Just received this e-mail from Suzanne
"I can't go this year. There were a couple of complications during surgery and have to follow up with other tests. Still a possible blockage that they couldn't confirm that they got into it far enough, possible Angina. Too many risks at this time. Talk later not up to it right now"
Called my sis Sharon to see if she could arrange her life to go?? Not looking promising

Betty, pick up Debbie for your trip. Sorry to hear she is not well enough for the trip.
Susan, sounds like things are coming together for you. And congrats on all the freebies you got.
Too bad for Suzanne but you are off the hook which is good. You did not need the extras worries. Better it costs you a little more money that you are constantly worried.
I got my letter to the IRS investigators done and took it to the local hotel where we can leave mail for the States. Left it with a lot of prayers, came home and took a long nap. Long naps are becoming a habit, partly due to the heat and partly the stress. Neighbor Barbara read the letter last night and thinks it's good. She and neighbor Gary had both read the first draft the night before and made helpful suggestions.
Prayers requested for retribution. Whatever the outcomes. I think I'm done. But I'm sure praying for payback.
hugs, katie
Prayers coming your way Katie, sure would be nice to see the end of this issue with IRS and to your benefit..doing same, afternoon nap
Just finished cutting the grass, let it rain let it rain, gardens need it
Wish Debbie could come with us..
Know Joyce mentioned it would be nice but know she is coming end of sept with the gals for a visit so likely not a possibility but Joyce, you could meet us in Buffalo, oh what fun you would have..much cheaper for you..$2,000 Canadian is but $1,548.29 USA
Better when not at par but yikes, mega difference, keep that up and my trips state side will be few and far between and you will all have to visit me..just think of the buying power you'd have
Betty - I know that Suzanne is disappointed, but so much less worry for you......
Yes, not being at par means cheaper for 'mericans to come visit us lol
I'm tired.... moved a lot of boxes, cleared everything out of the cabinets in kitchen, so fellas can install them. moved a small dresser out of bedroom, and shifted two others around. One place will be for 2 wardrobes for us......
and of course Boxes, Boxes, Boxes to move around. Still haven't found our cutlery... I have faith that I will - tonight, or tomorrow. I found more kitchen boxes - one with pots & pans, and the other - not sure, but it's kitchen stuff, and maybe they put the cutlery in there? I know Bob found the empty tray at old place...... so they've dumped the cutlery into some box. What a mess that will be.....
Glad cupboards will be close to finished tonight
we'll see - he's hoping to get a "ton" figured out & done........
Bob's on his way to pick Harold up now - Bless both of them..........!!!!
Well Vern is headed to rehab this evening around 6pm. Right at dinner time. Typical timing. Radiology said they needed one more c scan per neurologist but everyone seemed to be ignoring that fact. I have told everyone I could tell.
So nothing to report because I have not talked with the neurologist and neither has the internist.
I will wait for him to call me.
I went to see the pain doctor yesterday afternoon and I am getting a cortisone shot next Wednesday morning.
I went down to get my river's license today. Got a renewal driver's license but not a real ID. Nice clerk and she said real ID is not required until 2020. Needed marriage certificate from first marriage in 1960. I took Vern's walker because the longest wait is outside the building and I needed something to sit on. They kept trying to move me to the handicap line and I told them I was fine, I just borrowed my husband's walker so I would have something to sit on. I was actually congratulated by the crowd for telling the truth and not taking advantage of the walker. I told them I believe in Karma and no way was I standing in a handicap line when I was fine.
Dr. this afternoon said Vern would likely be in rehab one week. Five (5) days ago he said 2 weeks. He has made great improvements in the last two days. Hopefully it is because the fluid has been drained off his brain.
His daughter is coming down the week of August 8th ad my daughter and her family are going to Newport, California for a week the same time. So she and I have rented two timeshare Marriott condos instead of one and I am going with them. I am driving down with them, they are taking two cars and Todd's son Luke is coming also. Renting the second timeshare was cheaper than getting a hotel room. That was my plan at first.
So I am off for the hospital to get Vern's stuff packed up and off the rehab. I will try to check-in when I get home.
I have my friends coming tomorrow night to pick figs. There are a bunch out there that need to be picked. The are from Persia and the whole family loves figs. And he cleans the ones the birds have knocked on the ground.
Good for you, Sharon, for not taking advantage of the handicapped line. I join in the crowd's congrats!
