Update from Internet Brands

Ottawa, KS(Zone 5b)

The print doesn't look much darker to me, but it was easy for me to read before.
I have to experiment with the Bold to see what it looks like.
This is a double application of Bold. Hmm. Double Bold doesn't work. Actually, I would have been a little surprised if it did.

Anyhow, things are fine for me, too. I actually like the Preview Post button (and the Update Preview button).

You could possibly satisfy the Preview haters by initially putting a Post Reply button alongside the Preview Post button.

Happy birthday Terry!

Washington, MO(Zone 6a)

Bold worked fine, in your post. (In all three instances - though I'm not sure what you expected a "double bold" to do)

I was hoping that double bold would be "super bold".

Algonquin, IL(Zone 5a)

I like the "Preview" button, but that's because I've always previewed to try to catch any typos or sentences that don't make any sense. But I can only speak for myself.

Happy Birthday Terry! Hope you enjoyed your day.

Washington, MO(Zone 6a)

I'm pretty sure you'd have to use css to set anything other than bold or normal. You can't do it with basic html coding.

Algonquin, IL(Zone 5a)

What about this? or do you prefer this?

Edited to say: That's really weird. When I previewed my post the first sentence was really large, but once I posted, it shrunk it back to normal size. :o(

Very few html tags are allowed here (thank gawd!). I also saw someone requesting graphical smiley abilities. I hope that is never implemented! They distract from the content of the message, and have no place here, IMO. Save that for IM and Facebook, please.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

I like my coffee extra bold, but the only html allowed in the forum posts are just the basics: bold, italics, underline & strike-thrus.

Algonquin, IL(Zone 5a)

Terry ~ Thanks for clarifying that!
I really didn't care to use them. It was mostly out of curiosity since I saw mention of it in a couple of posts.

I absolutely agree with you, Eggs_Zachtly, about them being distracting. I really like that DG doesn't have all the Facebook-type symbols, emojis, thumbs up/down, etc. (I don't even use Facebook). I hope you guys never add all that stuff.

Monroe, WI(Zone 4b)

I know I am in the minority, but I HATE the "thumb" thing. Smiley faces, etc. ok, but when I see someone has posted a thumb thing, it just feels to me that they didn't want to take the time to actually type out a reply on their feelings. Ok, you can lynch me now! LOL

Terry ~ I just posted a thread on the Bird ID forum and after it posted I noticed a backslash in the title that I didn't see in my preview. By coincidence I noticed the thread just below mine had the same thing. Here is a screenshot.

Is it possible they were both triggered by the apostrophes?

Yes. Not sure why your apostrophe (assuming you used the standard ' on your keyboard) triggered that, but that is what caused it. The issue of non-alpha/numeric characters triggering unusual site behavior is one that the techs will be looking at soon, but it's bigger than just apostrophes and backslashes :-(.

Algonquin, IL(Zone 5a)

Thanks!
But now this is getting weird. Did you, by any chance, remove the backslash on my post? Because I was just looking at forums and now my backslash is gone, but the thread below mine still has one.

I think I need a cup of coffee.

There was a recent forum update this afternoon.

Cleveland,GA/Atlanta, GA(Zone 7b)

Happy birthday, Terry!

I too am in the anti-added graphics camp regardless of the current moniker for those items. IMO, it's really odd to see multiple representations, by a post- adolescent demographic, rolling around hysterically on the floor or a green head with a grill. You don't have to support my every sentence with signage that says you agree. In fact, you're free to disagree with disagreeabe words without all of us having to suffer tired, dated caricatures. There's debate about the use or misuse of the word "ironic" but isn't it ironic that we tell our kids and grand kids, "Use your words." then resort to cartoons? Anyway, those images are about the way one feels not a reflection of the way one thinks.

A d Nuts, I had the same backslash disappearing thing happen a few days ago. Coffee always helps.

I did remove it. But have coffee anyway.

Happy Birthday Terry! ;-)

I noticed the appostrophe causes backslash elsewhere.

Anyplace you notice them, please post a link here.

Late with the birthday wishes for Terry - but enjoying the hot coffee on this chill morning in the Bluegrass.

AND: not noticing any site difficulties.

