Best/Wirse/What did I Learn today? & Santa Warren Exchange

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

You are so right "M" I could barely walk 10 feet to the bathroom using my cane and hubby helping. I was gasping most of the time. I truly felt it was just the end of my time.

It's was amazing how much better I felt after just two units. I'll be seeing my gastro Dr. in a few days and we will set up a plan of dealing with this.

I tried to tell my Dr. I just didn't feel well but she and my cardio were insisting I was depressed.

Madison, AL

Male doctors used to tell women that they were "hysterical" when the doctors really did not know what was wrong - it must be in the woman's "mind". Now the buzz word is "depression" - that avoids the doctor having to admit he/she does not know what is the matter and is not particularly interested in finding out - just label the lady "depressed" and send her on the way. The saddest thing now is that is that female doctors are also doing this - they really should know better!

So glad you are on the right track now. Excuse my intrusion on your thread. Hope you feel much better in the days to come and that they find how to deal with this.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

All are welcome here. Thank you I cannot believe how much better I feel.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Stillwood .. our eclectic group on this thread welcomes 'popper inners', and , many become 'stayers :-)

As a nurse I am well aware of the medicate and let'em go phenomenon used by the docs ..
We'd admit male patients on perhaps 2 or 3 meds .. female patients has HS sedation, as needed tranqus, usually a combo of antidepressants ..
Coming of those meds was a HUGE problem .. and.. as I was working surgical, we had no time to wait for them to properly get them out of their systems ..
Just sad ..

omg Karen........ this is awful of your female Dr to diagnose you as depressed when you had the "streaks" back in Feb?
I had something similar (this was years ago), but not a leak - I was severely anemic, and my (male)Dr said I was suffering from SAD (Seasonal Light Disorder) which is prevalent during winter months, and it was August.... He had me see the neurologist, who took away my driver's licence for a year. I was getting weaker and whiter, and my neighbours & family weren't leaving me along. Clincher was when I fell on the floor and couldn't get up. Dr sent me for blood tests and the lab phoned me, saying that I could die with the white count I have. I went to the Dr's (3 blocks from home) and he set me up with iron, and within 2 months I was back to "normal". I had to fight to get my driver's licence back, but did (eventually). I even took this to the College Of Physicians & Surgeons and had a panel of 5 doctors try the case. Basically, it was my word against my Dr & neurologist, and guess who won? Dr's, of course......

Night night

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Karen, I had the same problem but just the opposite. I was depressed and because I am such a Ba** Buster, they determined that no way could it be depression and my Dr. was a female. I lost 65 pounds and finally caved and went to bed for over a week except to go potty. My DH called my daughter and told her someone had given me a lobotomy. She called my doctor.

I am so thrilled your DH was so insistent and you got the help you needed.

Stillwood is a wonderful lady and will fit right in this group.

Marilyn, glad your home is back to normal, as normal is.

I had to buy, on line, two new twin mattresses. Thy no loner sale them with box springs ad they are out of sigh as far as cost. Especially a bedroom that only has visitors about 3 times a year. But my sister slept up there during the last wedding because Son and his wife slept in queen size bed downstairs. My idea. Besides Todd is 6'2" and would not fit on a twin bed. She said it was harder than sleeping on a garage floor. My brother laughed and said do not get rid of them and no one will over stay their visit.

So I ordered the new mattresses and when they get delivered, I will try out the bed. If I need new box springs, then I will order them.

My sister called tonight, she calls every Sunday, and she is thrille we have new mattresses. Usually only small children sleep upstairs.

Betty, so sweet of you to help our economy.

I made stuffed peppers today, folded clothes from the wash yesterday and watched 2 of my PBS shows while folding clothes. I have a wonderful LG washer and drier. Both have a steam feature. So if anything gets to wrinkled, I just put it back in the drier on steam.

The wind, which we have had an advisory all day, just showed up. Cats are spooked and both dogs are right by me. One on my left side and one on the couch pillow right behind me.

Phoenix got a lot of rain and further East from us got rain but all we got was wind.

Saying prayers for the World. France bombed Syria today and I think they should bomb for the next 30 days.

