Thunder that was what I was going to suggest. It is so good to see you post. The vets keep all of the animals that have died in a freezer waiting for the guy who comes and picks them up.

Have a dentist apptment tomorrow so Doc can tweak the denture. I am so happy with the path I took. Still not eating anything that requires me biting it off - I have to cut it up but know I will be able to do that once the plate and I become friends. Good thing I like rice and cottage cheese..

The boys and I spent some time in the bathtub tonight. There was a tornado warning just north and east of Verona. The sky turned black, the winds were wild and the thunder was shaking the house.. Give me a good old snow storm any day.

Hope to be back tonight but if I don't sweet dreams.
D

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

omg Dianne - hope everything's ok - tornado?!?! yikes....... keep safe, pls - you & your thundering herd

Young fella answered our ad for someone to cut countertops - he didn't do a perfect job, but he stayed for 3 1/2 hours to install the corner countertop, and secure the lower (Harold had put it into place, but not installed - just sitting on the risers). Now, it's also been DAP'd.
Bob's getting some more 3 hour DAP, to secure the upper cabinet, and in 3 hours from when he puts it on, I'll be using the bottom & upper cabinets!!
I'm happy. Harold never did show up today, and turned off his phone, so couldn't call or FB him.
I think he's tired of doing this stuff in a "not perfect" kitchen area, with used cabinets, and no studs in the wall. It's a difficult job, but it needed to be done. Bob's going to bring in the dishwasher for the end, and place the sink cabinet in, so we can put the 3rd piece of countertop on - it's a straight piece.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Dianne, I sure hope no one was injured in that tornado!

Sounds like your place is getting there Susan. Slowly but surely.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all

Nice breeze, high of 77 today, not quite as humid, hoping to get outside and play, well not quite, weeds are calling my name.

Was thinking about the suggestion of putting rabbit in freezer and I'm thinking yuk but isn't all the meat in the freezer dead! Lol

Susan sounds like Harold took on a bit more than what likely he usually does for people, maybe give him a few more days..might like his weekends off..know several people who turn their telephones off and don't check email on weekends, their time to desires. Sorry to hear your mitre on the cupboards turned out not so good....hope today is a better day for you.

Dianne, going to take you awhile before you are chomping on steak but you will..harder when dentures were put immediately..tweeting is a must and more than once. Didn't listen to news, must go see that your area wasn't hit.

Thunder is indeed nice seeing you post. What is new in your world..still working hard

Sharon, how did your visit with Vern go? You slept well because you are exhausted and needed this time to catch up on much needed sleep

Lindakay, are temps more manageable for you?

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Betty - I'm sure you're right, Harold took on more than he could handle, but he should not have promised so strongly that he was available all day yesterday then not answered his FB messages and shut off his phone. I contacted the admin of the website where Harold first answered our plea and asked if it would be rude to go back to the first person who said she'd ask her brother, and re-initiate contact. These websites take things very seriously, and I don't want to go against their rulings, etc, or I might get kicked off the site. And they SHOULD take these things seriously. It could be very damaging to people's feelings and therefore the site, if help was abused.
I'll have to wait and see what they say.

Tornadoes in Canada seem to be becoming ?common place? .. was a time they were rarely spoken of, and, inevitably given an innocuous name like 'down burst'.
Had a 'down burst' here in my little village area in 1997, pulled a huge evergreen out by the roots, just an eerie feeling prior to it, and, the atmosphere was actually 'charged with energy' .. skies were a green colour .. damage galore, but NOBODY would call it a TORNADO .. it was like if they said the word. Pandora would open her box and let a bunch more out !!!!
Anyway .. we have had wind and more wind the last 48 hours, with a brief spattering of rain at about 2am this morning .. I heard it/saw it, as I had 'one of those nights', sleep evaded me and aches and pains ruled the night ..

Susan .. no words that I can attempt to type would even come close to hwo I know you must be feeling .. I haveta tell ya .. you're a better woman than me, I would have lost it during the first move ..

Had a computer glitch yesterday .. I have to sign in to use the puter, everytime .. so .. I put in the password .. 3 times it failed ? SO .. a message pops up saying I should go to a certain website and reset my password .. it was all kosher .. BUT .. how the heck do you access a website to change/reset your password, when you can't open your computer to the web ??
Luckily I have an iPad .. ... used it and got it all fixed up ..