Algonquin, IL(Zone 5a)

Thanks Terry...I thought I was losing the few marbles I have left. :o)

Let's all have coffee.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

O.K. I am having my coffee too and hoping to go out and do some gardening work later in the day.

Ottawa, KS(Zone 5b)

Josephine,

I imagine that more than half of the country is envious that you can "do some gardening work later in the day" in the middle of Winter. Here in Kansas I have to content myself with some indoor gardening under fluorescent lights.

I used to live in Fort Worth (in a previous life) and I remember getting all the way to Christmas one year without a killing frost. My zinnias had succumbed to Powdery Mildew instead. What a growing season! But I don't miss those extended heat waves in the Summer when the daytime temperatures hit 100 and above. It hits a hundred here in Kansas, but only occasionally.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes, it is very nice to have a mild winter, we haven't had a killing frost yet, although it got down to 29 last night,
You are right, the summer can be a killer especially with the drought we had last year.
Hopefully this year we will get good rain, the watering schedule can be very demanding.

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

I'm south of Josephine and we've had many freezes, a few I didn't expect. But I do live very rural, at the base of the Hill Country. Need a few more freezes to kill the bugs!

Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

I'm in zone 5a and we are having such a weird winter that my parsley and feverfew never stopped growing and my geranium 'Bevan's Variety' is still green. My fragaria are still green. Everyone to the north, west and south of us got creamed with awful weather but we are in this weird sweet spot by the Fox River that gets plenty of rain but not overwhelming snow.

My polyantha rose 'Marie Pavie' was still green in January. Freaky.

I have lived by the Lakefront in Chicago and have lived in the aptly named Lake County. Both have more wind, more snow and more severe weather than we do.

But one good thing about being up here is that all the bugs die every winter and in spring have to start over, so they never build up to really awful levels. But I am still finding live lady bugs in the house (they love my bathroom) and I carry them downstairs and put them on the leaves of my tropicals, which I keep on my south facing living room on a magnificent solid wood table that someone in a huge house discarded. It was so heavy I had trouble getting it into my car!

In the meantime, I have started lots of seeds.

Wow, talk about off topic!

Jackson, MO(Zone 6b)

nutsaboutnature or anyone else
I waited to use your directions regarding searching past posts on this website
I recall about two years ago someone I think on the Trees and Shrubs forum posted many trees and maybe shrubs that were good for bird habitat.
It was a great post, but at the time, I didn't have a need for more trees. Now, I'd like to add a few trees to my yard. I tried both search methods. I put trees for birds. Directions #1 brought up something about an Oriole in bird watching. The latter came up with "0". I also tried the "Advanced Search" which is really useless for what I was searching.

Bottom line is, the search feature is still gone, and I guess never to be resurrected.

I thank you for trying to help me.

Jackson, MO(Zone 6b)

I posted on the Rose Forum a couple of days ago. It shows as an Updated thread and yet, no one has posted anything in the last couple of days. I keep going to the post thinking someone has responded. I just don't get it. I don't particularly want to quit watching the post, but I don't want to keep going to the post if no one has posted anything new.
I don't know if I am doing something wrong or if the website has changed again.

Algonquin, IL(Zone 5a)

Hi birder ~
Don't know if these were the threads you were looking for, but they're very good. Check them out and let me know what you think.

Anyone one else looking for trees for birds - the first thread was so popular it got too long so they started the second thread (Part 2).

Enjoy!

Birder ~ Please don't forget about using community Tags (explained in one of my previous posts). It's another way to find old threads and can sometimes yield more exact results than just searching threads.

The above two threads were located using the "Ctrl F" text box. The tags are shown in these screen shots.

I would also like to see the home button at the bottom of each thread we watch, so we don't have to click on back to top, then home.

Lake Stevens, WA(Zone 8a)

I agree with taters.

Monroe, WI(Zone 4b)

I also agree with Linda!!! Please!!!!!!

Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

If it's possible, that would be WAYYYYY cool!

Baytown, TX(Zone 9a)

I agree with the ladies above also. I would like to see the Home button on the bottom of the page and at the top of each page would be nice too.

Thanks!

Baytown, TX(Zone 9a)

Thanks for putting the post reply back at the bottom of this page!

Thank you!!!! Thank you!!!!! Thank you!!!

Monroe, WI(Zone 4b)

I agree.
