Best worse, what did I learn today, February 2016

Verona, ON

Managed to get 2 wheel barrow loads of wood into the house. There is another full barrow load at the door. It was frosty and freezing The pups enjoyed themselves until 2 of them started to hold up a paw.So inside they went.

Yuck on the shot in the eye for Gord.Did you get everything accomplished that you planned M?

Judy the quilt is lovely. How is your BIL that has cancer?

Happy Birthday, Judy!!

I got up this morning and almost immediately started feeling shaky & dizzy. I went back to bed and Bob held me until I could sleep (about 45 min), then I went to sleep for 2 hours. I think all the stress in my life was triggering my epilepsy, but with Bob's help I'm feeling better and didn't actually have a seizure. Bless him..........

Pacifica, CA

evening all.
m, yes were all settled in we have about 30 boxes still in the cargo container mostly crafting things and blankets ect so no hurry to get those yet.
the dog is nuts after his walk we have a super long hallway so we throw his ball down there so he can do some running.
his walks are always to nail every bush, tree and every square inch of grass it drives me nuts lol

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Liz .. those little boys have a limitless supply of pee LoL ..
Piper can hang on for12 hours, but, once he starts his 'watering trail' it can go on for a very long time .. quite frustrating!

A balmy -28F here .. with that bone chilling west wind ..
The fella came yesterday and took Lorna's Mule in for repair, not too sure what has happened .. but, it's leaking ?something/ and, it isn't oil as that level is right up ..
Praying for NO snow for a bit ..
Her own trailer is SNOWED IN .. if we really worked at it we MIGHT get it out .. but, none of us are hankerin to do that in this cold ..

Movie day .. I think ..
Gord is doing his 'Cronie day' stuff .. actually nice to see him going out.

Catch up with you later

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

27F and foggy - zero visibility in some areas of the city.
Not so bad here, so we're going out for pizza - friend gave us a gift cert, and it's time to pamper ourselves tonight. They won't deliver this far out, so it's a 12 min drive there. Go figure, eh? City expanded about 6 blocks further than where they deliver and we're the last street in the city lol

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

LK .. the Mule broke down on about Tuesday I guess .. luckily in front of the garage .
Got a call today saying that some piece of equipment on it couldn't take the extreme cold, and, it froze, and, in so doing stopped the machine ..
Cripes, what would have happened if we had been out on the back 40 tootin around !
So, they have given the machine a good going over, and, will deliver it back out here tomorrow ...
$50. one way !

Enjoy your pizza Susan .. I cooked one tonight ..

Gord and I had a 'discussion' the other day .. he is kind of a NEGATIVE person ..I told him he had to learn to live with the 'NEW HIM'.. he has a choice to be angry or positive ..I think he is trying to go with the latter ..

Overnight low tonight ..!!!&&&%%%$$$###@@@ -45 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Spare me ..

Nighty night ladies ..

boy, is Boston Pizza Ever Expensive!! a 10" pizza (8 pieces) for $17.50, and with 2 coffees (and tax), the cost was $24.15. The gift cert was for $25, so we were covered, but geeze - that was the cheapest thing on the menu. I couldn't believe some of the prices!
The deluxe doesn't have a lot of toppings - cheese, mushrooms, shaved ham, shaved pepperoni, and green pepper.
But - Hey - it was a treat, and we got to go out :-)

The fog was as thick as could be - could hardly see the street lights. The most obvious lights were those of other cars. Seeing curbs and medians wasn't easy. I'm just glad it was Bob driving, and not me!!

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Had had an email from Jann Arden, a video of her out walkng her dog .. she lives outside Calgary .. she mentioned she had to turn back as her dog refused to walk in the fog !! She has a small 'froo froo' dog named "Midi' ..
It was a GENERAL email to her fans .. I'm one of' em :-)

Weather Liars were correcto mundo .. it IS -40 here ... hydraulics have left the aluminum door, it just BANGS shut .. the dogs went out as a group and literally FLEW back into the house ..

Not sure what's happening today ... do know it's Chinese Food and birthday cake (Lilly/Zoey) DH picked the cake up yesterday, y'all know a pic will be posted LoL

Susan .. prices are atrocious in restaurants .. your lucky the $25. covered the bill !

Oh man, that is too cold for these old bones.

Most pizza places are expensive. We don't order them too much!

Happy birthday Lily and Zoey!

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

We have pizza on Fridays. I feel I deserve one day a week off cooking after 56 years.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

My feelings exactly Karen :-)
Feel even more spoiled what with having CHINESE Food tonight .. :-)
Making that roast on Sunday .. has become a real favourite, and, I was able to pick up a roast for UNDER $20.

