Victoria Harbour, ON

Mouth watering, what I wouldn't give for a fresh strawberry pie out of the oven then add ice cream..best I can do is a quick run to the bakery and no guarantee they have one, now you've done gone and made me hungry! Only had one feast of berries, $5 a pint and half had to be thrown away.

Thoughts are with Dianne as well, if they are on schedule they will be calling her name about now

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sitting in the waiting room with the rest of you!

Sending prayers for Dianne! ((((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Hoping Dianne is on her way home by now and that all went well.....Still praying...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Wish "M" would bring her strawberry pie, could use something sweet, coffee in this waiting room is yuk

We should hear soon

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I just bought strawberries at Walmart. $1.98 a pound.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Wonder how many pounds in a pint
Costly here

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

They're close, Betty - 2 cups in a pint (= 16 ounces), and a pound is also 16 ounces, but one's weight (pound) and other's volume (pint = 2 cups).

Thank you everyone for your support and prayers. Doc is NEVER late but today he was 45 min behind. I went to a Giant Tiger across the street and browsed around with Meryl my friend who came with me. I ended up buying 2 pairs of flip flops for $5. just the right price as Chaos likes to destroy them.

I am hurting but it is so worth it.. I can smile again. I have to go back in tomorrow so Doc can check the fit and clean up - he used the plate basically as a bandage.

Thanks LK for moving over the thundering herd's pic. Duke is the smallest of the trio at 72 lb, Chaos in approx 80 lb and this morning when Diesel stood on the scale while I brushed my teeth was between 150 - 160 lb. If you prefer privacy there is no such thing in my home.

Strawberries are almost done here at most places but raspberries are plentiful. I love the blue raspberries - its hard to describe but its sort of like the red raspberries on steroids. Delicious!!

M you listen to your hip!

Moving fatigue set in yet Susan?

Going to be a short walk tonight at last call ... and early too.

Again thank you all so much for your support.
Dianne

Victoria Harbour, ON

Relieved to see you post Dianne..hope he gave you meds and you get a good nights sleep
Shaky your finger at the thundering herd and tell them they must sleep in, you need rest

I will have to go on the lookout for black raspberries, where do you buy yours?

Thanks Susan, then berries are a lot cheaper in USA
Berries brought in from state side are sold a lot cheaper than our own

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Moving fatigue - oh yeah, in spades.....
I sent an email to the moving company, explaining my concerns about the move - still can't find our cutlery (they never marked any of the boxes), upset about a mouse trap being packed in with our stuff, they broke a slipper chair of ours, they didn't expect a piano (only emailed several pictures of it to their office ahead of time), the packers & the movers each expected the other to take apart my office desk, and therefore no one did - although they did take the desktop & the under-desk cabinets, but not the back, sides, or credenza, cuz they didn't know how to take it apart). Bob ended up taking the desk apart and transporting it.
We have "stuff" towering over us, and no usable kitchen as yet.
I'm fatigued........ more than that.....

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Vern had his spinal tap today and the dye infused. That was around 1pm. Then at 5pm they did a c scan to make sure the dye was going where they wanted it to go. Then tomorrow at noon they will do another c scan and then each day at noon for two more days.

I have my appointment with the pain doctor tomorrow to go over my MRI results. Pain today was intense but I think this Vern thing just finally wore me down. I slept very little last night because of pain.

Susan, you are one blessed individual with your calmness. You just go with he flow.

My microwave decided to blow a circuit breaker the other night. So I purchased another one at Bed Bath & beyond. Reason I went there was it was a smaller store. I may have paid $50 more but no way was I going to a super large store. And the dog's food warming is the major use of the micro wave and my flour tortilla.

Betty, I love the stepping stone the twins made. You are such a sweet lady, just like me heeheehee, to take care of the neighborhood kids.

Betty the hospital is about 5 miles away. I live in a planned community where the commercial surrounds the homes in a circle, then more homes. So you can choose to not have far to travel. Our area is called Summerlin. Google it. Summerlin, in Las Vegas. It will give you an aerial view Won a big prize about 5 years ago for planned communities.

Drive to the hospital does not take as much time as the walk to the front door and then to his room.

Marilyn, those strawberries looked wonderful. I have also never heard of blue raspberries.

We are still in the 100+. My neighborhood is starting to look like a ghost town because everyone leaves town when it get this hot.

First photo is hardy hibiscus. Second photo is plumeria, Third photo is crinum, forth is a fungi living in a very large pot with my blueberry bush. Last photo is my view from kitchen and my patio chair rearranged.

Another morning ..