Had a wedding party come for pics yesterday .. OMG .. the colours were beautiful .. I try to just watch from the house, but, dang me, I get so excited LoL
The flower girls were so sweet ..

Sharon .. beautiful gardens .. lovely Hibiscus .. DH tries to get one every year for our summer on the patio .. they come in in winter, some winter over, but, not many .. this year they were few and far between .. he didn't get one ..

Dianne .. good to hear your dental stuff is pretty much behind you ..
Are you doing salt water rinses? YUK !!!

Betty .. T minus 4 sleeps and counting :-)
Where is your first stop ?

LK, hows the leg .. oh .. Sharon too .. add me too :-( Lorna's right knee is making her life miserable .. has an appt Sept 2 for a cortisone shot ..

Went tree shopping with Lorna yesterday .. she has a $1000.00 budget to buy new trees, and replacement trees .. gotta tell ya, spending someone elses moola is too fun LoL
The Greenhouse we went to was extremely happy, and, gave her 25% off as she's a gardener/landscaper.

DH is off picking strawberries, I best get at making some pie dough .. forgot the corn flakes trick with the one last week .. it was runny ..

Hi to .. Barb, Deb, Debbie, Katie, Sue, Judy, Marion, Mary, and all the gang ..
Stay safe, and, ENJOY your day ..

HUGS

I have a Hibiscus tree my daughter gave me for Mother's Day 5 years ago. I put it out on the deck as soon as it's safe frost wise. In the fall I give it a severe trimming to keep it a manageable size and bring it in. It will bloom in the house a time or two even tho I don't have a good window for it. It survives.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I found some hibiscus seeds of a variety that I love !I may plant it in the house, when it's settled down.

Yes Betty - how many sleeps? I'll bet you're so excited!!!

Marilynne - you know that adage about "if we all put our troubles in a basket and picked someone else's, we'd quickly put it back and take back our own"? It's so true, because we become used to our own and while we may not like it, we know how we handle it. Guess they creep up on us gradually and we learn to cope. I see some of the issues here - health and otherwise - and wonder how people cope. Guess we just DO! To each their own..........

mulege, Mexico

Still hot and humid here.

The rain dislodged ants and my bed was teeming with them last night when I went to go to bed. Got a dozen or so bites. What a mess. I sprayed and think they're gone. Slept OK with weird dreams about dinner with Tom Hanks and family.

Feel OK today and must do some kitchen work.

Back later.

Hang on, Susan. Sometimes we just have to put on the blinders and put one foot in front of the other. Other times we just have to stand there and accept the pain. And crying will rid you of some of the toxins.

hugs, katie

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

yes, got rid of some toxins on Saturday night, when Grace and Robert came by with their little dog Remy (what a sweetie he is!). It felt good to talk to another woman about what we need in a kitchen, and that as much as Harold said he'd help, he wasn't taking care of function (he was being a perfectionist, and taking time that we don't have - 2 weeks....).
Bob got most of the washer/dryer stuff done, and Harold did point out that there are no studs in the kitchen walls, but Bob still needs some help with it. The fellow who cut the countertops didn't do a fabulous job, but he did a good job, and also installed the corner countertops & the lower cabinets below and put DAP on them so they are usable NOW - I'm so pleased. Mind you, that's only the corner two, and there's still the sink cabinet, the sink, and dishwasher, plus the lower cabinets on the other wall (no uppers, because that's where the window is, above).
Bob's going to have the washer/dryer combo done tonight, I'm sure. I looked up the wiring for it last night, on Google for the particular plug that we have, and Bob's really pleased - Yaaaaaaay for Google!! so thorough........

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone. Not too many on DG yet today.

"M" I am sorry to hear you and Lorna are in pain.
My pain Is still doing pretty good.

Katie, sorry to hear about your ant bites. I hate those little buggers.

Victoria Harbour, ON

4 sleeps but who is counting
Went out and took sub floor out of the car to store and out my bag in it,nice that we don't have to use air bags this year, we'll have mega room, I might even have room for shopping!

