouse. I got several small seedlings Summer before last in a trade, I was quite excited to see it finally bloom. See picture above.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Nanny, that is beautiful!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

gorgeous! My amaryllis is just putting out leaves, I am ready to get rid of it.
well, our daffs are about done here, tulips just getting started. Kat, your package goes out tomorrow, Carole, yours is next.

Mount Sterling, KY(Zone 6b)

Thanks you all. I also had red Freesias blooming in the greenhouse but didn't get a picture of them. I have tomato plants that are 4 " tall now, about 100 ready to be transplanted. Also various other seedlings, Cheddar pinks, Columbine, Carmine Gyp, Pale Yucca, Ligularia, Baptisia, ornamental cabbage and kale,a few DLs, and a bunch of others that I can't think of at this moment. What is it about us plant addicts? We don't have enough to do, so we continually make ourselves more work, lol?!?! I still work full time, help care for my 3 young grandchildren, 5 dogs, 1 17 yr. old cat, tend my gardens and greenhouse and occasionally do a little housework, lol. You will notice what is last on the list, as it is my LEAST favorite. Anyway, you all have a wonderful day. And WELCOME SPRING! I have missed you!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Nanny that is a lot of planting to do. 100 tomatoes? What will you do with all of them?

Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)

lol. Yes, more work. But the rewards are so worth it.

Beautiful Amaryllis, Annette. Housework is last on my list too.

Yesterday was so gorgeous. I snapped a couple of photos from the window. Pussy Willow, eastern Redbud, Forsythia, Scarlet Honeysuckle coming into bloom in the backyard.

You are just a little bit ahead of us, Beautiful trees! My redbuds are just beginning to bud out. The Bradford pears are almost in full bloom now. Spring has finally Sprung, YAY!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Is that a real crane in your yard Carole?

Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)

No, it's a statue. We do have Sandhill Cranes fly over during the migration and some do spend the winter here.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

love those colors... everything here is blooming like that.. I used to have a yard art crane, loved it, but it was painted metal and eventually fell apart. I am hoping to get cherries this year, we will see.

Nanny, your blooms are beautiful!

Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)

So lovely, Annette. Things are starting to burst into bloom all over the place here. The Magnolias are gorgeous. I don't have one in my yard but there are some beautiful ones around the neighborhood.

The Surprise Lily (Lycoris squamigera) foliage is up in the front yard. The blooms will come later - in July or early August. The Homestead Verbena foliage is showing. I still have some Hellebores in bloom. the foliage is up on all the Daylilies and the Coral Bells.

Love Spring!

Mount Sterling, KY(Zone 6b)

Thank you all! Spring is my favorite time of the year, except for the storms that come along with it. I also have things popping up all over. Every day I discover something new that is breaking through.

Otway, OH(Zone 6b)

Happy Easter everyone. Hope you all have a great day

Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)

Kat, did you have a nice Easter? Everybody else?

Thanks, Linda. I love that tree. Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying Springtime. It's overcast here right now. I have Wild Violets all over the place. I even have a pot of them on the deck. FruitOfTheVine (Susan) sent me those years ago in one of the swaps.

Our Easter was quiet and stress free, Joe cooked the whole dinner while I played down in the basement, as it had snowed a couple inches over night, so that chilled my desire to go outside. Love the red buds, I have the eastern red bud, am pleased to see a few tulips blooming here. I have tons and tons of wild violets, they are first to bloom in spring for me here. Except this year the nanking cherry was first. now my flowering almond is blooming, that came from my MIL's place in Buffalo, I sent myself a cutting of hers back home to me year before last and now it is a nice lil bush.

Otway, OH(Zone 6b)

Carole, yes had a good one after I got off work

Heck of a storm last night but was dark when I left for work so will have to see what needs done tonight

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

We had a very quiet Easter. The kids stayed in San Antonio, so I made baskets for the neighbor girls, and a friend of ours.

Mount Sterling, KY(Zone 6b)

Debra, I will post pics when I have new blooms to share.

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

Everyone's pictures are so pretty. I got this one at work today.

Hope all is well. :)

Amanda,Beautiful Columbine! Some of you may already know that Susie(Deejay9) has started a gardening group on Facebook called "Susie's Seed Attic" We are trying to get some seasoned gardeners to join to help with the newbies. It's free to join and you can sell or trade anything Garden related. And it's a good place just to hang out.
Come on over and check it out. We would love to have all of our DG friends join us!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Amanda, that is so pretty.

Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)

Very nice, Amanda.

Blooming at my house now ... Flax and Violets. Also still blooming are Forsythia, Crimson Honeysuckle, 'Forest Pansy' Redbud. 'Homestead' Verbena (from Fruity) and "Raydon's Favorite' Aster should be blooming soon.