The fella from Kawasaki is outside with Lorna right now, he brought the Mule back and he is putting the blade back on for her :-)
All boiled down to the extreme cold !!

Off I go

Fog's lifted and it's only partly cloudy now. It was so thick last night, it could have passed for a blizzard...!

Happy Valentine's Day everyone

-33 here, warming up to -31, get those shorts out! Was thinking of going to emerge yesterday and darn car wouldn't start..had roadside assistance come and by then I decided to put feet up, take meds and do nothing
Seems to have worked, feel a tad better this morning.
Started it twice during the night just in case. Likely have a block heater to plug in but doubt in this cold I'd have have had the strength to lift the hood so starting it a few times during the night seems to have worked

Furnace went, Greg sent someone to check it out Friday, need a new one..I have to manually reset every few hours and with the 3 fireplaces it's toasty..just have to baby it till Tuesday when a Greg will install one.

Wonderful that it's been a good news thread for all of you, about time!

Enjoy your day

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY from the Great White North, where we are BASKING in a temp of -18F ..

Yep Betty, plugging in weather .. do you have a remote starter for your car ?
Sorry to hear you aren't feeling well .. I do so hope you continue to improve ..
Total BUMMER about the furnace, you're the second person I have heard of with a furnace in need of replacement ..
Glad Greg can do it for you.

Got up at 6am to put the roast on, can just now smell it cooking.

Hope to get outside today ! It's before 8am here, and, it has been light for about 40 minutes :-)

Happy Valentines Day!!

Happy to see Betty dropping in, but I do hope you're feeling better soon. Is Sharon showing at Westminster again this year?

Looks like Zoey and Lilly had a nice birthday! Beautiful cake!

I took the pups to a match show yesterday, its like a dog show, but just for practice, and we need lots of practice. Was loading up the car to leave, opened the back of the van to put in my grooming table and they both flew out and ran across the fairground. Wouldn't come, of course, they were having fun. With the help of a couple of other people, eventually got them rounded up, I had to make a lunge at Bonnie's leash as she ran past, ended up face first in the snow, but I had her leash in my hand! We went back inside the building to the vet clinic they were holding along with the match show, and they both got microchips. At least now if they get away they can be identified.

Today needs to be a cleaning, laundry, grocery shopping day, since we were out having fun yesterday.

Happy Valentines Day to all. Enjoying the week-end with DGS & family up for a visit.
Bitter cold here too but at least no new snow through the night.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Deb .. you just voiced MY greatest fear ..
Despite dog training school for all 3 .. the ONLY one who listens to commands is wee Zoey .. she was obviously well trained by her former owner .
Lilly and Piper .. FUHGET it .. the more you chase, the more they run away !! Grrrrr
Piper is chipped, had it done when he was neutered .. but,Lilly is not .. I tend to think it hurts .. has to .. and Lilly don't cotton to anyone hurting her .LoL
Hope you didn't hurt yourself in the fall ..

I just brought them in, spent about a half hour running and chasing .. definitely be going out again too..

Karen .. enjoy your visitors:-)

Haven't heard from Murray in months .. he made plans twice with Gordon and never showed up .. his pile ..

Anyway .. TTYL

So glad to hear you got the pups back home safely. I have seen on the news several times where a dog from a show gets lose at an airport, gets scared and starts running.

Happy Valentine's Day, everyone!

Good to see you, Betty :-)

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

"THE ROAST" turned out just awesome ..
Gord was carving it, and, he had some helpers :-)

Dianne and Debbie .. guess who is scared stiff that she is going to get VERTIGO .. me !!
Every so often I get a little spurt of light headedness (dizzy), and, it's gone ! Fingers crossed it's a one time thing ..

A couple of pupper pics

oh no...... Marilynne - not vertigo! I get a spot of dizziness now and then, but surely you won't get vertigo, I hope :-
Please take care
Glad to hear "the roast" turned out well :-)

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

You all keep referring to how wonderful this roast is. I'm going to have to break down and pick up a beef roast to try your recipe!

We got a couple inches of snow yesterday, not enough to even shovel, it's supposed to be 55 degrees by Friday. So it will be back to mud. I will enjoy these few days while it stays frozen.

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

I just looked at the entries for the Westminster Kennel Club show in New York, and saw that there are two American Eskimo dogs owned by a Sharon that are entered. I'm guessing that is our Betty's sister Sharon. I'm hoping to sneak a peek at the Afghan Hound judging later this afternoon. New boss starting today, so we'll have to see, I don't want to start off on a wrong foot.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

It is probably her. Her dogs name is Inuk I believe. I don't know they other dogs name.