Watched Vern while he showered and caught up on my ironing. I have a built in ironing board and iron in our walk in closet.

You all have a wonderful Monday. Barb, glad you are back, Karen, so glad you are feeling better, and so on and so forth. Heheheheh....Hugs, Sharon

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Getting my day started early this morning. My son is coming to dinner - all the way from Colorado!!!! Actually, he has a business meeting in Massachusetts and is coming early so he can visit tonight. My other three children are coming for dinner too so it will be a packed house in this tiny apartment. But it will be fun. Nice pot roast dinner for a chilly fall evening.

I still am shocked over Paris. I don't understand a mentality that has no regard for human life and I guess I never will. Continuing my prayers......

Thinking of Dianne and Debbie and Shirley and Mary and hoping things are okay with them. I miss them posting. We do hear from Dianne, especially now with our Santa Warren exchange, but I miss hearing about the "thundering herd"!!!

Sending healing prayers for all in need this morning and hoping that those of you who need to rest - do so!!

Off to make a cake or some brownies or something for tonight......

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Morning :-)
We have WNID, from the east, which usually means we will have inclement weather soon ..
Didn't bring my sheets in off the line yesterday, so, they're blowing to beat the band !

Sharon .. the price of mattresses is astronomical ! Our King sized one needs replacing .. but, the dang things are well over $1000.
My BFF told me to FLIP OVER THE MATTRESS .. well .. I had been turning it for a few years, but, since it is a 'pillow top' I didn't think you COULD flip it over .. Took DH and myself good bit of grunting and groaning, but ,we got it flipped, and, VOILA, a firm mattress .. now I know it's just a stop gap, but, mattresses usually go on sale in the spring .. no idea why they are that dear.

Piper is not liking the wind .. AND .. I put out our lit lawn ornaments yesterday .. so far just one deer and a 'Charlie Brown' tree .. he gets up on his bench and looks out and growls at the lights LoL

Betty .. I am finding the EXPANSE of the 'big box' stores to be quite intimidating ..
AND, the marketing is such that .. bread products (bakery) is in one corner of the store .. and milk, fruit away in another .. by the time I have done the whole store twice, I have had it !

Today Lorna and I have a list .. I take my car in for routine servicing for 1045, but, she has 2 stops to make either before of after (hopefully before) ... then groceries .. not many as we have lotsa leftovers !!

Say, Betty .. when you go to the States to mail things, do they ever ask you on the US side if you are mailing anything in the US? I've been asked, and never have had, but, MAY be doing it .. is it a big NO NO ? Would hate to get to the border and have to turn back .. course I guess I could just fib ?

Gord's hand surgery is Thursday.. he's nervous .. I feel bad .. I sure hope it isn't too painful for him ..

Yes Syria is getting THUMPED fer sure by France .. and .. if ISIS tics off Russia enough .. look out !!!!

Hugs all around

Have a stellar day ..

Morning, stop ill in Jammies, going to make this a relaxing day, who knows, might not even get dressed up. Unpacking my treasure is fun, while shopping you just bag it and half the time forget what you bought so some ohh' sand ahh' going on bought so much Christmas fabric, why I have no clue..am sure family and friends are saying no more Christmas treasures but until they do guess I can do one or 2 more😛

Bought Caleb a beautiful Norwegian sweater that he wanted, about the only gift I bought, all the rest is for me or for play.

It's still foggy here, last night when I got home it was 54 degrees, are calling for rain next 2-3 days, Lordy sump pump is just a pumping!

Karen are you feeling a tad stronger today?

"m" once Gord get his hand surgery then that will leave but one more than no more fretting.
No, they never ask questions at post office, this time only a few cars waiting to cross, I had two boxes and all the envelopes, asked me what was in them but that is all. Overall, how did Lorna's parents fare this trip?

Barb, how wonderful that you will be surrounded by family today, you don't get to see your son as much as you would like. Just don't overdo, lots of work for you.

As for the world's situation it's beyond comprehension, I tend to not listen to news, just too overwhelming.