Many times I don't take my cane cuz I don't want the sympathy, but then people hold doors for me anyway - not sure if it's cuz I'm a woman, older, or walk with bad knees, but I sure appreciate it!
Gals just left, I is tired..tummy upset, guess from Suzanne's news
Sharon, kudo's to you for taking the walker and making things easier on yourself. Fantastic news re Vern only possibly needing 1 week of recap, best he take advantage of the extra care.
Hoping your shot will give you relief from the pain
Will Vern be able to go with you in August if he is not in rehab or will his daughter still be visiting?
Bet the family enjoy getting the figs...my most favourite pie when I was a child was fig..don't ever hear of anyone making them anymore
Heading to bed..Susan you also will sleep well after all the work you did today
yes, I'll sleep well....... Harold's still here, working a treat! He will have to come back, of course - doing a full kitchen in one evening is a lot to do....
Morning all,
So glad I took a stroll into the gardens about 3:00am this morning as I remembered they were calling for rain today and I hadn't covered the patio chairs, wasn't raining yet and was tempted to leave it till sunrise, glad I didn't as it started to rain shortly after.
Light rain, calling for thunderstorms by afternoon
Not much happening today or this weekend, just have to do some work on the trip once I hear a yea or nay from Sharon..we are all upset about Suzanne.
Suzanne must be beside herself with wory & upset - just when she thought she was well enough to travel, this is what she hears from the Dr....... My thoughts and prayers are with her & her family
We've been having it rain on & off all day for past 3 days. This morning the wind was howling, and flapping the tarps we have covering our household stuff outside. What gets ruined - well, guess the Lord didn't think it was all that important and will help us downsize LOL
And you have a good reason to be upset. She is a good friend!
Is it one week left to go on your trip?
Yes, we leave next Friday, Sharon just emailed, not able to go
Sooo we will do the trip the 3 of us and divide the extra cost
Of all she is the one who has had a horrific year re family and health, only bit of sunshine in her life was looking forward to the trip, big sigh
Pouring now, packed suitcase, now looking at my list of things I need to shop for later today..
Other than that not much going on
Did find a to do projects, likely take no more than an hour to do but will keep me busy
Oh how I'd love to go, but can't swing it right now. I know we'd have a blast!
Going to be really hot and muggy today and all of the weekend. Could have rain, too. Guess I'll go put all the cushions away. I'm having lunch with friends so I don't want to get all hot and sweaty.
Susan, I'm glad you're getting your kitchen. That will go a long way to feel like you're home.
Hope Vern continues to do well.
I had the right row for you, Betty, but the wrong girl! After I enlarged the picture I could see it was you where you said. Good eye, LK!
Wish you had my Nana quilt, Betty! I have at least one more name to add. Is it ok if I bring it along in September? That would give you something to do! You know what they say about idle hands! 😈
Does Linda think she'll be able to handle it?
yes, a bit further to feeling like this is our home.
Next step is to talk to Grace and tell her that she may get embarrassed if she walks in on Bob & I "being romantic" and that we Will be installing a door at the bottom of the stairs, complete with lock & doorbell. Previously my dear Bob said "why - there's a door at the top of the stairs?!?!"
Well, could be because Grace feels this is still her basement and she's free to come & go and she chooses........... yup, a door is in order - with lock & doorbell!!
Good way to explain it too her Susan!
hahahaha yup, don't want the little lady to get embarrassed, now would we? hehehehe
Bring the quilt along Joyce, last time we added all those names to it so easy to do another!
Know you'd all like to come, lindakay is just starting to heal, lots of walking involved...we will be ok..we will take mega photo's for her, not sure that wouldn't upset her even more
Great way to explain it Susan..can a lock not be added to the one on top of the stairs? Lordy, yet another bump in the road for you to get over
Need a glass block from back shed to do the project was going to do, Sooo raining, think I will just sit/do nothing and when it stops will go get one or 2 of them
yeah, a lock could be put on that door, but she has stuff at the top of the stairs, and there is a door available to put up, so going to use that one! I'd like a door at my level, not one I'd have to climb stairs to open anyway. Easier on the knees. This door was part of the suite (used to be what divided the kitchen), so why not use it? I like the idea LOL she might charge me extra if I had the stairs in our suite she does for most things she's adding (just being silly - she doesn't really, but she really might - she's implied other "space usage" charges to the rent..........)
