Best/Wirse/What did I Learn today? & Santa Warren Exchange
Goin bunkies ..
GREAT news Susan ..
Hope the storms pass by us Betty ..
~M~
yes, and I can hardly wait.......!
We have to give the statement and invoice from the City's property manager to the Hearing Officer, and to our tenants, at least 24 hours before the Hearing, so will fax to the Officer, and put copies on our tenant's gate.
That is good news Susan.
"M", my hip pain level stays about the same, but at night when I get tired I have to take a pain pill to get to sleep. I usually wake up about 2 or so, and take another pill.
Dianne, surgery will be in San Antonio, I will be there about 3 days. Then back home. Home health will come here for two weeks of therapy, then I can go to town for the remainder of therapy.
I would send it registered mail, so you have a signature they received it. Otherwise they can say they never got it.
LK - we'll all be with you, in San Antonio, holding your hand...... all 3 days.
Glad to hear you have 2 weeks of home health care. Obviously they expect you'll be able to make the long drive to go for therapy afterwards. I've heard that knee & hip surgery heals pretty quickly :-)
No, we'll get a witness that we put it on their door, the same way we did for the initial serving.
Susan, you might want to take a photo of the notice posted on their gate Susan just to prove your point.
We have a form that we fill out, showing when we post the paperwork - the Officer doesn't require anything more than our word that we served the documents - they will sign as a Commissioner of Oaths that what we say if factual, and we sign it. They do not require a picture, nor do they need to sign receipt. If they refuse to take the documents, we can just drop them at their feet, serve them in a coffee shop or on the street. As long as we swear in front of a Commissioner that the documents have been served, they take it as factual.
I'm done with the apple orchard forever!!!....... Kinda weird?. It will be a great loss if the new owners don't continue the cider business, not many of them around anymore.
M so good to hear Gord is still pain free.
Be safe driving everyone
LK sending hugs to you and will be sending healing energy to you.
Canning fig jam tomorrow and a cranberry Christmas jam also. Lots to do before trip to NC.
Off to bed I go I go
yum, cranberry Christmas jam!! Never tasted figs, so can't say what the jam would be like, but I'd sure like to try it! I'll look and see if I can see any in the stores......
I have a fig tree that has three different crops. Two years ago we made Drunken Fig Preserves. Made with brandy. It was delicious. My daughter made fig jam this year and way to sweet. I give away about 90% of the figs. I have two family friends, one from Persia (now Iran) and one from Lebanon. They both love figs. And the husband of thr Lebanon family comes every year and trims the tree. And when he comes to pick figs, he also picks off the figs the birds have gotten and the ones on the ground. I planted the tree because I loved the leaves. I do not like figs.
Marilyn, if Gord was Vern, he would be on his knees screaming in pain like he was giving birth to an elephant. Vern has never been tolerant to any pain. And Vern was a thinking Engineer. He was not the type to put anything away but that was OK because he never brought anything out that needed to be out away. That is why I know how to do so many things. Just something I ignored for many years. I got used to doing everything and now that is a good thing.
Our weather today was 65 and beautiful. Two days our temperatures are going to drop 15 degrees with freezing temperatures at night. Mid 30s. All my zone pushing plants are in the garage except my bougainvilleas. I will have the landscapers move them Monday.
Dogs got groomed today. That is the good news. Bad news was their appointment was not until next Friday. OM goodness, I keep doing these crazy things more and more each day. How many screw ups do we get a day before they lock us up?
My garden helper an his helper got my Christmas items down and unpacked and the Christmas lights outside He texted me today and he is in the hospital. Maybe a heart attack.
This guy is a great gardener and also a really good handyman and has a helper that just follows him around and does what ever he asks him to do and they both speak English. He is about 61.
My new mattresses got delivered and I can guarantee my current sheets will not fit these new twin beds. They are very high. I might go upstairs and sleep on one myself.
When we had the house built I designed the house with the master bedroom downstairs.
Susan, wishing you a great day in court.
Karen, so gad you are feeling better and had such a great visit.
Betty, tomorrow I am cooking a whole chicken to make a medium pot of soup. I am going to try and make home made noodles. Anyone have an easy recipe for home made egg noodles.
Tomorrow my granddaughter is the guest of honor for a bridal shower. She flew in this evening for a final fitting on her wedding dress. The bridal shower is a breakfast bridal shower. Yes, I have never heard of one either, But I am going and have told Vern to just stay in bed and sleep in and I will get him up when I get home at noon. He is one happy camper.