I too miss our DG friends Barb when they drop off, don't think they realize the bond they made with us..big sigh

Well now that I'm almost done packing My tummy wants breakfast hen I will go finish the snowman tree downstairs, then give this pkace a good dusting and cummins..lots of sparkles around and the garland for upstairs fireplace dropped sparkles galore.

Was thinking I might if I've a bit of time today make up some Xmas greenery pots for outside, perhaps one or 2 for inside, those I could leave I back deck in the cold till I bring them inside

That is about all for me, hope you are doing something fun today.

Ohh someone should be getting their Santa Warren swap box in a few days

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Glad to hear your home safe and sound. Sounds lie you got lots of goodies?

Madison, AL

"Worms" - thank you for the kind words. I guess I will have to try today and be a "wonderful lady" in spite of a heavy day of grandchildren babysitting, school play, cold temperatures, and fleas on my little dog Charlie! Typical day - in light of the world news I guess I am lucky to have such small issues in my life - perspective is everything.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Glad to have you join us Stillwood.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Lol, am sure you are a 'wonderful lady' everyday
Yes, we have to kind of take a good look at our lives and be thankful..so much not so nice going on in the world..you sure do have a lot on your plate..school concert a Christmas one or for thanksgiving? Poor Charlie..

Lindakay did you mark off yet another day on your calendar, just know you are counting sleeps

Sun beaming in and I'm still in Jammie

Just have to out finishing touches on upstairs and downstairs christmas tree, on the lookout for more ornament ps in silver/red, think I've used them all..upstairs tree rotating so I know what areas need fluffing and ornaments..I so love this time

Wanted the pkace to look nice for the weekend craft day

Barb made me hungry with her talk of roast beef so took a dinner out of the freezer so supper is looked after, now for a nap

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Wish I could count the sleeps. Sleeping is the hardest thing to get, even when I take a Vicodin and a sleeping pill. If I get 4 hours of sleep I am luck, so when I get tired, I will take a nap. But a good nights sleep never happens.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Sharon, you prefer woman doc..saw one once and it was almost as though she said 'suck it up buttercup'. Lucky you with the built in ironing board..I iron a lot but more for fabric I'm working on, not so much for day to day wear..if you can't wash, dry and wear I seldom buy now.. Has the wind done damage to your gardens?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Much like Linda, I doubt she slept more than a few hours, says its the same every night..pain is the pitz right.

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

nice day out today, the sun is shinning and a nice warm breeze.
took puppy for shots, you would swear we were killing her.

Victoria Harbour, ON

No doubt Kathy, likely harder on you than on her.

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

yes, i had tears in my eyes

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

My primary is woman also, never does much of use but so difficult to make a change. I have to see her post-hospital but will be waiting for real visit with gastro. We are so forced to play their silly games. I need to see her at least twice a year for script renewals.

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

My doctor is a woman, and I absolutely love her. There is usually a long wait in the office, but she spends as much time as needed, and I never feel rushed. Plus, she has several rescue greyhounds that she brings to the office, so there's always dogs around to pet and talk to! I've always been able to get in within a day, if I was feeling sick and wanted to see her. My previous doctor was a man, who was a pompous know it all! Got rid of him quickly.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Hi. hope you are all warm and safe.

As for Mary, she is not listed as a subscriber anymore. That means she can no longer access this forum as it is for subscribers only.

Next time I go into BR I will see if I can contact her.

Hope you all have a grand Monday.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

My previous Dr. downstate was also a woman, and I loved her. I always felt I was in the best of hands. I'm not condemning women Drs. The other one I have a problem with, my Cardio, is a man. In fact it was he who first called me depressed and sent this on to my primary. She questions me about it nearly every visit and tries to get me to accept medication for it. She was so stuck on this that she didn't even see me getting weaker and paler until this last time when I was literally white as a ghost. and in a wheel chair.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Home .. BUSY day .. many stops to ensure Lorna filled out the MANY forms for EI correctly ..
Car is A1 .. ready to go for the winter ..
Ate our main meal at 2pm .. am starting to like that :-)

LK .. there is nothing I can suggest for sleep .. sometimes laying on my back was best .. but, that darned groin pain always creeps in .. and, NO jjumping out of bed to go to the bathroom, that has to be well thought out !