"m" how many trees does one get for $1,000 and 25% off..might be a good time to buy right now, greenhouses not wanting to keep them over the winter..my guess is 8

Yikes, think all of us are aching due to high humidity and rain.

Ouch on the ants Katie, bad year for them here, sand ants, not here in the outside but wow outside

Susan, think I'd not contact the site and wait, think the helping hands I s more for smaller projects and yes perhaps he took on to much and it wasn't right, but know from your posts you were in such despair likely he said he could do it just to make you feel better..did he says he wouldn't be back

Karen, you always keep it in the pot?

no, he didn't say he wouldn't be back. I'm trying not to react, but it's difficult.
Between the moving company, and my kitchen..... I'm super stressed. Maybe I should just go back to bed...... but then I wouldn't get stuff Bob needs me to do, done. I need to support my dear hubby more right now than ever before....... he's stressed too

Take some deep breathes, you've been moving into one house to another house and want the disruption in your life to be over but it will take time, things people helping are just that, helpers and can't take it to heart as you have, they haven't experienced what has been happening to you this last few months deep breathe, it will come together!

Imagine Bob seeing your despair goes to work besides himself..he must be feeling guilty that he put the offer of moving to you and zap within weeks you were in hell.

My hydrangeas are all white, mini one in the shade has a tad of color

Know they say you can add to the soil and will get color but wonder after several years of being white it would change

My Hibiscus tree is potted. It's fairly large and the pot is on a rolling dolly. At the moment it is much taller than I, but will get trimmed back in the fall.

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Ok, before I forget....Happy belated birthday, Debbie. Sorry I missed your day. Hope it was special and everyone was kind!

Sharon, love your landscape pictures! Beautiful!!

Betty, really cool glass piece! Now maybe that would be easier for us to travel with than windows!

Susan, hang in there, girl. Hopefully one day you'll be able to look back and laugh. Not very funny right now though!

Oh, M, how fun would that be, having wedding pictures taken in your gardens! Did you get any pictures?

I've been helping my friend Joani in her garden. She's having a sale and "Experts and Artists in the Garden" on Saturday. I helped her both this past Saturday and yesterday. I got stung by a ground hornet on Saturday, Yikes! That hurt a bunch! Yesterday a rain storm popped up and my car windows were down. So I ran to put them up but dummy me left the ignition key on and it ran the battery down. Had to call AAA and he had a terrible time getting it started. When I went to drive home, I couldn't go over 20 mph unless I was going downhill AND the power steering went out. Big sigh....it's at the repair place right now and I probably won't get it back for 2-3 days. Good thing I have other transportation for the next few days!

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

This is what I posted on DG Back Porch Fireside chat forum on Saturday.

I just looked up to see the NBC National news and came eye to eye with a gorgeous blue eyed weekend lead reporter. Heeheeheehee...

THIS IS WHAT WAS ON YAHOO NEWS LAST NIGHT.

Thomas Roberts anchored NBC's "Nightly News" on Saturday, a huge milestone for both the 42-year-old journalist's career and gay rights history.

Until the broadcast, an openly gay person had never anchored the nightly news on network TV. Roberts told The Advocate that it was a "huge honor" to fill the role.

During the week, Roberts hosts "MSNBC Live With Thomas Roberts."

No wonder he was beautiful.. Now I need to go up and read what you guys posted. We are having a light rain and I have a manicure and pedicure at 11 so I must get moving. Dogs need to be fd and waled before I go.

Verona, ON

Just back from my tweaking at the dentist. Unless I have a major problem I don't go back until mid August.

Don't think the tornado made land fall around here but what we had was scary enough for me. I am sure it sounded far worse than it really was.

Katie I keep meaning to say I am a Jim Croce fan too. I like his Box 10 song.

Going to put the ac back on..... the boys willl be pleased.

d

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

no, not funny........ but oh well, this too will pass. (kinda like kidney stones so I hear - painful!! LOL)

yeah, your herd will love the ac, Dianne :-)

Victoria Harbour, ON

Just running into town, hung up from mom, 3 calls this aft

She was in a hurry this am because she slept in and garbage day, grabbed everything, got outside and there was the garbage truck..hurrah

Oops, threw away her upper plate, Drats not good

At 4:30 she's off to see how long it takes to get new ones

Might have to find someone to look after missy in case she can't make it for a few days..
Is this trip doomed or what?

