Good luck with the digging and foundation fixing Debra, I'm sad to see you in that kind of predicament (like Ju last year) but hope all goes well and the results are fabulous!
Gypsi, hmm...I need to do more gardening and carpentry but landscaping is a really physical work-out!
Plant Propagation: The Basics January 2016
Yes Robin it is ,, and as age time sees the physical go- ing Fizz lol it seems even more so ,, or sore so ,,
I am goofing around instead of doing anything ,, it happens frequently ,,
Want to plant a few more ,, will shortly ,,,
30's and 40's as temps are much better "out there "" than 0's to teens ,, Maybe, maybe not for winter sowing , but I will prefer them anyway ,,
It's still looking a lot like Christmas, everywhere I go!
Lol Ju, "even more sore" these days too.
Robin with hopes for ) with sugar canes and Silver blooms a glow ,
Not a prettier sight to see , than the Holly next to your own front door
My Version) Spring will be a lot like Christmas ,, with the green all aglow ,, no more snow to shovel from your own front door , ???LOL
Singing on ,, The kittens warm and out of doors , not to be in the bed sheets with me no more ,, ode to music ,,
Planted some Borage seeds today ,, oh goodie it's above 20 degrees ,!!!

I've got some Dwarf Holly it would be a treat to see them in full berry mode, maybe next year. I like to buy them small and watch them grow...that's what I do for fun.
There's another feline stray coming to my house tonight...here's hoping all goes well and perhaps I'll resume singing tomorrow sometime. In the meantime, I'm a tad anxious.
Awe so cute, I sure do like the white with the tabby markings. That's just from a visual point of view, their personalities can win you over in a millisecond.
does it have to be 20 to plant borage or can it be warmer? That's a seed I've wasted a couple of packages of with no sprouts

Robin, I only do ponds for a living elsewhere. Landscaping IS a physical workout so I just do it at home. On Sunday I planted grass. In a droughty dry part of my yard that the dogs had dug up and the rains had re-arranged so I had to soften and level it first. That is hard, and I would not do it in anyone else's yard, couldn't pay me enough. then after I chopped up the ground I sprinkled buffalo grass seed and covered with chopped oak leaves. The kitchen drain line will hopefully keep moist enough for fertilization. Funny how a 50% chance of rain turns into 5 drops and bye bye
Ponds are easy by comparison. I hire help too
You got more drops than I saw in San Antone! Everything just burned on off. I didnt know it needed cold strat for borage, does take cool weather or shade in Tx
Borage does need Stratified , if the seed is fresh , Best planted in the middle of winter , What surprises most people is how large it gets ,, it is a Huge plant .especially when Happy ,,
I think Calico will be leaving here ,, found a Home ?
I was expecting the installation of a pond is digging and laying flagstone gravel and large rocks. It doesn't sound easy (not in my vision anyway). I hope your grass grows well for you.
Gypsi , It all still sounds like a lot of work ,, and more still ,,
Kitt are those adorable puppies yours?
Gyp, you are so right. Wish I could have done that. But, when you have some medical issues, maybe born with, you are best off to get a job where you will be covered medically for life. I did all that stuff at the end of my regular work days, kept at repairing the vehicles, the appliances, sprinkler system, sided the house, things like that that I truly loved doing. Could only do them for just so long. But you are right. Much healthier.
I was about your age when I finally said I just can't do it any more. I had already had some joints replaced and even then had been doing some of that fun stuff. Oh well, enough. But, you keep at it as long a you can. It is really good for you, and fortunately you are in country where the weather lets you work outside so much. Keep chuggin' along and please remember how lucky you are for the basic healthy body that you are able to do that. jen
Gypsi, that was a catch up from your post on the last thread. Sorry for the confusion. Being off yesterday I missed all of the posts on here. The pictures of the kitts are so cute JU.. Is it for sure that Calico got a new home? You are going to miss her. Which ones besides Mingles were males? Don't remember.
Kitt, is the red leafed plant mustard? I recognize the Rosemary, but not the mustard. Pretty leaf. They look like a tough plant tho.