Dianne .. wonderful to see you made out ok ..
Privacy? Hmm .. not much of that here either .. where ever I go, I have 3 little fur beasties helping me along ..
I never just turn around and walk, always have to look out for 'furries under foot'

Sharon . so far, so good for Vern .. I wish you both all the very best .. your flowers are gorgeous.

Susan .. I guess the only way to look at your situation could be, that it can't get any worse?

Off to have my car serviced, and, no doubt a heated discussion re their NEW method of contacting a customer :-(

Take care

~M~

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone.

Dianne, I pray that your mouth is not too sore today. Take your meds if you need them.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Before I boogy on out .. I wanted to share a pic of a CITRONELLA plant I bought (at the 3am sale)
It is just the weirdest plant .. and, it IS citronella .. it reminds me of a VERY dangerous cactus that grows in Arizona .. when I was there I got near a ''cholla Cactus' .. I thought my friend was going to break her leg grabbing me away from them .. she explained that that cactus could really 'mess you up' !!!

Anyway, here's 2 pics .. I put geranium in with it to brighten it up a bit ..

Peace ... out :-)

Sharon - you are so calm yourself - I don't know how I could handle it if my Bob were sick like your Vern is. I guess we just deal with what we're given.......

Marilyn - your privacy is great - try having your landlady just walk into your suite from the basement steps........ Last night she phoned me to ask if one of their sons could come down to see Bob re: his laptop not working. I was surprised to get a call. Earlier in the day she walked down just before noon as I was coming out of the washroom - hadn't dressed, was only wearing my housecoat. Her hubby, Robert, was knocking at my door (bless his heart........).
When Grace phoned last night, we said "yes, of course" and Ryan came to our door (he has to go outside, and then around the back to get to our door). He said he felt he should be more "formal" seeing as how he was going to another household. I have a feeling that Grace's family is telling her she shouldn't just enter our home by the stairs....... calling out "hello Miss Susan" as she does. I'd wanted to put in a door, but Bob said "no - there's a door at the top of the stairs", so I agreed - a door is a door, right? But she still sees this as her basement......... The last 2 days I woke up crying - I feel that we've gone through enough, and I know that Grace has a good heart, but a loss of privacy is almost the last straw.....
It is going to be a lovely suite - not big, but lovely all the same. Bob installed a 2nd medicine cabinet last night - their "inset into the wall" cabinet was not going to be big enuff, given that these old folks have more meds than younguns do lol
Today I'm going to load up my car with a lot of my fabric stash, to store it. Not the current "works in progress", but just don't have room for stash - and I'm talking LOTS - I'm sure you quilters know what I mean. May have to organize my cabinets better, or store them, too.......Keeping my sewing table & machine HERE though lol

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Make sure you put the fabric in water proof tubs or bags.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

They are - some of it has been stored before.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Hope you all have a sweet day..

Blue Raspberries come from the whitebark raspberry plant and are not really bright blue like the popsicle The pic in this article is NOT the real color.(see note at bottom of link) Blue Raspberries are a purple/black color. The blue you get in popsicles is from blue dye.

http://mentalfloss.com/article/29273/what-heck-blue-raspberry

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

What is being called a blue raspberry is what I've always called a black raspberry. I have always preferred them over the red ones. I always wondered why they made raspberry flavored fruits blue....now I know.

Are you awake Betty? Two post the same about 30 minutes apart.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Not sure why that happened, came back and looked like I hadn't pressed send so did so..oops. Lol

Need all your expert advise, you know that I value all your opinions

Spoke a few minutes with Suzanne last night, she goes to her specialist tomorrow and will find out if she can do the trip, not so sure she will tell him all, like how tired she is.
She will be so disappointed if she can't

Once I hear tomorrow it's a go I want to approach her with concerns, not to make her feel like she should go but

1. Can get insurance for all coverage except for HEART, no coverage
2. We put in long days but rented a wheel chair to take with us, still long hours and much to do

When we spoke she said you can send me home via plane or if we are close to border just cross o ver

Ok now if one is having problems you don't do either, it's straight to the hospital even with NO coverage

She had 2 stints and there was a hike in an artery and they put a balloon and said it would self heal ( but how long to heal)?

Don't want to be the bad guy here but don't want her to go then I'm the one making the decision to go to hospital with no coverage

What to do

This message was edited Jul 15, 2015 11:17 AM

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

If it was me. I would say lets go. If something happens at least I was having fun. But I would also hate to think I would be a burden to everyone else.
Hard decision for sure.