I just looked it up, I do believe #10 and 12 are hers.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

I can TRY to watch it, but, I doubt Ill find a channel ..

It's 18F here .. and, we had about 3" of light fluffy snow, which myself and 'my group' shovelled at 7am
Then I tried to lay back down .. not happening, no room on the bed for me ..

Sharon is Betty's sisters name .. and .. Inuk is her female, didn't know she showed another ..
I see they are judging AGILITY now .. great idea :-)

Kind of 2 saddish memory filled days here .. Gord's Mom died 21 years ago on Valentines Day, and, my Mom passed away on Feb. 15 19 years ago.
We carry on, and, remember the best :-)

It looks like Sharons dog won Best of Breed! Not bad for an eight year old dog! It looks like her second dog, who is not yet 2 years old was Select, which means she would get points toward a Grand Champion title, and the other dog that she was a breeder of was also Select got Gr Ch points, too.

I guess I can see this on the Animal Channel starting tonight.Wonderful news for Sharon.

After the Weather Liars forecasted snow Friday night and all day Sat. not a flake fell. Now as I look out the window it is actually snowing.Still in the -30's F this morning. The Thundering Herd are not interested in going for a walk. They will not venture out of the carport.

Felt my body was strong enough this morning so I started up the wood stove. I had 2 wheel barrows of blocks in the house from the other day and 1 wheel barrow load at the side door. Can't be wood heat.

Oh M holding you close to my heart. It is hard to pretend isn't it? Mine is Christmas - I just shut down.

Saw the ENT doc on Friday about my tinitus. He thinks my vertigo might be a form of migraine. Told me to just keep doing what I have been when I one hits. I was sort of hoping there was some sort of way to eliminate them completely.

Judy did you have a good time last night?

Dianne

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Yes, sad memories for you, ~M~ holding you close in my heart also
Dianne - hoping your "vertigo" is something simple and "just" a migraine (although that can be awful - see enough with migraines to know......)
Congratulations and hooray to see Betty's Sharon's 2 dogs doing so well. Inuk Always does well. How funny to see Sex as Dog lol can't they tell? lol
Judy - what was up last night - Did you go out? I must have missed something.

it's 37F here, and not quite noon - it's going to get warmer later in the day, of course.
I'd been taking hydromorph AND T1s with codeine. It had been playing havoc with my tummy I'm thinking (such rolling, groaning pains), so stopped taking the T1s - now I am having headache withdrawals...... I'll be glad when this is through my system

Victoria Harbour, ON

"M" let's hope all it takes is a few needles and Gord will have his eyesight A+

Susan, will you always have to use the walker? Can see bob doing wheelies lol

Dianne, was thinking of putting in a wood stove next winter..I too miss burning wood..major cleanup though. It's snowing and blowing, will tell it to stay here as my boys are anxious to get some real snowmobiling in..Greg is going to Newfoundland snowmobiling in a few weeks..Jeff was out yesterday walking the forest..he is planning an outdoor camping weekend, better he than I

Deb, do you have a favorite afghan hound you are cheering for..and how are your dogs progressing in training?

Lindakay, how many more sleeps?

Yes, Sharon's dog Inuk's broke Westminster previous record with a dog winning 8 consecutive years and she also had a dog she bred win a placing..you could hear her scream throughout the facility...

What de know is inuk's is very ill, she decided to let him compete today (vet said it would make a difference waiting a week or so) but surgery likely needed for as soon as he gets home..she as you well can imagine it is devastated. But for today she is riding high on inuk's, Graemme and her hard work..bet it's thrilling to see one of inuk's pups win..

Been working on a little St Patrick's shamrock throw today, trying to rid myself of scraps..not too far, spend several days laying down so feels nice trying to get something done, be productive

Hoping tonight as he did last year wins best of group as he likely will never compete again

Aren't I full of doom and gloom

Now you have me licking my lips, maybe I will put on a roast tomorrow..hoping that they instal furnace tomorrow so would be nice to have the slow cooker in.

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

That is quite an accomplishment for Sharon, and to see your dog's pups do well is always great. Lots of nice afghans competing, but no one special I'm cheering for. I do hope Inuk will be OK after his surgery. Most dogs are done competing long before his age, and some shows do have classes especially for veterans. It's always hard to retire a really nice dog, though.

Please post pics of your St. Patricks throw! Love seeing pics of your handiwork!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

So sorry to hear that Inuk is not doing well. Sending prayers.

8 more sleeps before surgery.