It is time for bed. You all have a wonderful morning tomorrow. I will check in and give you a blow by blow on a breakfast bridal shower. Hugs, Sharon
Sharon I am the same way re handling things as they come up. Warren was just not into fixing things. And I was not into paying a repairman for a job that I could do.Think you have so much on your mind Sharon and so much to do each day it is no wonder you mixed up the date for grooming. During Warren's battle with cancer I had to keep a list for what needed to be done the next day or I would forget something.
Diesel has been out communing with whatever is out there in the universe. Chaos and Duke were on the deck responding to Diesel in kind.I had them out as I can't sleep tonight and didn't want to put in an extra walk.
Betty and M .... snow yet? As I drove out the lane today I noticed there were some areas that need more recycled asphalt on it before the snow flies. If it isn't done it makes for huge ruts once it gets cold and you are basically on a bobsled run.The areas are on the lane most traveled. Way down where I am there is so little traffic things are fine.
M hope the pain free zone stays with Gord. Heaven knows he has been in such pain the last while !! You telling us about some things not being put away made me rewalk the garden areas. No longer can blame Warren and sure enough I found 2 rakes I had missed.
Love figs......
Make sure you all do something to pamper yourself this weekend.
Dianne
Morning all
First thing I did was look out the window, no snow on the ground as yet but says it's coming..please let it be after 2pm. Our project won't take long to do, then some gabbing..
Lindakay, saying you sent it up from Texas, say it isn't so..Huntsville is getting battered..
With tornado in Georgia, bush fires in Australia I'll take what we get.
Roger could do absolutely everything but he was on the road Monday to Friday with one evening home so I got to learn how to take care of many things, find it helpful now as I will undertake most things, all except hydro, that is a big no..must call Greg bought an enclosed light for basement entrance seeing the girls come at night and need lighting.
Figs, my grandmother always made fig pie at Christmas, haven't had it for at least 40 years, wouldn't even know where to start..might look it up, always room for one more kind of pie right?lol
Dianne you are lucky that you can enclose them on the deck, they probably think they are free..imagine a lot of critters roaming the woods trying to settle in before snowfall..now is this road you have to have repaired or municipal?
Susan, bet you are counting the sleeps until court day.
Sharon enjoy the Bridal Breakfast, haven't heard of that either, but I'm sure you will enjoy. Hoping your helper hasn't had a heart attack and will be back shortly to help you. Would his helper be able to continue on his own?
Just think, soon be in December..another year soon over
Best finish my coffee, do my hair then go cut snowman scarves
Up and sort of at'em
Dogs went bee bopping out the back door, and, immediately ran to the end of the fence barking away .. ?something? was up in the garden .. trying to stop dogs from barking is an exasperating deal .. but .. TREATS work LoL
Sharon .. I just betcha the breakfast shower will be wonderful ! Enjoy!!
As for figs .. I kinda like them, not a whole hecuva lot, but they are high in fibre ..
Hope your gardener is OK!
Sue .. happy days with your preserving .. hope all turns out well .. and, congrats on finishing at the orchard ..
Dianne .. I did a good walk about after I chased the water barrel .. 3 wrenches, 2 rakes, 1 hose .. Lorna thought she had found everything .. I think Jack Frost brushed stuff off the things left behind LoL
Gord ATTEMPTS fix ups .. but has no patience ..
Someone, Deb or Jean maybe? wer asking me about the water barrels
YOUTUBE LoL .. when we got them from Gord's friend, we were stymied .. they aren't the typical 'blue ones' .. they're kind of a rust colour, and have hosing and spigots .. we never did get them hooked into the whatchamadoodles .. guess this spring .. but .. you tube had several videos about doing it ..
NO snow overnight, but, only 14F here ..
Likely doing a town run, have to see if Gord is doing OK
I took the bulky dressing off yesterday .. WOW, what a clean and neat incision !! Only 7 stitches, dissolvable .. I put a transparent dressing on, and, he has still had NO PANI !!
Keeping up with the meds though ..
Susan .. I would take a picture anyway .. you just never know ...
LK .. hang tough .. does sitting bother you? It didn't me, but, it was the GETTING UP !!!
OWIE ..
OK .. have a good one every body
TOODLES
~M~
Betty it is our private lane that needs some care. There is 1 small hill but it is steep and has a bend in it - if you are going to get stuck on the lane that's 1 of the spots you dread. Even with the recycled asphalt it washes away with heavy rains. Using the recycled asphalt has been such a blessing for the lane. Initially we were skeptical to use it but one we were assured there would be no danger of runoff to the well we signed on.