Victoria Harbour, ON

I'm just worried if something did happen and I had to bring her to the hospital likely she would lose everything here because no insurance and no $$ to pay for services

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

That is a real concern. Hopefully she realizes that. I don't know how you explain your concern to her, without her feeling like you don't want her to go. Hospitals can/will accept payments, and will usually work to reduce the bill if it's a hardship. Still a worry, though.

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Gosh, that IS a tough one, Betty!

I know how disappointed she'll be. However, you may be worrying for nothing. The doc may say "Oh no you aren't"!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Deb, even for the smallest of care it's in the high thousands for we Canadians
For heart very well in hundreds of thousands
She was here this aft. Looks good and yes, will wait for her doc to respond

mulege, Mexico

Betty, I would say no. With great difficulty. It's not just a risk for her but for you and the others. As much as she might want to go it puts a stress on the rest of you - even if nothing happens. Take her on a shorter, safer trip where you can concentrate on just having a good time. Think it through. If the most anything - not necessarily the worst - happens, the trip will be ruined for all of you and she'll be broke!! Being nice is one thing but this is over the limit. You have to make the decision if her doctor doesn't. We all have your back.

I've been working on my complaint letter to the IRS about my retirement association. Very exhausting.

We're getting a breeze and sprinkle from Hurricane Dolores. Most welcome.

hugs, katie

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thanks Katie, it's what I'm feeling but hard to say no..think once she speaks with surgeon tomorrow then speaks to her hubby we'll see

Katie, bet the rain feels so nice you'd like to sit outside and enjoy the sprinkles

Wonder how Dianne is doing today, likely having mega pain

I played lazy today..worked on another block for the quilt I'm doing and not much more
Should really have gone out and mowed the lawn

Tomorrow is another day

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Whew busy day today. Cousin with two of his grands arrived, will be here until Sat. A.M. Fun day his grands are older but still had a good time at the lake. Out fishing now.

Just filled another box to send to grandson in Kuwait. Scored a nice chunk of Buffalo for hubby to make into jerky for him. Tucked in a few other goodies and all the kids wrote him notes.

Victoria Harbour, ON

He will love that for sure
We have a buffalo/elk/deer farm up the road, sell meat, now if you were closer you could do mega jerky

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

A local grocery here has it's own buffalo herd, but until recently the meat was out of sight expensive. I guess they saw the light when it wasn't selling. I was delighted when I peeked and the price while still high, was within reason. Venison we can get most any time too. His parents live on a 53 acre farm and always have venison in the freezer, When any come up they bring us some. Now elk we don't have a source for but I would expect it to not be too different from venison. Myself I like buffalo but not too crazy about venison.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Betty - re: Suzanne - I know what you mean about expensive hospital care for Canadians in the US. My ex had to have heart "stuff" done when he got clogged arteries while driving his 18 wheeler through Minneapolis area - The surgeon refused to do any work on him until he confirmed his insurance coverage. The insurance co faxed info, but to wrong fax # - it was crazy.
When my ex got home, he found a message from the surgeon, asking for confirmation of coverage......
It cost the ins. co a lot (or so I heard - he was my ex by then......)
I would be concerned about taking Suzanne with me for a trip to US unless I got confirmation that her Dr said it was ok. Is her hubby going with her to the Dr's?

Victoria Harbour, ON

You hear of such horrors re fees and care Susan, it's not a wonder I'm paranoid.. getting where if you have a toothache they will not insure you..ex doing ok now? Nope, she is going alone seeing as she drives now..been to Toronto a few times and says it doesn't tire her out.

Karen, I'm not fond of these meats, same with rabbit ..all in the mind, sure they are yummy.
It's not a wonder you will miss the family, look at how full your household is right now..oh what fun you are having

Wide awake, you know one of those nights when you can't sleep

Victoria Harbour, ON

Good morning

Going to be an ace of a dai
Sunshine and nice breeze, let's hope breeze continues

Must fing another project, seems I'm at odds with myself when I've nothing to do

What are you all up to?

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

Got my car back yesterday! I have to get the A/C recharged again. Just had it done last month, but I guess they had to disconnect things, and all the coolant stuff came out. But, it's running smooth, the engine is quiet. He said it only had 79,300 on it, so hoping for a few more years out of it! The original engine in this car I got just over 200K miles on, it would be nice if I could get that with this one!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Wonderful news Deb, engines now days seem to last longer, here is hoping it does..
Not so good news about the a/c

Victoria Harbour, ON

Sharon called, emailed me a photo she found of a 1st communion photo 1955 on a town site and asked if I was in it yep..I'll have to have it printed and framed so I can work on jogging my memory of who is who...so far I can only name about 6