Me thinks you are into another mess Susan..can only hope the year goes by quickly and you can move back to your own home and be queen of your own castle
mutter mutter mutter - this rain is really gotten me steamed - Harold needs to do some cutting for the kitchen, and can't because of the rain.
Once Grace is told something as a definite, she's good with it and keeps her word.
I told her "no after 10pm, cuz I don't function well - too tired" and she's not been calling or coming by then.
I'll tell her this, and I know her kids & Robert will back me up - and it will happen. It's illegal for her to deny us this. She's new to this "landlady" thing and needs to find out some stuff. I know she'll be good with it, once she realizes it's wrong. She just has never had this situation before. I am confident.
Good luck with all this Susan .. I do think, like you .. Grace is a 'babe in the woods' when it comes to being a landlady
Almost seems as though she is treating you like a friend/relative, and, she can drop in anytime ..
Lorna once had a landlady who thought nothing of going into Lorna's appt when she was at work to borrow, milk/sugar etc ..
Caused a few hard feelings when Lorna told her NO MORE .. bt, it stopped ..
Waiting for the A/C to come on .. has gone from kinda cool/foggy and nasty here, to flippin well HOT ..
AND, dontcha know, I left the vacuuming to the last !
I had an hours nap this morning .. I am admitting it, I am ALL IN !! Nasty side effect this !!!
Betty .. sorry to hear about Suzanne .. I think most Canadians have either been part of, or, known of situations where 'things of health' occurred and had to be dealt with in the U S ..
Gordon's Mom died in Arizona .. she had gone to her winter place about 5 months after heart surgery .. quad bypass .. took 7 days to repatriate her body ..it was like grieving twice ..
My Dad got sand in his eye in Boca Raton Fl .. it infected and he had to have a corneal transplant .. covered, but, you don't wanna know how much !!! Ended up coming back to Canada and losing his eye ..
You really would have been stressing as opposed to enjoying had Suzanne come along .. hope that doesn't sound callous ..
Barb .. (baking with Barb) how is your son doing now following his heart surgery, always mean to ask, but, forget ..
LindaK .. how are your roses :-) Any Yellow Rose of Texas :-)
I sent along a pic, in the other thread, of the citronella plant I purchased .. I think it's working .. too bad it's an annual .. perhaps I'll try and coddle it along this winter inside .. it SO reminds me of a CHOLA cactus .. have caught myself backing away from it a few times !!
I'll re post the pics, it's quite novel ..
Sharon .. sounds as though things for Vern are improving YAY .. hope you get results as well ..
Enjoy Cali ..
Have never had Figgy pudding, or, fig pie .. BUCKET list :-)
How ya doin Katie .. has the storm passed through ?
As always, thoughts of Dianne and Debbie, and Deb.. on and on
Best vacuum .. n getting away from it !
TOODLES

Lordy "M" you are cooking and I've just put on the fireplace, cold and damp. Brrr
58 but feels colder dipped to dampness..just checked weather forecast..rain for next 3-4 days
Guess I will catch up on rest
Was thinking of hot bath, go shopping, pick up Chinese
I agree, Marilynne - a real "babe in the woods" about what my rights are, when she's the landlady......
But I do think this will get cleared up, cuz I'm a determined cuss LOL
I know what I need, and it's privacy. It was really bad at our old place, and I'm determined to make this work - Grace knows this, and they're really happy we're here because we're an older, quiet, couple. I will explain it to her, just as I said.
Bob just popped home for lunch (re-heated burgers from Wendy's, last night), and brought in the pieces of "our" desk (his has been sold, so we're sharing the 8' desk - I play nice AND share - good for me, eh?). The desk's tarp was blowing right off, and if he didn't bring it in, the desk would have been ruined. Great timing for him to come home. He also re-secured the rest of the tarps. REALLY great time - I'm too short to really do a good job with re-aligning the tarps....... this wind is fierce!!
He's going to set the desk up tonight, come he** or high water, and right now....... it feels like high water lol This will clear a lot of space, for sure, when we can put stuff in the credenza! 6 doors worth, and the doors will be part of the desk and no longer part of the clutter lol
It's so cold and damp outside, that I wish we had a fireplace...... maybe it would dry out the box I just brought in from outside lol
Sorry you are getting tired as a side effect of your meds.
My roses are doing pretty good. I will take pictures in the morning when it is cooler. 101 right now.
I am sewing nurse tops for my neighbor.