I second or third that M that Susan and Bob should take a picture anyway. They have been stung too many times by these tenants and I wouldn't even leave a glimmer of a chance they could turn this back on S and B.
Need to go into the village to pick up my Rxs and hope the local farmers market is open. It is outside on the school's parking lot.
Got my email back, now I have my FB, online banking and Johnson's account up and running. Next I need to tackle the laser printer. Hate not having a Guide book.
Hope you have a great time today Betty.
I escaped a bullet or rather a new Rott pup ......lol I went on Kijiji last night looking for a copy of the 1968 yearbook from Woodstock Collegiate Institute. Friend with Stage 4 cancer wants to get 1 to look thru. Anyway I just HAD to go look at puppy ads and lo and behold there was a litter of German Rottis in Ottawa. I think I am thankful the litter was all spoken for. Have the space and the love but do not have room for another large crate. Chaos so loves his crate that I leave it open so he can go in whenever he wants. When Duke gets in trouble he puts himself in his crate before I can even send him.
Cold and gray outside could rain. Haven't slept yet so will take the pups for another walk and then maybe try a nap.
Enjoy your day everyone.
Dianne
I was the one who asked about the rain barrels, M. I'll have to check out youtube when mine arrive.
Snow here overnight, still snowing now. They are saying we've had 5" so far, but with the ground so warm, there is maybe an inch or so on the driveway, streets are just wet, more on the grass, except for where the pups have trompled it into a wet muddy mushy mess. Pups love it, they are sopping wet and it took pieces of hot dog to get them to come inside. I think they'd stay out all day if they could.
Pups are 1 year old today! Can't believe they're that old already.
Deb
Sharon I can give you my grandmother's noodle recipe. Hers were awesome and fought over at every holiday. Recipe itself is easy ,basically flour, egg, water. but there is a lot of hoo hoo to them. I made them a couple times after she passed and totally floured my kitchen.
What we do now is buy Reames frozen noodles. No difference in taste. I buy a few turkey wings and cook them to fall apart and then use that broth to cook the noodles. Still the same fights over who gets the last of them.
If you still want the recipe, let me know.
"M", I agree, getting into a sitting position is tough, but once I get there, I can get comfy. But when I get up, oh lord, that can be difficult. And if I have to get to the bathroom quickly, well sometimes just have to shuffle a little faster.
Good Morning!
OH my gosh, I was flipping mad last night...
Being home all by myself made a huge long post and went to send and poof gone!
Went in to get Pegasus going for the day and there was Jake! No car. Apparently he had an accident, totaled his truck. Talked to Steve this morning...No one was hurt, thank God.
Jake called Richard to go and get them, Geesh they were almost home, about 1/2 hour away.
So I'll wait till he awakes to hear what happened. Yes, he is fully insured, again thank God.
Well I'm going to try and rewrite my post today.
But, I will show you how nice and clean my great room is, trying very to keep it that way
Just had the carpet cleaned...And look what else I've been playing with
Yikes...woke up to snow and still coming down. only a couple inches, melting on the roads, which is good 'cause I got to run to Joannnes!
be back in a bit.
Oh no. Sorry to hear about his accident. Glad no one is hurt.looks like you have your toys out playing. Love your great room.
We got our Cadillac back yesterday. Sure is nice to have it back. Repair service did an excellent job fixing it.
Great job Judy. Your room looks so inviting. And just what is that toy?????
I bet you are so very glad to have the car back Linda. It really seems to take forever to get them fixed when they are broken....
Went shopping today to make sure I had all I needed for Betty's craft day which is tomorrow. Found a couple of things for my Warren Santa gift. Hope to have that mailed out Monday/Tuesday. Norm is such a sweetheart. He pushes me all over in the wheelchair when we go shopping as my legs just won't let me walk a lot anymore. I pile stuff on my lap and after a while you can't see me anymore. But we have fun!!!!!
Looking for a pattern to make a new quilt for my bed. I had one made which after it was done just didn't fit the room. So I put it away and now that the colder weather is coming I need a new one. I ended up donating the first one to Brandon's old high school equestrian team to raffle off. Hope it brings in a few bucks!!!