Joyce frames lay flat, am sure frames are ok and nicer lol what fun to be helping out at Joan's .
Got to hate it when you do something like killing the battery, did that after my trip to your house

Karen, great idea about the pot stand with wheels, did see something like that at the greenhouse

Sharon, going to go look who Thomas Roberts is..
We've had Dianne 3 or 4 tornadoes past years..midland/Barrie (loss of life) port Severn a few times..scary indeed especially when you live on your own..glad the furies were there to keep you company

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Now how did she get her teeth in the garbage?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Said she had Kleenex , yesterday's newspaper etc so she was rushing to clear the garbage, emptied bag in washroom and by her bedside..she didn't realize it till noon

Personally I think she misplaced them but she said dn Bryan looked all over as did she..just know she will pay $1.600 (quote) only to find them

I said I'd do without for a few days just in case but she says she KNOWS she did! Can't argue with someone who KNOWS 😉

Put the car on for a/c to cool it a bit, imagine it's ready for me to use

While I'm in town there is a gas station that is more reasonable then most so will fill up the car for Friday departure, picking up my health insurance coverage, will wash and vacuum the car

Before I realized I left my wallet at home on Saturday I had planned to pick up Chinese, no money no Chinese so might pick some up for supper

Off and running

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

That much for her upper?

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Did your Mm check the bedding REALLY well?
MANY patients misplaced their dentures in the covers .. swore up n down they were on their bedside table, but, nope, they were in the bed !!

~M~

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Oh geeze my mom did a similar. We had a picnic at home, next day was pick-up so 5 cans lined up. Mom called me first thing...like 6:00 to tell me her teeth were in a napkin which got thrown away. So out I go hoping none of my neighbors would see me. I did find them in the 5th can of course. I didn't go straight down the line either, I skipped around and they were still in the last $%^& can.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Just got in...nothing left to do before trip..

"m" mom said they tookthe bed apart at least 3 times..wonder if she had a mighty on, put it in her pocked then got dressed and forgot..going to give her a call now

Karen, stinky or what

Victoria Harbour, ON

Mom is having the top done, they thought she meant both, nope just top so 1/2 the price.
They took impression,In again in the morning, because she was upset about coming her to look after Missy he said he would try his hardest to have ready by Thursday afternoon

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Dang. Washer broke. I've had it a very long time so really can't complain. I was hoping it would at least last until we were out of here but doesn't look like that is happening either. Went and got another set..they were twice as much and that was on sale.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Appliances are very expensive now days!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning,

Rained most of the night, sin is trying its best to come out..
Wouldn't you know the morning I'd like to sleep in is the morning that there is garbage pick up..at the curb, picked a few weeds and now enjoying a coffee

Only have about a half hour to finish the last 2 blocks I'm making so will get them out of the way
Had a round clay piece for outside so placed whatever glass I had left in it, know I don't have enough glue but it can wait until I return home

Karen, not what you wanted for sure but with all those kiddies you need a dependable washer..this way you will be able to take washer/dryer with you when you relocate.

What will you all be doing today, weather too hot for outside?

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Karen - twice as much? As the ones you had? If you'd had the other ones for a long time I can see replacing both, after all, once one goes the other's not far behind.

Today I'm to clear room to get to the Utility room so we can get some drywall out. This means moving bags of our clothing (no, no closets yet so everything's either piled up on the bedroom floor, in bags, loose, or in dressers (gave up 2 of them, no room for them). Bob came home from WalMart the other day, telling me about a ready to use put-together wardrobe with rods. We'd been given these WalMart specials - closets with shelves, but no dowels, and haven't used them yet because our clothes are on hangers. Tomorrow's garbage day, so I can see myself throwing out a lot of "stuff". No, not clothes - those can be donated, if there's too much.
Oh my - you poor people...... having to listen to me go on and on and on....... when we're in a better location with nicer people. So sorry about this. I really am grateful for where we are. And grateful that we have "stuff" that can be gotten rid of.
My cousin Cher suggested that I put our beautiful piano outside (as IF!!) because she'd seen it on FB - people wander up to one and and just start playing. Can you imagine how out of tune it would get? And beaten down by the weather. No, I'd sooner give it to Goodwill, but then we'd have to pay for the moving charge. They won't pick it up. I've posted it on Kijiji, and other sites, but no takers as yet.
Stay tuned for the next part in the saga of "Susan moves again...." LOL