Stll .. are you getting kids ready for a concert? Best of luck :-)

Barb .. ENJOY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Betty .. I guess I'll just take my Santa W south and see what happens ..I won't tape it shut though, in case ..

Raining and wind here ..

BBL

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

There's good and bad doctors of both sexes. Hate it when they decide on a diagnosis, and won't consider anything else, no matter how sick you are. I had one like that previously.

Supposed to have rain here tonight and the next several days. Not looking forward to that. It means mud!

Need to start going through Christmas decorations, see what I have, and what needs replacing. I usually try to set up the tree the weekend before Thanksgiving. Need to get my Santa Warren box finished up, too!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Did the same Deb, threw out almost a tote of decorations, now I need to buy a few more for the tree..means you will decorate this weekend, one that is done you will feel ahead of the game.
No news yet as to when you will be on the road again? Hard to keep house clean with furries running in/out then tramping in the mud.

Never did get downstairs to work on anything, couch was too comfy

Some of the girls are coming in the morning, need to prep for their project, thing I'd rather save that for early tomorrow morning

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Cloudy and drizzly rain here the past few days, but my roses love the cooler weather.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

HOLY COW LindaK .. beeeoootiful poseys :-)
You have lovely roses ..

My Santa W box is slow going ..I keep getting called to go other places .. I know what I'm getting, I just have to get to the place I need to be !
This too shall happen ..

Deb .. mud is my biggest dread .. that and the darned 'snowballs' that hang off the dogs fur and drip over the floor !!!

Was going to decorate the house for Christmas when Lorna's folks were here, but, you kow about those 'best laid plans'
Betty, her Dad is looking so so .. he had to spend one complete day in bed .. I think he was stressed over Gordon .. but .. he sure beat us at cards !!!

Jean, hope all is well with your M in L ..

Susan .. where'd ya go ?

TTFN

~M~

Victoria Harbour, ON

Breathtaking for sure Lindakay..1st photo my favourite

"m" did they mention that this would be their last trip? Too bad Lorna can't fly with you when you are here for 4-5 days but image someone has to look after the furries..lol did they cheat at cards??

Kept busy but in slow motion today, ended up not having a nap and not getting everything I planned on doing done but that is ok..
Girls come tomorrow, then Wednesday, other Thursday night and then a group on Saturday so am trying my vp best to save some energy.

Time for bed now

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I'm here, Marilynne - just been very busy getting my head around the upcoming hearing with Residential Tenancy Officer and our tenants.
THEY served us with court docs last night, and their date is Dec 14th. Ours is Nov 27th......
We can get them both treated together.
THEIRs is for $$ compensation to the tune of $3350.00 for "loss of enjoyment - $1k", "loss of income due to 2 day's to file for hearing - $300x2 = $600", "400 for painting deck, laying floor and removal of construction material", "$1200 for rent abatement due to hot tub not functioning properly", "$75 for filing charge"
Today I got a call from Health & Safety, saying they called saying the furnace isn't working well so they're going for an app't at 9am tomorrow.
Last night Marcel sent me an email asking us to maintain the smoke detector because it isn't working (put a battery in it, you idiot), and the toilet isn't flushing properly (use the plunger we left there, and you threw in the back yard......). The health inspector says that Marcel doesn't like him much, and he doesn't really like Marcel anyway either lol
He was glad I told him about the emails, and that we have a hearing on the 27th. He's hoping we get back in as soon as we hop, on the 28th - not going to push us re: mobile, because it's going to be Owner Occupied.
He asked to be kept informed. Darn tootin'!!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Susan, have you tried doing a google search on this guy? I wonder if this is not something he has pulled before.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Tonight I am wrapped in a SOTH (Sisters of the Heart) lap quilt from 2009...... sooooo comforting - Syrumani, Ladydragon5, Jumper2, Barefoot T, PsychW2, Elen, Abisgranma, Cherrific, Kizmo, MojoQuilter, GardenGlory, Quilter5bdsr, Lillyfan all donated a square to it, and I filled it out with my block (to make 14), and others I made. I'm so pleased I brought it home today from our RV.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Agree with Jean Susan .. if you possibly can, try and find out about him(Marcel)
My brother used to 'flip' houses with his son .. buy battered homes, spend money to fix them up, and rent them out .. did it for 5 years, and then, they ran into a B A D tenant .. this fella knew ALL the ins and outs of residential law ..
Sure do remember some of the names of the quilters ..