Afternoon everyone, is it bedtime yet..back is killing me, haven't sat since 8:30am so tying to decide if I want to run next door and get cheeseburger and fries as a treat..think I might then hot bath..might sit as cut up scraps..sent everyone home with a set of oven mitts and mug rugs..save me one step, baking banana bread for the glass containers, let them do that. Lol
Fun had by all
Was nice seeing my brother mike for a bit, he dropped off Kim and his daughter Michelle for the craft then went into Midlandu and did all the stores then came to pick him up,but, did visit him for a tad. Everyone was thrilled with their projects and enjoyed the socializing, surprisingly Linda's 15 year old granddaughter loved it.
Linda did some sewing, Betty, Melanie's mom did the snowlady block then I showed her the 1piece oven mitts while some were doing the bird feeders
Now it's clean up time
Be back in a bit to re-read posts and comment ..loved the photo's
Omg, from the time I started this post I put a call in, cheeseburger and fries was almost out of my mouth when I said chicken strip and fries please so off to pick them up..just next door, won't take but a sec
So glad no one was hurt in the accident.....
Barb - time for you to go to quilterscache.com to pick out a new pattern for a quilt!!
here's my DUH for the day - I see people here talking about QOV and had no idea what that meant and didn't ask....... I found there's a QOV site in Canada, too http://www.quiltsofvalour.ca/
What a great idea, but it looks like they want professional quilters and you have to "register" your quilt?!?! it sounds a bit intimidating......
Judy I am so glad Jake wasn't hurt .......cars can be fixed sometimes people can not. Warren said that to me after I was in an accident that totaled my pristine Buick Royale.
Susan I had to look up QOV too. We have a Vietnam Vets Motorcycle group in this area. Great bunch of guys who do a lot for the community.
Barb you and Norm shopping are the couple I always smile and stop to speak to them. One time I was wheeling Warren from the CC over to the hospital for an xray. All of a sudden Warren said quick, stop and give me a kiss. A resident passing by us asked what they were giving out as meds over in the CC cause he wanted some.
Oh Betty you made me hungry. I think I might make some scalloped potatoes for dinner. I bought some thick sliced ham from the meat counter not the deli. There is no point in me cooking a ham as I would be eating it forever and then not want it again for quite awhile. I'll freeze 3 of the slices and have 1 for dinner.
Picked up my meds and the Rx tech was laughing. I have to get Duke's Elavil (Amitrip) refilled this week. The vet can no longer dispense that drug. I don't mind getting his drugs there as it is quite a bit cheaper than at the vet's. I was asking her if she wanted to fax the Rx to the vet or should I call them. She was like I don't know I have never had a dog as a client. Good laugh for a dull, gray day.
Never heard of those noodles Karen. Are they frozen , in the deli ?? My first MIL who was a sweetheart used to make her own noodles. They were outstanding. She was Italian and used to make the most wonderful meals.
Think I will watch a DVD.. I have a few here I haven't watched yet. They come in handy on a cold, snowy winter day.
BBL
Dianne
I hope to be able to quilt again soon.......when I get my sewing machine and table set up - next week????
The noodles are in the grocery freezer, at ours they are usually close to bread & rolls.
Sorry Susan I should have said Quilt of Valor at least once. In our group we make the block and send them to our coordinator. she or others puts the tops together, still others do the quilting. Our group has over 400 members. Our only requirements for the block are 12 1/2" x 12 1/2 ", flag colors and star patterns as we are QOV-Stars. There is no limit of expertise required. I taught my granddaughter just a couple weeks ago and she is sewing away.
I think these are my final two tree skirts if I counted correctly.
Ohmigosh Judy ... huge hugs .. what a fright ! So good to hear Jake is OK ..
As always, the pics are wonderful .. was just about to go back up and click on one, but, BIG NO NO here on Dave's .. do that, and your post is toast !
Went in and did my Santa Warren shopping today .. Lorna and I had a ball !!!
When we got into the store, a lady in a BRAND spankin new electric scooter was just learning how to navigate .. her hubby was laughing so hard, as was she, and, every time we met up in the Mall she would wave and let us know how she was doing ..
Hopefully I will have my package in the mail on Monday .. a little Elf helper mentioned something else I might want to add, so, as I will be in the city again tomorrow, I shall do so :-)
And, then it goes SOUTH LoL .. like LKays goes NORTH .. seems all of you are SOUTH of me ..
Barb, whatever you chose will be lovely .. maybe dusty pink roses :-)
Dianne .. I made a casserole awhile back .. had hamburger, sliced potatoes cream of MRoom soup and cheese in it .. Gord is not a fan of scalloped potatoes .. but, he really enjoyed it ..
Bon appetit !
LK .. you'll enjoy being back in your own vehicle ..
I hear ya re the 'bathroom shuffle' .. Poise became my friend !!!