OOOOOOOOOOOOOoooo .. I love SCRUBS .. and, I had a sister in law who loved to make the tops, and, I had some very pretty ones, in fact, I would imagine a few are stil going strong ..
Always nice to be able to divert a nervous patients attention away by talking about the fabric designs :-)
Vacuuming done, A/C is on .. having some Perrier, and just waiting to feed the dogs supper, then Lorna will be home around 4:30pm
DH is off to town with his gun club ..
Susan. do be careful moving that stuff ..
~M~
Oh, it's DONE - just spoke to Grace as she came down the stairs....... told her we'd be needing the door after all - When I told her we didn't want her to get embarrassed coming in when my affectionate husband & I were together, she said "I always call before I come downstairs"
I told her we want to make it a legal suite, with a doorbell & lockable door. She said "no hurry on putting the door up, we'll be going on the 5th of August anyway". I said "yes, it's not our first priority, we need the kitchen, closets in the bedroom, etc.....
btw - she came to see if I needed a heater - it's cool and rainy today, but I said we don't like to make a fuss, I just put on a sweater :-)
It was all very civil, but she knows that we will be putting a door on, that locks, with a doorbell.
I told her how happy we are to be here (and we really ARE), with a Christian family - so nice. I know she appreciated that....... :-)
Just had another noon-nap. About three hours. Still recovering form my writing. I have one letter to go but it's not as stressful.
The hurricane is almost gone and we only got a few drops of rain. Still hot and humid.
Gradually getting a little garden work done but I'm stuck on the house. Know if I just put things away helter-skelter I'll have to do it all over again when I'm feeling better. So I put on my blinders and try to keep the bugs at bay.
Mangoes are in season so I'm enjoying them.
Tired and groggy.
hugs, katie
Had a good time at lunch. We went to Outback. I had soup and salad since I'd put a beef roast in the crockpot. I didn't think I should have beef twice in one day.
We haven't seen any rain today yet, but it's really humid and its clouding up now. So, it could be on the way!
Soon as I fix dinner I need to run over and donate some plasma. TTFN
Katie - you obviously needed the nap!! Please take it easy - a 3 hour nap means your body is telling you to take it easy, too.......
Sorry it's so hot & humid - that can't be making it nice for you either.
The house will remain there, so do it as you can - no rushing. Just breathe....... and tell yourself that your house will stay, cuz it loves you, just as you and it are......
nummy - Mangoes - love 'em! I use them for a smoothie I make - I use frozen mangoes though....
mango pieces, 1/2 avocado, 1 banana, spinach (cram as much as you like in it - it's healthy!), and 2 cups of coconut water. Mix it all up in a food processor or blender. If it's thick, spoon it up, or drink it if it's not thick. Mine always ends up being spooned, cuz I use a whole avocado lol
Asking for prayers for my son in law Lonnie, my daughter Michelle. His mother (Ann) is soon to pass away, and they need, the strength of your prayers. They don't "believe", but we all know that people who are being prayed for don't need to know, or to believe. It's enough for our Lord to know that we're praying. Ann's husband Ed will also need your prayers.
Michelle & Lonnie have made the trek to Vita Manitoba where Ann's in Palliative care, and this morning Michelle emailed me to say that they're going there, and it won't be too long now.
I know Ann for the sweet and good person she is - so very thoughtful & caring. I know that she believes in our Lord, and will soon meet Him and be in no pain, in His presence.
Sorry to hear that Susan, sending prayers for the family.
Thank you, Linda Kay
I'm sending prayers too Susan....
Thank you, Barb
While my DD & DSIL don't believe in our Lord, they do believe in the power of positive thought, and she knows that I (and my friends) am praying for Ann
Evening all,
Just got in, went and had my car serviced, needed to be done before heading out on Friday..
Quick trip to stained glass studio, needed supplies, groceries, visit with Rita and now deciding if I'm hungry enough to cook something, just might have pudding.
Susan, prayers being said for Ann, glad you had a talk with landlady, eventually she will give up her hold on the suite, just new new to her
Love the Outback Joyce, sure wish the one we had in Barrie would have made a success of it..Lordy you are always flitting off somewhere
You've had much on your mind Katie and mega travelling these past months so wear those blinders, what you need now is rest
Barb, what has been keeping you bust
Deb, how's the car running, repairs done to a/c
This lil Canadian is goin bunkies!!
My day may not have been physically demanding, but, lots of thinking going on as I try to set up a schedule for another volunteer and her hospice client ...
I am fried!!