Verona, ON

Oh Susan I can so appreciate how you are feeling. When we built this house the kitchen cabinets were not ready. I was washing the dishes in the bathtub and had to use the toilet downstairs. The plumber saw me doing the dishes and freaked. He had the dishwasher hooked up in no time. Dishwasher is in an island so it sat in the middle of the room..... no complaints from me because I hate washing dishes.

raining here how about you Betty and M? i need to clean the gutters out again.

How many sleeps now Betty?

Need to referee the conference the boys are having. lol These pups make me laugh.
D

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

What I had before is a one piece stack set....all I have room for here. So when one dies both need to be replaced. This time got two pieces...still stack but bigger capacity. I prefer front loaders but couldn't find a one piece with front load washer.
Gonna be a challenge to get them in. Space is very limited and since the other set went in we added a small freezer. Think it will need to come out to get new machines in. They will deliver, set up and remove old machine but I know for a fact it's a huge mess behind them. Really need to clean it before the new ones go in.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Dishwasher is sitting out on the patio - not even sure if it's working. Bob brought it home over 2 years ago, and covered it with a tarp. There it sat, on the deck. We'll see if it's working. If not, Grace & Robert have said they would get us a nicer one. Dishwashers aren't that expensive, 2nd hand, I suspect.
I can't do the dishes in the bathtub - 1. I couldn't get down on the floor, with my knees 2. No bathtub - guess I could do them in the shower? NOT!! lol

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I"m used to a side by side washer & dryer, now have a small stacking set - Maytag, and same model as the dryer we just sold to Grace & Robert.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, this is for you. I saw it on Facebook, and had to share.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AG9ph9xkOrw

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

WOW!!!!!!!
LK .. that was sumpthin to see, and, of course, HEAR .. I watched it twice ..

How ya doing with the sorting Susan .. have you moved everything and able to access the utility room?

I make no bones about it .. I totally dislike my front loading washer .. have to reach down too far to put things into it, and, get'em out .. I have a reacher on hand always ..
And, you're right Karen .. COSTLY !! I'd love my Maytag stackables back .. but, when one goes, best to get shed of both .. had the set for 20 years .. first stackables made by Maytag ..
One thing, stuff comes out of the washer almost DRY ...

Guess you're winding up for take off Betty :-)

DH and I went to town .. got my hair cut .. it'll do .. my hairdresser was away .. went shopping .. PHEW .. these big box stores are a workout to shop at !
new recipe for supper ..'chicken and dressing in the crockpot' .. fingers crossed !!
Making lots of salad just in case LoL

Have some laundry to hang out .. best do it ..

TTYL

~M~

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Marilynne - wish there was somewhere to sort stuff TO... with no closets, and unable to use about 1/7th of my cupboards (pots & pans carousel only), it's a bit frustrating, but I did get the Utility room door clear. Now things are going into the bedroom AGAIN lol

It seems a lot of people like the top loading machines better - Grace & Robert sure do. They bought
our Maytag set, and although I haven't used the Maytag stackers, they're the same brand as our Maytag dryer - Neptune. The washer was a Maytag Bravo.
I've heard others prefer top loading too. Our Maytag washer was an water econo washer, even though it was a top loader - had a very low to the bottom agitator - it "sensed" clothes.
lol the first time Grace used the dryer, she stuffed it so full that it wouldn't dry. Bob kept popping upstairs to see if it was his "turn" to use the washer, and she couldn't put the next load into the dryer because it was not dry yet.......... He showed her how to fill the dryer. It IS his job after all, to do laundry at work, so he knows. Plus, he knows the dryer - used it since we bought it in January (gosh, it doesn't seem that long....... when we move back, it's a good thing there's a washer & dryer there, or we'd be doing "without"..........