Laundry on the go .. supper was done at 2;30 WE'RE STILL STICKING TO THAT SCHEDULE .. oops ... caps ?
Best get a move on
BBL
~M~
Ate, bathed, took meds, covered myself in a knitted afghan , comfy as can be
Barb, Judy's toy is a scroll saw, the one thing I'm sure she uses a lot with her being so creative..give that Norm a hug for helping you be ready for tomorrow's 9am class, guess for you it will be 10am right? Was explaining to the gals today how we do it on-line, next best think to us all sitting in my craft room.
Lindakay, love the wreath, bet it takes mega fabric but guess one could use up leftovers?
Great insert for the snowflake block swap, what pizzazz it will have.
Judy thanks goodness Jake is ok..was weather conditions the cause? You have been busy
Eyes are heavy, back in a bit
hey Karen - I was able to research QOV - it sounds like you ladies are having a lot of fun with it, so I thought I'd check it out. I'll have to wait until I can sew again, and contact the organizers of the Canadian QOV site
Susan, Thunder introduced me to this at just the right time. I was sick and getting sicker but my Dr. kept telling me I was depressed and wanted me to take still more drugs. QOV has kept me going. I really thought I was near the end when Hubby took me to ER. I now feel very good, it's amazing what some blood will do. At least now I know I was right and things were going south physically not mentally. There is a name and a treatment.
Now that I have my tree skirts done, I'll be able to really make a lot of blocks and maybe some whole quilts as well.
The snowman was supposed to be a door hanging, but I cut it from the fabric it came on, and stitched it my background, then did the applique stitch all around all the pieces.
That wreath took about 70 6 inch squares, folded into triangles twice, then gathered on the bottom. Then I hot glued them to a 12 inch Styrofoam wreath, added the string of gold beads and the cardinal.
Fresh Baileys Irish cream is done.
Baileys Irish cream fudge
BAILEY'S IRISH CREAM FUDGE
24 oz milk chocolate chips ( 2 - 12 oz.pkgs.)
12 oz semi sweet chocolate chips
14 oz marshmallow cream
2 tsp vanilla extract
2/3 c bailey's Irish cream
4-1/2 c granulated sugar
12 oz sweetened condensed milk
1/2 lb butter or margarine
Directions Step-By-Step
1 In a very large bowl, combine the milk chocolate chips, semi-sweet chips, marshmallow cream, vanilla, and Bailey's Irish Cream. Set aside.
2 Line a 10 x 15" baking pan with foil. Lightly spray with cooking spray.
3 In a medium saucepan, combine granulated sugar, condensed milk, and butter. Bring to a gentle boil over medium heat. Cook slowly and stir constantly for 10 minutes.
4 Pour the hot mixture into the bowl with the chips. Stir slowly by hand to combine. It is important to do this step by hand NOT with a mixer. Stir for approx. 2-3 minutes.
5 Pour fudge into greased pan and chill to set.
Karen, we cross posted..just love the star tree skirt., the reindeer one is adorable, can't remember, did I not send noses for snowmen and scarves, hats? If not did you want some?
You sound stronger Karen, wonderful for you and family.
Lindakay the quilt will be spectacular..don't those yummies look good, hope you will pass them around at our on-line workshop in the morning..Drats just remembered a made coffee (12) and nobody drinks any, must empty it so I can make some fresh cups for you all
Marshmallow cream, is that the one in the jar
.
Susan, yep you will be quilting up a storm
I would love the pieces for the snowmen if you're not too busy.
I will get them in the mail Monday
Oh LK... YUM. I think I will try and make some. I might try some dark chocolate chips in it.
My 3 little devils have had their dinner, been out and are now zonked out on the bed. I have a recliner in the BR and I sit here to read and watch TV so of course the pups have to be close to me. When I have the wood stove on it is just too hot to sit in the front room.
Didn't get scalloped potatoes done.. I'm just not hungry. I'll have some toast later.
Shower time and I will definitely be in bed early tonight. No nap so I am really weary.
Dianne
Yes, it is in a jar. You can use a bag of marshmallows, but they are a pain to melt down.
So glad to hear Jake is okay. We had a fellow here hit one about two weeks ago. His car was totaled and he ended up in the hospital. Scary event.
I think I might try that fudge Linda Kay. It woulds easy and delicious. And if I was a good Mom I would share it on Thanksgiving but I haven't been really good lately. So I'll hide it since Norm is diabetic!!!!
Do you have any contact paper LK? That would work like the Mac-Tac.