Well, have a lot to do, making appointments for medical tests etc. so best get to it. ttyl,
That's the one I like!
Oh, that's good for a few extra pets!
JU, can't believe you just got that thing. I got it in a garden mag in the mail. Immediately thought of you do yours last fall. Thought it might be an interesting article for you. Sent one to my daughter too and she is going to try making one when the weather warms enough.
Your pictures are great. That guy is a real show off huh? So cute. Looks like a great model for commercials. Can you train him to act on command? That would be a real job for you. jen
No no, not my pups. Will be keeping them as well as possible. Eyes arent open yet, the white shows the blue heeler freckles. Seems everyone wants the husky looks, but I doubt she left them her fur genes.
I pIcked up some plants today- we love herbs most around here. So added Lemon thyme, silVer lemon thyme, and a peach colored coleus, a scented dark red double dianthus, and a dark red citronelle. They arent set in yet, pics tomoro. Did set up a bed for zinnia and rocket larkspur- i trust the zinnia to grow, i hope for the larkspur. Dr early, brain mri. (Getting the stats behind the belief I might not have the mental acuity to drive.) Tomorrow!
Jen It looks to be near what I am doing sometimes , I have to go get a few things to continue my growing , I am also looking at catalogs , still coming ,,
I Have tons to grow , Maybe some better food this season ,
Kit Like Brain surgery , than a drive in the Downtown , lol Nice and relaxing ,, all that hectic madness you would be lonesome without ,,
I still Have a Basil growing in the Kitchen ,, about it ,,
Earth Wobble ,,, side yard in summer ,, lol
Nice pics ,,
Pretty Dianthus ,,
I am grateful for my health. Dislocated my left knee in 2004, I am allergic to anti inflammatories so I called my friend the physical therapist and got some exercises from her, wore a brace for 6 or 7 months at least, and intermittently after when I needed it. I have some arthritis there now, still allergic to the pills, turmeric finally helped it. I also take glucosamine chondroitin and msm which help, but the main thing I have to do is stay moving, and hire help for the lifting It works for me better since I divorced and am "allowed" to hire help. When I was married I had to fix both cars, now I have 3 shops, one for foreign, one for dumb stuff chevy and one for smart stuff chevy, and a son in law. I love being single. (took 12 years or so to really get there though)
So how do I stratify borage seed?
Yes, the Dianthus is beautiful. Nice you can start seeds and new plants direct into the ground this time of year.
Kitt, does that mean you are keeping all 7 pups? Are you going to Spay/neuter all of them? I hope you have really deep pockets, or are going to marry a millionaire.
Gypsi girl, you are so funny. Took 12 years to be single. Funny.
Is stratifying Borage different than other plants? I imagine down there you will need to put them in the refrigerator for a length of time. Does the pkg say how long? Just google how long does it take to stratify Borage in the refrigerator?. You should get a good answer there. You can try the Plantfiles here. Don't know if you will get an answer or not. Jen
Gypsi ,, Make it cold and wet enough I had one self sow one year , I do not know if mine are in time this year ,, Long while to grow
At the Garden Manipulating Basils to grow perennial here I am into ,, , I maybe have one ,,Going for seeds and cross pollinating and such to try more ..
Tea plants ,, some taste terrible .but their good with other add ins
Gypsi, I would stick them in a baggie of moist perlite and put it in the fridge for 2 weeks and then sow in place to germinate. Here's an article I found for you;
http://herbgardening.com/growingborage.htm
I'm looking forward to some perennial Basil Ju, keep up the great work.
Robin the one I have is a Sprig , Did not make seeds this time ,, I believe it happened from seeds I collected from a Hybrid that did not return ,
Not looking great , only maybe ,,
Years previous , I spaced the spaced the seeds or traded them away ,?
About 4 yrs it has been there ,, I am hoping on
I've got my fingers and toes crossed for ya Ju. What a breakthrough that would be.
well dry refrigeration didn't work last spring. going for perlite after work tomorrow
You can also use a damp paper towel or vermiculite in a baggie but perlite is my medium of choice.