Ready to get going and into the city .. in about 90 minutes .. hopefully DH and myself will be able to accomplish more than Lorna and I did yesterday !
Zoey doesn't take as long to groom .. we'll have maybe 2 hours ..

Waving to the 'lurkers', always hope you are well ..

Have a lovely day

~M~

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all

I agree Susan, have him checked

When my dad had the years of problems they found out it was habitual
Phew and she pulled up in a caddy, dressed to the hilt, wallet full of $$ to give 1st and last and that is the last of $$ they ever got

No matter what route dad took the found an out

(thunder)Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

Susan, that sounds like wonderful hugs.

came across this pattern quite by accident, blog hopping this morning. thought some of you knitters might like it.
http://www.stitchandunwind.com/ilyd-2015-day-5-simplicity/
contest is over, but cute pattern. I don't knit sew I don't know how complicated / or not , this pattern is. just thought it was cute. squares could also be adapted to a quilt block/ mini quilt.
I might just do the owl for Waylon's girl friend Amanda.

today I get to clean up Waylon's room, take sewing stuff out of there. I have projects all over the place, and a few stacks of assorted fabrics that were given to me. got to go through and figure out what I will do with them. have to make ready for arrival of the family, for the wedding.
It will be here before I know it !!! Waylon and Amanda will arrive between the 15th and 20th of Dec ( yeah here for Christmas !! ) Kyle, Sam and Cj Jan 2nd , my Momma and sister Jan 7th.
yup, got to get busy. make way for family, get sewing done !!!

hugs and happy thoughts for Y'all. have a great day :)

Victoria Harbour, ON

Love those Thunder
Wow is right, having some home for Christmas...did you not travel to visit your mom last Christmas? Glad she will be with you..were you able to take time off?

Verona, ON

WooHooo....... I finally took delivery of my new laptop and laser printer today. Took me quite awhile to get online. I got DG and that is the most important thing right now. Still can't access my email but I can check that on my phone until I get it straightened out.

I missed you all! Skimmed quickly but will go back and reread tonight.Hope everyone is enjoying getting their Santa Warren's gift together. To be honest I haven't even started but that is always the case with me.

Oh Barb your home is going to be filled with love, hugs and great food tonight. How wonderful you can all get together.

The Thundering Herd is having a tick invasion. Darn!! I thought we escaped this plague as there were very few all summer. I'm pulling several off of them every night. They line up on the floor by the recliner about 8 pm so I can do my trick. It reminds me of when I taught and we had a lice invasion in the school. Every morning we had to check each child's head for lice.

Will be back after I reread. I feel like I am home after a long trip. lol
Dianne

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Those Mug Hugs are cutsie :-)
So many neat things to look at ..

ANother flippin well 'pedal to the metal' day ..
Out by 8:30 .. dropped Zoey off for grooming, went for groceries, met 6 people I hadn't seen in ages .. then off to the pharmacy to get Gord's post op meds for Thursday ..
Pick up Zoey, home, make supper .. and .. POOF .. I am DONE .. and, by the looks of things another day like it tomorrow .. Lorna gets a cortisone shot .. waiting time is always awful ..
then Thursday Gord's surgery ..
Hoping he does well ... so many variables with a carpal tunnel release ..

Goin horizontal early

Stay sweet all

~M~

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

WOOT WOOT Dianne :-)
Congrats, and, good luck with the new laptop and printer

EWEEWEWEWEW .. re ticks, AND, lice .. we have an outbreak of lice here in a few schools .. gosh, hard to get rid of .. nasty business ..
